Talk about background music in specific animes, and what you think about it. An anime that I really didn't like had some of the best background music I've heard: .hack//sign.
The anime with good/bad background music.
-
-
I thought Wolf's Rain was lame, but the Yoko Kanno music was awesome (aside from that title song).
GTO anime music was kinda bad.
Edit: Oh yeah, and you can't forget Cowboy freaking Bebop.
-
Cowboy Bebop probably has the best soundtrack Iv'e ever heard
Other BGM I appreicate is Bo-bobo and Gash Bell.
Bad BGM? None really comes to mind… except ShoPro's crap they did for Zatch Bell.
-
Blood+ has amazing background music, probably the best I've ever heard. To be expected from Hans Zimmer, I suppose.
Worst? Well Bleach would have to rank pretty high… kind of growing on me in a sense now, but it took 50 freakin episodes? That's pretty bad.
Edit: Oh, and the horrific dub of Initial D would have to be the absolute worst now that I think of it. Got rid the awesome eurobeat and inserted some garbage, ugh...
-
good and bad bgm would be dbz. Sometimes it had a great bgm where other times it didnt fit tho for pretty much overall it kicked ass.
tho the worst bgm ive heard was that awful crap called the 4kids bgm
-
I really enjoyed Cowboy Bebop's BGM along with the Big O's BGM.
As for bad background music, I never really heard any that made me want to jam a fork into my ear and a spoon up my ass to distract me from the music. But I find Lupin the Third's and Robotech's BGM to be average. A few hits and a bunch of misses.
-
I like Naruto's background music, too. Its a good mix of synth-guitar, and I kind of like the random "Suye!"'s (Or whatever you wanna call it). As forCowboy Bebop, I really haven't seen enough of it to give my opinion.
-
dragonball gt (dub) don't know how many times i heard those cheesy solos and that damn bass.
good: yuyu hakusho , HxH , Bo-BoBo , Trigun , Cowboy Bebop .
I feel the same thing about bleach too i dont like the 3rd begining (the yelling at the end got on my nerves.)
-
dragonball gt (dub) don't know how many times i heard those cheesy solos and that damn bass.
Heh; we have a name for that background music: CHRIS SABAT HARDKORE GITAR SOLO!!!!!
-
Love .hack//sign and Noir a lot. Bebop was great. And I actually like the music in Naruto as well for some reason (not sure why).
I can't think of any I absolutely hate. Hmm…. gonna have to think about it.
-
oh yeah I forgot about Naruto's cool music.
I think Bleach music is OK except for that one song. You know, that one that plays when Ichigo is in kick-ass mode, with that chick singing "gotta be the centre of attraction." It's so gei.
I also like the music from Vision of Escaflowne (actually, I like any music by Yoko Kanno).
-
I started watching Tsubasa Chronicle recently, the background music is awesome. The series is alright right now.
-
Bebop's soundtrack is so OVER-RATED if you ask me.
Favorites:
.hack//sign
S-CRY-ed
Rurouni Kenshin (Kyoto)
Yu-Gi-Oh (dub) Yes, I enjoy it a lotBad:
4Kids OP
Dragonball GT dub
I really only HATE those two. -
I love the BGM for Cowboy Bebop and Trigun, and i'm a big fan for the escaflowne soundtrack, and the Macross Plus soundtrack.
Dub DBZ/GT takes the cake for bad soundtracks. I really wish they decided to keep the original music when the redubbed the older episodes. Not a big fan of the original music in Vampire Hunter D either. Not the new one, but the old eighties version. Chock full of cheesy sinth music that completely ruined the mood for a bunch of scenes. -
Naruto is a given for me; it's one of the reasons I consider the anime better than the manga, for crying out loud. The Music is simply perfect for conveying the mood it needs to, and often times really pushes the emotion of the scenes further than the manga does.
Aside from that, first, there's anything by Yuki Kajiura. Her music often makes whatever anime she's working on, be it .Hack//Sign, Noir, or Tsubasa.
Also on my list is Gun X Sword's soundtrack, which is just fun to listen to and has quite a good share of excellent songs.
After finishing watching it again, Outlaw Star is definitely on my list, partly for it's BGM, but also for having one of the coolest opening themes ever.
More to come later, but that's what I have so far.
-
Good
- DragonBall Z Buu Saga (haven't seen the older arcs in the original)
- Lupin III Series 1
- DragonBall
- One Piece
- Slayers
Bad
- Yu-Gi-Oh (dub)
- DragonBall GT (dub)
- One Piece (dub) :glare: I think we all saw this coming
-
I like One Piece's background music. Hikaru no Go is also has some of the best background music IMO. GetBaackers has some good stuff too. There's not too much background music I hate, it's mostly "I don't like it, but it's not bad either". In fact, I can't think of any that I don't particularily like right now….. Maybe it'll come later.
-
Giant Robo.
And I like that one song that is in the background of certain Berserk episodes….
-
I started watching Tsubasa Chronicle recently, the background music is awesome. The series is alright right now.
:dito:
Yu-Gi-Oh (dub) Yes, I enjoy it a lot
Heh, its pretty good, but I still think the japanese one is way better.
Good
DBZ Movies
Eyeshield 21
Law of UekiBad
Megaman NT Warriors(yes the dub) -
laughs Hikaru no Go! The music's about the only thing that makes watching a game I don't play for ten minutes seem like the most gripping experience I could possibly having at that moment.
Anything Yoko Kanno touches turns to gold; particularly Cowboy Bebop and of course Escaflowne, both of which I love, for different reasons.
Noir wins for best battle music that involves opera.
Kenshin wins for best battle music that involves xylophones.
Kenshin OVA wins for best Historical Epic Battle Music (Wars of the Last Wolves, sooo great.)
Bleach loses for worst battle music involving tacky female vocal.
One Piece wins best non-original score for playing Dvorak's New World Symphony, last mvt, with no cuts (!) -
Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, and FLCL all had excellent BGMs. Whilst Yugioh GX's dub had terrible music. Gash and Rurouni Kenshin are also good.
-
Yoko Kanno is without question one of if not the greatest anime music composer out there right now. The only one who can give her a run for her money is Joe Hiashi (the man behind all the music in Miyazaki's movies). Personally I like Escaflowne music over Cowboy Bebop, but I think it's because I'm a classical junkie. "Dance of the Curse" is still one of my favorite BGMs ever.
Others I really like:
1. One Piece. This actually has excellent BGMs (and OP/ED too) that successfully convey the emotions and spirit of the pirate world. And I will never forgive 4Kids for removing it. There was NO POINT to that.
2. Naruto. One of the best things going for the anime. A mix of classical japanese and rock, which is exactly like the world of Naruto itself. Always a good thing to listen to, and can help me get all "genki-ied up" if I need it.
3. Honey and Clover. I dunno who did the music, but I congradulate them on making very catchy and memorable BGMs. (especially the music that plays during funny moments usually involving Morita)
4. Fruits Basket. A soundtrack that just pulls at your heartstrings. Ethereal and elegiac, something I like to listen to when I relax.
-
I like Gash Bell's music, too.
-
I like Hajime no Ippo's music. It ebbs and flows like a real match. I especially like the music when ippo is about to win in his last match in the anime(not the ova or tv special but most wouldnt know anyway). Its called Inner Light. You guys should check it out
-
I just realised how cool Initial D's soundtrack is. That music is so good to listen too, especially when working out.
-
good:
naruto, last exile, fullmetal alchemist, noir, hack/sign (better than the serie itself :glare: ) and a lot more for sure.
bad:
bleach, bleach, bleach. man i really don't like the background themes. the op/ed are great but the rest… fits the serie! (average, très average)
-
Best:
.hack//sign
Mai Hime
Honey and Clover (The music is really excellent!
Full Metal Alchemist
Rurouni Kenshin
Hikaru no GoWorst:
Bleach is all I can think of. XD -
I liked cowboy Bebops music. I can't think of an example for bad background music
-
Best:
Naruto, Full Metal Alchemist and Elfen Lied [the background music just seemed to fit the situation so nicely] And One PieceWorst: Hate to say it, but Bleach. Every thing else, including Opening/closing songs have been great, Just the background could have been alot better.
-
I absolutely loved the background music of Monster Rancher. I mostly liked that kiddie anime because of the music actually. It´s a real pitty that this music can nowhere be found neither to buy nor to download.
Other series with good soundtracks are City Hunter which has a very good overall soundtrack and X where I totally dig the theme that´s always playing in the background.
-
Tsubasa Chronicles has some nice classical and choir-esque music. Some of it reminds of what was used in .hack///sign It was done by the same animation studio, so it's possible.
I'm not really fond of Bleach's background music. The ones used for comedy bits are nice, but most of them are annoying.
-
Giant Robo.
And I like that one song that is in the background of certain Berserk episodes….
Quoting myself from 2005.
But I want to add Turn A Gundam to the list.
-
Old quote @warp:
tho the worst bgm ive heard was that awful crap called the 4kids bgm
Same here. The new bgm replacing the old bgm on 4Kids's anime is annoying.
I've never heard any bad bgm in anime in its original format, though. The OP and ED theme to Peace Maker Kurogane hardly fits the anime at all. I like those songs, though.
-
best would probably be
Gankutsuou
Hunter X Hunter
Giant Robo
Bebop
AKIRA (that movie had awesome music)
Hellsing (only good thing about the TV show) -
Good:
Dragon Ball
Dragon Ball Z
Dragon Ball GTBad:
Dragonball Z DubDoesn't even deserve to be in bad:
Dragon Ball GT dub…ugh. -
Konjiki no Gash Bell! and Digimon Adventure had awesome BGMs.
-
best:
initial D
naruto (near the beginning of the series…the music really brings the mood...now...it sucks...)
HXH
Hikaru no gobad:4kids one piece
-
My favorites are….
One Piece (yay being a fanboy...)
Hikaru no Go (It just kicks ass)
Eyeshield 21 (sucky anime compared to manga, but I do enjoy the music)
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (anyone need the OST? I own it and can upload.)
DB/Z (for the memories)
Cowboy Bebop (As a lot have said it already, no explanation needed)
FMA (I think it is really good. Speaking of FMA anime... OVAs that follow the manga would be nice...) -
Best: Saint Seiya, One Piece, FMA, City Hunter, Dragonball/Z/GT, Hokuto no Ken, all awesome.
As for worst, anything with massive synthesized crap like Bleach, in fact most of the newer shows are like this..
-
Can't believe I forgot Hokuto no Ken.
Retro goodness.
-
Recent One piece
Hajime no Ippo
Darker than black
Bleach(am I the only who likes it? especially the hispanic arrancar themes)
Samurai CHamplooWhenever you are asked to think of titles, you can't think of them. XD
-
http://www.box.net/shared/xyrqfivqtg
this song alone is enough for HxH to get on my good list
-
Recent
Bleach(am I the only who likes it? especially the hispanic arrancar themes)They gave them Hispanic themes ? Wow I need to see/hear this, hope it's better then the one song with the woman singing. -_-
-
Just from what I've seen
Good:
One Piece (Japanese obviously)
FMA
Cowboy Bebop
Yu-Gi-Oh! (Japanese)
Gash Ball (Japanese)
Naruto (selectively, there's some really good and there's some really bad)
Death Note (selectively, all the instrumental tracks are awesome but most of the synthesized tracks suck horribly)
Naruto Shippuuden (honestly, I like it better than the original Naruto music)
Eureka SevenBad:
BleachThere are some others that I don't really know where to put them.
-
Good: Akagi, FLCL, Cowboy Bebop, One Piece.
Bad: most anime.
-
Bleac has a few good tracks, the Arrancar theme is excellent, but the one with that woman singing really makes no sense to me.
-
@EvilGamerX:
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (anyone need the OST? I own it and can upload.)
Oh, that'd be awesome if you did that. (a little late)
Oh, and I forgot Dragonball and Z. Its original BGM is pretty underrated.
-
My favorites:
One piece (duh)
Hajime no Ippo
Yugioh (japanese, it's just amazing)
Death note
BleachSo-so:
Jojo's bizarre adventure
NarutoDon't like:
Can't think of any at the moment -
Good:
Kaleido Star
One Piece
FLCL
.hack//Liminality
.hack//Sign
EscaflowneBad:
Nothing really comes to mind at the moment. I've never bothered watching Bleach or very much of Naruto so I can't really give a valid opinion on their BGM tracks. -
So-so:
Jojo's bizarre adventureOh God, I couldn't stand that soundtrack, especially in the original OVA. It sounded like a neverending cereal jingle; the prequel OVA's OST wasn't much better, but resembled actual music at least. Voodoo Kingdom is an amazing song, though.
Uh…
Good:
Cowboy Bebop/most Yoko Kanno stuff
FLCL
My Neighbor TotoroBad:
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure OVA
Most of the completely synthesized stuff that you see in newer anime these days
