I like my ghost Gerard theory better actually.
Fairy Taint Discussion II
-
-
Maybe he created the No1 guild with a lot of Jellals.
I hope that Mest is one of the 10 holy mages now, dude is awesome.
-
Well, this was all a bit more interesting than the last few have been. I'll give it that.
But what really counts is how things shape up.
Mashima is actually choosing to tackle the issue of Lucy losing her father after seven years missed in the blink of an eye.
I'll also give it a little credit that Mashima chose a large portion of his cast to do this to rather than a select two or three. I feel it makes things more interesting. For the series sake, I hope more and more changes keep revealing themselves. 7 years is a looooooong time.
-
Okay this was a much better chapter, we start to see the effect of the missing members absence and it truly does seem to be serious. I actully I'm curious what has gone on since their disapperence. Other notable things include seeing Lamia Scale again (Loving the stache and beard Jura, and did Yuka's eyebrows get bigger o_-? Also Sherry seems like a completely different character I hardly recognized her if not for the info box. Also I actually laughed at Juvia's little love diagram), Totomaru teaching Romeo (which explains why it got blown out so easily, har har) and was surprised Marakov actually let Marco keep his position as Guild leader, gasp and shock a change that actually stuck?
Poor Lucy though, homeless and now an orphan, quite welcome back celebration for her.
-
Hm not a terrible chapter. At least it seems to be taking a step in the right direction again. I guess I can't fully quit now that we got a few little nuggets.
-
This chapter managed to squeeze a few chuckles out of me. The Juvia panel was golden. Overall, I feel the rent thing was just a gag. I don't see why people were so worked up about it, but then again, everyone was assuming it was an actual plot thread.
What I really like about this chapter is what I really like about Fairy Tail, and that's its in-between arcs stuff. You know, like Gajeel's song and stuff. Generally, Mashima's not too bad about his in-between arc plotlines, but when he's actually telling a story… oh boy.
Not a bad chapter though. Could be better, but could be much much worse.
-
As much as this disgusting Gildartz-scene (the father-daughter thing has been delivered very bad up to this point, and erupts in this terrible way) and other things like Wendy judging over her 7 years later-version, or the stuff with the cats (all three of those scenes really show how important this fanservice stuff is to Hiro Mashima and the process of keeping his manga alive) felt so wrong ..
.. the series proved again, that these chapters "in between" with the whole guild fooling around, are the few good moments it has.
still, i´m not over that messed up …. ending of the hopefully last promising arc.
i really feel bad about reading FT after all this. -
i liked it, nice to see some more changes unfolding.
i dug the whole lucy thing because in my eyes it demonstrates the consequence of taking something/someone for granted.
Lucy always avoided seeing him in the past, and now, moments after finally deciding to visit him, she finds out that he is dead. -
My word, that chapter was actually not too bad. What's going on here? How strange.
-
Mashima does in-between arc stuff just fine, truthfully.
If FT had more breathing space between arcs, like it did back in the beginning - more time to expand on the world and have some character development, and more time to advance plotlines inbetween arcs - it'd be a better manga for sure.
-
Like Silence said FT does well inbetween arcs, but the shit hits the fan when Natsu gets a random power-up accompanied with a friendship speech.
-
Mashima has this habit of dropping the bomb once he starts taking the story somewhere. I mean, look how great this last arc started…
-
Fairy Tail is usually decent until we get a glimpse of some evil "undefeatable team". Then it all goes to shit.
-
can Mashima just turn FT into a magically-themed slice of life/ecchi? I mean, he's got the ecchi part already, and, as we've established, he does these breather chapters well enough. It's just that his story arcs suck giant dragon balls. Let's see them actually doing jobs like they're supposed to, and having zany fun times.
-
Yeah I have to agree. Mashima could probably make a pretty good slice of life manga. He does have good ideas and powers and stuff for shonen arcs, just no idea how to execute them into good shonen. On the other hand, the side stories are fun to read and can be more entertaining to read than the main series (in a good way), though it's hard to say if he could keep up that quality in a longer running story.
-
We already have a magically-themed slice of life/ecchi show - Negima.
…or had, since it became a shonen/poster for genre shift.
-
I have said this before. FT would be better if it were a light hearted simple adventure like Dragon Ball. Like say… going from place to place tracking down clues on the dragon's whereabouts, taking on guild jobs to expand the world and learn about other guilds(with some conflict too) and a hefty balance between comedic villains and threatening/nonredeemable villains. Not only that, but little adventures where the main characters can earn thier abilities rather than just having thier abilities given to them (think of an RPG where you gain new powerful arts in a dungeon's final room, a tip from an ancient scroll, an old master, BUYING THEM, ect).
And this is another issue shonen usually have, but giving a role for supporting characters would be nice too. Something that does not involve fighting or attempting to fight. That's why the Festival arc just sucks balls for me. You have characters like Reevus that waste a role to be off-screened for "shock factor". It would be cool if other guild members would assist those that go on about on a job. Like say someone in the guild has intelligence on a job's location, hints on what the main characters can do, giving them items that can help them succeed, stuff a guild that's build around the foundation of friendship can offer. But I guess that's too much of a long line for Mashima to draw... and the series is quite popular, so there's no doubt in his mind that's telling him to try harder.

No it still has those moments, the genre shift just made those moments better.
-
I wasn't looking forward to this chapter, I'm looking forward to the next.
Everyone has already said most of how I feel about in-guild stuff. They left some interesting questions that I forgot about and now we can be assured they'll actually answer some.
Jellal's not dead (yet). Two 'major' deaths off-screen? No chance. Cue Council arc, Raven Tail arc and Dragon arc (starring Zeref).

Actually, now it's sorta back to that again. And it doesn't feel like the author ever stopped.

Fun question:
If you could kill off a character (obviously in a dramatic, fitting way) which character would it be?
My vote would Makarov mainly for the characters in the guild to actually develop. I would rather see Lucy get killed off because I don't like her, but I don't see the benefit plot-wise, seeing as she is the main character and the vehicle for the audience to interpret the world of magic.

I'd kill off Natsu.
Mainly because he's the character that, in the end, everyone relies on, and he pretty much holds the group together. He always ends up fighting the big, important battles at the end of an arc, and has several qualities of the conventional hero archetype, making it all too easy for the others to be upstaged by his actions. Losing him would cause some major shifts in dynamics throughout the guild, and would also lead to some very beneficial character development. Several arcs of the story could be devoted to the group, especially those who were closest to him, dealing with the loss, and eventually building up the strength, mentally and physically, to recover from the blow to their team. Really, it would give the audience a good emotional impact that completely changes the way everyone thinks about the series, and the story would undoubtedly grow from it.
Well, I actually haven't read Fairy Tail in a while, but from what I do know of the story thus far, it seems like the best logical conclusion.

I'm with this guy, I would love to see this become an ensemble cast book.

Fairy Tail special; Another attempt by Mashima.
!
!
!
!
!
!
-
Zippers on bikini? That is some Nomura shit right there.
Yeah the Erza and Wendy ones….......yep.
-
Yep. .
-
Where does he find the time….
-
Mashima.exe .
-
Chapter is up on mangastream, btw. Lots of things that are very hard to care about and make me wonder even more why there ever was a timeskip.
! Everything we've seen up to this point could easily have just happened while they were away at the island.
-
Beginning of the chapter… Natsu has sense and then... Mashima thought it was a good idea to place a couple of random trolls as passerby. So forced.
continues chapter
-
Natsu's perpetual expression of mild perturbation was bemusing.
-
Finished. Decent chapter I guess. The only part I didn't really like are the those couple of random girls that was talking out loud about their dads, but overall I liked this route better than mourning in front of a grave.
Also, I'm guessing whatever Erza heard about Jello isn't all that of a big deal. He's probally still alive… Boooo!!
-
You know I was fine with the girls until they mentioned wanting their fathers to drop dead.
Who the fuck just casually says that aloud? -
Decent chapter. The best part for me was seeing the Guildmaster of Twilight Ogre crap himself when faced with Purgatory Armor Erza and Satan Soul Mirajane. Just imagine if Gildarts had been with them, too.
-
Good chapter and pretty touching. I guess I'm okay with Twilight Ogre getting fodderized like that. And I like how Mashima makes anyone with a disgusting personality butt ugly.
-
As if bitches don't allow to be beautiful: 2 doodle faces
Kizaru long lost brother, only with different parents
Last, you cry= I smile XD -
So the guild is free of its debts and Lucy's over her father's death. What was the point of this time-skip again?
-
That chapter was interesting but I want something to happen and quick
-
http://mangastream.com/read/fairy_tail/80129557/4 Wow, he completely screwed over all the seriousness of the moment in record time.
-
The only thing I didn't like in this chapter was the two trolls. That's all.
-
Meh chapter, you pretty much resolved every single time skip related plot line in a chapter.
And nice to see that it wasn't feeling douchee that made the landlady change her mind, but just happening to get 7 years' worth of rent in the mail.
If her father could afford that, and was sending stuff over all the time, why didn't he just pay the rent every month ? Why did he spontaneously decide to pay the rent for an apartment that hasn't been payed for 7 years just as he's about to die ?
-
He should have let the girls talk more tastefully, such as whispering with each other in a less troll-ish manner.
The chapter is okay in itself but as a part of the arc, I wonder what the point is. -
@Thousand:
I'll give Mashima some credit, at least he didn't go the "Dad is secretly alive but hiding from debt collectors" route.
Now that you've mentioned it, Hiro will do it :getlost:
-
Back to the usual Fairy Tail.
-
The chapter was okay, the girls talking about wanting theyre father dead felt bit forced, and Mashima is resolving things too fast.
-
That was alright, the "time-skip" still feels pretty pointless so far though.
-
Fairy Tail would make a much better manga if it was constructed like "Sgt. Frog" or "Yankee-Kun To Magane-Chan".
-
I guess this is the last in-between arcs chapter, so the real shit will begin soon.
-
What? I don't get it why would you want to be in the Future, that is stupid.
-
The real shit usually the worst parts of Fairy Tail. I could read a year of in-between stuff over those.
