One Piece Chapter 638 "Runawayhoshi" Discussion

I still don't see how it work having any of the Merfolk join the SH since they would loose a majority of their mobility being unable to have the support bubbles out in the rest of the world. Fukaboshi is next in line for the throne and I think he has shown more depth due to his focusing on that future where Ryuboshi and Manboshi were able to focus more on keeping Shirahoshi from getting upset.
Now if we really want to pick from the royal family, I would go with Ryuboshi since he at least has a build like Aladdin who was already shown to be capable of keeping up out of the water by taking up a serpent like motion. Not that the SHs need another swordsman, but I definitely agree that someone originating from FI will join.
Actually, does it not make sense for Fukaboshi to not be 100% due to the earlier damage he took?
Yes, I do agree that it may seem like a logistical problem to have one of the merfolk join the crew, but I think either Fukaboshi can get away with it because he seems buff enough to be able to propel and move himself on dry surfaces, or Shirahoshi because of her sheer size (if Oda can make San Juan Wolf be a part of Blackbeard's crew, he can make Shirahoshi work, and if anything, working off the speculation that Blackbeard's crew will have one-on-one duals with the Strawhats, it may be support Shirahoshi joining just to have a giant person matchup ). I'm not saying this discredits the other two brothers from joining; I'm sure physically they could also adapt to dry land as well, but I'm saying that it seems very unlikely that the two more minor brothers will join unless we see a more specific character development for either of them. In the end though, I can still see the pitfalls against any of the Royal Family joining, just because of the sheer political suicide they would be committing, akin to why Vivi couldn't join. I still personally feel though that Shirahoshi would either join due to the "Child of Destiny" prophecy (but she doesn't necessarily have to join to live up to this destiny, for all we know it isn't even Luffy who would guide her) or Fukaboshi would join due to feeling indebted to the Straw hats and wanting to align himself with what would be considered one of the most powerful pirate groups. But again, that would be political suicide considering he could probably do more as the next king in line.
And yes, I totally agree that Fukaboshi should still be recovering from his battle injuries and thus he isn't completely outracing Hordy despite being a merman. :D

You don't destroy something to find out why it is important. Neptune already gave us a hint about its use/need.
And guys, could we please think before posting ideas and theories?
Thanks! :)

I understand Hodi but I don't understand this. How does no SH make it a bad chapter. like wtf? ever hear of content, art, plot changes, creativity etc.
Normally it's fine without the other SH, but we have not seen much of the new powerups yet, so i think it's boring tithout them right now.

Yeah I know… we only have the whole of the New World to see the SHs and their new powerups.

I wonder what those people who complain every f**ing week would think if we had a chapter full of fancy moves for no reason, and with absolutely nothing happening story-wise.
-
I was wondering, "what the heck are those weird things on Fukaboshi's back?" and finally started looking back with panels of Luffy on Fukaboshi, and they're Luffy's hands. You can see them outstretched on page 15, bottom left panel.. page 16, on the right side of the bottom panel.. page 17, on the right of the top panel.. page 17, middle panel, and finally, where they look all f'd up, the bottom panel of page 17. Unless I'm horribly mistaken, those are Luffy's hands attached to Fukaboshi's strap things, and they look like they're being affected by the sea and/or hardened by CoA (which I kind of doubt since it looks much different than the usual style). They look like little puppet stubs of hands. I think what this is is Luffy's arms being affected by the sea since he's a Rubberman. Since his body is in a bubble, it's just his hands taking the blow.
This makes me hope for a battle between Hody and Luffy riding on Fukaboshi's back where Luffy snipes at Hody with his arms before they get too affected by the sea, and that'll hopefully give Oda a chance to explain this underwater stuff in the manga, since he explained that if your body isn't in water, you don't become useless if you're a DF user in an SBS.

LOL. Well, surely it wasn't a well-thought, and solid-fact-based theory. But I honestly don't think I deserved that "think before posting ideas n theories" remark. Of course u dont need to destroy something to know why it's important, its not something u'd normally do. But that has never stopped it from being used in a story-telling before. Please answer me honestly, how many times have u read a story where some object were not meant to be touched, or should be protected at all cost. Only to have it destroyed and u see exactly why it should be protected. Hell, as far as I'm concerned whenever Luffy is around, sumtin that u shouldn't mess with at the first place will end up being screwed at. So I still stand at my previous post, theres a chance Noah will end up being destroyed, (and chances are, Luffy is the one to destroy it, and it will end up causing the destruction of FI)

Im liking this chapter but looking much more forward to their first yankou or admiral fight( or Doflamingo) n guys enjoy the fighting now as we all know

I'm looking forward for that as well, and speaking of yonkou what's taking Big Mam so long.

I think you misunderstanded what i wrote :P

No one ever dies from a stomach stab in one piece but…. that's a big trident. Anyways I can't wait to see this chapter in the anime. Whoever thought that van der decken would join. I would say that his power is too over powered and besides his devil fruit power he seems somewhat useless.
Has anyone ever been stabbed in the stomach, let alone by a trident before now. I guess the closets to being impaled or stabbed would be Ace by that evil, evil man.
@TheManWithNoName:Hodi is weak, but that doesn't make him a bad villain.
And by weak, I mean when compared to the Straw Hats, obviously.I think you mean the new Straw Hats, there are going to be a LOT of people that are going to be considered weak to them now. There apparent growth in power is quite incredible, seeing as how this is just Luffy's normal attacks doing this much damage. Hodi would have been a decent villian before the time skip but since Luffy is so strong it is almost like he is boring, he sucks, he is an Arlong clone. The fishmen have been mistreated time and time again, heck Arlong was there with Hodi to hear what humans did to there former captain. Who wouldn't want to get back at the establishment that has mistreated them.
Also long shot but we could not have a new crew member for SH, Luffy could ask the princess and she can just refuse like the old man did who is caring for Laboon.

I have to agree that Hodi has qualities that make him quite a good vilian despite the fact, that he can't even touch luffy on land.
Dekken will most likely die, but not before pulling some stunt against hody, like some people have already said. But after Pell and Kohza(and some others) , I wouldn't be surprised, if he somehow made it out alive.
This was one of the first chapters of FI that I really enjoyed. I just hope the amount of epicness will stay at this level the following chapters, because I thought about stopping to read One Piece for most of the FI arc.
Maybe I should stop for a few months and read everything in one go. Has anyone tried that out before ? -

Do it, it give more juice to it all // I do it from time to time, it is great

I have. That's because I was in jail for a whole month, otherwise I couldn't do it. And it was amazing being able to read 5 chapters in a row…Especially in the middle of the Whitebeard war (Chapter 559 - 563)

Pff. After 638 chapters you'd think that'd have crossed our minds.

That was more of a general remark rather that a personal one.
As for your question it's really simple. Noah is obviously not your usual object, from it being ancient, its huge size, to the fact that this ship has a purpose that is yet to be revealed in the story, and probably a huge one, and one that made even moving it from its place a big deal for Neptune. Adding to it that this purpose is only known by Neptune himself only adds more importance to it.
Would destroying it really make sense after all that. Now let's say Luffy want to destroy the ship. How? That thing is like 10 times the size of Wadatsumi, and we've seen how that went. And why would he want to destroy it anyway? To save Shirahoshi? that was already taken care of by her brothers. The only reason Luffy is heading to the ship are the ones on the ship, and not the ship itself.
Seriously, destroying a ship only to destroy the island would be dump. "I'll save you and kill everybody else!!". You know, the possibility of that happening would've been bigger if Luffy was alone with VDD and Hody.
-

I remembered this http://www.mangareader.net/103-2286-7/one-piece/chapter-179.html
-
I can't help but wonder if Oda's ideals about killing characters has changed any since killing Ace. Seriously, don't think so but it crossed my mind.
Anyway, I hope Deckon isn't done for the arc after this. I like him.

LOL. Sorry if I took it personal, it was my post that u quoted
And yes, all of those points are of course valid. But that wasn't my question was it? The question was have u ever read stories about things u should protect because its important and ended up getting destroyed.
I guess it was my bad for saying that it WILL be destroyed, let me try that again. Noah MIGHT be destroyed in the end, and that the event can be used (by Oda) to destroy FI and fulfill the prophecy. As to how and why and such, I can only say my imagination isn't on par with Oda. (I could try but that'll only prolong the unnecessary)
It all comes down to: Do you really think its not possible for Noah to be destroyed after this deal with VDD and Hodi is finished?
If No, then we're seeing eye to eye. If Yes, then u've made ur reasons clear in ur post and I'm not going to argue based on a probability like this -
What's the point? It would make more sense for it to fall down on the island and for the SH's to try to stop it than to have the ship float up.
To fuck with Hodi and we don't know why Nepture said it couldn't be moved.
-
I'm looking forward for that as well, and speaking of yonkou what's taking Big Mam so long.
Aha I know what you mean, surely a Yankou would be against the thought of her candy revenue being destroyed. Also who else is suspicious that Big mam is the mother of proposal Lola? I dont visit here enough to know if anyone else has this theory?
either way i remain adamant that Kaido will be the first Yankou to fall at Luffys feet

it's a very prominent theory, a lot of people subscribe to it.
as for Kaido, are we really sure that he will fight any of the Yonkou? I figure he'll make allies with Marco and won't ever fight Shanks.
As far as big threats, I just want to see him smash Blackbeard and Akainu.

Aha im with you there, when luffy jet punched blackbeard in impel down i jizzed in my pants. as for shanks, luffy would never come up against shanks, he has too much respect for him and theyd have no need, unless you were talkin bout kaido against shanks wich would be something to see
im very sure luffy will fight a yankou but im thinking he will fight Doflamingo and then Aokiji. Itll either be a long while before Luffy fights a Yankou or a very short one
as for the theory… DAMMIT!

I sense a Power-Level discussion coming, get your sperg-hats and your neckbeards ready, cause its about to go down.
Hodi is probably weaker than Crocodile, Enel and Lucci, and with a strenght slightly equal to Arlong's, purely when it comes to undrugged Hodi on land. Multiply that by 10 when he is on water and multiply that by 10 when he's on drugs, he should be about CP9 level strenght.
He def. wouldn't have been much of a trouble for Luffy even before the TimeSkip.

maybe what Neptune said about it can't be move is,, Noah's purpose is supposed to block a cave or something so some nasty sea kings couldn't get into FI. .
-
I love your picture. I don't really like Lucci but I love the bird. I got a bite plate and my voice is annoying now so i need that bird to talk for me.

My theory is that Kaido will be the "only" yankou to fall at Luffys feet,, and it's gonna be BB and Kaido teaming up against Luffy and Shanks but that might happen in a while. .
Right now he has to meet up with Big mam.. probably big mam will chase luffy after destroying her candy factory (will have a misunderstanding) but later on will get luffy's respect after seeing Gold D. Roger in Luffy.

lol im thinking along the same lines aswell… apart from the part about Luffy and shanks against blackbeard and Kaido. thats just a story Chuck Norris said gives him nightmares.

Now that's funny. But Chuck Norris will only have a nightmare if he dreams of himself.

Haha im now convinced that Chuck Norris is a Yankou
-
I'm looking forward for that as well, and speaking of yonkou what's taking Big Mam so long.
The New World is huge. It might take days, even weeks to reach Fishman Island from where she is right now and the factory was demolished just some minutes ago.
-
- I made a case in the past that the palace was floating in the sky and that the upper bubble must be something else. Of course, I was wrong, which is fine. But my reasoning for believing it has turned into mistakes on Oda's part. Not huge mistakes by any means, and certainly nothing to get worked up over, but I'm still a bit disappointed by them.
What mistakes are you referring to?
I also don't really understand why Jinbe didn't go with Luffy. The ocean is his playground, and he's not really needed in the plaza with the royal family all gone.
I mean… I dunno how Sanji or anyone else would've gotten him out there ._.
-
Actually I think Sanji might have be able to do it but then again maybe not.
-
I really hope that they explain Noah sooner than later, but it seems to be that Noah will probably be the cause of the destruction of Fishman Island.
-
The real meaning of one piece.
-
I can't see Decken dying. As harsh as it seems, he is too unimportant for that. Oda kills characters to make an emotional impact (Bell-mere, Hililuk, Tom, Tiger & Otohime and of course Ace), but thats it.
He also doesn't need to die, loosing consciousness does the trick as well in all likeliness.
!
!
! :ninja:
-
It's highly likely. Kaido will learn somehow that Luffy inherited Shanks' will and will try to kill him to get back at Shanks for stopping him from having a shot at Whitebeard or something.
And then we all know what happens, The Straw Hat crew crushes Kaido kaizokudan.–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Noah is the ship that the first people of Fishman island intended to use to go live under the sun. These people are the ancestors of the deceased otohime.
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
I am now thinking of a new theory for the next chapters ...
Decken is not genuinely bad, he is just crazy, nuts or mad. Which is why he can be put to use.
He will not die, he'll be saved by Luffy, being endebted to Luffy for eternity as is half the planet (trolololo) he'll accept to do what he's doing now with everyone aboard the Noah and to finally allow the prophecy to realised itself. This is destiny !!! -

I doubt Kaido's at bad terms with Shanks. They probably just got drunk to the point where they couldn't even walk anymore and Shanks convinced him to let it go.
