I even said please. Please don't spout bullshit and you did anyhow.
Most Disappointing Thing in One Piece
-
-
Werewolf literally means manwolf. The only criteria are "man" and "wolf."
-
L-O-L. Yes, by ignoring all the things that make a werewolf a werewolf, Jyabura totally fits that description. Though to be fair, the definition of a werewolf depends on what country you live in; there's no universal answer because it's a creature that's not real, and taking liberties with it is up to anyone. But unless Oda states/has stated that he is, anyone claiming otherwise is the real bullshit spouter. Just saying.
Anyways, the most disappointing thing in One Piece right now is Chapter 609. Pell's survival, Hodi, shit like Hancock having the key to Ace's handcuffs during the war, or any number of flaws about the war arc itself, have got nothing on this chapter. And no, the transvestite joke in the following chapter still doesn't make it any less idiotic and awful.

Because there weren't any penguins, right?
-
Ooo I love that avatar. Penguins rule. But sadly no, that's not the reason. Others may have liked it, but I found a giant mermaid-shaped nosebleed being turned into an actual plot point to be the most godawful shit I've ever seen.

That was pretty stupid. I think Oda could have gone about that without having to make a typical comic relief in manga into a plot device.

About the anime,
The most disappointing this is not seeing a double episode for years!!
Yet there are too many weeks in which no episode was released. -

This is pretty much saying a flood is wet.

Surely there's something the anime did well? …..

Okay, it's not disappointing so much as it was a big WTF moment the first time reading through. It's just far too convenient for my liking. And the gates of justice were also opened without Oda bothering to explain anything beyond the fact that it was unauthorized (obviously) but we never found out who did it or how they gained access to the control room, unless I missed that part. Little things like that just made the war arc seem more poorly executed.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who would have liked more detail. I can't say if he was rushing it, but Oda could have done it better. Oh hey, an army of pacifistas!! Now to completely ignore them for pretty much the rest of the arc and have everything be off-screen except for major characters or just a random panel of Marco being utterly useless.

Lafitte hypnotized the operator of the Gates of Justice to let any marine vessel through the gates.

You did miss that part. When the BB pirates show up Lafitte explains that he hypnotized the marines controlling the door to open the doors for any arriving ship, or something along those lines.
-
Ah thanks for the reminder. I probably forgot due to the fact that I give so little shit about Blackbeard that I tend to erase those scenes from my brain. That aside, I still stand by the belief that the war could have been better.

I really don't understand why you guys hate anime so much.
Manga is black & white fixed images, while anime is much more vivid with moving picure, voices, background sounds and music, etc. Also, I think in anime emotions are expressed in a much better way. And, what do you find in manga? Why do you think manga is better?
-
Because you can use your imagination. It is difficult for animators to live up to ones imagination.
-

Manga is
- Actually written by Oda
- Not weighed down by ridiculous padding
- Free of bloody neon coloring
- What actually happens in One Piece
- Filler-free
- Not something Toei uses for a quick buck
-
Manga/comic is an irreplaceable medium with a capacity none other can achieve. Stop talking like everyone should stop being mangaka and be anime director instead.
-
If you prefer the Anime I must break you.
-
To me it is also how boring the current arc has been. I care nothing of the fishmen. Even Arlong and his guys I didn't care for. Bring on the Shichibukai, Admirals, Gorosei, smileys, Supernovas, etc. I don't care to hear about new ass-of-the-week characters. We have enough good ones that are unexplained already.
How did you survive the time where about 200 chapters could pass before we saw one of those major player characters again. Except for a brief appearance of Doflamingo after the Skypiea arc, no Shichibukai actually appeared between Jaya and Thriller Bark.
Just be glad that the pacing is much faster now, and besides we've already seen a few of your desired characters after the timeskip - Hancock, Jinbe, Kuma and Sentoumaru if he counts. -
I haven't had a chance to watch the war arc. Should I just skip it since I already know what's going to happen? I like the manga experience because I can just listen to whatever music fits the mood and read what's going on, but I also miss out on the small details that are more noticeable in the anime.
-
I was a couple good shot in the anime war. like when marco clased with Kizaru and when luffy did a giant pistole on a giant. the whitebeard losing his face was cut out but still ok.it had some filler that made sense but drags in some parts that the manga seems to fly by.
-
Yeah I heard that Whitebeard's face was left intact. That's a bit disappointing and confusing to hear. It's not like they had to show his brain or anything like that.
-

well he did lose half a mustache, lmaooooo
I don't think the anime is that bad, there's certianly plenty of areas it could improve on but i'll still keep up with it. I def like the manga 100 times more.

It's not anime in general, but just the OP anime in particular wich is shitty compared to it's manga.
-
Well I like em both, manga and anime… actually I've watched all the anime like 3 times in my life and still love it almost all... ofc. the manga is still way better and have read it a "million" times but ultimately both good... with the anime I didn't get hooked on it till I had watched like a 100 episodes but I love it in whole today... long live One Piece :P

Kaku eating the Giraffe DF.
The fight begun with an awesome scene, and the anime even made that fight awesome.
The giraffe DF seemed to mess Kaku up more, and he wasn't as good anymore. Geppou, Soru, and other techniques weren't used due to his size. Kaku's Slicing wind technique was much stronger and faster than Lucci's. We saw this when he hopped on the ceiling and launched many slicing winds, without a ton of effort. -

-
I agree, the fight with Kaku got ruined for me too when it became a joke.
And no matter how hard you may try Oda, you can't make a giant square-nosed giraffe look intimidating.
-
Jyabura laughing was great though. His laugh is probably one of the most realistic in the anime. Hahhahaha
They had many great jokes in some of the other fights, so I didn't think it was necessary to turn the Kaku fight into one. Franky and Chopper both had some hilarious moments.
If the rest of that fight when like it did when Zoro met him sitting in a chair, I would have been so pleased. If you haven't, you should definitely watch the first parts of that fight in the anime. Completely amazing.
-
@CP9:

I mean, if you tend to like the anime, go ahead and watch it. It's much easier to get through the War arc now that it's done and you can watch it sort of in one sitting. Week to week made it seem really drawn out and disconnected (more than usual).
-
Well, since it's a matter of personal opinion, I hope I won't be flamed by this. ;)
The first thing I remember not being very fond of in the story was God Enel. But then I saw he was the first from many enemies I HATED because wouldn't put up a real fight. Even as logically acceptable as that is, I ended getting annoyed by those enemies who wouldn't face Luffy, but would use their abilities while running from him. I almost had the same feeling with Moria, for example.
Also, Enies Lobby was kind of disappointing for me. If I can put this in words, I believe that is because I liked Water 7 VERY much. Really, really, it's one of my favourite parts in the story up to now. But when the actual expected fights began, they weren't so… I don't know, epic, as Arlong, or Crocodile have been before them (again, IMO). I liked the idea of the exchanged fights, liked Nami vs Califa and Sanji vs Jabra, and Robin's "I want to live" scene. But Franky vs Fukuro was booooring, Chopper's only got interesting because of the Monster Point (and only by itself, not the fight), I got REALLY annoyed that Zoro had the most ridiculous opponent ever (not to mention that he finished the fight with one of the moves I hate the most for sheer lack of an acceptable explanation). And Lucci, meh... one of the less charismatic main enemies of the series up to this point. I only managed to like a liiiitle bit more when I saw the end of the fight animated (the Jet Gatling got AWESOME in the anime)...but while I was reading the manga, I was praying to Gan Fall that could finish at once. Bruno's fight was MUCH cooler that Lucci's. Again, and again, and again, in my humble opinion. ;)
Next! o/
-
Agreed! … um... with eerie that is :)
-
I didn't like the anime's portrayal of the war arc very much. More like I rarely liked anything they added that wasn't in the manga. They made Akainu look badass, made Whitebeard look somewhat badass, and then they just failed with Luffy.
-
I've voiced my displeasure with the anime version of the War arc in the anime pacing thread but I'll say it here. The War arc anime version is a total write off. well except for the last 4 episodes.
I wish that instead of the upcomming filler arcs they just take their time and completely redo the War Arc. This would please me and also allow the manga to get further ahead.
ah to dream the impossible dream. -
I am actually rewatching the Enies Lobby arc right now. I think it was even a bigger let down in the anime, because when you see opening 6, all the fight scenes look amazing!
I would love to have had Sanji fight a character who also uses mainly kicks, but Jyabura was enjoyable. Blueno and Jyabura were the best fights overall, and Zoro probably had the most enjoyable moment, which was the beginning of the fight.I think the Ashura does make little sense, but it is actually more possible than the mirages during the Nami fight. I also thought the mirages were so implausible in the nami fight, it became annoying. I think Ashura can be explained like this, Zoro goes into the position of his attack, Stands still for a few seconds, moves to the next position at a speed comparable to Soru, and then moves to the third position at the same speed. Due to the speed of getting to that position and then stopping the eye experiences POV (Persistence of Vision). The thing with this is that it would have visual affect, and might freak out the opponent and they might let down there guard, but it wouldn't make the attack any stronger. So mainly a neat visual, which serves close to no point in battle.
As much as I liked the Jyabura fight, I hate Sanji's ending line, "Spices are a gift from the devil." What is that even supposed to mean? The devil wants your food to taste good!?!?!!? Please explain
-
I refuse to believe people don't like Zoro v Kaku.

ah to dream the impossible dream.I'm hoping for a movie remake myself. The war arc is the only one I can think of that would make a genuine good movie remake.
-
Oda had a design that was great. A character that looked awesome, had amazing speed, agility, and balance. Almost all of that was gotten rid of during the Zoro fight.
-
@HiroVoid:

That would be cool, if they'd actually make it better than the anime, not like Arabasta Arc/Movie 8. I even thought, don't shoot me, War Arc could make a good live-action movie. But then they'd have to make it really good.
-
I loved Kaku. Square giraffes are awesome. Zoro vs. Kaku had a lot more gag jokes in it than Zoro's other fights, but I personally liked it. In the manga at any rate. I haven't finished Enies Lobby in the anime yet.
I fail to understand how Nami manipulating the weather makes "less sense" than Zoro growing two extra heads and four arms (even if it was an illusion). It's not like mirages are a new concept with Nami.
-

No. One Piece would not make a good live-action in any form. At all.

On one hand I believe this too. The characters would look ridiculous and lose all their.. everything. Then again, I think the action, the islands, the sea travels, could look incredibly epic if someone did a good job on special effects.

Zoro vs Kaku was ridiculous. And the most shallow, hollow of Zoro's fights.
A joke is cool and all, but it becomes awkward when it takes itself too seriously. What is the point of letting Zoro be all gallant and serious, and introduce a new deadly, mystically horrifying technique, in a supposedly serious, epic, dramatic atmosphere when slicing up a fucking square-nosed giant giraffe? Imagine fighting a huge pink flying pig when reading Shakespearean sonnets with the voice and expression of Abraham Lincoln at a funeral for victims of a holocaust. It's like 300. Utter ridiculous.
Fighting a square-nosed giraffe to save a girl's life is even more horrible of a joke than nose-bleeding being plot point. -
It never seemed like Kaku was seriously injured. That was one of the worst parts.
We saw them fight for a while, and he never gets a scratch, until the last couple attacks.
When he goes back to his normal form, he looks almost fine. -
As I said, my opinion. ^^'
Kaku started the Water 7 arc as being one of my favourite new characters - I actually wanted him becoming the Strawhats' shipwright (before realizing Franky was getting the place). But the giraffe thing not only changed the character drastically, but also insisted on ridiculizing him. And that got to my nerve. The only cool thing I think he did was slashing the tower. And then, the thing ended with Ashura, the cherry on top of the rotten sundae. Sadly, I really couldn't like it.Thank Gan Fall Oda made up for it a billion times with Ryuuma. THAT was a cool opponent, and a cool fight, worth of cool Zoro. :)
-
With the previous fights, you get the feeling the person isn't going to give up, and that they don't go from fine, to near death in moments.
Sanji vs Ghin,
Luffy vs Crocodile,
Luffy vs Blueno
Nami vs Kalifa
Lucci vs Luffy,in these fights we saw that they were near death and yet kept going.
I didn't care for Luffy vs Lucci though. -
BTW, everyone, even as if I didn't read everything, at least from this last part, is nice seeing such a controversial topic (which mainly revolves around personal opinion) being discussed in a civilized manner. ;)
-
Kaku was cool due to the whole running through the town, and his polite way of speech was great. We saw him in Water 7 as a very composed, mature, intelligent and powerful person. He wasn't annoyed by the mere words of Jyabura about the doriki until the Zoro fight. During the fight he became annoyingly proud, immature, and lost control of his emotions.
-
@Sonic:
I agree, the fight with Kaku got ruined for me too when it became a joke.

I'm pretty sure if you saw a giant giraffe-human hybrid coming at you with huge ass swords, you'd be running like hell.
