i thought it was one of those wolves of level 5 of Impel Down
Looks remarkably similar. Good catch.

My guess is that Luffy brings (due to a hard battle) Fishmen Island on the surface.
wow, interesting idea. now i can't stop thinking about the implications of that: fishman island floating in the new world … huh.
for one thing, it'd make the red line a lot easier to pass, probably flooding the new world with lots of rookies.
for another, the open hatred of fishman/mermen and close proximity to mariejois and the "new" marine hq would probably cause problems.
for the end, it certainly seems like an epic way to start the second half of the grand line: whitebeard tried to sink the island of marineford to the bottom of the sea of the "old grand line." but strawhat is going to raise the island of the ryuugu kingdom to the surface of the "new grand line." HIS grand line :D
epic character designs. Neptune, hoe, steroids… I can already see the horribly memes and jokes.
It's a bit disappointing that Hodi Jones is pretty similar to Arlong, except stronger. Doesn't seem that original from what I've seen in this chapter. His goal to take over Fishman Island and raise a fishmen empire is quite predictable. I hope we get to see something more from him in terms of personality or motives.
Fuck me there's a lot of characters.
Could it be that Luffy is going to mistake the drugs for some kind of food and go insane for a few minutes and destroy FI. That could be the case.
So I am guessing we won't get to see Arlong in this arc.
Sort of disappointing. It is odd he was shooting up on the steroids though. What was the point? Couldn't just not use the steroids, and forget wearing the handcuffs.
Wouldn't he be just a strong then?Good chapter though.
His main goal was to intimidate them. The pirates didn't see him taking the pills but they saw him handcuffed.
Haha, the pirate crew looted that treasure (poor Pappug) :)
Well according to the random math I just did, A normal fish man just needs to take two steroid pills to be as strong as Rob Lucci. Oda has probably long for gotten about Douriki rating so comparing the two is probably useless but still it puts thing in perspective.
i bet hodi needs the drugs to fight these high leveled rookies, which is why im hoping hes more of a political leader and powerful people just started to follow him and why the swordsman from the last chapter who was'nt knocked was ranked below that other guy
and i don't think they know what really happened to arlong which is why they're making him out as a matyr

Lucci is "as strong as 400 humans"
Two pills will make a Fishman just 40 times stronger than a human.

Jones better be a lot more powerful that norman fishmen because Luffy should be able to one-shot Lucci by now.

No, that would put them at 400 douriki. They'd need 6 to become stronger than Lucci.
I like that for once its the bad guys that have to make a sacrifice to get more power, although it says a lot about their character that they just don't seem to care about shortening their lifespans in a similar way to Luffys gear second.
Still very curious about what part Caribou is going to have in this story.
@Robo:
I'm not claiming this is the case, but it's possible that the blueprints for both were made by the same person, but the ships themselves were constructed by separate people.
I don't see how this can be the case, seems like the samething for me, Enel demanded it and made someone draw a blueprint so he could give his ok and then they made it. I don't see the relation despite both been arcs. :\
Thoughts on the chapter: As cool as these new fishmen look (all of them), Hyouzou still takes the prize for more badass new design so far. And he is a merman.
Merman 1-fishman 0.
Also, I don't think it's an understatement to say that Arlong was probably second only to Jinbe. But, imagine Hodi was close to Arlong's strength. Now add a x4 on power. That's a pretty HIGH power level.
So yes, I see this guys base strength around Arlong level, not higher. But start stacking power bonusses (And you know Hodi is gonna end up swallowing a SHITLOAD of pills during his fight), and you got yourself a fucking monster.
Overall, great chapter, although it didn't advance the plot that much, it was nice to see new character desings.
Hodi Jones assault was glorious, btw. The way he grabbed that man by his torso with his teeth was brutal. And the Mast scene. . .Marvelous!
the only thing this arc and Enel´s arc have in common… is that they´re both arcs
Remember that Enel´s has a giant golden face, and can be only used with an enormous amount of electricity
Electricity under water is not a good idea :P
Wow, what a strong file. I had a very weird thought, should go to he wild speculation story, but what if Luffy accidentaly eats a steroid/drug whatever like this? He'll destroy the whole place in a second. But, again, that i just a very weird thought, don't mind me.
About the chatper: It was cool, I'll need time to get used to the new characters. My favourite is Neptun, I started laughing when I saw him. XD
Luffy accidentally consuming drugs and destroying Fishman Island on roid rage? Nah, even when Luffy was implanted with 100 shadows and grew insurmountably stronger he was in full control of himself and didn't kirk out destroying the entire island/ship.
and if big mum's "candies" are in fact, these steroids that she produces in fishman island to keep it hidden from the rest of humanity?

I thought Fishman Island built the factory and provided the candy for her so they're in charge of what's produced there but it's definitely a plausible theory. Her flag is on the front after all.
Finally Nami again <3 Yaaa~y
Hodi Jones really looks familiar to Arlong… I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be him. Don't shoot me for saying that. Thanks.
Zoro is still lost, huh?:ninja:
I read. This guy is not strong in comparison to Luffy and his crew
Really like the design for Hodi's crew. Looks like we'll meet the Mermaid princess next chapter. Big Mam's candy factory is most likely a front for Energy Steroids.
Seems like Luffy and Co have to deal with both Vander Dekken and Hodi before the arc will be completed. My guess is that at the climax of the arc, half the strawhat crew will deal with the NFP and half with Dekkens' crew.
Vut to be honst. Jones hasn't impressed me that much… But we will see. I think it was only a small glimpse of him. But I doubt he is tronger than Jinbei
For now I want to see the connection between him, Arlong and maybe even Jinbei.
And of course of Zeo and Hyozo. The next opponents of Sanji and Zoro. Those 2 are really awesome

Why is Hyouzou a merman in your eyes? LOL
Awesome chapter.
I love Neptune.
Because his bottom half is a fish's and his upper half is a human's. Also, he's called an octopus mermaid in his intro box.
I love how some of these fish guys in Hodi's group including him have such big guts. I expected everyone to be as ripped up as Arlong's main guys. Does that Hammer Head have have huge hammer as a weapon?
Thoughts in order of reading (sorry for the mess):
-Steroids look strong….Wonder how strong Luffy will be against them? After all a fishman without them could withstand his haki a chapter or so ago.
-Hodi Jones seems to have an Arlong tatoo on his arm AS WELL as the standard death-to-humans gig.
-After the first scene with Jones I just kept hearing that one line from Nemo "Fish are friends, not food."
-Complaint was obviously going to be Nami! Maybe she knows where the others are? No-one actually asked her, oddly enough. Oh and she has her ears pierced, Pretty
-Notice how Jones enters through the metal part of the ship? Jeez that also shows his power
-Did that guy just shoot a coating bubble out of his hand? Interesting....
Oh and I'm loving the "steroids are related to Big Mom's candy" theory you have going here
Why is Hyouzou a merman in your eyes?
Oda said so in a SBS. 20 something volume. Upper half human lower half fish(aquatic) than he is a merman. Upper half fish lower half man fishman. He even used octopus merman in the drawing he made to explain it. So Yeah.
Pretty entertaining chapter, I enjoyed all the designs of the new characters that were introduced (btw, was that whale the same whale we saw running from the kraken?), but I couldn't help but laugh at the end when the Captain of the New Fishman exposed his entire plan to his crewmates, I just found it so funny and immersion-breaker. BTW, I'm very curious on Oda's approach with drugs that make a person stronger but takes away part of the life. Gear Second VS Demoniac Drugs, anyone? And this makes the whole theory of "Big Mam's Candy Shop is actually a drug traffic business" a tiny bit more plausible

LOL missed that. I'm sorry. What freaks of nature this fishmen/mermaid are. Awesome.

You mean the shark? Megalo? He's the one we've seen a few chapters ago.
interesting chapter , very nice too see those new chars
this will get very interesting
BTW Seems like maybe Big mom is doing this pills in her "Candy" factory…
Hodi is probably gonna take so many pills in his fight with Luffy that he's gonna kick the bucket right before he gives the final blow.
Seams like the dude who said they use drugs to boost their strenght was right
Hodi is probably gonna take so many pills in his fight with Luffy that he's gonna kick the bucket right before he gives the final blow.
I don't think so. It would be incredibly anti-climactic, Luffy's not just going to luck out. Especially since this is their first real fight since the 2 year time skip where they were supposed to get stronger.
I'm glad Nami is so cool being around all these fish people. I'm sure she will shudder again when the name Arlong comes around, just glad she can still boss them around if she wants.
Well, I hope he just wanted to take those drugs for fun this time - since otherwise Hodi Jones (one of the big bads for the arc, most likely, though I DEFINITELY expect a Face-Heel turn from the Dragon Palace) just needed to go to 3-4 pills, or 8x-16x base strength, to beat up a ship that looked not especially dissimilar to one that ZORO CUT IN HALF WHILE WAKING UP several chapters ago.
Cool designs, but as "Ooh I'm badass" intros go, comparing it to "EL THOR!" or Leopard-Lucci perhaps shows it not doing so hot in comparison? Iono.
(Also I really enjoy that Starfish. Every arc needs some of that Buggy-esque energy (I keep expecting him to call his moves 'flashy') to avoid excess SUPER-SERIAL PLOT too soon.
and if big mum's "candies" are in fact, these steroids that she produces in fishman island to keep it hidden from the rest of humanity?
that's a good idea…
anyway i suppose next chapter we can discover the mermaid princess and jimbei message...
Hope to see soon zoro robin and franky
Hodi is probably gonna take so many pills in his fight with Luffy that he's gonna kick the bucket right before he gives the final blow.
That would be too similar to the end of the Moria fight imo.
Anyways, Hodi Jones doesn't seem to be THAT powerful. Of course we haven't seen him at full force yet and he was only taking out a ship, but was it really necessary to take those pills? I mean I guess he wanted to show the world how strong he was, but it seems a little excessive. But god damn we have a ton of characters this arc. almost reminds me of Skypiea in a sense. So who does everyone think is stronger? Van der Dekken or Hodi Jones? Obviously we have no idea about Van der Dekken, but I'm hoping either Hodi Jones turns out to be much more powerful than we initially see or Van der Dekken is a lot stronger. And presumably he will also have a crew. And like everyone else, I'm still wondering what will come of Shirley's prediction.
PS: anyone who still thinks Hodi Jones is Arlong is insane.
I like how Hodi Jones seems like a psycho.
O wow I did not even notice that Shark from the spoilers…
Awesome :) Now I understand what his role was.
So, now we know that Hodi Jones will be our main villain.
Pretty much anyway.
And also, i'm never gonna remember the names of his generals. :getlost:
Really great chapter. Hodi Jones and his gang look awesome.
Btw, did anyone notice the severed arm on the coating bubble after Jones owned the pirate ship?
This arc is really big. Many characters, things, places… I'm loving it.
About the drugs, they seems to be a generic power-up thing. Chopper could pretty much research them to make something without the side effect of losing lifespan.
PS: anyone who still thinks Hodi Jones is Arlong is insane.
It's obvious. Hodi Jones isn't just Arlong.
!
He's those 3. :ninja: (Michael because of the hair)
I love the new fishmen pirates designs.LOL. one of them looks like Zoidberg from futurama. Nice to see nami in her element. taking people for all their worth.lol
Hammond is carrying out arlongs will huh, well lets see where that'll put you.
