At this part my eyes got all 'itchy'? And moments later a friend asked why i had tears in my face.
That was a beautiful piece of words that i will save

Here's the deal.
Essentially unchanged from earlier today. Units 1 & 3 are 'stable' and the seawater cooling plan is proceeding. Note, these are the plants that suffered notable explosions which released hydrogen gas. Again, the double-layered pressure cont…ainment units are believed to be intact.
Unit 2 is believed to have suffered at least a partial exposure after an explosion was heard from inside. The rods were exposed to air for some time. Since then the water level has returned to half and is continuing to be adjusted. The government has stated somewhat ambiguously that Unit 2 is 'thought to be safe' for the time being. Regardless, the double-layered containment unit is believed to be intact which is positive.
Unit 4's status is unknown and they are working feverishly to figure out what's happening. The talk of fire in Unit 4 this morning is insignificant as it's ONLY superficial and opened up two holes in the roof. Two holes is nothing compared to the explosions the other day HOWEVER, Unit 4 is UNIQUE in that the rods were moved to a separate containment unit after the quake. It's still a double-layered unit, but it is not the standard unit. The issue is, the temperature of the water has been rising and they're not sure why.
For those in Japan, here's the part where you shouldn't panic, but BE AWARE of what's going on. The radiation levels they've been measuring suggest that a partial meltdown may have ocurred. For a period today, there were 'high' levels of radiation measured around the plant, enough to cause cancer. HOWEVER, the levels went down to levels comparable to what they've been the past few days, i.e. negligible. However, given the gases released, some of the material has traveled and will probably continue to do so. AT THIS POINT, outside the evacuation area the material HAS BEEN MEASURED and is not particularly dangerous.
It's a serious situation so please keep an eye on wind patterns and it'd be helpful to learn what the levels of radiation mean. Not meant to fear-monger, just to be aware and informed.
Actually, I've been walking around with gorilla and whale DNA on me at all times. We're not getting outta this without SOMEONE turning into Godzilla.
Yeah the center of it was under Steve's house. (not really)
It was on land in Shizuoka. 6. Not bad, not bad. Some hanging shit in my room wavered.
Most everyone over here is reporting to be ok after the 6.0 one, but things are still shaking and the sirens/speaker announcements are not helping anyone sleep. A lot of talk about the tokai and things to come, but that's just the nature of where we live.
Edit: town hall's ceiling just caved in. If it had been mid work day….ugh.
Greg, Steven, Tsuchirinhon –
Thanks for the updates (and especially for putting the reactor situation in plain language for us). Glad to hear that you're all safe in spite of the aftershocks, and please do your best to stay that way!
Awesome mutant powers would be adequate compensation for having gone through this hell. Looking forward to seeing y'all (1) fly, (2) shoot laser beams out of your eyes (3) lift buildings with your bare hands.
Nami, beautiful story. My he rest in peace.
about the radiation. No need to worry, if the winds start to blow towards Tokyo the material is said to be dispersed enough not to have effect on humans. (Well that is, if the level of radiation doesn't rise as well)
I am really hoping this entire situation gets sorted out soon, so Japan can start rebuilding instead of worrying about another crisis.

!
powerful photo, the look on her face goes right through me. =[
and your drawing is very good.
Oh wow! Im in a lecture and I cant help but get teary.
What a hero! The world needs more heros like this man! srsly.
Edit: Thanks a lot Greg, Steven and Tsuchirinhon for the updates!

If men of this earth were more like him, we would have never been in a recession (maybe depression) or in Effing war.
^ I agree! The variation in human characteristics is depressing :(
Recently, I have seen "Inside Job" and even fucking Harvard leaders were corrupted by the Bankers to spread false rumors and BS statements.
They only have a great titles but as persons they are nothing. I assure you, they won't take their money to heaven.
that photo and drawing are really sad , glad to see you draw it so well sea
Thanks for the photo and the drawing Sea, they're great.
After all I've read and seen I can only hope that Japan won't see any new disasters in a long time.
And lol, iodide tables were sold out in my area during the last few days. I live practically on the other side of the world from Japan. Seriously people…
Thanks for the update, Greg. I hope all of you don't have to deal with radioactive activity on top of everything else…
If the "high levels" only peaked for a short while, surely the chances of threatening exposure are decreased, right?

Wow, very well done Sea and thanks for the all the updates guys. This place is like a second-hand news source with more postive inspiration.

The photo is so saddening. Great job on the drawing, Sea. It came out perfectly.

Word. I prefer to visit this thread instead of any other "reliable" news page. The information presented here is much more straight and to the point. Other sites are more intent to put a political spin on what is essentially a major tragedy.
I don't watch any news about Japan on my tv.
I'm following this thread to get all the info I need, I do not need stuff that got mangled in the process and which I stil read about through most of the day. I can't think about this every second of the day or I'll go nuts.
I agree! I'm always refreshing this page to find out more news.

Oh, wow, Bro… if I weren't so tired right now, I'd probably cry. The expression, the action, the sadness... great job.
I just found out that my JAPN 2 teacher has family who lives near the Fukishima nuclear plant and about ten miles away from Sendai, so class has been cancelled this week. Hopefully her family is okay and that she has had the chance to contact them.

Oh god. Just… how unbelivably sad. I hope the radiation didn't hurt the daughter too badly.
Japan Crisis getting Worse
A devastating tsunami caused by Japans biggest earthquake since records began has reportedly killed thousands of people, with many thousands still unaccounted for.
Whole villages have been washed away and at least one town has been completely destroyed with 300,000 people estimated to have fled their homes.
Additionally, the government declared a state of emergency at five nuclear reactors as cooling systems failed.
Islamic Relief has launched an emergency appeal to support the victims of the tsunami. Islamic Relief local regional offices in China, Indonesia and Malaysia are being dispatched to Japan to work with local partners there.
We need your support please donate
$1,000 will provide a family of four with temporary shelterPlease call 1-877-370-4722 to help support the people of Japan today.
Please continue to support the work of Islamic Relief

Islamic Relief Canada also taking donations. I know from volunteering constantly that this is a very trustworthy organizations, where 100% goes to where it should.
Hi, I don't relly post on the bord that much but I saw this video and new I had to post it here:
cciUXpITsu0
I wanted to post it as many places as I can so it got as meny veiws as possibul, so he would donate more. So please, share this with your friends!! Also, I'm not sure if anyone else posted this already so if they did I'm sorry.
Very interesting.
The report to our prime minister by the goverment scientists came to a conclusion that Fukushima-1 looks like it has been abandoned by all workers for a few days now, thus everything's happening and lack of information due to nobody knowing what's going on since nobobdy's there.
Considering how they turned down our specialists from Chernobyl and how nobody was hurt during thouse massive explosions… Sounds very true to me. Wow.
I now have more respect for Nigahiga.
I am afraid you're half a day late with that.
(and nobody was there to put it out. it lead to another explosion and radioactive pollution. and 4th reactor wasn't even active, it was a place to keep worked out materials)
UPD: Oh, nope, you're right, it's on fire again.
Oops bbc news has it as its breaking news tonight i'll remove the post.
edit: ok!
No-no, you're right, looks like it's on fire again.
I hope they put it out before it becomes too serious.
It's already as serious as it can be. Meltdown already happened, without any doubts… :(

Meltdown or not, we know one thing sure: this won't be another Tchernobyl.
The situation at the central shoud start to stabilize in the following days.
A lot of this is just media sources scaremongering for viewing figures. The fact is the rods were put into place straight after the quake to stop the reaction. The only heat that'll generate is from the breaking down of material which can be cooled with sea water and vented slowly into the atmosphere without much harm to anyone given from reports over the past week. The only problems that might occur is either water not reaching the chamber to cool it causing it to overheat (which seems unlikely at this point) or by the technicians not being able to release the gas slowly which might risk an explosion which could disperse more radiative material.
If all goes well they'll be able to hold off long enough for them to cool down enough to stop posing such a high risk. Which might be about a week according to statements made today. Though I'd await a for the plant director/head operator as well as other nuclear power agencies to make a proper statement regarding the time schedule.

Can I ask for these statements?

These are all made by leading figures in this field made to the BBC and other leading new papers. I can try and find the links if you want or you could just browse their pages as they are pretty much littered with up to date news regarding the reactors.
Side note: the new fires regarding the spent fuel store is a different kettle of fish. I don't yet know the ramifications of this outcome, though not by lack of trying.

So they are a reliable source.
CTV news in Canada was saying our reactors are built to have a weeks worth or emergency energy incase of an emergency.
they were also talking, about how it took several decades for the general public in the US and Canada to get comfy with the idea of nuclear energy, and now this. Apparently, Obama and us here in Canada were all set to build some new reactors, and now they are on hold for the moment.
The news pisses me off, everything is so contradictory. I want straight talk now. What's the worst case? A nuclear catastrophe in all six plants and northwind, right? Could this contaminate whole Japan, because some guys posted shit like that in some forums and I'm rellay frightened about that as well…
The waiting for new informations makes me nuts... I pray for Japan.

Please just read this.

Sorry I can't get 'The Times' release that I read earlier today. You have to register to get it online, whereas I read mine out of today's paper. Still the guardian and many other mainstream sources have got tons of information.
(Just don't allow yourself to be sucked up by the scare tactics)
I've notice there has been a lot of elderly people in the tsunami affected areas, are these regions heavily populated by the elderly?
