inFamous is half decent, Prototype just looks awful (from what I've seen, I haven't played the latter)

Ok Infamous it is. Thanks guys.
-
You should of grabbed it 2 weeks ago. It was $10 brand new at both Walmart and Amazon on Black Friday.
-
How much ARE games over there in Americaland to make you feel that is an incredible game
It's been like £6-£10 for about a year brand new here depending on where you shop.
Personally I got tired of InFamous very quickly once I got to the second isle. I should probably pick it up again.
-
Things are different there, Local. You should know that. Games that are praised and sell well, thus staying higher in price, are different between seas. The economy and general business model is also different.
-
Games that sell well here get a Platinum Label and re-released at like £15 here. XIII, Just Cause 2, Resi 5 and Uncharted 2 are the recent ones. X-Box has Classics I believe.
Nintendo just continue their usual plan and keep their main games at full price.
-
I'm still pissed that the prices for even gamecube games takes forever to drop.

Typically, new games come out with a $60 price tag ($50 for the Wii and non Activision-associated PC games) but after a few months or so the price drops about $10-$20, it usually happens faster for games that aren't advertised a whole lot (3D Dot Game Heroes) or just doing poorly in sales for whatever reason (Enslaved).

Thanks for that knowledge that does nothing but make me feel bad.
You're the best Buuhan. -
Some companies (especially Nintendo), will price-freeze their games for long periods of time outside of seasonal sales. It usually takes several years to see a Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Metroid, or Layton game to drop more than $5 in original price. Atlus used to be the worst about this, but they stopped doing it a few years ago when Persona 3 hit $20, the PS2 version of Disgaea was made GH, etc.
-
Yeah. It doesn't matter that the Wii is the cheapest console on the market, have fun getting a gaming collection together for the cheap. The Gamecube games at my GameStop are still pretty damn high.
-
That's why you have to go to second-hand game shops for good prices.
A buddy of mine picked up Viewtiful Joe 2 for $3!
-
GameStop is the only "second-hand" game shop around here. They just recently opened up a Play N Trade and a Game Trader, but they're too far. I wish they were close, cause from the commercials they spam the local airwaves with they look awesome, also selling games for older generations. But 30 miles on gas would leave me with no money to buy any games with anyhow.
-
We have a Play N Trade over here too. Right by my Barnes and Noble.
They are a very good alternative to GameStop. In fact, I would say that 9/10 their deals are far better than GameStop. They even carry rare games you'd normally only find online too.
My Play N Trade has one of those super rare Xbox versions of Marvel Vs Capcom 2. And a bunch of Sega CD and a few Sega Saturn games.
Not that I'm trying to tease you, but you should definitely save up money and plan a trip there sometime. They are incredibly awesome.
-
For the longest time, I've kept a list of games I want from the time they're launched, and checked once a week on various sites. When I consider them to be cheap, I then buy them even if I don't own the console at the time.
It's saved me a whole heap of money on rpg's especially. The only games I buy at launch now are the ones I really want to play, or when great games come out that I feel I should support due to the mere fact of the game's existance (A shadows tale, Fragile Dreams, Blazblue etc).
-
Speaking of which…have you picked up BlazBlue: CS yet?
It should've come out in Europe about 6 days ago…
As for the other topic at hand, I'm mostly stuck with GameStop as my second-hand retailer as well, but I have been pretty lucky with the bargain bins from other big retailers like Best Buy (found a new copy of Dragon Quest V for about $15), FYE (They're usually more misses than hits since they're typically overpriced, but I found Parappa the Rapper for about $7), and the now defunct Circuit City (New copy of Final Fantasy VI Advance, $15, and that game is pretty freakin' rare).

They don't drop in price because they sell stupidly well. Although Metroid Other M is hitting the magic £18 price now in the UK, but that's because a lot of people don't like it.
We did get Blazblue last week and it's already dropped to £20/2 for £30. I got the Collectors Edition for £18.

No kidding? That's the exact same price I got my copy for!

Yup, I ordered the fan edition direct from zen with all the extra gubbins months ago. Picked it up on the weekend.
Trickier is when I'll have a chance to actually play it, but hopefully I'll be able to put a dent in my backlog over Christmas.

lol most of the big games this year are cheap.
We at Toys R Us have Epic Mickey for £25. Mario All Stars for £20 with Mario Figure.
Medal of Honour and New Vegas are both down to £18-£20 most places and I'm sure there's another that I saw cheap too.
Stuff like this makes it pointless even buying stuff brand new when it comes out.

Mario All Stars' RRP is £25, so it's not a huge drop :P
Dragon Quest IV and V dropped in price quickly, V before it came out, but DQIX is still full price because it's selling well.
A lot of games drop price for no reason though.
I do wait for certain games to drop in price before buying it though, like Castlevania Lords of Shadows. It's both great and a shame that they drop so quick.
-
All Stars started at £18 on amazon.
Shame it's not even worth that.

Started off at £18. Then up to £25 last week when I was thinking of getting it. I ended up getting it for £20 with the £4 figure for 'free' so it worked out at £16 if you take that into consideration. While I already have them on GBA and the Snes I felt that I had to buy it. At least the Mario goes with the Donkey Kong from DKC XD
And yah I noticed Castlevania for £18 or so on Zavvi. Was tempted but I got too much of a backlog.

I completely agree.
But I'm probably gonna end up buying it anyway.
If only to let it mature and then resell it on eBay.
The package itself really does look nice though.

Cool.
I'm always eager to fight more Arlong Parkers so Shoot me your PSN-ID and hopefully you'll feel like a few matches sometime over the holidays.
(As it is I've got exams and other homework to keep me busy before then)

I heard the book wasn't that good, and I can see the cd is fairly miserly with the amount of bgm it has.
Might buy it if it goes below £10….but this is nintendo, so that may never happen.
Cool.

I got the xbox version. :(
All my beat'em'ups are on there because I bought the madcatz controllers for it when SF4 came out.

I think it's kinda more marketed for those who never got to play these Mario Games before and are too young to download them from the site.
Remember that for a lot of people the Wii is their first console.
Although then again it is set in a NES style box so XD
-
This should at the least also had mario world 1 & 2 on there
at the very least.
I would have also chucked on super mario land 1 & 2.
All they did was dump a rom onto a disc and call it a day.
-

XBOX Live ID then.
I have both versions since my friends are kinda divided between the two consoles (plus I got a fairly decent discount on a pre-owned version).

Yeah, even SONIC GEMS COLLECTION packed in Vectorman 1&2 the GameGear games as well (They're not that great but still…)
And you'd figure they'd at least use the version with Super Mario World in there (I mean, its Miyamoto's personal favorite).
As it stands You're better off just downloading all four games in their original format off the Wii Shop Channel unless you're desperately eager to get the book and CD (Saves you about $9).
-
Cool, I guess I better find out how to get my 360 online then.

World 1 + 2 hell yes. (woulda also like the Yoshi Cookie and Wario Woods too but.)
Sunshine woulda been nice. (64 is out on DS and Land 1 + 2 is coming on 3DS) Paper Mario 1 too. Maybe even Superstar Saga.
In fact I don't know why Super Mario World wasn't on the disc. Considering it was on the Allstars cart anyways.
-
Well, Allstars + World was on the later cart for package deals at least.
I was just going for every 2d platformer with mario in it(Don't think he was in yoshi's story, so that should have been all of them).
-
No, he wasn't in Yoshi's Story, that would've made the game SOMEWHAT redeemable.
-
I'm glad it came out when the number of new games I got per year was in single digits and I had to be uber careful about what to get
Otherwise that'd have set me back £50 for what seemed like an afterthought.
"oh yeah, we can still do 2d games. Yoshi's island was something like this, right?"
-
I remember getting Yoshi's Story as my 2nd game for the 64. After 4 months of just having Mario Kart it was a nice change.
Then I got Mario 64 and was even happier.
Anyways we should be talking about Sony….um...got Just Cause 2 the other day. Pretty good so far!
-
Right, right Sony, Sony….
Um...
Y'know, I know the game has gotten some mediocre reviews, and from what I've seen I wouldn't argue against them, but I kinda....really want to play the new Splatterhouse.
-
I should make a thread about the awesomeness of Hybrid Heaven that'll get zero replies.
Oh, sony
Still really looking forward to the tactics ogre remake, and hoping last ranker gets a western release.
-
Right now the PSP is teabagging every other console in Japan thanks to Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. It'll be out for only one month of 2010, but it might end up being Japan's top-selling game of 2010
-
Nah.
black/white did 2.5m in its first week, 600k more MH3.
It'd need a stellar second week to come close.
-
This year has been pretty damn awesome for games….

Those sales were in its first five days (it came out on December 1st). Not sure what its full-week numbers look like, or its sales to date. My search options are limited since I'm at work and most gaming websites are blocked :/. If anyone has solid numbers on it, I'd much appreciate it.
-
We'll have to wait for media create or famitsu next week, though there might be an early leak.
It'd have to do over 1M in it's second week basically though, as Pokemon has a YTD of 4.5M and is still in the top ten.
-
This has been a good year for games. But 2011 has potential to be even better for just the handful of titles we know are coming out.
Speaking of which, the PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 has it's release date: January 18th. Europe gets it a couple days after. I'm really stoked to play this game, it was basically one of the main reasons I even wanted to bother with a 360. Now, with ME going multiplatform, only Microsoft exclusive property I'm interested in is Fable… but no big loss there.
-
I've heard FABLE is a pretty good series…as long as you don't listen to Peter Molyneux.
-
I quite enjoyed Fable. It was the only game I was sad to not be able to play anymore on the X-Box.
So what DO we have out next year that looks good? Off the top of my head:
Little Big Planet 2,
Skyward Sword,
Okamiden,
Poke Black + White,
Disgaea 4
Epic Yarn (UK)
3DS stuff
Batman Arkham City.
Uncharted 3?
Assassin's Creed 3?
Bioshock Infinite?…..um......Gears of War 3 is coming out too? I know I'm missing more but off the top of my head I can't rememeber the name of em.
-
Fable 3, I heard, kinda sucked, though..
Local's list is pretty much spot on save for a few PS3 shooters like Killzone 3 which I'm sure none of you give a shit about. Might be time for The Last Guardian, as well.
360 so far only has Gears 3 and an unnamed project by Crytek called Codename Kingdom. MS did state they'll announce exclusive games at VGA but I still think they're ditching their ex-main hardcore fanbase for the Kinect casuals.

You disgust me with your lack of fighting games…

No way… D:

Sony has an exclusive to announce at Video Game Awards as well.
-
I know but I mentioned MS because as everyone knows the 360 has no fucking exclusives other than Halo or Gears and I guess only bro gamers play that so yeah..
Fable Mass Effect etc. aren't really 360 exclusives, more like MS-exclusives.
-
Stalker 2 comes out in 2012.
But yeah, Uncharted 3 is going to be awesome.
-
Too bad only you and 12 other people play the game. Haha
