@RobbyBevard:
They don't care about continuity.
Or consistent characterization.
Or any charactization for that matter.
Or quality.
Hell, sometimes in an episode they'll even blatantly point out they're contradicting an old episode and they're aware of it. "Hey, didn't you prove Rush Limbah was actually Fred Savage?" or "Hey Brian, how can you have a 15 year old son when you're only 7?" and they just shrug and ignore it to do the episode anyway.
This is why Brian can switch from voice of reason to total douchebag to looking for a smart woman to looking for a slut from hard democrat to pretend republican. Because they just don't care.
The rest of the cast just gets more retarded as time goes on.
And they may as well write Meg out entirely in some way.
I agree the rest of the cast are former shells of what they used to be. Peter in the first couple of seasons wasn't a retard sure he did stupid things but that was more or less a homage to homer. Than they got canned and came back an suddenly "HEY PETER'S RETARDED!!". I can't think of anything wrong with Lois or Chris's character. Quagmire is now a rapist and everyone else is o.k with it even joe knows it and he hasn't arrested him. The best character since season 4 is Meg cause she's bland as a doornail and that give's the writers a wide range to work with. An there's stewie I missed his world domination, intellectual thinking wants to kill his mom stewie now we have i'm going to hang with brain the most bland character and fown over other men while having random episodes that show that I still like women stewie.
Yeah Old FG was better, the new stuff has some good jokes like 1 or 2 per episode. But at least this season isn't ridiculed with a fight each episode or drug related like last seasons.
all adult swim shows>futurama>ugly americans>everything else
I'd put:
Tom goes to the Mayor
12 oz mouse
SquidBillies
down there with everything else
I just watched that And Then There Were Fewer special.
Definitely one of the best episodes of Family Guy since… well, its first run.
I just watched that And Then There Were Fewer special.
I'd give that more props if they had actually killed anyone interesting/incredibly tired one note jokes. Like Meg. Instead they just invented new characters to kill.
Instead they killed James Woods, the best recurring character on the show.

James Woods is coming back this season, so yeah. They really don't like the continuity thing. If anything Herbert needed to die, because when have the pedophile jokes ever been funny?

Agreed, Herbert was O.K for that one episode the family went to the south because of chris being hunted down by that inmate who hold a store up.
Other than that he's just a nuisance.
The pedophile was funny and creepy the first time. Maybe even the second.
But after becoming a recurring regular character, not so much.
I can't think of anything wrong with Lois or Chris's character.
How about the fact that, whereas she used to be the voice of reason, she's now an apathetic, nihilistic bitch. Or at least she switches between the two.
Chris is pretty much the same though, only he doesn't get much attention.
Oh, and they need to lay off the dead baby jokes.
Lois was the sympathetic one in the family in the first seasons. Now she's a bitch that couldn't give two left flying shits about her family, and practically goes out of her way to be a bitch.
Chris on the other hand I think had an improvement. Before he was just as bland as Meg, perhaps even more retarded than Peter is now. However, while he did gain some intelligence, and gotten more of a personality, the writers don't seem to know what to do with him, keep him as retarded as Peter, or giving him a personality, but make him a bit slow.
I found Woods annoying more than anything. His little pet rivalry with Brian bore the hell out of me.

Yup.

Honestly I didn't notice this.
I remember the one episode where Peter was being sexually harassed by his boss at the brewery, and Lois was openly mocking him for it, saying "It's not abuse if a woman does it to a man, because a man enjoys it."
That made me stop watching the show permanently. The OJ Simpson episode may have stopped me for a while, but that put it over the top.

During the same scene Meg taked about how her teacher had been fondling her, and was completely ignored.
Yeah. Such a great family.
there was an OJ episode?
and ya…that was a proud proud moment in television, wasn't it. :\

The OJ episode is where the series really lost me.
Along with painfully outdated jokes (which they tried to justify by saying it took place two years prior to the episode airing) and an ENTIRE Conway Twitty song (that's 3 minutes of a 22 minute show)… yeah.
I found Woods annoying more than anything. His little pet rivalry with Brian bore the hell out of me.
Yeah really didnt like him in FG, at first i thought it might have been because i havent really seen anything with James Woods but then i remembered that i loved him in the Homer and Apu ep of the simpsons.
So i'll just chalk it up to bad writing on the FG staffs part.

wasn't that from last season? cause that season sucked ass.
Hmm… The OJ ep... Was that the one where the entire episode portrays OJ in a positive light, only to jump the shark and make the last minute involving him stabbing a couple of people for no reason and running off? Yeah. It felt like a wasted a good amount of time watching it.

I guess he's not much of a "family guy" after all! Hahahaha!
…

I stopped liking family guy that exact episode. I enjoyed how stupid he was but they took it to far. There use to be a lesson at the end of every episode. Peter may have been a fuck up but at least he was a Family Guy. That's who he cared about. Now in recent episodes he admits he truly doesn't care about his own kids.

which is quite sad and that is why I would rate both new simpsons and the cleveland show over family guy.
btw what's everyone's opinion on the cleveland show? good. bad. watchable.
I think it's way better than family guy
Cleveland is okay, but it does have bad episodes. I stopped watching it after the live show thing… That was just terrible.
The only problem i have with the cleveland show is that some of the voice actors sound horrible.
Other than that it's fine, a bit bland but fine. Except Tim the bear he should get the next spin-off.
i don't think cleveland has crossed that line yet, so it's not bad in that sense, but it's bland and been done already. I only watch it cause I don't have cable and I like to have background noise.

so far that's been the only bad episode

No offense Taboo, but you must be on crack if you think Tom Goes to the Mayor is a better show than Futurama.
Was that the worst show on adult swim you could think of, because Tom Goes to the Mayor was really good. Then it got canceled and Tim & Eric decided they'd rather do a show that was terrible instead and confirmed that they were in fact completely unfunny doofuses.
Even if Tom wasn't your thing (which is understandable), there've been things considered way more universally bad than that on AS.
Also, Cleveland Show is the most bottom of the barrel, phoned in stuff possible so you guys are truly insane for finding it "ok". I can understand not holding it accountably awful by it simply being un-notable, but that doesn't forgive everything about it being a bad idea.
@Holy:

You could practically include 95% of Adult Swim's original programming
in there and a good percentage of the anime they show either because
they were terrible to begin with or have been spammed to hell.
Personally, I can't stand watching the Cleavland show. I just can't.
I'm a Family Guy fan of the first run (Seasons 1 and 2 before it came back from its first cancelltion to air Season 3.) I still like the show, but its just goes up and down now days.
I'm more of a fan of American Dad now days. Since there is a lot of good episodes.
either because
they were terrible to begin
Fair enough.
with or have been spammed to hell.
Wait. So you're saying they have shows that are good, but them showing them makes them bad? That makes no sense at all.
"Screw them and their good shows, I don't want them airing the good stuff more than once"?
@RobbyBevard:
"Screw them and their good shows, I don't want them airing the good stuff more than once"?
Well when you see Inuyasha or Bebop on the schedule after completing it's 24th complete run you just gotta ask yourself is this trip really necessary?
1-Inu Yasha was NEVER good past its first 20 episodes anyway.
2-Bebop is always good… and you don't always have to watch it. Just think, there's still people who can see it for the very first time.
Hell, they don't even air it for hour long blocks every night anymore, its just one episode a week at like 2:30 AM. So it only reruns twice a year. ANd Yasha has well over a hundred eps, so... it only reruns once a year at this point. Or less.
i happened to like that episode of inuyasha late in the series, where he meets kagome's friends. :3
but yes, bebop is one of those really good animes. it's ok to rerun it. wish I had adult swim…...........mmm, no, if I had cable, I would not have a life.
and just to stay on topic (well sort of) american dad is the best of the lot now-a-days.
i happened to like that episode of inuyasha late in the series, where he meets kagome's friends. :3
The fact that you have to single out "that episode" amongst a couple hundred…
Inu Yasha wasn't bad... it was just insanely repetitive after the entire cast was assembled. It would have been much better served as a much shorter series.
or if they had more episodes where different characters interacted like the one i mentioned.
The Cleveland is downright awful. That recent Family Guy Christmas special has got nothing on the original one where Louis goes apeshit when her family doesn't the meaning of Christmas. Stewie from the older episodes and Stewie from the newer episodes are two completely different characters, I swear they are.

Yeah…this Family Guy christmas episode really sucked. I honestly didn't care too much for the American Dad one either, but it was better than the Family Guy one. In a way, it feels like the creator felt too forced that he had to make Santa get involved in some way in both shows instead of focusing on other Christmas aspects.

the only way that show is even remotely funny is if your high before watching it (which I was during one episode), other wise it's like doonesbury boring political crap.
the best AS show:
Sealab 2021
Sealab is great, but I prefer Harvey Birdman. I'd say Sealab is my second favorite, after Harvey.
~MUUURRR
The moment FG lost its funny for me was when Brian became the new punching bag of the show. There's misfortune for a character for the sake of the story and then there's just being plain cruel. And it seems that every other episode is just to see how to make Brian look foolish or screw him over. Seriously I can picture the writing team trying to come up with ideas and pretty much say "Bah I can't think of anything for the other characters! Ah let's just kick around Brian again. Thats always fun." Sure one or two episodes fine. But it seem the entire seasons are nothing BUT these or Stewie and Brian doing "so and so"…with Brian getting the short end of the stick. Is Peter even the main character anymore? It doesn't even feel like he in the show now.
Only Adult Swim originals I enjoyed were:
Sealab, ATHF, harvey Birdman, Robot Chicken, Metalocalypse
I was watching Family Guy the other night on Adult Swim. I find it offensive how far the series has slumped since its beginning (The one where Meg and Peter crash into the TV thing). Sure the voices are generally better now, but god if the characters haven't lost their charm.
American Dad is pretty enjoyable though for the most part.
Is Venture Brothers an Adult Swim original or not?
Is Venture Brothers an Adult Swim original or not?
Yes, but it destroys any blanket statements about the AS lineup sucking, so its ignored.
AS lineup is pretty much a mixed bag from all aspects (original, syndicated and anime).
On the one hand you've got:
-Venture Bros.
-Robot Chicken
-Sealab
-ATHF (the first three seasons)
-Fullmetal Alchemist
-King of the Hill
-Metalocalypse
-Harvey Birdman
-Cowboy Bebop
-Frisky Dingo
-Boondocks
And then on the other hand you've got:
-12 oz. Mouse
-Squidbillies
-Tim and Eric
-Inuyasha
-Perfect Hair Forever
-Bleach
Actually, to be quite honest, I can think of quite a few more good shows than bad shows, and a lot of those bad shows have been taken off.
Good Adult Swim shows:
The Venture Brothers
Robot Chicken
Captain Murphy-era Sealab 2021
The Boondocks
Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law
Moral Orel
Everything else should have their master copies soaked in acid followed by the destruction of the studios involved. After that, salt should be liberally strewn on the ground where the former buildings stood.
Here is the AS Originals that I like.
Venture Bros
Sealab 2021 (The Murphey era episodes)
Frisky Dingo (This show is just awesome)
Superjail
Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law
ATHF
Moral Orel
The Brak Show (Yes, I'm one of the few people that like this show.)
Space Ghost Coast to Coast
They really need to start rerunning Sealab and The Brak Show again. Since it feel like been years they aired both shows.

all of those are awesome
is the Mighty Boosh an A.S original?
Mighty Boosh is from a decade ago and it's from the UK
