I have no words to describe how happy I am right now.
ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING – New movie from the Monty Python Troupe!
-
-
Been a while since Monty has done anything looking forward to this.
-
This should be awesome.
-
I only really cared for Holy Grail but I'll see how this goes.
-
I heard the news earlier and couldn't believe my ears. The legendary Monty Python making another movie? A day made right there. Or so I thought until I read that news item.
@'The:
It's not a Monty Python picture, but it certainly has that sensibility.
Now I'm having mixed feelings about this whole project. Hearing the voices of the troupe again is the best news of the year by far, but if it's not a full-length Monty Python movie then it just isn't. Of course they're going to keep that uniquely distinctive style of theirs for which they're noted, but even so it won't feel the same. This may, at worst, prove to be yet another comeback by a legendary old group that should never have attempted it in the first place. Hopefully not, because I really miss the Pythons.
Keeping tabs on this one. Here's to hoping it will be as brilliant as any of their past movies.

Watching through this at the moment
…and I can honestly say... No Graham Chapman, no fucking deal. He always stole the show. It wouldn't be right without him.
-
While that's cool news, with one of them dead and the rest of them in their 70's… I dunno how up to form they can possibly be.
I mean, its been nearly 30 years since they made anything as a group... and 40 years since Holy Grail!
-
Incidentally, I watched Almost the Truth for the first time not too long ago. But as Robby said, with Graham Chapman dead and the rest pushing 80, I wonder if they can really pull this off.
-
They said it themselves that it's not going to be a "Pythonesque" movie (apparently Jones hates that term), but it doesn't mean it can't be funny. These guys are veterans, they know what they're doing.
-
From what I've read there seems to be a rift between Idle and the rest of them. What happened?
Watched Holy Grail a few months ago after having avoided it my whole life. Latin scene was particularly funny.
-
Latin scene? Did you watch Holy Grail or Life of Brian?
Where there knights running around with coconuts or a bunch of Romans and Jews?
-
Oh you're right Satsuki I'm getting myself mixed up, yeah it was Life of Brian.
-
Right. Yeah, I love the Latin scene too. I have a friend who majored in Classical Lit and that scene floors her every time.
This scene is also a particular favorite:
-
I don't care if it's a full-on Python film or not, it's the boys back together. (Minus Graham, but… seriously... what are they supposed to do?)
I feel as long as they make me laugh and I enjoy the film, I don't care if it counts as "Python" or not.
I also hope they get Idle back, considering hos much he likes cashing in on Python, even calling his shows "Eric Idle Exploits Monty Python", I think he'll come back.
-
Love this scene, especially this line:
Brian: I am not the Messiah!!!!
Follower played by John Cleese: I say you are my Lord and I should know, I have followed a few. -

"It's not a Monty Python picture, but it certainly has that sensibility."
…that says pretty Pythonesque to me.My problem is that Graham Chapman was an integral part to the writing and development process. It'd be like a band reforming without a bass or rhythm player. They can make the music but there will always be something missing and it'll always be fairly noticeable.
and if were going for truly great Python clips, bugger Brian and Grail.
Flying Circus had all the great sketches. 43 years on and it's still unbeaten.

New trailer has been released!
Overall, it looks solid. It's got a stellar cast, and most of the jokes made me smile.
I can definitely say that it's not what I was expecting when the news broke 3 years ago, however.
-
The premise is kind of boring, not quite on board yet but it got me to grin a few times. Thing is comedy trailers always seem pretty hard ideally you don't want to give your best jokes away.
-
Didn't know about this at all but it had me laughing so i may see it
-
So, more or less a British adaptation of Bruce Almighty.
Eh, I'm open to it.
-
It's a little sad hearing the voice of Robin Williams again, knowing that…
-
@Rogues':

No kidding. I'm often pretty bad about picking up on voices, so I didn't realize until the end when they flashed some credits. Feels almost eerie, in a way.
-
I didn't realize this was that movie. I saw a clip shortly after Robin died, had no idea it was the Python move.
That said, Bruce Allmighty was a good premise that didn't do much with it, so I'm okay with this. Especially since it seems to be going for actual comedy and big ideas… rather than smaltz and minor pettiness in a small local area.
-
Definitely feels like Bruce Almighty except instead of God it's aliens. Yep, definitely Monty Python.
