Most Disappointing Thing in One Piece

One Piece has terrible pacing. No joke.
Seriously? Bleach has terrible pacing, One Piece is constantly interesting and full of new information.
Not being of a physics background, would diamond shatter if frozen and then hit hard/cut?
I wonder why Jozu wasn't in diamond form and does this mean he has lost his arm?
Sorry if this is the wrong place for this.
-

He lost it. In the tank release he didn't have it, and the fact that they changed it means he's more than likely not going to have it.
-
Thank you! Poor chap

Technically diamond, as a solid, is already frozen. Humans are so susceptible to cold because so much of our bodies is liquid water, which causes a lot of damage when it freezes within us. Inanimate solids that aren't actually water ice shouldn't have this problem (from a real world physics perspective). Of course, One Piece can always play by different physics rules, as we've seen time and time again.

If we don't see Gin in the New World. That will be disappointing.

If we don't see Gin in the New World. That will be disappointing.
i think we will, he told sanji to tell luffy that he hopes to see him in the grand line, so its likely theyll meet up
-
That is why. He also told them that Don's dream has become his own. He has already gone into the Grand Line once. He knows there is danger but is willing to go back.
I imagine his strength is immense. -
We saw Momoo again. And Hachi. And Crocodile. And Buggy.
So I'm pretty sure we'll see Gin again. -
In terms of story telling i got no complains at all, my only issue has come about recently and it has to do with the art itself. I dont realy like the way the story is being inked now, its almost too thick and you seem to loose some detail in the panels.
Its kinda starting to look a little like fairy tail.
Just curios if anyone else has had issue with this? -
What are you talking about?
-
I've just been doin a re-read of the manga and I just noticed a difference in the art specifically the inking. Comparing it to past arcs like skypiea and enis lobby the inking now seems less crisp and too dark and thick.

Id say theres mor detail in the art and the backgrounds now…as for the inking, let oda do what he wants :p

Want to give some specific examples via links and what not (if you have the time that is)? I just want to know what you mean more clearly.

Duh! It's the scan quality.:getlost: You're having a laugh if you think it's less crisp.

Yeah i think your right. Its the manga stream scans that i get the feeling from, comparing it to other scans it looks closer to the older stuff

One Piece has terrible pacing. No joke.
It's a long story, but I surely don't think the pacing is terrible. Actually it's too rushed sometimes, like when what was probably the biggest event in modern One Piece history (the battle of Marineford) was resolved in shorter time than Thriller Bark.

I agree. Considering how much has happened, one piece seems to whiz by when you read the whole thing. There's never a dull moment.

Although this is more of a problem with all manga and not just One Piece, I don't like all the scandally clad women. They all seem to have rediculous body proportions and dress to the equivolant of prostitues in real life. I know its directed towards a teenage male audience, but I don't understand why they have to get errect while reading coming books.
Also the powerscaling is too vauge, especially with the warlords and vice admirals. Crocodile lost to Luffy before he ever had G2 or G3, and yet someone like DoFlammingo just toys around with Jozou. Aren't these 7 combined supposed to help maintain balance with the WG and the Yonkou. If they were all as strong as DoFlam or Mihawk it would make sense, but considering how fodder even G2 Luffy is compared to a commander or Admiral it seems like too much of a strech to belive Croc can be a warlord.
And my last big problem is I think Haki is a recon'ed idea. I say this because Blackbeard and Croc. It wouldn't make sense to give Croc such a glaring and obvious weakness like water if you know there is haki around. Same with Blackbeard saying Ace probably isn't used to being hit.
I know this isn't the best written post, but it's late and I'm avoiding doing my assignment.

It's the situations that give off this impression.
For example, if Croc hadn't pierced Luffy's water jug (Or if he didn't get arrogant and made sure he was dead), Luffy likely wouldn't have figured out a way to beat him.
Hell, Croc went toe-to-toe with Donquixote and came out scot-free.

Who in their right mind gets an erection from a Shounen manga?

Umm If Doflamingo didnt have his devil fruit power (which is basically what Luffy did to Crocodile) then Luffy could beat his ass. Doflam is powerful because he can control people just as Croc was powerful because he was a logia. And of course there are different levels of power among the warlords just as there is among the Yonkou.

Actually I think the best thing about OP is that there is no definitive power levels. Re: Luffy's power, with the exception of Gear 2, he had the same level of strength throughout most of the series. Oda makes it pretty obvious that Luffy beat Crocodile with pure heart, and the water weakness (deus ex machina granted) was a way for someone with no haki ability to beat someone of Crocodile's caliber. In fact, we see that even after being able to hit Croc, Luffy was unable to defeat him, which shows that Croc knows how to fight with ppl who can hit him. Although, I do agree with you: BB's comment about Ace not used to being hit was sloppy and misleading of Oda.
Furthermore, the Shichibukai are SAID to balance with the Pirates and the Government, but really that is a constructed rumor of the Government, who uses the reputation and the clout of the said Warlords to expand their own influence. Obviously the warlords don't actually maintain any balance because in the end they are on the Government's side.
PS: There's one mystery that people keep forgetting about: in chap 567, WB supposedly stabbed Aokiji with Haki, but he came out unscathed. That suggests that high level Logia users can still avoid Haki armor attacks.

^^ not to mention it wasn't like Luffy just walked into Arabasta and whooped Croc's ass like it was no thing. The first time they met was very one sided and Luffy was left for dead. The second time they met was a bit more competitive and Luffy was still left for dead. The third time they met Luffy was finally able to win but he was still a dead man walking. If it had not been for Robin giving him the antidote he would have been a goner. Basically Luffy was just a the right amount of determined and lucky to finally beat a frustrated Crocodile (who was just tired of the little shit by the time Luffy won - Croc was clearly not fighting smart and level headed anymore.)

Uhmm… It's keeps them happy, makes them want to do nasty things with the cartoons and it's a great way to stay in shape. <--- what is this referencing?

Yeah, he also got sliced in the neck by Vista and wasn't affected at all. I think its probably his haki counter Vista and Whitebeards haki so that he may get a little cut instead of taking a fatal blow.
And I do like the whole A>B and B>C doesn't mean A>C thing.
My problem is more about the heart thing should only go so far. It was made very clear throughout the war that although Luffy had insane amounts of heart, he was simply to weak to fight against the top tiers. I think all the warlords should be placed in that level. G1 Luffy really should have just been too weak to fight Croc, and shouldn't have been able to ever catch him considering how slow even G2 Luffy is compared to the top tiers.
Same idea with the VAs. They are the people who are next in line to become admirals if one were to retire/die, and all the current admirals have obviously been VA's in the past. However, it doesn't seem that any combination of 2 VA's now can hold a fart compared to just one of the admirals now.
That's what I'm trying to get at by power scaling being vauge. Common logic just doesn't seem to apply. I have no problem though with something like Doflams power being weak against logias and whatnot.
Also, why was Enels lightning so hot it could melt gold, but not hot enough to give Luffy carpet burn. Considering Lightning is 50 times hotter than magma, which is 5 times hotter than fire, which was able to burn Ace, you would think Luffy would have instantly deteriorated after being hit. I suppose thats just nit picking now, and Enel would have eradicated the SH crew if it wasn't for that over exaduration of rubber not conducting electricity.
BTW, I know I'm making it sound as though I hate the manga, but I actually think it by far the best thing I have ever read, just noting a few things that are a little irritating.
-
Define how G2 Luffy is slow compared to the top tiers
-
They're perceptive abilities and reactions speed mean his speed advantage isn't much of a help. Add in mantra for some characters and G2 speed is moot.
Croc is a Warlord because he still served his purpose of keeping lesser pirates in check. Being a Logia means 99% of pirates cannot hurt him in the first half of the Grand Line. Very few who could discover his weakness before being defeated and less who could actually exploit it. Even in a war setting with 10s of thousands of "elite" fighters only a few dozen or less could actually take on Croc.

If you get errect reading one piece then you got some issues buddy. If you want to throw blame or wag your no-no finger then do it at male designers. The change in how women are show in stories started a long time ago. First it was women being shown as house wives and mothers, then progressively moved to them being equals then to sex objects.

Obviously common logic doesn't work. We're talking about "shonen" logic here - only adults care about that. I don't think you need to be reminded of the target audience of this manga. Movies targeted at adult audiences often feature the silencer on handguns. Did you know that silenced handguns are still VERY loud? Does that fact automatically make every spy movie horrible. Nope, just another use of deux ex machina. You'll find I often use that term when discussing One Piece. Where it may be critical to point out obvious deus ex machina's in a novel or play, I don't think it's necessarily bad in Shonen manga or comics (not including Seinen and Graphic novels). At the end of the day, the hero of the comic always save the day - the fans want it and the author gives it to them.
I agree with your opinions about the lack luster VAs or rather the over bearing power of the Admirals. This 2 year gap will hopefully fix a lot of that. Smoker is an obvious candidate to become VA, and some other VA's will somehow become stronger. Maybe the Government will hand out Devil Fruits like they did to the CP9. Bottomline: there are a LOT of characters in OP, and sometimes we can (imo) see Oda getting lazy at character designs. I really felt that with the allied Pirate captains with WB. Some of them are cooler than others, while a whole bunch of them were straight up ugly. It wasn't just the looked either, a lot of the so called "strong" guys end up being fodder, or else not much was elaborated. Honestly I'm not complaining. You can't expect every character to have a history. Oda isn't Tolkien; he has deadlines and drawings to worry about.
On that note the MOST disappointing thing for me is Oda's incompetence at perspective and size. I mean it just seems like SUCH a preventable fail. The fans have directly pointed it out to Oda: when you're asked directly how tall the Shicibukai are in an SBS, surely you can take a hint. Below is just one instance:
http://www.mangafox.com/manga/one_piece/v51/c500/7.html

You are right about the size issues. Sometimes the Warlords look like giants.
Mihawk looked a normal height at Baratie. Put him in a war and he gets a growth spurt? Brook looks like a giant. He is taller than most crew members, but he isn't as tall as that image. -
The inconsistency with sizes is pretty disappointing, isn't it? Oda should use scale comparison charts prepared in advance or something. Especially if you're planning a massive war arc with everybody fighting each other.
Although those scale charts would be pretty ginormous themselves.
-
Size problems are pretty annoying, but they have their funny moments. That way even Hancock can be twice as tall as normal people and Luffy's punch can make Garp look bigger. But I've been thinking if this is just Oda's way to make some situations more impressive.

I like the way women are portrayed in One Piece. Strong, independent, sex object. Any women who doesn't want to be betrayed as an sex object needs to shut up and make some babies.
