Actually I think I do see the kanji for pirate there. I wish the scans for it were larger, though. The earlier ones were better for some reason.
Arlong Park rereads One Piece in 4 weeks
-
-
I remember that in the Viz volume. It just points to him and says Pirate.
-
@Nia:
Aaah, I loved seeing Zeff again. I almost forgot how much I actually liked this guy.
just started with baratie arc and i can't wait for zeff! i love that old geezer! and patty and carne … haaaa~ those guys were awesome!
-
Am I the only one who noticed that Patty (or was it Carney) had a similar body shape to Franky? XD With the arms and all XD
Also did anyone else notice Robin lookalike on the Baratie, drinking wine, similar hairstyle and also doing her hand to head pose.
-
@Nia:
Aaah, I loved seeing Zeff again. I almost forgot how much I actually liked this guy.
Same here.
I also agree with the random cook that says "No matter how many times he does it, Sanji's kick is still fascinating". 597 chapters and I still love it every time -
oh man just started rereading. I'm going to make a reference list of where to find each character so I can find them when I draw. I actually had to stop reading to make a pinup of alvida -_-;; Hopefully I'll get past my distraction and be caught up with you guys by tomorrow
-
Am I the only one who noticed that Patty (or was it Carney) had a similar body shape to Franky? XD With the arms and all XD
yeah that's patty ^^ hihi i'm loving his very manly tattoo XD hihi gosh i love those guys … patty's 'welcome' face cracks me up everytime XD
-
gin is and stays awesome and i will be dissapoited if he doesnt return
-
I love that Luffy gets an intro box when he goes into the Baratie kitchen to work .
Edit: I remember a discussion earlier about how many of Usopp's lies have come true. I'm not sure if anyone mentioned the one in the Baratie arc when he says he hates mushrooms because he ate a poisoned one as a kid. Hiruluk dies by eating a poisoned mushroom. It's probably already been mentioned but I just had to point it out.
-
@Kairouseki:
I love that Luffy gets an intro box when he goes into the Baratie kitchen to work .
LOL, yeah, that really made me laugh XD
And he looked very cute with that apron. Hehe. -
If I didn't have only up to Volume 37, I'd SOOOO reread the series ;_____;
-
Read online .
-
wohoooo~ so today i finished baratie arc! ^o^/ .. that makes … 69 chapters in one go .. XD i need sleep .... haaa~
-
Finished the Baratie arc.
Thoughts of Buggy side story.
! It's interesting how Alvida's face was shown before her "official" reappearance. The most recent "reappearances" I remember are Crocodile and Sabo, both of whom had their face or eyes covered before the big "reveal".
! There was a half moon when Cabaji and Mohji were fighting. I wonder when this happened in correlation to the Strawhat adventures.Baratie storyline
! I noticed when Krieg's ship first came out that Yosaku and Johnny were in bandages. I never noticed that before. Plus, I finally noticed that SBS scene with the parent stealing food from the kid.
! Zoro and Mihawk's fight is always awesome, but I forgot how much mention there was of ambition and willpower. Three guesses as to what I thought of during that fight.
! Mihawk had a sweat drop when Zoro pulled out the Three Thousand Worlds. Given it's only other use, that attack must be incredibly powerful.
! Krieg's plan to take a ship was a douche move, but otherwise it wasn't that evil. It really hit me in Sanji's flashback when the Zeff pirates were stealing loot. This arc was really a pirate fighting "pirate" storyline which I don't think has been utilized that much in the Grand Line. Arlong had that "pirates" fighting "pirates" attitude but the reasons behind the Arlong fight were so much more meaningful.
! It's odd how that scene with the chefs circling Sanji involved guns, but the rest of the storyline had the chefs with giant utensils. Maybe guns are too violent? Or more likely giant utensils are more awesome.
! Story is still feeling "generic" in a way, but there's definitely a lot more interesting characters on board the Baratie. Zeff is badass, and Patty and Carne are hilarious.
! The flashback was pretty touching even if it's not the most touching. Plus the manly goodbye scene. Manly tears. Nuff said. I really like the scene.Sanji
! Sanji is awesome and he this arc really showed off his badass attitude. Sanji kicked a giant fish/boat without much difficultly and dove into the flames without hesitation. That was pretty sick and really showcases Sanji's fighting abilities and cool demeanor.
! I also realized how the way Sanji acts around the ladies hasn't changed much. Sure, he was definitely Mr. Suave during his first appearance in Fullbody but he has those moments throughout the series.
! After seeing Nami his skirt seeking self really has been there since the beginning, especially after he has that lovesick act around two ladies shortly after that scene.Krieg pirates
! I forgot how funny Pearl was. He was an idiot but "dangerous". He's that guy you can't really take seriously but should kinda watch out for.
! Gin is always awesome. I REALLY hope we see him again. That fight really didn't showcase Gin's full potential. It's hard to gauge Gin's strength given Sanji was really injured at that point they started fighting but Gin seems very powerful.
! At the very least he took out Pearl's shield in one attack, and Sanji threw a couple kicks and didn't even leave a dent though it could be easily argued Sanji didn't get serious when fighting Pearl. Bottom line, Gin still needs to unleash his inner badass.
! I nominated Krieg last year in the tournament and realized how hated he was by the community. I will admit that Krieg doesn't really have a personaltiy. He really is just "I am strong" and that's about it. His morals though do fit with piracy. Other than the utter lack of care and respect for his crew mates, his actions and morals aren't really evil, just devious. Or at least not "evil" by pirate standards. This seems like the kind of thing pirates do all the time.
! His armory is very impressive though. Everybody calls Krieg weak but that fight was definitely the toughest fight for Luffy yet and toughest for awhile. I'll wait until I reread Arlong to really compare it, but I always thought Krieg was the tougher opponent, not that Arlong wasn't tough. Arlong just had this "evil he needs to get beat up" attitude but that's for tomorrow.
! I do honestly believe that if Krieg did have some knowledge on the Grand Line that they could've made it fairly far, albeit not able to take on any of "the strongest" that the series has provided.
! I can't wait to see these characters again, but I'm wondering what the dynamic will be or if they'll all be there.
! I could see Krieg being captured by the Marines since the Marines do know about the fight between Don Krieg and Luffy. Then again, I would like to see Don Krieg again for a couple reasons.
! 1)Wapol's sidestory invented a new type of steel. I don't think anything is known about this steel yet but one of my ideas involved Krieg upgrading his armor with this steel. Wapol's steel is one of the few things I'm expecting to pay off in the story in the future.
! 2)Relationship to Gin. It's really unclear how those two interacted after Baratie. Gin's willing to step out of Don Krieg's shadow and Don Krieg is a prideful man who might not listen to Gin's command. If/When Gin comes back, I have no idea if Don Krieg will be with him. Hopefully Pearl is though. Pearl's hilarious. -
Some random thoughts on the Baratie arc:
-
I was completely fine with Zoro training under Mihawk, but now that I've re-read their first meeting, it makes me feel that it's a little out of place and anti-climatic…
-
Can't help but wonder what kind of pirate, and how far into the Grand Line Zeff and his crew went. They say he spent a year there, which doesn't seem long, but if he already was an experienced pirate, he may have gotten far. Hopefully Oda will expand on this.
-
Gin is indeed great, and I didn't remember his farewell speech being so "independant", as in "I'll get stronger and do things my own way". When/if he appears again, it should be as captain, or at least under a good one.
-
Is it me or Pearl was just there to beat Sanji up so that he could get his flashback?
-
Zeff's mention of Luffy's "spear" looks like Haki foreshadowing :P
And that's pretty much it. Looking forward to Arlong tomorrow.
-

@Kairouseki:

I saw that but I didn't think that Usopp was lying. This could very well be the case but if not there's another lie for the Chopper flashback.
If I didn't have only up to Volume 37, I'd SOOOO reread the series ;_____;
You're really lucky to have up to that point. Internet scans during and after Enies Lobby are way better than East Blue to Skypiea, though I believe the the chapters at the very beginning had large scans for some reason.
-
I´m behind still >.< I havnt finnished the baratie arc yet but I´m gonna finnish that and the arlong arc today.
-
LOL! Instead of Chabo or Chavo, the early scans name that kid "Sabo" instead. XD
-
now i exctually didnt mind pearl , he was somewhat funny
-
@ultimateclima:
I saw that but I didn't think that Usopp was lying. This could very well be the case but if not there's another lie for the Chopper flashback.
I like the idea that Usopp hates mushrooms because Jango nearly killed Kaya. Jango became a hypnotist by eating a mushroom.
So whenever Usopp see's mushrooms he recalls Jango trying to kill Kaya.
We never know XD Could be.
I also wonder if Jango perhaps…SOMEHOW found his way to Amazon Lily. What with the amount of mushrooms growing there haha.
But yeah. The scans I'm using are pretty poor. They don't even have the chapter covers on ;-;
-
I'm gonna do this, but I'm so swamped with work and school, so I'm watching the anime while I'm working on homework and the like, and it's going good so far.
I'm in the Kuro Arc right now, about to head into Baratie.
-
So I started my reread. For the last two days especially, I've been stuck waiting in places so I've turned to reading OP chapters. I got so into reading that I'm now just past chapter 200 when the Baroque Works is going to wind down and Luffy and Crocodile are in their 3rd fight. I didn't know rereading OP would go by this fast. I'm falling in love with Vivi all over again.
-
Finished re-reading the Arlong Arc. Too much awesomeness. I really enjoyed it all the way through. Gonna get myself up to the GrandLine and then call it a day.
I find it interesting how so early they mention two wars already. One Bellemere is in and another immediately after Arlong Park. I find it interesting how none of this is mentioned again.
EXCEPT. Tequila Wolf. We know that is in East Blue so would it be a huge stretch to imagine a huge chunk of these slaves are actually survivors of these wars against the World Government? (I'm assuming it's against them.) I'm sure it said something to that extent.
And I can't believe we saw Marineford so early in the series (At least I think it's Marineford.) and Brandnew (is this his name? I can't remember if it was changed. The scanlation isn't too grea in this one.) too.
Some other notes on my opinions in Loguetown.
Smoker was pretty bleh in the arc. Does nothing only to appear and be all 'I CAN CAPTURE YOU WITH SMOKE!' and does so.
Foreshadowing on Eneru. When the Lightning Bolt hits the execution stand Sanji asks Zoro if he 'believes in god'
Zoro gives a big speech about in a fight there is no man or woman. Yet during Skypiea when Eneru electricutes Robin he says 'She's a woman!'
-
Onwards to Arlong Park!
Going to collect my points about Baratie here:
! - Johnny and Yosaku. What in god's name are they doing these days? Not even a cover story!
! - I was wondering why in a pirate manga no one has seemed to suffer from scurvy but it seems the reason why is that Sanji is too good a cook for that.
! - LOOK AT THAT FLYING KICK. WHY THE HELL DID ZEFF GIVE UP FIGHTING?!
! - Sanji's introduction and the Fullbody jokes are hilarious.
! - Sanji's actually GOOD with women on Baratie rather than a total jibbering wreck
! - "Chef Zeff used to cook for a famous pirate". Did we ever see Roger's cook? Knowing One Piece it was PROBABLY him. It's always him.
! - Sanji getting the Zoro treatment from Luffy is hilarious. "Anyway, you should sail with me", "I decline", "I DECLINE YOUR DECLINATION"
! - Stuff with Gin and Sanji is actually pretty heartwarming. Shame Krieg comes in and exploits that.
! - Running into Mihawk in your first week on The Grand Line. Nice Cutting through a pompious man's collection of 50 ships like paper. Priceless. There is no way he could have gotten the Armada all up through Reverse Mountain so he MUST have used the Calm Belt entrance. Makes sense since most of the ships were ex-Marine ships
! - Mihawk and Zoro. As absolutely awesome as it is seeing this fight, watching Zoro get his ass handed to him, I cant help but feel the timing is fairly bad. He kind of turns up, says his piece, fights and leaves… right in the middle of a story arc. Definitely breaks up the story for a little too long
! - Pearl. Add's nothing, does nothing. What a waste of time. Get on with it!
! - Gin and Sanji's fight. It's quite easy to forget that Sanji doesn't actually win this fight. Not a bad one
! - Sanji flashback. If theres anything I think that doesn't really do the scene justice, its that you see Zeff hack off his own leg when you really shouldnt. Does ruin the shock all the more. Can't decide whats worse though, This or the anime? I'd say theyre fairly equal in terms of pure harshness
! - Poison gas bomb. Nice touch. Pretty brutal as a weapon for this early on
! - Interesting picures of Luffy on the final page of chapter 64 (page 43 of Viz volume 8) After he's been hit by Krieg's exploding axe we see Luffy look up covered in smoker and in the following panel below making his "gear" pose. Obviously theres nothing to this but its very interesting all the same
! - Ending of the battle. Nice touches. With broken ribs and everything though should Sanji be jumping in to save Luffy so easily?
! - On to Arlong Park and volume 8 marks the first mention of Jimbei, the second Warlord to be mentioned. Love the outline of the seven warlords. Didnt even try to make it look like any of them haha -
Wow…
This makes me remember there was 1 time when i was still in Uni, i did read OP from chapter 1 till the skypie part in 24+ hour. Thats about 200+ chapter. then 1 thing happen to me that i will never forgot, i can't close my eyelid the next morning. dang...
So to KAIOLINO, make sure u had eye moisturizer with you. GOOD LUCK MATE...
-
Sorry so late, got caught up in something.
My thoughts~
! Unluck’s Amazing 4-Week Long Reread of the Amazing Manga Series One Piece and Her Comments on Her Experience Doing So
Day 3: August 28: Baratie – 42 to 68
! * Luffy’s pirate flag is probably as good as I can draw. The only reason I can even draw a half-decent jolly roger is because of the step by step thing Oda made.- I think they should showcase Usopp’s artistic talents some more.
- I like the Going Merry’s galley. It looks very cozy.
- Men. Always resorting to violence when confusion happens.
- Although, I’d probably react the same way. Oh well.
- Okay, even I knew what scurvy was and how to treat it and I don’t live on the ocean.
- I’m not sure smoking immediately after recovering from scurvy is the smartest thing.
- Johnny raising his hand like a little boy in school and Zoro allowing him to speak was adorable.
- Okay, it’s kinda of ridiculous how much I want to go to a restaurant ship now.
- Woah. Totally didn’t realize that Buggy landed on Gaimon’s island. Haven’t read this cover story is a very long time.
- Hah. Fullbody.
- Even the Going Merry has a sweat drop at Luffy’s fail aiming.
- Oh, that guy on the right. Very cool tattoo. One Piece has always had very cool tattoos.
- Sanji using his head to carry one of the bowls of soup instead of using both hands is a nice touch.
- Oh my gosh. Totally forgot that Zeff actually got injured by the cannonball.
- If I lost a leg, I would want a nice prosthetic. But also a peg leg that I could use just to be awesome sometimes. Same with a hand and a hook.
- I want an apple.
- Okay, Patty’s faces in the mirror just reminded me of Disney villains for some reason.
- My brothers are watching Popeye in the other room. I can hear and it’s annoying. Totally not mood music for Baratie.
- Baratie. Dinner and a show.
- I like Gin. I wish he would show up again. I think he will.
- Just saw an ad for a Darth Vader costume for babies. I don’t have a baby, but I kinda want it.
- That guy has a scar shaped like a mustache. Awesome.
- Hah, Luffy gets an Oda box introducing him as a cooking servant.
- I swear, Luffy was doing as badly as possible so that Zeff would just kick him out.
- Pandaman.
- That whole thing with Luffy putting his snot in Zoro’s cup who then forces him to drink it while Nami and Usopp crack up in the back was brilliant.
- I really want to know where Sanji got his woman loving ways from. I don’t think it’s from Zeff. Or any of the other chefs.
- Gin seems to genuinely care for Kreig. Sad that it’s not mutual.
- Oh, nice save of the food by the Straw Hat crew.
- Woah. Totally didn’t know that Kreig used to be a Marine.
- Jeez, you would have thought that Kreig’s crew would have resorted to cannibalism by then. Just saying, the Donner party did it, I’m sure that pirates could too.
- “The diamond fist.” I’m surprised Nami didn’t try to steal that. Oh wait, I think she’s gone by now. She would probably try to steal Jozu if she saw him.
- Zeff is such a cool dude. I wonder if he made it to the New World. It would be cool if we heard more about him. Maybe he was a friend of Roger, like Crocus was.
- I really need to clean my room.
- Giant cutlery is always the best way to fight.
- Gin has a different Jolly Roger on his back than Kreig’s.
- Haha, “the drunk eyes.”
- “The only person who has the right to say I’m crazy is myself.” That’s pretty deep, Zoro.
- I like that you can see the structure of Kreig’s ship when it is cut.
- Mihawk just follows those Grand Line n00bs around and messes with them to “kill time.” He is a troll.
- And that guy really looks like Yasopp.
- Nami crying there is just super depressing.
- I really wish there was a Slip-Slip fruit in real life. I could use it.
- It’s very weird to see Mihawk and Zoro face off here in light of recent events.
- Oh wow, I’m getting really tired. Ugh.
- Alright, that fish looks stupid.
- I like the underwater view of the Baratie, it’s very cool.
- Just seeing Pearl makes me think of Tatum now.
- “His artificial wooden leg.” As opposed to his real wooden leg?
- The cruise ship has a wine bottle as its figure head. That is awesome.
- What kind of parents send a 9 year old kid to be chef trainee on a cruise ship?
- What. Pages are out of order. This is annoying.
- Zeff’s ship is also awesome.
- Sanji chewing on Zeff’s leg is creepy foreshadowing.
- Just reading this flashback makes me hungry.
- Poor Zeff misses his crew.
- I absolutely love that Luffy is reminded of Shanks during this and his speech to Sanji about it. I wonder if they ever talked about it later on.
- I like Gin’s tonfas. I want them. I can’t use them, but I want them.
- Using a cigarette as a weapon or a distraction is always smiled upon.
- Woah, that panel with Gin and blood dripping all over him and his weapon is very nice and creepy.
- Okay, I feel really bad for Gin now. He’s such a loyal and sad character.
- Punches straight into the cape of spikes. You are so badass, Luffy.
- “The ‘one spear’ that kid has” That seems like he is talking about haki, a little. I assume that Zeff knows about it.
- Great spread with Luffy destroying the armor.
- Hah, Sanji standing on those guy’s faces in the water is awesome.
- That is one giant band-aid.
- Gin said that he will see Luffy at the Grand Line. He has to show back up.
- I love how excited Sanji looks when he talks to Luffy about the All Blue. And I guess Zeff thinks that same thing.
- I have always loved Sanji’s goodbye scene. It’s really touching. I hope that old dude isn’t dead when the crew inevitably completes their dreams and goes to see their loved ones again.
-
Oh, uh. To be honest, I didn't think anyone was actually reading what I posted xDDD;
Here's the links http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6243909/1/Fruit_Smoothies and http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5398692/1/Warped
The first one is a series of interconnected drabbles and the second one is an epic length. Both are ongoing. Oh, and you may need to keep an open mind (pairing wise, and no, it's not all yaoi.) for the first and an open mind (to understand the sheer volume of what is going on) in the second.
Thanks for the links. Oh and the first one totally replaced my brain with scrambled eggs XD

@metteminne:
fanfiction , what did you expect?
Something less crap. But I could've known…
-
:ninja: i'm already at little garden … however i don't have time to read 20 chapters a day after i come home from work sooo~ gotta be prepared .. cough yosh! i can do that!
-
@Tijnn.:
Something less crap. But I could've known…
@metteminne:
fanfiction , what did you expect?
Well… close. You're only two letters off.
This should explain the concept:
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CrackFicIn all fairness, Unluck did put a warning…
Back to the topic:
1. Hm the story paces really move very quickly in the early chapters don't they?
2. I realize now that the reason I didn't really like Usopp was because of his initial character design. He really looks heck a lot better once Oda tweaked his look.
3. For bloodthirsty pirates, Jango and Kuro have some really weird un-violent principles...
4. !!!! Zoro asks for directions to beach... for some reason I find that hilarious...
5. Nami has supersonic hearing?!
6. I really miss seeing Zoro with bandanna on while fighting. He seems to do that less and less as the series goes on.
7. Hey wow! Sanji actually stood a chance with girls back in the Baratie! -
I'm starting today. Reading 20 chapters a day until I finish.
-
5. Nami has supersonic hearing?!
I found this one pretty funny. Nami manages to hear it yet a whole village manages to not. Forgive my Geography on the area but wasn't the village actually closer? XD
-
I found this one pretty funny. Nami manages to hear it yet a whole village manages to not. Forgive my Geography on the area but wasn't the village actually closer? XD
lol that is definitely a good point. Maybe they were all sleeping? /lame rationalization
Couple points that I remembered when reading thoughts about Baratie.
I wonder if Zeff knew Mihawk personally or just reads the newspapers and believes "rumors" since he was on the Grand Line? From the way he was talking about Mihawk, I could see this going either way.
And Fishman Island could be very important for Sanji's dream to find All Blue. It's never mentioned really in the story, but I always wondered if he dives into the ocean in the Grand Line to see if there is the All Blue there. I can't really imagine how Sanji would check otherwise. Maybe going underwater and talking to the Fishmen of the sea will help with that dream.
-
Going to do today's reading.. but it are pretty long..
..ah ah ah
-
@ultimateclima:
lol that is definitely a good point. Maybe they were all sleeping? /lame rationalization
That's actually very likely. Wasn't there a scene where the villagers were waking up late because Usopp wasn't there to be their alarm clock?
-
Just finished catching up, Arlong Park arc ends, wow I think I enjoyed this arc more then the first time I read it. :D I must admit Bellemere's actions close to the end made me a bit teary, I'm surprised that that's happened, I think it's cause I read it from my viz volume instead of online, like my first time. All of the crew shine in this arc, Ussop's has the most development I think. Well I'm eagerly awaiting tomorrow's schedule now, great stuff! :D
Oh and Fishman Island was mentioned so early in this manga, it's really surprising to see we still haven't reached it, it must have a lot of interesting things there! :D
-
Aaah, Arlong Park always, always gets me. I don't remember how often I've read/watched this arc, but it's still wonderful to read it once more. Haha, Genzo is great.
I actually read it yesterday and did some power reading today - so now I am currently at the end of Drum, haha. I knew I wouldn't be able to stick to the schedule. I tried, but failed.
-
Tears is still one of the best chapters in the series.
-
Tears is still one of the best chapters in the series.
Is tha the one where Bellemere gets shot? If so I agree.
-
Is tha the one where Bellemere gets shot? If so I agree.
The one where Nami stabs her tattoo and asks Luffy for help I think.
A good chapter but I wouldnt say the best
-
@Nia:

you're at the end of drum already?!!! and i thought i was way off with the schedule … giving the fact that i shouldn't have read till little garden ^^''' hahaha
you know it was an awesome idea rereading one piece .. _ guess i wouldn't have done it without all you guys, since it's well .. a bunchload of work. however it's like falling in love with this series all over again ...
-
I like the idea that Usopp hates mushrooms because Jango nearly killed Kaya. Jango became a hypnotist by eating a mushroom.

We never know XD Could be.
I also wonder if Jango perhaps…SOMEHOW found his way to Amazon Lily. What with the amount of mushrooms growing there haha.
This post made me remember my haki causes hypnosis thoughts. And after mulling it over, I think I'd be okay with it. Hypnosis is canon and haki is within everybody.
I'm still HOPING hypnosis is just hypnosis however. The only person I'm really looking for to have the answer is Lafitte. Jango and Miss Goldenweek do have "reasonable" answers given its shonen.
Didn't do today's reading. Too busy. Hopefully I'll catch up soon.
-
continued where I finished off yesterday.
Wow. I never realized we actually saw Yorki all those years ago. At least I think he was there when they left Laboon. There's a guy in cowboy hat etc
I also feel a lot more for Laboon this time around. Mainly because we now know that he's a lot more important than we thought.
I love how we are already just in the Grand Line and are being shown that Merry can't handle it.
-
Haven't gotten there yet, but it makes sense. Oda did want to introduce Brook's character sooner than he was able to.
Anyways, stopping for now at chapter 100, and I'll read the rest of the chapters later. Time to sleep. And I found it pretty hilarious that Usopp said that Zoro's wound from Mihawk should take over two years to heal. Let's hope he doesn't get too many new ones from Mihawk. XD
-
Re-Read Whiskey Peak. Gonna get up to chapter 120 before stopping.
Anywho. Some notes
-
Boring Arc overall. Especially compared to the Laboon mini-arc The chapters with Zoro running around and killing everyone just seemed to drag. One Chapter yes. But this is about half of the arc in total and just kills it. It's about this time initially when I realized that I find Zoro and his fights to just be boring.
-
I remember now why Miss Valentine continues to be one of my fave chars. Her and Mr. 5 were the first GL enemy to have a Devil Fruit and they are just showcased to be pwnsome. I love Miss Valentine's mannerisms too, getting upset that people ignoring her.
-
Mr. 5 too is pwnsome.
-
Robin is awesome as always. I love the foreshadowing that even the crew at this point aren't sure if she's good or bad. And also noted that Luffy's comments hint that Robin is alone in the world with the whole 'Who would want to see you?' line.
-
Personal Note. While they would have probably went that way anyways. Robin's involvement also indirectly led Chopper to join. If the crew had taken up on Robin's offer she'll have let them bypass Little Garden and thus Drum. Of course that's just my own personal opinion….
-
-
Comments for today's reading. Contains less material than usual for some reason.
! Unluck’s Amazing 4-Week Long Reread of the Amazing Manga Series One Piece and Her Comments on Her Experience Doing So
Day 4: August 29: Arlong – 69 to 95
! * “Before departure, some people called the Grand Line a ‘paradise.’” That’s very telling foreshadowing.- The silhouettes of the 7 Warlords are completely wrong.
- Oh hey, first mentioning of Jimbei, and they are already talking about Fishman Island.
- “Arlong is one of the pirates that are as strong as Jimbei.” Yeah, no.
- Do we know Nami’s birthparents? Maybe she is a mermaid somehow.
- Symbol of the Sun pirates.
- Arlong has the same thing on his ankles that Marco has on one of his legs.
- Hachi! I never would have expected him to come back.
- Nami’s official title is apparently “Chief of Staff” of Arlong Park. Wonder what the Viz translation is.
- Oh, never noticed that the tops of Arlong Park’s buildings have shark mouths on them. Awesome.
- One of those fishmen looks like a member of the Frank Family.
- Hah, this translation of the kid’s name is Sabo.
- I love Nojiko’s tattoos.
- Zoro, try not to provoke the fishmen. Oh, too late.
- I really like Genzo’s pinwheel hat.
- Zoro looks so boss in the chair.
- I can’t take Momoo seriously. It’s a giant sea cow.
- Damnit, just accidentally scratched my bug bite. Uuuuuugh.
- This part where Nami anticipates what Usopp is going to do really makes me think that she should end up getting Observation Haki.
- I think Nami has the same shoes as Marco.
- Ships seem to fly a lot in One Piece.
- Translation says that Kuroobi is a shark species. He is obviously a stingray.
- I would say that this is the start of Zoro’s and Sanji’s bickering.
- “Nami’s breasts are not small!” Well, comparatively…
- Nami is such a kleptomaniac, even as a little kid.
- I like Bellemare, she is such a cool marine and mom. She wanted to go after Shiki.
- That dress she made Nami is adorable.
- Damnit, she should have shot him before he bit it.
- Shot right in the head, I like this version better than the anime version.
- Luffy stopping Nami from stabbing herself is one of my favorite scenes of the series.
- The walk to Arlong Park, such a great scene.
- Luffy didn’t even know who Arlong was and he just walks in there. Going into a fight totally blind for a friend, it’s awesome.
- Oh wow, this is a super cool cover page. I want to see it in HD and colored.
- Seriously, I can’t put into words how much I love the fights at Arlong Park.
- Laaaaaag.
- How are they talking to each other underwater?
- There is a road sign. FOR JUSTICE.
- I like sleeping in hammocks.
- This is a great bit of Usopp character development.
- Yosaku’s pirate flags that he is cheering with are cute.
- Zoro’s wounds are so crazy.
- I wonder if Arlong eats humans. Or other fishman at that. He is a shark species fishman.
- Wow, hard to believe that Luffy is now the only person saving the entire East Blue from Arlong.
- So many great speeches in this arc, seriously.
- I love that they all think that Luffy is going to have some great idea, when really he just wears Arlong’s teeth.
- Alright, totally thought of the Jaws theme when I saw Arlong in the water.
- And the first sighting of Garp. I would have never thought of his importance here, ever. Oh, and hey Bogart.
- That is a very cool sword, I got to admit that.
- Love the scene in Nami’s room.
- “Second Person” the title of the chapter referring to Nami officially joining is such a great touch.
- Apparently, Zoro’s wound needs two years to repair. And now it is a 2 year time skip. With him with the person who gave him that wound. Huh.
- Is this the first viewing of a denden-mushi?
- Goodbye Johnny and Yosaku. I wonder where the hell you guys are now.
- That is a very impressive distance to jump.
- Awwww, Genzo is just so desperate to have Nami like him.
-
I think Nami has the same shoes as Marco.
That's what I thought when I first saw them, too. XD
Fabulous shoes. -
I'm a little behind you guys xD
Just finished Baratie now and noticed that Oda was already calling the first half of Grand Line "Paradise" back then :D
