I was wondering does anyone really know why the sixth Opening to the One Piece anime, Brand New World sung by D-51 was only used for 14 episodes while other Openings like Crazy Rainbow was used for 41 episodes?
I loved Brand New World, it is one of my favorite anime opening songs. So why did it get the short change, did Toei have problems with D-51? was the song not popular enough in Japan? were contracted to use Crazy Raindow for more episodes and Brand New World for only 14?

Oops, that's what I meant, just had a brain fart.
Yeah that's what I was thinking.. My first thoughts were actually "what if that's the Poneglyph about Pluton!?" but seeing how far they've come there's no way they'd go all the way back to Alabasta now so it seems pretty impossible for that to be true, so the only other conclusion I could come up with is that it was pointless filler.

It was the 5th opening. I really liked the way the video was put together.
For video I think this is the best opening. The water effects were really nice.If the water looks like this in the Bubble Coated ship scene when the anime catches up I would be so happy.

The G-8 arc was great. I really recommend watching it, and then listening to Usopp No hanamichi. The lyrics to that song, the content in the G-8 arc really make what happens with Merry more sad.

I keep hearing about HD One Piece. So are One Piece DVDs not as good as a fansub? The episodes of Robin's Past was just posted on here and they say they are HD.

It wasn't in question if I should purchase the DVDs, I just wanted to know what came with them.
The dubs are pretty good, but I wish the Sanji character was as good as the Japanese one.
Sanji being one of my favorite characters makes that a big factor in what version I watch.
My avatar is a work in progress of changing Sanji's Jolly Roger.Only reason I was asking was because I have many pirated episodes of OP on my PS3. When I get the DVDs I will also keep my digital versions.
I was worried because someone told me their were some issues with the OP dvds. Person also said that it YLOD on the PS3 3 times. I found that very odd but if the PS3 wasn't well taken care of and the system's laser had a hard time reading a disc it could overheat the system.
So, do the One Piece DVDs support this 5.1 system?

I would have to say Drum was the most important. We heard of the initial D. in Gol. D Roger. We saw the government discussing Dragon many years back, and Chopper joined.But what do you think the most important arc is so far.

I'd say 9. Excellent plot, best character development I've seen in a long running shonen, great humor, versatile yet fitting characters… etc

In the beginning you will feel its childish and unnatural especially compared to more realistic animes out there. But it kinda grows on you as you go along and then you really get why the author choose this particular style. There are more then 700 NAMED characters in the series and each on having unique design and personality... Plus there are some of the most breath taking backgrounds that you would EVER see on TV.

As stated above, but let me tell you, its my personal opinion, so probably biased, that in terms of Character development and character interactions, nothing beats One Piece.

I wont say unique, but a better word would be diverse. One piece villains aren't just evil for the hell of it, there is actually depth in each and everyone of them, and there is a time you feel, maybe what the did is justified, not right, just... not completely evil.

I personally love a good many OST, but I know people who think in the start its average, then we get above average music around 30 episodes in... after that it varies.

I am not American so I don't know about which are released in America but actually 10 movies have been released, the last of which is written by the original author of the manga.

If you have not purchased any DVDs and are shy of any commitments I do want to point out that the first 176 episodes of the series are streaming for free on Funimation's website
www.onepieceofficial.comI will give you some guidelines to get you started. It's honestly very hard to rate One Piece. Stuff like Cowboy Bebop are aimed at a very different demographic with a different scope in mind. One Piece tells a story.
The animation style is overall very different from most typical anime and goes against the grain that anime has to be animated with eye catching detailed animation. That's not to say that One Piece is badly animated, far from it, but it does things in a more stylistic way where it focuses more on the set up and execution of scenes then "ohhhh, look pretty detailed animation".The main draw of the series is both the characters and the story. One Piece does an amazing job of world building which makes the backbone of the story. As the series continues the characterization continues to deepen and the world expands. The main theme of series being "Adventure" and I think that's what keeps the story fresh. A lot of animes tend to stay in one or two particular settings but within the series we have the characters traveling from everywhere to war-torn countries, winter islands, into the sky, and under the sea. Along the way the main character's "pirate crew" grows and gets fleshed out. The musical score matches the epic feel of the series and there was never any point I felt underwhelmed or disappointed by the soundtrack.
The characters are also very unique and as the series progresses the cast grows to behemoth sizes and gets more and more…odd.
There are 10 Movies and none of them are really necessary to keeping up with the series. Movie 8 is the only one that has been released in the states.
In the end, this is all I can really tell you the rest is up to you.

If you choose the anime, I give it a 8.5 out of 10. The anime is really awesome at some times and gives some great feedback when you read the chapter in the manga. And in the anime you have the voices and music to get your more excited about alot of things in the story. The bad thing is when you have a long-running series its about to happen that your going to see some times some bad animation. But yeah the same counts for other shonen series like Naruto, DB, Bleach.
But overall the manga is just better because the pacing can be faster and sometimes you can see some amazing artwork espcially in the latest chapters of One Piece. And the manga has no fillers. Not that the filler is bad (Its 100 times better than Naruto and Bleach). But most of the time you want to keep going with the main story.

Just like I said at the first question. Most of the time show looks to decent to good. Then you have one or two scenes where the animation is bad. And then you have have some scenes that looks great. The art is something you gotta get used to when start reading this series. Also the anime started in 1999. Most of the movies have there own story except for Movie 8 and Movie 9. By the way there are 10 One Piece movies with movie eleven comes this year or the next (Sorry I forget the date). The older movies one to 7 are never released in america because the show was never became populair because of 4kids. Funimation did restore One Piece to the way people that wanted to see the uncut version. But its still a never ending story with new people that are exposed to the new version of Funimation. But still saying at the beginning this show is retarded. Because of various reasons. But mostly is based on the 4kids version.
If One Piece would have a proper edit version from 4kids and a good line of voice actors and not skipping arcs. Then One Piece would be number one anime in America and would even beat Naruto. But 4kids fucked it up real bad.
If you want to get in to One Piece but need something with a good story. Watch movie 6. Its a great movie and sets a nice overall tone.

First of all Berserk and Cowboy Bebop are adult series (Seinen) One Piece is a shonen show for middle school boys and older. The themes of Berserk and Cowboy Bebop are completly different then One Piece. Because of the audience is just different. But One Piece is a show in Japan that is liked by Kids and by Adults. It just appeals for everybody.Well I said enough just watch the show at your own pace. And enjoy the show I would say.

to be honest, when you try to watch the older episodes.. you will surely felt that it's old and childish.. but as you progress through the series, you will see the difference or an upgrade in animation.

as for a US release, One Piece Movie 8 so far hit United States.. there are 10 Movies in Japan (Movies 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, & 10) which was released especially the newest one (movie 10) that was released last year 2009.

hard question to answer because most of the episodes in one piece are good, impressive and memorable. this question can be answered if you watch the anime itself.
there are lots of scenes that will make you laugh and there are times that it will make you cry, that's One Piece for you!

The only thing that makes it a perfect ten is some small things. You can love One Piece after watching three episodes of it or you will find it okay but then LOVE it once you get to around episode 30. That reason is one of the main why I would rate One Piece a nine. Still the series is damn good.**

Personally I never had a problem with the art and animation of the show. Some people would think it is strange for anime but I find it just perfect. In reality the art helps set the tone of the type of battles that you will see in the show. This can clearly be seen in the early fights.

This show is all about character development. Arc after arc the characters grow a little or for some a lot. It isn't like some shows where a character is introduce and joins but then just stay static. Each member of the main cast keeps growing and you learn more about them as the series moves on. One of the things that One Piece is famous for is how developed the characters are.**

Very good! There may be a ton of characters but you will end up loving almost all of them. Each character has their own thing that you will find to love and it is hard to hate them unless they are a villain. Still even then you will love to hate them.

Very unique. No two villains are similar to the others and each one of them have something special about them. You may have one that wants to dominate a country while another is just a plain psycho. These villains are nothing to shake a stick at. As said before, you will love to hate them and Oda (manga artist) does an excellent job to where you can really hate some with a passion but also love them for being so damn good at being bad.

Awesome. The music is one of the best things about the show. Most of the time they are what helps makes the show epic due to how well they can set the mood. A lot of instrumental pieces and some of their electronic stuff is really cool.

If you are going to be watching One Piece via Funimation's DVDs then that could actually be the best option to do. That way you don't have to watch over 50 episodes at a time and have good moderation.

So large but made me feel like I could recognize the whole island if I was walking it.
Syrup village: simple but genius. I like the little quaint village feel. Plus the way everyone is drawn was much better than it is now and still it was closer to the manga than now.
Water 7. Simply didn't fuck the manga up. All the emotion that was in the manga was brought to life in the animation.
I think most of eastblue was well animated. Oh but my favorite animation is luffy vs crocodile.

Luffy vs Crocodile was awesome. It sort of had a cowboy bepop feel to it the way Luffy was hitting him without using the DF. I really liked Usopp's village also. It will be cool to try and remake that in a game. If anyone has some maps of different OP locations, that would be awesome.

Here's an idea. Why don't you read the manga first? No fillers, no dragged out scenes, and it's the original content. Plus you can catch up to date faster.

Some quick advice when getting into this show. I knew about OP for about a year before someone finally managed to convince me to watch it and there were some things that nearly turned me off it. don't watch any of the movies, some people will say otherwise I suppose, but I thought they were pretty much universally terrible (barring movie 10). Don't watch any of the filler episodes (except possibly - damn I can't remember the name of it - G something) as they are also pretty much crap compared to the cannon stuff. Also there are some rather terrible inconsistencies if you watch the filler crap.
Also if you are coming in from Berserk and Cowboy Bebop don't expect OP to be anything like them
well in actual fact I never managed to get more than two episodes into Bebop (there was no story evident by then and I can't stand watching something without a story)
Edit: also one more thing, at least try to read a bit of the manga. Just the first chapter which starts out differently from the anime and is, in my opinion, far better.
