@JERK:
YAMACHA
And thats why Yamcha is awesome. Cause he keeps trying in spite of that. He has to know his own track record after all. He knows he sucks. But he still gets up and goes to the fight to help.
Krillin was my favorite as the underdog until I fully learned to appreciate the Yamcha.
@Yuugi's:
Dragon Ball Kai was never promised to be filler-free, simply quicker.
Actually… that's exactly what it was promoted and advertised as originally. "True to the manga pacing" "no filler." I'm even allowing some concession to the different medium!
The Artificial Human arc actually has decent pacing. The staring is cut and the story moves quickly while still telling a story rather than jumping from plot point to plot point. You can't expect every panel from forty-five pages to fit into one episode. There is actual dialogue in the comic and it takes an actor time to perform those lines. Dragon Ball Kai is allowing the story to flow naturally now.
A fight page takes 15-20 seconds, a talk scene takes upwards of a minute, unless its a REALLY loaded talk scene like Bakuman or something. Dragonball had a ton of near silent fight scenes that lasted for hundreds of pages at a time with the occassional taunt in there.
It varies depending on the amount of dialogue, but ON AVERAGE one chapter equals about 7 minutes, 10 if theres a ton of talking. I already explained that. EVERY anime based off a manga starts with at least a 2:1 ratio, if not 3:1. They don't go to 1:1 until they've caught up with the manga. Thats why Luffy was able to defeat Arlong by around episode 40, instead of episode 97. And often when its a long concentrated fight that lasts for 4 manga chapters… they can turn that into a single episode without any loss of content at all. (Bleach manages to do like a 6:1 ratio on occassion without any content loss, but that's Bleach.)
Kai should have cut the episode count AT LEAST in half to a 2:1 ratio consistently. Some padding where they actually had a better scene or gave it a little room to breath and show some scenery or little bits to pace the episode till the end credits are fine. But they didn't even get that much. Like I said, the FIRST time Goku goes Super Saiyan deserves to be a longer moment than the manga gave it. But its one of the few cases worth arguing for, and even then you could say that if it were an instant sudden transformation like it is in the manga instead of a slow steady build, its a completely different feel and mood.
Not really. He got in a few good hits on Gokû but quickly lost the advantage. There is no indication he had as much skill as Gokû or Tenshinhan, either.
Goku said "he's the strongest guy I've ever met." And he proceeded to beat an enemy Goku couldn't. And this is 10 minutes after having fought Tienshinhan to a standstill. And Kami thought he was worth training as the Earth's last defense along with the others.
The one fight he did win was against his next foe, Cymbal…who he sliced up and ate.
Showing his skill.
After that he cut off a distracted Vegeta's tail, which isn't much of a feat.
Using stealth and trickery is legitimate. He SURVIVED the fight, and turned the tide of battle completely in one attack. Without that everyone would be dead.
Are you saying Yamcha, Chouzu and Tien added more to that battle? Even Piccollo didn't do as much damage as Yajirobe did, but he actively kept Gohan alive and trained him, so that's significant.
Or are you saying that Goku running and hiding from the giant monkey and trying to make a spirit bomb in secret without him noticing was any different? Or when Krillin tried to sneak in a kienzan… to cut off Vegeta's tail? Hiding and making a surprise attack is a legit strategy against overwhelming force. Why is it okay for Krillin to do it and fail, but not okay for Yajirobe to succeed just a moment later? Its SIGNIFICANT that of all the fighters, Yajirobe was the one able to best mask his presence, which is among his abilities and talents that he was chosen for in the first place.
You just don't like Yajirobe because he's fat.
