Is this series good? Just wondering what other mangas I should pick up.
Yes, you surely won't regret it, and you can easily catch up on it.

Damn, right after One Piece. It must be good.
Also what the hell is Noblesse?? Its not on MAL from what I can tell and I checked it out on mangareader and it looks kinda stupid. Keep in mind I didn't really give it a chance, it just looks weird.
How is it weird?
Noblesse is damn good and entertaining. Frankenstein and Raziel are just too badass.

Is it an internet series or something? Because if not it wastes TONS of paper.
The style of it seems weird, for starters I'm not used to manga/manwha what ever, being in color. Not that them being in color is a problem.
I almost thought for a second things were looking up for Thorfinn.. well, they are bound to meet sometime.
77 is out. Break next month, though.
Jeez, Orman's brother knows how to party.
Taking over his father's farm ?
Yes, I know. But how is he going to use Orman for his plan, that's the question.
I imagine something like…
Canute will have Orman join his army after poisoning Ketil. Under the condition that he may give up his farm to pay the the five man slain in his name. By the looks of it Thorginn wouldn't mind. He's not exactly the peaceful peasant typ anyway.
Really like where this is going. Canute is one of the most interesting characters I seen in awhile. Can't believe I dismissed him as a minor one note character when he first appeared.
So did I. His first apperances are really rather unspectacular. It's when I read about the history that this is all base on that I first realized just what this character had to roughly turn into.
Im going to start reading this manga(i wanted for awhile now),i have question since this viking related story, how is the female treatment?also does it have some fantasy to it(things from viking Mythology)?

there are references to mythological stuff like valhalla, etc…
Women are just there... I can't remember anything negative towards their condition, but they don't play an important role in the story so far.

I can, but it that shouldn't discurrage from reading. There's actually quite a bit. There's that one scene when is Thorfinn just sitting there while other mercenaries rape a woman. There's slaves of both gender and the women are often sold for sexual services. Especially the one scene with the girl dieing for a scheme was really awfull. Mind you, none of this is deamon rape a la Berserk but saying there's nothing is not right either. Also I think what is in there is appropriate since men have no better luck in this series. I mean, practising archery using the chopped off heads of the slain as targets?
Also there are no norse gods appearing in Vinland Saga. It's a more of a historical manga rather than dark fantasy.
Finally reach the final chapter, so far im enjoying it.
Thorfinn's sister is pretty badass, though. Other than that, the only females were Thorfinn's mom and slaves.

Nice turn of events.
Awesome chapter! Thorginn is a fucking monster. It's good to see that he's more to him than just being a strong warrior, it was smart of him to figure out that there's something going on.
I laughed at Ketyl's reaction at the beginning of the chapter :lmao
But how are they going to fight against Canute's 104 soldiers? Thorfinn haven't been fighting for the past several years, and his side is completely outnumbered. Although, Thorkell would probably join him to fight against his fellow Jomsvikings and Canute's soldiers, lol.
I think it might take some time before everyone arrives at Ketil farm…in terms of chapters I mean. They still have to deal with that escaped slave plotline that started some time ago on the farm.
Anyway, I tought the chapter was great: for itself, the characters, and what it builds up towards!
The chapter was well done, Thorginn showed he's not only strong, but intelligent too. And he's excited for what will come after this.
And good to see the building Yukimura is doing with the story, it was worth the wait.
Ah I had such a wide grin on my face reading this chapter. Btw. what was Canute babbing about on the last page. His lost love? I take it that he is talking in figures here since we never saw him in love. The only things he lost are his faith and his sanity.
A nice climax between Thorgil, Canute, and Thorfinn at the farm. This should be good when you count wildcards like Orman, that other slave that's with Thorfinn (forgot his name), and the escaped slave.
As for what Canute's talking about, possibly he fell in love during the time skip.
I think the ''love'' he's talking about is the concept that the drunken priest was talking about to Canute.

the love part refers to this

I understood love in that scene as peace in death after a lifetime of waging war. But Canute is still very much alive and he's still waging war. How can he have lost this love when he never had it in the first place?
New chapter is out. Not much, but things are still moving along. I must have completely forgotten about that escaped slave.
! So we finally have a name for this badass slave. Surprised to find out that Arneis has a husband. She was leading Einar on :pek
! And Snake is such a liar. He obviously cares about the old man ![](http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff286/nfforums/NF smilies/1zn3jhs.png)
Oh seems like a fight will start
I wonder how it will turn out
I can't shake the feeling that Einar will die now…

it's not just the death part.

In some of this pages there is a bitten apple simbolizing the myth of adam and eve, the priest say that humans lost love because the defied god. Canute and all the humanity lost love before they were even born and only can recover it through death.
Canute's objective is that people can obtain that forbidden love while they are alive.

a human lost love before he's born, ha has to seek for it and oly can recover it when he dies. you're just taking the word lost too literal.
You are right. So his words are about original sin. When he says "Everything is for my lost love" in last months chapter, he is than not talking about his love for someone/something, but about gods love for him? Then his kingdom is a kingdom where ppl have regained gods love and can therefore love someone else? I had so far thought he rejected the idea of original sin and want to build a kingdom without god. This is pretty confusing to me. Then again I have only read the story once so far…

I'd rather say he's talking about the love god deprived him of, he doesn't care whether god loves him or not, but he can't stand that humans can't love, the love we know is nothing more than prejudices, a human can only obtain the true, real love through his/her death.
It's not that god stopped loving us, but rather than he doesn't give us real love till we die.
his objective is the building of a kingdom where people can obtain real love without have to die, a paradise, ignore god and have his paradise here on the earth.
Ok that's much closer to the idea i had in my head all the time.
fucking brennen, telling me I should fucking read this, and fucking hell, I CAUGHT UP IN HALF A DAY AND I WANT MORE
all brentopolis' fault that the next chapter isn't out instantaneously
Chillax! Here, have a banana until the next chapter is scanlated.
Just picked this up as a result of some pestering from a friend of mine. Really dug reading it (obviously) and I caught up in about half a day as well, but now I'm not sure where the story's going to go. This whole slave arc is such a departure and now it seems like the previous arc is about to intercept it…
It'll be interesting to see what Thorfinn does when he gets forced into kill-or-let-others-die situation. Also, lol @ Arneis being that guy's wife. So funny.
Nice chapter, the battle was great.
Just started this series and caught up immediately. This has been a wonderful read. It's just fantastic to get to enjoy such a great rendition of my cultural heritage!
I'm curious to find out how Garðar and Areney became slaves in the first place.
I'm curious as to why a battle-hardened badass who's corssed blades with – and impressed -- some of the strongest warriors around is unable to defeat this Snake guy, supposedly a hired hand/bodyguard on a farm somewhere. Even with Thorfinn out of practice and malnourished.... That's like having a mall cop trounce an out-of-shape Tae Kwon Do master in hand-to-hand combat. Really makes the sense of strengths odd. Maybe when the royal procession makes its way over, Snake will beat up some named people or his identity as a super duper warrior will be revealed.
When Askeladd died at Canute´s hand Thorfinn lost all reasons to life because up to that point his whole life was getting stronger to get personal revenge on Askeladd. With him dead (through someone else) he had nothing left and basically let himself go. I´m sure he could have worked as merc somewhere but afterall he assaulted Canute upon discovering Askeladd which could have easily led to his execution and as such i think he had to lay low (although becoming a slave is going to far i suppose).
And since it is loosely based on the Discoverer Thorfinn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorfinn_Karlsefni) i bet when Canute tries to seize Ketil´s farm he fights back and then has to flee the country towards Vinland.
hahaha didnt notice i had two chapters to read that is rare with this series.
I have to reread this there are certain things i dont remember.
This is coming to Germany soon. First series in a while that I plan to pick up before its there :P
The only one who can stop Canute from taking the farm is Thorfinn so I guess we just have to wait patiently for the awesomeness to explode.
LOL Einar has no chance with Arneiss now. She's married, already had a kid and is with child with her slave master.
Funny though she thinks the storm will pass by. Canute is probably going to raze that whole farm if Thorfinn doesn't make a move or isn't around.
