This chapter deserves a two thumbs up!
It was awsome.
I think the most memorable line to me in this chapter is "I don't care!!!"
This really shows how Luffy loves all his Nakama.

ODA = GOD
Oh god, if only his name was Eiichiro Odg…..Odg could be a name. <<
Eiichiro God
Eiichiro Dog
XD
This is a really cool chapter
Yea, Robin is finnaly on the Strawhat side.
Aokiji saved robin from being captured by freezing the rudder of Spandine ship which was cool. 16 year old robin in very pretty, indeed. hopefully by next week we can find out who is fighting who.
I…want...a...full...body...shot...of...teenage...Robin...dammit...
Fanartists Unite!
finally the full chapter!! thanks BF and thanks for the trans Stephen. wow… just wow.......
Robis is pretty 'famous' isn't she? :S I really want to smack those guys in Robin's past, especially that grandma with oh so called 'warm' smile but at the end poor Robin, she can't trust anybody.... I noticed her eyes changed when she started to do odd jobs.... no wonder.... btw I agree... teenage Robin is pretty.... but she is still pretty now ^_^
'I wanna live'!! oh yeah.... spill it out.... spill it out...... and 'here we come' oooooo .... yes!! I am crying and smiling at the same time..... gosh... XD
really can't wait for next chapter!!
oh, and I also noticed Croc's left hand... hmm....... :S
Out of context, there are a few really good lines in my script. Such as…
Crocodile: I could use your help.
Crocodile: I hear you can read...
and...
Luffy: I know who Robin's enemy is!
Luffy: Soge King.

Bahahaha.
I like the Sir Croc one.
Although, the "Soge King" does seem like it's in the wrong place.
it's gonna be a free for all.

Hehe, I noticed the Sogeking one when I was reading.
I was wondering also…did you really mean to type "I wadda live" for Robin, like she was crying, or was that a typo? I just sounds goofy.
I like the dialogue at the end Nami to Zoro "do you have to look so evil?"
And whether Sogeking is really trembling with excitement or not is besides the point. He obviously convinced himself that he is.
As explained earlier in the thread by someone else, it is intentional. The poor girl's got a runny nose!
Though as much as I'd like to claim I would never make a typo on a line as important as that, I'm sure I've done it before…
did Robin just say, that her enemy is the "World", I didn't know Dio was in One Piece
A few thoughts on the flashback chapter, and on this chapter.
1. It suddenly makes sense why Robin smiled when she was crying after Croc hooked her. Stupid to point out, I know, but I just realized the significance of it last night.
2. I figured Robin's past would be something like this, but I never imagined it would be this heart-wrenching to read. This is easily one of the best chapters Oda–or any mangaka, for that matter--has done.
3. I believe Aokiji intentionally mislead the Straw Hats into believing that Robin had betrayed all of her previous groups. There's no way he couldn't have known that Robin was the one betrayed. So why? At the moment, I'm thinking it's because he wanted to have the Straw Hats betray their trust in her, so it would be easier to capture her. After all, he seems to play a large part in this arc; he was the one who placed the seeds of mistrust in the Straw Hats and gave Spandam all of the information and resources he needed to formulate a plan and capture her.
I have a few questions to pose to you:
1. Why did Aokiji let Robin go? Was it out of sympathy? Or was it all a part of his "test"? If it was a part of his test, what is the "test"?
2. What is Aokiji's part in the incident at Enies Lobby? What is his motivation?
I really think he is.
After all the drama between Robin and Luffy, and Robin even crying telling them how much she wanted to be with them, It would really look pathetic for Usopp to still be afraid.
The thing is, i'd rather have Usopp be pathetic now than do something like this and then go back to being pathetic next week.
This chapter has proven that One Piece is one of the best or THE best manga's of all time. Oda-baby keep it up!
Luffy- Robin!!! I haven't heard it from your mouth yet!! TELL ME "I WANNA LIVE"!!!
Quotes like this really makes luffy stand out against other main characters. He truely thinks of others more than self and tottaly respects life. Most shoen heros are brainless killing robots.
did Robin just say, that her enemy is the "World", I didn't know Dio was in One Piece
Later that day, a steamroller was seen hurtling towards Robin's head.
ok let's clear up the "i'm shaking with excitement" thing…
the japanese word is "mushaburui". the literal translation is "shaking with excitement". however with usopp, i believe he is shaking out of fear and saying "mushaburui" to not seem scared. it's pretty common for the "usopp" role in a manga to do that.
ooshi78
he looks scared as hell.XD
but I dunno, this sogeking version of him is much braver. I mean, the old him, will react "what?? are you crazy??? " when asked to burn the flag. but sogeking doesn't even think about it, he burned it.
but well, no matter how brave he is, it's still ussopp beneath the mask. there's a limit for how much someone can change XD
i agree with you ooshi, thats how i perceived it when i first read it, there have been many usopp moments where he talks courageous but his knees are shaking at the same time, thats his character.

no. ao is just too naive. he really believes that robin betrayed all of her previous group just from the reports he heard. come on, if he is a little bit more clever, he won't be tricked to give spandam a buster call in the 1st place XD

i believe there is a theory for that. someone mentioned in previous discussion that aokiji wanted enies lobby to burn down, starting a revolution against the world government. maybe because he himself felt that WG is as corrupt as it can get.
besides, we've seen in the flashback that buster call started firing even when spandyne was still on the island.
he looks scared as hell.XD

I agree. He might be afraid of the battle, still - just the fact, that he stands there, that he burned the flag without hesitating…all that is already so kick ass and makes him braver than most people in the whole OP-world...at least, I think so.
also, something i speculated yesterday when talking with ocean, though i think someone else must have mentioned it in previous discussion threads.
this declaration of war will start the revolution against the world government, and i think this was aokiji's plan from the very beginning. think about how awesomely huge and epic it's gonna be. alabasta kingdom will be the first one to leave the world government and revolt against it, followed by the drum kingdom now led by dolton, the marines at koby's station might become an ally too, and then shanks and whitebeard and dragon, who have been patiently waiting for this moment to begin.
assuming that the D really did come from the kingdom that was once destroyed by the WG, the Ds will now fight back against the WG to reclaim their place and avenge what happened in the past.
of course, blackbeard remains the only D who betrayed his own people and teams up with the world government.
either that, or he is actually a spy sent by whitebeard to infiltrate the WG.
can anybody spell "WORLD WAR?"
XD
HOLY FUCK!! Greatest chapter in, I dunno, months!
Ahhhhh I am in love all over again! Kabuto, the giant pea-shooter! That firebird star looks just like Enel's Thunder bird, but now fire-elemental. BRING IT ON, CP9! Lucci's face betrays pure delight, gotta love the jerk!
Crocodile has two hands?! The animators at Toei LIVE! The first time a major villain re-surfaces! This sidestory is even more awesome than I dared thought.
Oda-sensei! T__________T Thou art the greatest mangaka EV4R!!!!
Thank you BF for hosting, and Stephen for the excellent translation!
<3 <3 <3
(I have to let it out. I am sorry >.<)
OK, a few things: First, that Ao Kiji was manipulating the Straw Hats to start a revolution has been one of my standings for a while now, along with a couple other people and I hope to see it pan out.
Second, I'm still hoping for a luffy VS Kaku fight.
Third, consider the following quote: @Stephen:
And as kind as you all are, if this continues forever…
You will eventually see me as a burden!!!! You will betray me and leave me behind!!!
You WILL!! And that's what I'm most afraid of!!! ...THAT'S why I didn't want you to come after me!!!
If I will die someday,
then I want it to be here and now!!!
I think everybody who said Robin was being stupid should apologize now :glare:
And finally, the comp I can download on is getting repaired, anybody able to link me to the pic of Usopp burning the flag? My fave char is kicking more ass than ever and I can't see it! ><
The thing is, i'd rather have Usopp be pathetic now than do something like this and then go back to being pathetic next week.
Now im not one of the crazy Usopp fans here (jk guys jk) but, i saw this as him, kinda either convincing himself or him realising that it is indeed excitement and hes surprised that he isnt scared.
He has to start being a brave warrior of the sea sometime.
Besides the reason i used the word pathetic is not cos i think Usopp is pathetic, but rather, because of the situation at hand.
Robin has just cried her heart out and told them that she wants to live and be a part of them again, it would be OOC for Usopp in this situation at least to be shaking with fear. He might be a little afraid for sure, but this scene reminded me of Alabasta when Luffy's dream was made fun of by Mr and Mrs 4 adn Usopp got all courageous and fought for Luffy's dream.
Right now his nakama dreams of being back with them again, what better moment to shoe off his courage than now.
Buuuut then again, its only my interpretation of what happened =\
As explained earlier in the thread by someone else, it is intentional. The poor girl's got a runny nose!
Though as much as I'd like to claim I would never make a typo on a line as important as that, I'm sure I've done it before…
OK, sorry I missed your explanation, I was reading in a hurry before I had to leave for work.
Thanks for translating so soon and saving the day! I just realized that the translation was posted right after I went to bed. Figures.
Notes:
Question: Does "kabuto" mean anything? Or did I miss that explanation already?
It'll be neat if Crocodile creates Neo Baroque Works as they have to find another ancient weapeon or chase Luffy (I don't know why that'll suck)
Question: Does "kabuto" mean anything? Or did I miss that explanation already?
Well, it's both, a Pokemon as well as a Naruto-char, so it should mean something…
Well, it's both, a Pokemon as well as a Naruto-char, so it should mean something…
…..I've never noticed that.
- Seems like Robin destroying the ships was started entirely by public rumor.
Eh? It seems a lot more convenient if the Government started it, though. It would really give Robin a bad name, a "demon child" as we've heard, and further convinces people to turn her in. In the Arabasta arc, the first character to say that Robin destroyed 6 ships is a Marine.
If you want to artificially attribute mischief to his character, or fear, neither of which he's displayed so far. It would have been easy for him to take the Straw Hat's himself; it's not like he ran away.
My theory: He wanted to see what kind of people the Straw Hat's were; to see if they were like the rest of Robin's friends who would just betray her. She's been having a relatively higher profile with the Straw Hat Crew (SHC) than with Baroque Works, and I think in hindsight he was checking up to see if she was following his advice (which we just learned; to not make any splashes).
He realized that her friends were the most dangerous sort for her to be mixed with: young, strong, growing, confident, and honest. She can go places, and see things (read: Poneglyphs) with them, and they won't betray her. The same side of him that saw fit to let robin go when she was young (he felt it would have been unjust to do otherwise) was the one that attacked the SHC: he either felt that there was too much danger in Robin's inclusion in the SHC or felt some justice-derived sympathy for the SHC and the inevitable future that awaited them at W7; the future that we're reading now.
I have a few questions to pose to you:
1. Why did Aokiji let Robin go? Was it out of sympathy? Or was it all a part of his "test"? If it was a part of his test, what is the "test"?
See above, I guess. I think in his eyes the situation was still manageable. He doesn't seem like the type to misjudge his enemies; he was able to take care of the StrawHat's no problem, and probably deemed them unable of withstanding CP9 (especially with the Buster Call backup plan).
2. What is Aokiji's part in the incident at Enies Lobby? What is his motivation?
What are you talking about here? We might find out that Aokiji has hated the government all these years for perpetuating misjustice on the people of the world, and was looking for strong allies to strike at the heart of the government! That's of course really farfetched, but I bet every forum member here would shit a brick if Aokiji joined the crew.
Aokiji joining the Straw Hats? Okay, that would be awesome but its not his character, thats far to farfetched, even for Oda.
Eh? It seems a lot more convenient if the Government started it, though. It would really give Robin a bad name, a "demon child" as we've heard, and further convinces people to turn her in. In the Arabasta arc, the first character to say that Robin destroyed 6 ships is a Marine.
Yeah, that could be true, but sometimes the paranoid minds of the general public are more than enough.
Well, it's both, a Pokemon as well as a Naruto-char, so it should mean something…
Hehe…it's also a Japanese steakhouse and sushi bar!
It's listed as meaning "helmet" in my Japanese dictionary. Actually I think I do remember someone mentioning that, but I don't know if it has any other meanings.
OK, a few things: First, that Ao Kiji was manipulating the Straw Hats to start a revolution has been one of my standings for a while now, along with a couple other people and I hope to see it pan out.
i do too.
oh, and voodzik, as you requested:
…that was the best thing ever! I was like "Woo! Go Usopp, er, Sogeking!"
so badass....
"Robin!! I haven't heard it from your mouth yet!! SAY YOU WANT TO LIVE!!!!"
Now how could that page not give anyone a chill to read ? :D~~~
I second that. what an awesome scene that was.
This chapter was so good that it actually coaxes comment from me! So.. we were talking in the #arlong-park channel last night and discussions that were inevitable.. discussions we could not evit, occured.
First, now that Robin's past is complete, we questioned the relative "sadness" of Robin and Nami's past. There isn't really a point to this.. as in, it doesn't matter. I know lots of people here are closet psycho-analysts and like to pretend they know about this kind of thing, but now that its all over some level-headed discussion could be interesting! (?)
I originally said that Robin's past was more painful, and then realized that her pain is so outlandish that we cannot possibly relate to it. When you see Bellmere get shot and die in front of Nami's eyes, you can imagine that happening to your mother, and you get sad, or angry, or whatever reaction you would get. It's a personal thing. Robin's life is so insanely cruel as to defy a personal relationship with her pain in the same manner. Are there any thoughts on this?
Also! I proposed that the top-left panel of Robin crying was the most emotional drawing in One Piece since Nami's Strawhat scene; perhaps even more so. The reason for this is that Oda usually uses sensation and exageration for emotions. But at the pinnacle of that emotion, he stops and uses realism. This shows the character is 'seriously' feeling that way; even the bare essence of the character, the fewest lines that make up that form, express whatever emotion that it is.
Luffy is at his maddest when his mouth is not the size of an entire cow, for instance; Spandam, when he reaches the height of evil, will be portrayed not as some caricature or clown as he is now but as someone who looks scary; who befits his mask. Robin on page 15 is the same way, except the emotion is much harder to put into words. It's not something simple like "anger", or "grief", or even "sadism"; that third one by the way is so excellently portrayed with Lucchi's tiny frame on the last page. Out of all the frames (9 in total, i think? This is from memory), that is the smallest! Yet its the most significant; it certainly tells us more than Luffy's half-page single-minded blurt. But back to the topic at hand…
Robin's emotion on page 15 is a complex one. The world is being lifted from her shoulders; not just the world, but the weight of the demise of her entire people, and her family. (You cannot make the argument that Sauro does not play the role as her father, unless you want to be wrong.) She is also completely distraught over the current circumstances, being held captive by forces with unimaginable power. She also is trying to weigh (not just in her mind, but in her heart, which she had yet to show us!) leading her friends to what seems like certain doom and also wanting to be with them. She makers her decision right there; she realizes the answer in that top left panel on page 15. It's like, the sun coming out after a storm that lasted a century; joy finally shining through layer upon layer of grief and misery. I mean, you can just read it right off of her face. It's incredible.
Thoughts?
Crocodile has two hands?! The animators at Toei LIVE! The first time a major villain re-surfaces! This sidestory is even more awesome than I dared thought.
Well, that answers that question. Now if we can only answer the question of Sanji having two EYES. XD
Great chapter. I especially enjoy Usopp's new weapon. Phoenix Flame Star is awesome. I can't wait to see his battle against Kaku in the next few chapters… We'll get to see what dials he added to Kabuto.
Lucchi looks like he's enjoying this. Should make for an action packed fight. I seriously want all the Mugiwara to open the GoJ after winning their fights and yell:
"You hear that, World Government? This is war! We won't let you hurt anyone else!"
Teen Robin is hot. Too bad she got her mother's triangle nose afterward, though.
I can't wait to see the new bounties.
I can picture the top 4 Bounties in the world:
Dragon: 500 million
Whitebeard: 450 million
Shanks: 400 million
Luffy: 380 million
Quick question: When Sanji, Nami, Usopp and Chopper get wanted posters, do you think we'll see their family names finally? It seems the wanted posters of Odachii have the full name of the character.
Ubiq, the world government tried to wash Ohara off the map, they salvaged their books by throwing them in the lake.
The world presently believes that the Oharan's goal was to "destroy the world" according to the flashback in this chapter.
Any smart person who came to Ohara and saw the books in the lake would realize that they made a great effort to save the books. E.g. they cared about knowledge, rather than destroying the world. They were preservers rather than destroyers. Further investigation might lead to the clearing of the name of the people of Ohara.
I doubt that the marines took the books out of the lake, as that would have taken a shitload of work and in their mind, wouldn't be worth it.
Now go ahead and do your arbitrary "disagree with worm" shit. It really doesn't matter whether or not you agree with me, because I'm flatly correct.
edit:
Oh, very nice post Jonas, I agree with what you wrote, this is probably my favorite chapter in the series. I'd elaborate more but you're calling my name in irc.
@Fire Fist:
I can picture the top 4 Bounties in the world:
Dragon: 500 million
Whitebeard: 450 million
Shanks: 400 million
Luffy: 380 million
**Luffys is too high. 380 million? thats even higher than Dons.
and the rest are way to low in my opinion.**

We don't know bounty for Shanks, Whitebeard and Dragon. They may be over Billions of berri. And Luffy should get 150,000,000 berri on his head after this arc.
wow just wow
Sogeking's new weapon is everything I imagined and more
Robin's past is so sad especially with the two face old lady I guess it's true that money can corrupt anyone.
Next chapter maybe a retelling of how the Franky family lowered the bridge and a slight indication on the match ups to set up for the big 4-0-0
16 year old robin is amazing but I'm starting to think that crocodile is gay if his pants didn't explode after hearing that line mine would've but that's just the ramblings of a teenage boy.
again wow just wow
Jonas, why is it impossible to PM you? ._.;
…
Joekido, I think you're underestimating our overestimations. No Shichibukai has declared outright war against the World Government; otherwise, why would they be Shichibukai? Expect a bounty exceeding de Flamingo, at the very least, for Luffy.
@joekido:

**I think whitebeard might hit the billion Berry mark. Luffy, in my opinion, will ge around 200 million.
=========
And thanks for the chapter.
Sogekings weapon is teh sex. I think he used the breath dial for that attack. Luddy was awesome and Lucchi & zoro had badass smiles. And robins past is just horrible, what messup people. :bawling:
and about the ussop bravery thing. He is being brave, by standing up to his fears. though he is afraid, he is standing up to his fear; which is bravery.**
@Octogon:
**Luffys is too high. 380 million? thats even higher than Dons.

I don't think that Don Flamingo ever flatly declared war on the World Government right next to CP9, under the threat of Buster Call, and on the World Government's doorstep where there are thousands of marines.
If Luffy defeats their secret assassin group and sacks a very well protected Island, and even gets defenders of that island to defect (the two giants), all in order, in their eyes, to keep someone who can ressurect the ancient weapons on his crew, I think it's extremely reasonable to assume that he'll be considered one of the greatest threats to the world government, in, well, the entire world.
Don Flamingo is probably stronger than the strawhat crew at this time, in fact I'm almost certain that he is. But we know full well that strength isn't everything when it comes to your bounty, and the fact that he'll have the only two people in the entire world who can ressurect the ancient weapons, along with the fact that he declared war on the world government will mean they will be thinking, "Oh shit, this guy declared war on us and has access to the ancient weapons."
Ho-hum?
Here's a crazy theory. All this talk about revolution got me thinking. What if the Government, after the Eneas Lobby arc is over decides to offer the empty Schichibukai seat to Luffy? The rationale behind that would be rather than making him a martyr by capturing and executing him, or more likely, rather than risk having him become some sort of revolutionary leader/hero in the future, it would be better to bring him over to the side of the WG (and maybe Aokiji would be the one making the recommendation). Of course Luffy would never accept such an offer, but it would be interesting to see how this would play out with Blackbeard, and the other Schichibukai if something like this does happen.

Ho-hum?
The thing is the WG will probably be covering up this Eneas Lobby incident in their usual style. For the sake of their own survival, they'd have to. If people find out that such a small band of fairly unknown pirates could so easily sack the front door of the World Government, people will start to question if the WG is really all that strong, emboldening pirates and all those who were against the WG all across the world. So if the WG really does make Luffy's bounty that high, people WILL take notice. And they'll start questioning what Luffy (a relative newcomer and unknown) did that would warrant such a bounty. I think the Government will find it hard pressed to come up with a reasonably believable story to justify such a high bounty.
I don't think that Don Flamingo ever flatly declared war on the World Government right next to CP9, under the threat of Buster Call, and on the World Government's doorstep where there are thousands of marines.
**That is true. But I don't think we have heard that Jinbei, whitebeard, shanks, Mihawk, Ben, etc., have ever done a thing either. Just cause luffy does something like this doesn't automaticcly mean he will get a bounty bigger than Don.
Plus he'll probaley have to fight him. How lame would it be if Luffy had a higher bounty than Dons before he fought him?**
I don't think so. Sure they mioght be a threat to the major threat to the WG, but not a huge one. After all they still need the power to back it up. and while they are powerful, they definatley aren't powerful enoughf to be a aute threat to the WG.
Don Flamingo is probably stronger than the strawhat crew at this time, in fact I'm almost certain that he is. Again I seriosly doubt they will get a bounty higher than dons. Strengh might not be everything, but it does play a signifigant role.
