Finally some news worth posting about.
Governor of Punjab, Pakistan assassinated…

… fun
Poor fellow, I feel sorry even though I hated him…
did you saw reports on tv about people distributing sweets? even i got 7-8 sms congratulating me on his death
Yeah I did, it was kinda… sickening. Also, the same about sms. I honestly don't know what the dude said that made everyone go banana's...
hmmm… well support for aasia bibi, calling blasphemy law as black law and asking for it to be repealed.
Died for a good cause…
but in vain. The proposed changes will not pass now. There have been calls to boycott his funeral (by over 500 religious scholars)
and speaking of killer. people are comparing killer to this guy (sort of a hero). and a facebook fan page (in support of killer) reached 10k members within 3 hours before it was deleted by facebook

hay guys, racism is bad! so lets censor it's realistic portrayal in this book!!!
by watering it down and pretending certain parts dont exist well really beat it@
I bet Twain is rolling in his grave right now with enough speed to power a generator the size of New York City.
Wow. There just aren't words enough to describe that. Amazing.

And political correctness again misses the point.
@Cyan:
And political correctness again misses the point.
When did it ever have a point?
I love how some people are pointing out the edits as a good thing, as it will allow more hesitant school boards to put it on their 'approved classroom reading' lists. Because, y'know, once we take away one of the biggest freaking themes of the entire book, and the major point they should be learning, they can read it and be graded for what they learned!
Or hey, why stop at the racism? Violence is bad too, so let's edit any book with hitting/guns in it. And what about books that show women being demeaned? There goes 'To Kill A Mockingbird', 'Lord of the Flies', 'The Color Purple', a healthy chunk of Shakespeare's works, and a huge list that I'm forgetting/don't want to post because it would take FOREVER.
Just because a book is considered fiction doesn't mean there isn't truth in the setting, and it should be left as is. Parents who get upset about their kid reading the word where they can understand the context should listen to them talking in the schoolyard; I'm sure they'd hear stuff just as bad coming out of their mouths, possibly INCLUDING the very word they're nervous about.
While we're at it why not add sparkling vampires and teenage angst in to it. The people that propose this and are doing it are so retarded that I cannot fathom in the least how they continue to survive. Nineteen Eighty-Four is coming closer and closer to reality.
Ah book censorship. Every time something like this happens, I can't help but think of Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451.
In other news, Chick-fil-a is against homosexuality.
Not completely, these views follow the Pennsylvania Family Institute, and not necessarily Chik-fil-a.
I was reading through, understanding their reasons, but once I got to this line, I face-palmed.
"Marriage as defined as between a man and a woman has proven to be the best for the health, education and welfare of children."
I'd like to know where this was proven.
Then I head-desked when I got to this:
"They've suggested that discriminating against same-sex couples is perfectly acceptable, because same-sex couples weren't biologically meant to be together."
I…I....ksldf'aSFJ;nkdmf
EDIT:
It appears Chick-fil-a may be backing out. Via their twitter:
"For those seeing reports of a CFA sponsorship w/ the Penn Family Inst, we are looking into the issue and will provide a response ASAP."
I'm glad those morons and their overrated food have barely any presence up in the north-east past Philly and NO presence in CT at all.
Among the things I won't miss after leaving GA for good is having friends constantly insist I don't "get" the joys of awful fries and mediocre chicken and need to go have some.
Why are food chains even fucking getting political. I get that it's ran by religious nuts that don't open on Sundays, but jesus, shut up, you serve fast food no one gives one goddamn what you think about anything.

Dude, the world's gonna end.
Real talk.
No it won't. These are mild times.
ya I know, it's just really trippy.
First birds and now fish, what's next, fucking reindeers?
From what I read it's only happening in Arkansas.
Maybe Arkansas is ending, which frankly would change exactly nothing in the world.

Chik-fil-a? Never heard of it. There aren't any of those up here.
But still…..why would anyone acknowledge the stance a fast food chain has on a major issue?

It also happened in the Chesapeake Bay and off the coast of Brazil, north of Rio. Nothing as bad as Arkansas, but still.

Probably will effect their employment numbers. I think I remember something similar happening to Target.
Basically it will affect who will and won't want to work there.
That, and it's the news, you know?

I didn't either until I went to school down in Georgia and the damn things are everywhere and all my southern friends took forever to stop hyping it and realize I didn't give any fuck.
I guess Northeasterners wouldn't stand for things being closed all Sunday because our church attendance is pretty dismal next to the bible belt.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/6e/Church_or_synagogue_attendance_by_state_GFDL.svg
You wouldn't believe how many churches there…are in the South, they're everywhere and jammed into places you wouldn't expect them like next to strip malls and on the grounds of industrial zones (saw that in Virginia and still couldn't believe it). And they advertise on huge billboards and stuff, like they compete for people to come to them instead of just being the place for locals to go.
So go figure a fried chicken joint basing part of it's model around that cultural reality is having a tough time up here where people just lazily attend catholic masses for a few hours at wherever's closest.
JERK has a point about churches in Georgia. They're seriously everywhere. You'll walking into a Starbucks and one will have a leech hold on that in a small corner, complete with neon sign. Giving you access to mini bibles at the counter.
And on the way up highways, you have those odd billboards that are all: "GOD IS WATCHING YOU."

The sad fact about Chik Fil-A. I'm always in the mood for it on a Sunday. Pretty much never any other day.

Right next to all the billboards advertising "TOPLESS TOPLESS TOPLESS" (actual billboard seen on NC I-95)
The South is straight wacky.
JERK, I know the exact stretch of road you are talking about.
I'm not very proud to live in Georgia.
That wasn't in Georgia lol, I think it was in North Carolina. But I'm sure there's another in Georgia.
North Carolina also had the hilarity that was "South of the Border". A state long horrific encroachment of vaguely racist cartoon Mexican billboards before you see a shitty theme park based around sombreros right at the end of North Carolina's I-95.

haha, I'll have to look for this next time I ride down here.
You can't miss it if you're on I-95. There's like 1300 billboards advertising it, and it's literally right off on the side when you pass it.
My North Carolinian friend insists it's fun, but it looks hella dumb.
If I may add to this billboard discussion, here in Arkansas, I've seen a giant billboard that just says "JESUS" and a rather creepy one saying "Are you planning for your child's eternity?" which I believe has a crudely drawn stick-figure child in hell.
Also please let Arkansas end after I move out of it. u3u

Someone was arrested, and that's as far as updates go. I wonder what inspired this carnage?
Well it wasn't Mexico related most likely. A white guy with an assuredly un-hispanic name.
My age. My age.
The congress-woman is out of surgery and still alive. She has been moved to the IC-ward of the clinic. Five further patients are still undergoing operation though and in critical state. As far as the suspect goes they seem to believe he's an republican fanatic but from the looks of it they are just guessing now.
Also one child was killed during the assault.
I thought she was shot in the head though?
SHOT IN THE HEAD!
You can survive being shot in the head. Not likely but not impossible.
I hope she's not brain damaged.
I thought she was shot in the head though?
SHOT IN THE HEAD!
You would be surprised how many people failed to kill themselves with a gun to the head. So it's not unlikely that she would survive that when she was shot from a distance. There are certain areas a bullet can enter without the biological functions shutting down. Still there's no telling that even if she survives she won't be severely handicapped from the impact.
Edit: That's what I'm hoping too Zephos she only just started her political career and is still so young. It would be just cruel.
