I know you have some replies already but i thought i would give you my answer to this.

1. Although i do not watch the anime alot, i read the manga all the time, all chapters, and i rate it 10/10 and would go higher if i could. Everything about it is awesome, the storyline, the intense battles, the charactors, everything.

2. Not really sure, dont watch the anime much, as i have like no access to it.

3. Not sure what you mean by this lol

4. The charactors is one of the best things about One Piece, theyre better than all the battles put together.

5. The villains are epic as well, they make the series so intense and sometimes emotional.

6. Dont watch the show much

7. There are 10 movies released so far, only 1 of which is released in english, which is the 8th movie: The Desert Princess and the Pirates.

8. Dont watch the anime, and i cant choose which is my favourate arc, too hard i love them all.

9. and finally, i havent watched any of those animes, but i can almost guarentee One Piece is better, it is almost even becoming superior to Dragonball in Japan

In all fairness he said starting to buy the DVD's implying he is in the beginning of the process. Which could logically be equated to "thinking about buying". Also remember, not everyone speaks perfect English.

The begining of the series ,not as much ,but from episode 300 onwards it definitely is better .

Not to say the art in the anime is bad , but it's atention to detail is , naturaly , lacking compared to the source material .

I have to say that GumGum is right. I read through Manga Share or Manga stream, it would be more enjoyable if I didn't have to be at a computer.

Once you know what the colors are for all the characters, then the black and white shouldn't bother you.

I started out with watching the Anime, too, and that worked out great. I dont think there is anything wrong with watching it first to see if you even like the series. It´s probably easier to get into the Anime, if youre not much of a manga person.

I mean, I watched the first 140 episodes before I even read the first chapter. of course, the manga is much better in many aspects, better drawn, more details, no annoying filler etc. and I would definately recommand reading it sooner or later, but for now, I think you`re totally fine just watching the first few Funimation sets.

I have to agree with the anime decreasing in entertainment value after the Water 7 arc. Water 7 was an amazing arc. I didn't like the episodes after the Strawhat separation. Impel Down, Amazon Lily, and the War. I think I enjoy the anime more than the manga at times. I prefer sitting down and watching One Piece.

The anime has some rare great moments but overall it is a really cheap and mediocre production. The manga is where it's at so if you don't want to try it out you're not worthy of One Piece anyway.

Some quick advice when getting into this show. I knew about OP for about a year before someone finally managed to convince me to watch it and there were some things that nearly turned me off it. don't watch any of the movies, some people will say otherwise I suppose, but I thought they were pretty much universally terrible (barring movie 10). Don't watch any of the filler episodes (except possibly - damn I can't remember the name of it - G something) as they are also pretty much crap compared to the cannon stuff. Also there are some rather terrible inconsistencies if you watch the filler crap.

Also if you are coming in from Berserk and Cowboy Bebop don't expect OP to be anything like them

well in actual fact I never managed to get more than two episodes into Bebop (there was no story evident by then and I can't stand watching something without a story)

Edit: also one more thing, at least try to read a bit of the manga. Just the first chapter which starts out differently from the anime and is, in my opinion, far better.

Bebop was made to look americanized in several ways I believe. One of them was episodes being stand-alone with some events and info that would later tie in for the end. So the story is not handled like your typical anime.
But I must say, I only caught some random episodes on tv and haven't really watched it from start to finish so I'm not 100% sure on this one.

I have been reading all of the latest chapters. I actually have missed the last couple episodes because I dislike the war and the drawn out moments.
I wonder if you have noticed that I have been commenting on all of the new chapters in the manga board. I have Manga share bookmarked on my browser.

If I was to compare the current episodes (Last 20 or so) to the last couple of manga chapters, it would be no contest. Manga would win hands down. The dark and dreary oceanic scenes are amazing.

Anyway, the manga is far superior to the anime and you would save yourself a great deal of money, too. And what's the matter with not reading manga? Use your imagination like basically everyone who reads a book.

But I'm drifting away from the main point:
One Piece is in my opnion one of the essential Shounen one should read if someone is really interested in manga/anime. To me it's the Berserk for Shounen fans, and that for the following reasons:
Oda is probably one of the best mangakas of all time when it comes down to world-building and exploring, the rich, vivid and diverse world the protagonist travel in is something that only a few other mangas can compare to. Each arc adds another layer to the world and before you know it you feel the world, get a real grasp of the cultural, political and other problems in it, but most importantly: You explore this vast, adventurous world with our lovely protagonists.

And these protagonists are also well characterized, each having a believable backstory, unique traits and a rather unclicheed character development. No shitty monologues where the character explains his growth, Oda shows us development through details such as calling your crew members by different names, etc. And the same goes for EVERY CHARACTER in this manga, Oda never forgets a person. Every side character and each villian's got a story and believable motifs behind their actions, and nearly all of them develop during their respective arcs and during the meta plot (I just say Arlong). This also ties with the plot, remember every detail, because it WILL be important later on. No exceptions.

Also, the anime adaption is one of the better Shounen adaptions - a little rarity if you ask me: The music features a lot of classical references and most of the openings and endings succeed in capturing the adventure spirit OP carries within it's story. And while I'm not a big fan of the new animation style that dominates recent One Piece episodes, I have to pay respects to the very good voice actors and the emotional impact these scenes can carry over to their audience. I also haven't watched any movie except the the tenth and most recent one, called Strong World, and found it to be very good.

Personally i don't have any favourite episodes, but I much prefer the transition chapters of One Piece where you can see all the little plots weave together, forming new plot hooks and strings while showing of all the characters and their interactions. Yet, most episodes at the end of an arc or saga are sure to be very emotional and make for a great experience. All in all i would rate One Piece 10/10 for a Shounen and 09/10 after factoring in other genres/demographics.

P.S.: Read the goddamn manga. Scans are on mangatraders, and only volume 11-25 are of bad quality. And fortunately, this is the part where the OP anime was at it's best IMO.

Double Fix'd.

Enies Lobby was really well designed. The anime did a good job of making the place look and feel like a real location, plus it followed Oda's design pretty much to a T.
Thriller Bark was also good. The manga, being Black and White, didn't get the dark atmosphere across as well I thought with all the white you saw. The colors in the anime really helped bring that to life.

Alabasta and Skypiea are honorable mentions.

I just got done purchasing the first 2 volumes of funimation's One Piece and one of the 3rd season 2nd voyage. So I have a total of 3 anime parts to the show. I gotta get way more to catch up lol! That would be true, but One Piece, among many manga-anime series out there, came out in manga form before the anime form. People, like myself, prefer the original source of it, straight from the author.

An anime adaption isn't viewed highly if it has bad animation/art. Not to mention, it can be inaccurate and/or just not as appealing to view than its manga counterpart.

Also, it takes 20-30 minutes to watch an episode, but much less time to read a chapter.

Again, the manga came first, and it creates the material for the anime to use. If the anime catches up to the manga, it has to stop because there's no new material to use. Fillers allow it to continue and at the same time, let the manga advance so far off that when the anime resumes canon content, it won't pass the manga.

Okay, deep breath here…

Alright. Things the manga has that the anime doesn't:

• No fillers
• No padding
• No shots of Buggy and Mr. 3 taking a piss
• Fights generally work better in the manga
• Enies Lobby isn't as soul-crushingly drawn out
• Less censorship (Although excessive censoring doesn't come up much in the anime. Granted, in like four weeks that has a high chance of changing)
• No 'Kaze wo Sageshite'
• No HHGGGGKGKGKGKHGHHGKGK

There are fillers in the anime because the anime is non-canon. As in, what happens in the anime has no bearing on the plot of the manga (The manga being the only thing that matters).

Fillers happen when the studio jumps the gun and runs through too many chapters of the manga, eventually overtaking it. Fillers are then made to pad out for time until the manga gets some more chapters out. It's why the anime went to a "one chapter = one episode" format around the end of Skypeia (Ironically, this format just leads to padding, which at times is even worse than filler).

Generally, you have a better experience reading the manga.

There are many filler arcs and you should go to the wikia to find out exactly which ones are filler. The movies are all completely filler so you should just watch the anime episodes of Alabasta instead of using movie 8 as a substitute.

No. One Piece is better then those show. Naruto isn't that great because it's filler will kill you. Bleach has many mess up fillers that will annoy you at times. DBZ is good for action but way lacking in plot. One Piece blows those shows out of the water and fries it on it's George Foremen Grill. 2.) Early Alabasta Arc

3.) Marineford Arc (I kinda like it but I also kinda hate it, because the animation can be phenomenal at certain moments, but can also seem really "fluidless" and dull during most other moments; also, the shading and basic art design of the setting and the characters feels somewhat poor for whatever reason, but that's probably just me…this arc still has proven to have supplied numerous animation sequences that have blown me away far more than any other arc has been able to do, though, that's for sure...)

4.) Skypiea Arc

I hate Naruto but Shipuuden has much, much higher production values than One Piece. I think the same goes for Bleach but I haven't watched that show in years. DBZ just sucks, it has mediocre animation and horrible pacing.

I love both Bleach and One Piece so its hard for me to say between those shows. Its way better than Naruto though, you see some of the episodes they have on now? Nothing but flashback fillers till April and we don't even know if they'll stop than. Ask for Dragon Ball Z, it has better animation than that show, course it has some good action, mainly in the Cell games but other than that I have to say the action is better in this show.
