I came in while Stewie was sawing off a retarted elf's arm to drive the reigndeer. Needless to say I was kind of disgusted.
I fixed that one for you. Now it shouldn't be that disturbing anymore! :)

Yes, because that alone makes better. :getlost:
This is retarted.
I've been watching American Dad more often and I gotta say, it's a really good show. I hope I'm not alone in that, I really like it.

Definitely the best of the McFarlane shows. However, it's still kinda hit-or-miss for me.
I don't look forward to watching any of the Sunday cartoons, but I like whenever I get the chance to watch American Dad. Sometimes I even wonder if the show is even written by the same people that does FG.

I've heard a lot about that show. Should I start watching just from episode 1?
@ Hawkolf: You can, it does start off a little slow and Family Guy-ish since this show was meant as its replacement before FG got back in the airwaves. But after awhile it starts to become it own thing. Up to you if it worth coming back too though.
For me though, AD is heck of a lot better then FG: theres plot, hardly any pointless jokes and the characters are much more entertaining. Unlike Peter, Stan usually just trying to do whats he thinks is right. Even if it overblown or overkill but thats what makes it funny. I'll also go on record that this show has the best Christmas episodes in town.
Not to say there isn't a few annoyences though, they kinda dump Klaus after the second season which sucks, he an alright character. And Roger kinda Peter-lite dressed in drag who just does stupid things for his own whims. That not to say most of his stuff isn't funny just really "WTF man!".
Okay, so I saw the Family Guy Star wars last night, and that was pretty epis. Its their last time out, so they made it like, a full hour long instead of the usual half hour, based the entire thing around a parody of another movie, had an ongoing story and didn't rely on old worn out jokes from characters in the show and instead went for humor from Star Wars itself. The thing with the long necked jedi was just brilliant. And Greg the stormtrooper, awesome.
Oh. That was Robot Chicken?
Well, I guess that explains it.

Uh, yeah, what movie was that?
But yeah, Star Wars Robot Chicken was awesome.
Oh, and on the subject of American Dad, I recommend checking out the episode where they spoof James Bond.
Yeah, Robot Chicken is awesome, especially their Star Wars specials. The Family Guy Star War specials are pretty much the quality of any FG episode, so not much at all. Only part of any of them I liked was the part where they were trying to get a couch through a door, cause of just how true it rang.
Uh, yeah, what movie was that?
Sunset Boulevard. Or at least the opening and general structure was, its parodied allll the time. Lead character lying face down in the water, dying, as his narration begins and he starts going on about "how did I end up here?"
Very very very loosley based, little to do with it after the opening, but the format totally came out of it.
…Or maybe the format came from Crash, the 2004 Best Picture Osacar winner, if the actual people that made the show are to be believed.
In any event, it had a through line that carried over the course of the whole thing, and it felt like the structure came from something, and that was fun. Especially the focus on the minor characters.

Ah, well no wonder. I haven't seen that movie yet. I must do so someday.

Fixed that for you.
Anyway, Crash I did see, but eh, I don't know about SWRB having the same format as it.
@seth:
Seth Green: In the second one we tested the storytelling format and saw what it would look like if we followed a couple of key characters and see who they progress through a whole episode going around all different things in cannon. Matt had this idea to tell the entire story of Star Wars from before the Prequels to after Jedi through a couple of key characters. He kept saying he wanted to do it like Crash.. That's why it's going to blow people away. It's an hour-long special that tells the entire tale of Star Wars from perspectives you might not have seen before.

Actually recently I've been feeling exactly the same. I like the characters in Family Guy more in general, but I hate Peter, and find Stan much more funny, and likeable.
Wasn't there a bumper that said that Wicked had a major influence on RCSW3? That was what prompted them to make it all about Palpatine and his impression of events in particular.
One of my favorite gags was them cutting Palpy off midspeech with a commercial only to come back to him ranting about being cut off. The Yarael Poof business was hilarious too if only because the movies never did explain what happened to him between Episodes I and II.

I think unlike family guy it's gotten better over a period of time. Though when it first started it was seen as out of it's league because stan is nowhere as near as funny as peter. Also roger can't place a finger on stewie. Though when you take the show for everything it has to offer I think it's really great also.
I wasn't impressed at all by American Dad when it first came out, but I've gained a new respect for it over the past few months. Peter and Lois are downright terrible human beings anymore while Stan and Francine have largely avoided that.
Roger is annoying, but he's supposed to be and gets his comeuppance on a fairly regular basis. Well, at least compared to the Family Guy cast, who get away with anything up to and including murder on a regular basis.

When your characters just killed a family for no real reason and you can't even figure out if they're in-character or not
I think you should re-examine your TV show because you've de-established their universe so bad it's not even funny.
do you need a reason for murder i sure as hell don't
…I have no response for that.
doc hammer on family guy
One of the things that does stand out about the show is that it doesn’t seem that cultural references are thrown in with any sort of disingenuousness and that it happens in a very organic way.
Doc Hammer: That’s because we’re not working them in, we’re just throwing in these little… wubbies, these things that feel good to us. There are a lot of ways for jokes to pay off, and I hate to get mathy on this crap, but you can use these references the way you and your friends use these references. I made a mention of “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong” by... who were they? Pocket Full of Kryptonite? Two Princes? Spin Doctors. I made a Spin Doctors reference. Someone asked me if I liked the Spin Doctors, that really doesn’t matter. It says a lot, it puts people in the place. If someone brings up that song, “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong”, you’re getting the power of their personal nostalgia, you’re getting a sense of their love for the song. To put out a reference that we all understand is really kind of a powerful thing to do. **Which is why I hate stuff like Family Guy, it will just toss this crap out at you in this pandering, make you feel good way. ‘I’m smart too, I know who Gary Coleman is,’ and that’s kind of the way Family Guy uses it. They just toss out this name so everybody can immediately feel the power of, one, knowing the reference, and two what that reference implies. But it’s not worked into the plot and it has no potential meaning, it’s just this ugly list; and if you didn’t get it the first time shows like Family Guy will actually show you how the reference is used in a flashback, that has no value, of the time Peter and Gary Coleman got in a fistfight.
It does try a little too hard to smack you in the face with it. Too much of a
wink and a nod.DH: And it works, the show is very successful. This is an effective comedy device, clearly. I find it to be slightly ugly.**
It’s a little heavy handed.DH: And heavy handed things work, they work beautifully.
haha man I cringe when family guy is on the TV. i just find it absolutely repulsive and such a huge waste of time for those who stop to watch it.
…I have no response for that.
Of course he doesn't need a reason for murder. He's Dr. Robotnik.
Heh well said Doc.
ha ha. i think roger is hilarious. i love that episode when they were on a plane, and he's dressed up as a little girl. XD
All of the Seth Mcfarlane shows follow a simplistic and obvious format. The only thing that makes it so popular is how the show shoves random stuff together to make us laugh for 1 second. It's like having a compilation of the worst things done to you in your life. Except this time, instead of you, its the Griffins and their Dog who's brain is bigger than Peter's balls
If a show brings a smile to my face, then to me, it's good.
Fuck all your long paragraphs of trying to convince people not to watch it. Yes, currently the show isn't as good as it used to be - the jokes are rather dumb most of the time now, the episodes' plot is downright stupid sometimes, but I don't care. Just… try to forget reality for a moment.
And if that doesn't cut it out for you, simply stop watching the show and move to something more fitting to your taste.

Then just change the channel.

I'm sure this sounded like a good statement in your head.
Then just change the channel.
Generally speaking, when people cringe at something on television, they do just that.
The option to switch channels doesn't make the show itself any less terrible or detrimental to animation in general.
@Holy:
I'm sure this sounded like a good statement in your head.
At least it's less sad than my reason for watching it (before I lost access to television). I know from personal experience what shows will and will not drain my brain cells while watching them.
Family Guy was not one of those shows.
It's scary but there are worse things out there.
You ever had a roommate who watched VH1/MTV/what the hell ever channel's reality shows on full volume? It made me want to murder him.
I don't know who that New York lady is, but she must be sterilized.
Also, I seriously thought I was the only one who thought that American Dad's newer episodes were better than the old.
I will admit this though: one of my last memories of Family Guy wasn't a good one.

Is it necessary to justify everything you like?
Technically, it isn't. If you like it, then you like it. Even if it has horrible writing and etc., it doesn't matter if it's still something you enjoy since that should be what matters.
@HiroVoid:

That's what I'm saying. And besides, it isn't terrible 100% of the time, the show still has its moments. Also, some jokes appeal to certain people and to others they don't, so it's a matter of opinion.
edit: Oh yeah, speaking of opinions, people should stop enforcing theirs. What's with that thread title, for example?
We missed you, MiniLuffy.
The musical numbers can be good sometimes, but that's about it.
But if the jokes are supposed to appeal to a certain audience, what are the incest, rape, and pedophilia jokes for? Or the gross violence. I love black comedy, but watching a 2 minute gag where Peter skins a small cat to death is just way too far and awful.
it's white comedy dummy they shipped the only black dude away to his own awful show

eh if white ppl want to claim family guy they can have it. Only reason I dont like Cleveland show is because the nerdy ass son and the weak ass daughter. They should have made the show more ghetto. I for the life of me haven't seen these nerdy black kids they keep showing us on tv except for in g.o.o.d music. The baby is the only real one in the series and the only funny one.

Black people are only black people if they are uneducated and live in poverty.
Your fake complaint is the least of Cleveland Shows myriad of awful problems.
man who is this trick
i don't need no mo friends all they do is try to peel me away from my hos
That was until I watched a recent episode of cevland show and Cleveland tricked the hell out of donna and made her think that house chores made her special. I laughed my ass off. How can anyone hate that show!? Plus Donna has a phat ass.
I may actually make a set for them… let me watch more episodes first XD.

Sorry, thats the old thread title that was in place from like a year ago. I'll fix it.

Face it media has always emasculated black men. Wtf am I reading? Whats the daughter… a slut. A spoiled one at that. Though the more I watch it I like Cleveland, Donna and rollo. Think about it though everytime the throw a black person on tv he's a nerd.

I know Family Guy sucks as a show, but after spending a year listening to this through my bedroom walls, there's no way it's the worst thing on television.
