Actually, McFarlane didn't write that one.
He doesn't write most of them, in fact. Just produces, oversees and provides 90% of the voices, so you'd assume he'd also be responsible for/take credit/blame for quality control.

sowwy.
I have to admit, I was curious when everyone said it was good, so I wikipedia-ed it.
Only reason I know Seth didn't write it.
Since I still haven't seen it. Nor will I ever.
Mostly I just check this thread for the same reasons as Naruto, Fairy Tail, and the Sonic the Hedgehog games.
The cynic in me believes that this was Seth's "cleansing" episode, where he kills off a bunch of characters that have gone stale and he has no more use for.
That being said, it was a pretty good episode.
Who was killed, anyway?
Hopefully Herbert was one of them, because he's been stale for years now.
@RobbyBevard:
Who was killed, anyway?
James Woods, Murial Goldman (Mort's wife), Derek (Jillian's boyfriend (she's Brian's ex), and Diane Simmons.
Oh and two characters introduced just for this episode.
Wow. Dianne Simmons got killed off?

Husband, actually.
But no, Herbert is still alive because I guess pedophilia jokes on a constant basis are…funny.
EDIT: @Flux: Not only that...
! She was the murderer.
Outside of Diane who really just is there for newscast bits, the rest of them are either guest characters or Muriel, who has had like 5 lines the entire series.
Wait…. they killed James Woods, the best recurring guest character on the show... and NOT the pedophile who was appropriately creepy once, and then got old after the second appearance?
And wasn't Mort's wife basically exactly him anyway? I don't know who Kevin is, and the newscaster is whatever. I'd be more impressed if they killed Quagmire or Brian or something.

For some reason a lot of the fans love him. Why? Don't know.
And apparently next week Brian gets persuaded by Rush Limbaugh and Lois gets mad about it. So yeah.
Also I think Tom Tucker is still in jail. Now is Jake Tuckers time to shine

Oh great, a Brian episode. Those are the worst.

Because people who lack brains think pedophilia jokes are funny after the first time.
I remember a few months ago i saw the episode where Stewie and Brian are stuck in a bank vault…...It was dark, cold and i didnt even watch the entire thing.
After that i saw the Xbox episode where Peter says he doesnt like his kids. Terrible, boring, dull.
Ill admit i had the 1st 3 seasons on DVD shit was fucking hilarous. I even remember the 1st time, Goddamn hilarious. Now its shit, hate it.
Is it true that the cutaway gags have been toned down.
In the latest episode I believe they were non-existent.
Specials usually have no flashbacks and cutaways.. The last and only one I remember was the Christmas Special. One of the better episodes to me.

Pedophilia characters within comedy series will always be funny.
:x
Sorry.
Same could be said about a random reoccurring guy with an Indian accent. I noticed that alot in comedies.

This.
Or the redneck in just about ANY American ensemble comedy (live action or animated).
Some things just WORK in comedy regardless of how many times it's done.
Comedy IS about repetition after all.
I like Family Guy.
I went through a phase a while back where I didn't like "Family Guy" for the animation style and gags that had nothing to do the storyline, but you know, after watching it recently, it's actually not bad. The art style is nothing impressive but it's not terrible, the cutaway gags aren't too obnoxious, more importantly it has enough funny and well-timed dialogue and physical gags that suit the animation medium to keep me satisfied.

Now move on to season 3… :ninja:
I like Family Guy.
wrong thread. we're discussing why family guy sucks. :P
i saw a few old episodes on tv today. wow. what a difference in quality. the old ones are actually good.
Now move on to season 3… :ninja:
What what's the difference? I've been watching episodes from various more recent seasons.
Wow "Family Guy" really is the next "Simpsons" in regards to people not liking the newer episodes.

It happens with most shows in the U.S.
Some people SWEAR South Park was good and now is trash.
When in reality it's FAR from the truth.
South Park NOW is above and beyond ANYTHING the show gave us before the 3rd season (I've liked it since day one… but let's be honest here).
^ Real talk.

Because the old episodes didn't rely on humor that was a mix between Friedberg and Seltzer humor, and Bill Maher on drugs.
I've always thought South Park was more hit and miss throughout the entire series, and while most are good, every season has one or two bad episodes.
Family Guy just slowly declined after season 3, where you would have one episode out of a 22 episode season that's actually good.

"South Park" is a mixed bag for me. I don't really think it's changed much except for the whole having-a-point thing that was addressed in the "Drawn Together" movie, which is what I think makes "South Park" a mixed bag. Yes I love the show, but I really didn't think the "Dawn of the Dead" parody with homeless people thing was funny.
When it comes to comedy I like stupid shit.
Especially movie parodies.
So yeah… the Bum episode was pure lulz for me.
I'm extremely forgiving when it comes to comedy.
As long as it's not Carrot Top or Going Overboard bad I'm ok.
Family Guy isn't as funny as it used to be for sure, but I just think that's more indicative of it's approach going stale more than anything else. However if you just accept it for what it is at face value without nostalgia goggles it can be a decent laugh, and mildly entertaining with a shitty episode here and there.
I have no idea if anything was new, but about every Seth show was trash tonight.
I actually liked American Dad, though I thought the 100th would be more special…
As for FG, I guessed every detail about this episode the other day at lunch just based on the summary. I hate the political episodes of FG because it's just Seth trying to get people to see the liberal side of things while making conservatives look like assholes. Both parties do a good job of that by themselves. I want to watch Family Guy, not Fox New vs. CNN.

Well…
! Jeff and Haley did get married, so I guess that is kind of a big deal.

I missed ten or so minutes of the episode, but yeah, it looked like typical republican bashing by Seth. Although, in his defense, he didn't make them look like total assholes.

I liked the earlier scatological SP episodes because they were vehicles for zany characters bouncing off one another set in a town that lambasted semi-rural Midwestern America.
Modern SP aspires to be satirical, though at its base it's just a mouthpiece for Matt and Trey to comment on stuff without getting in trouble with powerful people. I'm not saying it's worse, just different, but SP is the only show I think that more or less changed fundamentally in focus but retained the same level of quality. It's just not as hysterically funny anymore, but I'm OK with that because it's added some intellectual humour to balance out the crude.
Simpsons, though, is very much past its prime, and its own popularity and slot on TV sustains its undeath. FG was always too offensive for me, even more than Borat because Seth would (through Brian) make Philippino jokes, which I took personally, even if I didn't want to. It felt like a kick in the balls each time I thought about how other people were interpreting those jokes.
The Cleveland Show was particularly terrible this time around.
Family Guy went right back into its normal rut though the characters killed off in the premiere were apparently actually killed off. The show was less about Limbaugh and more about how Brian is really a contrarian jackass with no real convictions rather than an actual liberal. He's for or against things not because of what he really thinks, but because it's against whatever society thinks.
American Dad was better than either of them, but it's been less terrible than either show for a while now. I wonder if they're going to write Haley off; it's not like she's actually done anything much since the show began. They might as well just take Roberta off the Cleveland Show and Meg off of Family Guy while they're at it.

Are you kidding? Than who would they have to lampoon and make fun of every episode?
…......Forget I said that.
Yeah, American Dad was better than 2 but after that terrible TERRIBLE Cleavland Show episode, it was kinda hard to see FG or AD as an actual episode. They both had that badly done "live show" feeling I could not rub out.
So I forgot to change channels while watching Adult Swim and Family Guy came on. It's that hour long special.
…I'm surprisingly liking this episode. The jokes are actually funny. The writing's good and the animation's muuuuch better than the usual stiff crap. As much as I rag about how much they push the fact that Herbert's a pedophile, the whole animation where he zips in (one leg first, whole body after) when told he's to be paired with Chris was actually well done and gave me a chuckle. Though this whole thing is giving me a "Who Shot Mr. Burns?" vibe.
Why the hell can't the rest of the series be like this? Actual plot, some form of character development, no cutaway gags, jokes that have something to do with the plot. Who wrote this episode and why don't they normally do the rest of the series?

Wait, was it that Christmas special?
Looked nothing like it had anything to do with Christmas. It revolved around a murder mystery at James Wood's house.
It was a well thought out and serious parody of Then There Were None. Thought I'm sure you got that from the title, "Then There Were Fewer".
I think it was just a parody of the mystery genre in general and spoofed "And Then There were None" for the title. The episode didn't really resemble what I know of the book.
American Dad was really good last night. FG and CS episodes are probably the last ones I'd be watching. It feels as if I wasted one hour again.
Since there's no Simpsoms topic I know of, I'd say something about it here. The opening was disturbing as hell. Thought provoking almost. It showed a bunch of Chinese in labor working on Simpsons, and Simpsons products. The thing ends showing a dark and musty version of the Fox logo. I was like "WOW". Even more when Bart said "kiss my ass" rather than "eat my shorts".

…what the hell prompted them to do that?
have they been told they're cancelled and this is their final season or something, now that they've tied Gunsmoke?
