The main reason to get a xbox is the online services but for those that don't live in the US they can't get the services so I can understand why the playstation is more popular in other countries.

If the PS3 does eventually outsell the 360, it'll likely be because of blu-ray.
That, and more good games are being put on the thing. I'm running low on reasons not to buy a PS3. Aside from funds of course.
-
Really, who gives a shit..
I second this.
Publishers are already been making an effort to make quality PS3 titles, rather than the shitty 360 ports of the past.
So the news is pointless, just fanboy ammunition. -
This post is deleted!
-
Depends on the port though.
But can you blame developers? Blu-ray is still relatively new and trying to move something from a DVD disc onto a Blu-ray disc isn't always easy.
To say the least.
-
I'll care once it's 2012…
-
Eh, didn't want to start a fanboy war or anything. As I said, this is good news on all fronts (and it shuts up the 'LOL PS3 distant 3rd' crowd). It keeps Microsoft on its toes to try and stay ahead, and it empowers Sony to go the extra mile. Therefore the quality goes up. Compare to the Sega Saturn just not giving a shit after a while.
If memory serves, 360 and PS3 are the 6th and 7th best selling consoles of all time, and they're gaining fast on the SNES.
-
Neat article BUT this should be in the Sony Hits and Misses thread.
-
I just bought a 320 Gig Ps3 on tuesday (I went into the gamestop and got shot in the neck wioth a nerf bullet, then realized COD Black ops had come out that day, lol kids.) with Ninja storm 2 and the thing is defective and wont read any disks. Spent a half an hour on the phone with Sony today troubleshooting and they said i'll have to get a new one. Don't have to pay for it, but since i've never had any trouble with ANY of my gaming equipment in the past (Except the referbished Ds lite but, come on I was expecting that, k\it's referbished.) I definitely consider it a miss on sony's part. I'm backing nintendo in the arms race, having bought a 64 as my first gaming system, gamecube and wii as well as GBA, SP, DS and now Ds Lite and only purchasing a ps2 along the way because the amazing roster of games was too much to resist, and this situation did NOT leave a good impression on me about the company. I'm not bitter or anything as i'm sure i'll get a working one soon enough but I felt like contributing my story to the discussion.

That's where you fucked up and that's why this happened.
-
-
You're silly for damning something cause you were unlucky and ran into a bad seed. That's like damning all apples because you bit into one with a worm in it. Get a new one, like you said you don't gotta pay for it. Everything will be good.
-
My apologies Buuhan, but she has stated that while miffed, she was not bitter, or damning it.
But yeah, if your PS3 is defective and has a disk reading problem, that is simply the sad and undeniable truth that no manufactured item assembled in a factory will ever be 100% flawless.
It's not a major console issue like the 360's red-ring design flaw, at least, but a rare imperfection that happened in its construction. A shame you have to deal with it. I know from experience that "free replacements" like that can be a frustrating to deal with, so I hope your own experience goes well enough.

I'm surprised the 360 stayed ahead this long, given that it just doesn't sell in Japan, one of the three major territories. Just goes to show how strong it is in America & Europe.

So, what I'm reading from this is that if the PS3 does outsell the 360, it'll be because of Blu-Ray AND because it'll have good games?
Uh.
What else would people buy one for?
Just messin', no offense was meant.
Heck I remember just buying a PS3 for MGS4, and then one day I realized, "oh… I have a Blu-Ray player! And I can buy all those neat looking PS3 games I couldn't have bought previously!"
It was like being 5 years old again with an N64.
I'd always watch commercials about N64 games and would be amazed by them and would wish I had an N64 to play them on... and then one day my dad decided to be super-awesome and actually buy it, and at that moment I realized all of those games that I could only imagine having in my dreams could become a reality, and I was a happy boy!
Star Fox 64 was my childhood. Now, when it happened with a PS3, there was hardly a difference in how I felt (and that's good).
Read Dead Redemption robbed my summer between High School and College. -

Thanks, hopefully i'll be able to play by next weekend (I have a very short window with which to relax each week) and in reply to Buuhan I only mention my opinion on the system being miffed because i'd heard that ps3's and 360's were defective left and right or had issues (RROD, patches, etc) and this basically proved that to be true, while it's possible it's a 1 in a million defect…. I'm not buying it since as I stated of all my systems the one with a defect is the one i've been told is iffy in the first place. But in any case I had a discussion piece I have been wondering about. I bought the 320 gig, and my friend has a 60 gig he got near launch, my ps3 obviously vasttly outranks his in memory, yet he has a whole mess of card slots that mine doesnt, allowing for more media usuage(I would assume). In addition at launch some ps3's played ps2 games while obviously this new one does not. Usually you just get mlore and more things added on to a system over time whereas in this case it seems people who bought these things at different times have almost completely different systems. So what's arlong parks view on this little situation. Which would you rather have and which do you think is best?
Memory
vs.
Ps2 compatability
vs.
Media storage slots
-
Memory: Is just fine to me i can store stuff on exterior places so it isnt really a bother.
PS2compatability: To be honest this is what bugs me the most about it because i replay alot of my previous games, all because the ps2 still sells they'r being an asshole and not adding that to the ps3. It is rumoured they could patch it though but i dont know if that is actually true
Media storage slots: You can store data on USBs and exterior hardrives you know, be it DLC, music, videos or savegames
-
PS2 backward compatibility adds an extra 100$ to the system price tag, thats why its one of the first things that got pulled out of the production cost.
But hey, you can actually buy a new PS2 for that price at this point, so it works out about the same anyway.
-
I'd be surprised if the two chips necessary for PS2 emulation cost anywhere near that much.
But sony were trying to cut every cost possible back in the days where the PS3 cost more for them to manufacture then even the exorbitant price it cost us in the shops, and one after the other they were casualties of the cost saving revisions.
I'd suspect at this stage it would be easy to put them back in and retain a profit. The PS3's cpu/gpu dies have shrunk, and blu-ray is a lot cheaper to make now, so there's been various savings elsewhere.
-
It's a damn shame that I can play Gamecube games on my Nintendo Wii, but not PlayStation 2 games on my PlayStation 3.
Of course, I could buy Nintendo 64 games and PlayStation games on my Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3 respectively, but I can also play PlayStation games on my PlayStation 3, but again, not PlayStation 2 games.
It's going to be really annoying having to bring out and put back my PlayStation 2, just so I can play some Street Fighter II and the Street Fighter Zero series.

Could always just use your computer for that.
-
And now 360's backwards compatibility is basically useless for those who want to play XBOX Originals online.
Halo 2 was so much fucking fun and so much better than 3..
-
It's quite funny, the only bc title I wanted to play on the 360 was my PAL Panzer Dragoon Orta, but that has a known problem where it freezes at the end of the first level, and MS never bothered to take the hours it would take to fix it (NTSC version is fine apparently).
-
Panza Dragoon was the only really GOOD X-Box game I recall existing.

It's not 6 feet under anymore:ninja:.

Speaking of XBOX, I wonder what would have happened if Halo CE stayed Mac/PC exclusive and Bungie was never bought by MS
I know it would have been an RTS.

I don't want to.
I want the real shit.

I would like to bet on my annoying left testicle that Panza Dragoon is a Japanese game…

You would had gotten a PlayStation 3.

Very true
And yes, it's a Japanese game. I know what you mean.

The XBOX more than likely wouldn't have lived to see its "360" iteration.

Returned my ps3 and got a new one today that works, no hassle at all. Huzzah! Also, i like the whole bunch of memory best, as it has been mentioned, ps2 cost $100, you can get one for cheaper than that, save for 3-4 weeks and anyone could get their hands on one.
-
That looks pretty cool.
-
Turning in my PS2 original for credit in 2 weeks for a refurb PS3!
i cant wait!!! -
http://www.siliconera.com/2010/11/19/this-black-box-upscales-psp-to-720p/
HAZAA!!!
That's fucking awesome as hell.
Wow… I really can't wait to get a PSP again now...
-
I hate to burst your bubble guys but this device upscales the resolution only. It does not actually make it 720p. It basically takes the psp's native resolution and enlarges it to fill the screen. The only way to get 720p is to have the psp actually render the scene in 720p. It might be possible with an emulator, who knows.
-
I know, and that's all I want. I just want to play my PSP on my TV and fill it, not have a shitty 4-way letterbox. Hope this device becomes much cheaper.
-
Actually there is a homebrew app I use that works really well. Its called remotejoy lite and outputs your psp's screen to your computer. Basically does what that product does for free on a computer with no extra hardware. I pretty much use the psp as a controller and play on my projector hooked up to my computer.
Here is a vid:
[hide]TNn3z6CXGUc[/hide]Also did you get a new computer yet Buhhan, I am a little curious about what you figured out.
-
I have not, but I really need to. I'm looking at Black Friday sales, but not finding anything great yet.
-
Going to brave the Black Friday mobs? Well good luck and bring a cattle prod just in case.
-
Just don't trample the people working at those places please.
-
Don't worry, I'm not insane enough to actually go during Black Friday. I'm going Thursday night and waiting in the inside McDonalds for midnight, in which case I'll be picking up inFAMOUS and Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction for $10 each. I'll also be picking up God of War Collection and Modern Warfare, also $10 each, for a friend. I wonder if they'll have more $10 PS3 games than that, the ad doesn't say so, but meh.
The computer deals don't start till 5am tho, so I'm more or less not getting a computer on Black Friday.
-
question:
how do i create a virtual memory card?
We created one for FFVII and somehow the game does not recognize the card. -
You mean for the PSP and/or PS3?
You just go in and make one in the Memory Card section. I don't remember the exact steps but it is not difficult
-
I'm trying to decide wether i should get infamous or prototype. I'm hearing infamous is better, but i'm leaning more toward prototype because the story seems slighty more interesting to me. Anyone care to save me from making a mistake or should i go for it?
-
inFamous is one of my favorite PS3 games. I felt that Prototype was fun for a little while, but ultimately not worth it. Unless, of course, you like just dicking around for hours and hours and don't pay attention to environments or story, in which case Prototype is a bit better than inFamous.

Oh i also wnat the game that looks the best visualy since i'm not a big visual's junkie but since i just payed all this money for the ps3 i wanna see whats so damn impressive about the graphics.
-
Apparently, my friend swears up and down that Prototype had a better story, which was a bit interesting, but inFamous looks better, plays better and had a classic "what the fuck?!" ending.
-
Prototype is awful, just awful. It was actually why I avoided inFAMOUS for a long time cause I heard they were so similar, but I can say that's a lie. Yes, they share many things in common, except one. inFAMOUS is actually a good game.
