Looks like a somewhat more detailed version of Way Of The Samurai 4.
Yakuza.

-
SEGA just pretty much killed the series in the West. They just took down all the non-Japanese official sites for the series and the CCO just announced they are NOT releasing Yakuza 5 overseas.
FUCK YOU SEGA. FUCK YOU IN YOUR TINY ASSES.
-
Okay Sega are now dead to me.
-
This doesn't surprise me why?

Rumor of Atlus possibly localizing Yakuza 5:
http://www.pushsquare.com/news/2014/02/rumour_theres_still_hope_for_a_western_release_of_yakuza_5
A couple of months old but I thought it would be worth posting about.
Btw, I've always thought about playing the games but I never got the chance to due to budget problems nor was I interested enough to save up for them. However, after watching playthroughs, I might reconsider. :)
-
Ryu ga Gotoku 0 announced for PS3 and PS4. No further details, but safe to say due to the title it'll be a prequel of some sorts.
This'll also bring the total of games we're not getting in the West in the series up to 5!

Wouldn't it be 6 counting the sequel to the PSP Ryu ga Gotoku game?

I was, but I somehow subtracted to 5. Guess I forgot to count 0.

TGS trailer!!
-
Features trailer!
So far, this game is looking freakin badass, especially because of Majima being playable! :)
-
Yeah too bad no one outside of Asia will see it.
-
It's bullshit that they're localizing it for a Chinese release but not an English one.
-
Well China is in the Asian market and Japan seems to like the China and South Korea when it comes to releasing games there that we often don't get.
-
They've been making excuses about not doing localizations outside of Japan because they're focusing on developing the games for the Japanese market, that was a reason they threw at people for not having an English release. Now they're doing a Chinese localization. Smell the bullshit here?
SEGA flatout refuses to release any more games of the series here, even with companies offering to do it for them.

It's obvious to anyone whose been paying attention Sega's been bleeding money particularly in the European and American markets and the Yakuza was unfortunate victim of circumstance. Though at the very least it didn't wind up like Valkyria Chronicles dead and buried after 3 games with America and Europe only getting the first and second game.
-
dude, no one in America buys Yakuza
NO ONE BUYS YAKUZA. THAT'S WHY THEY DON'T LOCALIZE IT
saying that they're just focusing on Japan is a polite excuse so that they don't have to say "because you don't fucking buy the games"
-
This series seems pretty popular to a lot of people outside of Japan so why has nobody done a fan translation of it? I don't think you'd be able to get subtitles into the actual game but having something to at least read along to would be better than nothing.

Been done. But reading a script alongside a game just isn't serviceable I think. Also America did fucking buy the games. SEGA said they were happy with sales of 3 and 4, but then Dead Souls shat the bed and they said "Fuck it." Dead Souls sucked, they were stupid to use it as a basis to stop releasing the games here. It isn't America's fault, it's SEGA.
-
"Happy with sales" can be pretty shaky in terms of the true meaning, and really it doesn't necessarily reflect how the company as a whole feels about it. When the series, even for Dead Souls, consistently sells with Japan making >70% of the sales, "Happy" just won't cut it for business decisions
-
I remember on a NeoGAF thread someone posted NFD (or whatever the acronym is) sales numbers for the series and the sales for 4, Dead Souls, and to a lesser extent 3 were all appallingly low, like barely-if-even-breaking-out-of-four-digits-low.
-
YEEEEEEEEES! Yakuza 5 is FINALLY getting a US release!! :D
-
You have no idea how hyped I am. Also someone uncovered the invitation sheet to the PlayStation Experience and has SEGA listed with Yakuza 5… and Yakuza 0! They didn't announce 0, but hopefully this means the series is making a come back. Sucks that we're not getting a physical release tho, just PSN.

Yakuza 0!? SWEET!
Anyway, at this point, a digital release is better than no release at all, despite myself wanting a physical release as well.
-
Yeah I want 0 more than 5 and Ishin.
-

Really? 5 is appearently the best in the series. Isshin I understand, but you'd rather the prequel that we know not much about yet versus the 5th installment that continues the story that is the confirmed strongest entry in the series?

I liked what I saw in Zero's pictures, and probably because I'm a bit worn out on sequels….not that I wouldn't give this a try.

I'm confused, how can one be worn out on sequels when the sequels tell new stories, introduce new characters, and improve the gameplay? Yakuza 5 is way different from the previous games. It has 5 main characters (one of them being brand new and another being Haruka which is a completely different kind of character to play as) each with their own story that eventually lead into another (like Yakuza 4+1), 5 different cities to explore and play in, and more modern gameplay. Zero will definitely use the new gameplay, but I can't understand why you would rather play a prequel because you… don't want to play a sequel.
-

I meant in general not specifically with Yakuza. And I never said I wouldn't play Yakuza 5, I said I was more intrested in Zero.
-
I can finally play as Haruka!
-
@All:
I can finally play as Haruka!
Hope you like weeaboo styled rhythm games!
-
Just 3 more days until Yakuza 0 is out! :D
In the meantime:
!

For anyone somewhat intrested Sega's doing a remake of the first game

I'm trying for the Yakuza 5 plat but damn it's driving me insane shit is actually hard. Last 1-2% of completion can be brutal(thank god I finished garbage pachinko though).
What screws me right now is the batting academic course needing 3 perfect runs and golf. After that I think the only real hurdle is Akiyama colosium. -
I'm about to polish off the remainder of 4.
-
I'm about to polish off the remainder of 4.
How is it going? Heard 4 or 2 is the general favorite for most.
I just finished up golf and only have to do 1 more run of academic batting srsly I swear all these timing based minigames made me develop shinada heat vision after all these failures all the success runs I have it feels like everything going slow mo.
–-------
I think I'm giving up Yakuza 5 plat is way too rough and srsly my P5 copy arrives like tomorrow.
I finished all the minigames besides fishing which is just a matter of patience.I started on the Ultimate battles and boy. I just lost it at the Shinada defeat everyone in 3 minutes only with weapon switch slashes.... I mean I love Yakuza but man there is toooooooooooooooooons of side stuff that is just poorly designed infuriating garbage. Let's not talk about the super poor balance when it comes to Akiyama(I love playing him but the challenges are so damn stupid with enemies having launch immunity, super guard, etc countering half his moveset)/Shinada(although Shinada is kind of fine) + many enemies being able to stunlock you into eternity for tons of damage just reminds me why fucking Dark Souls despite some jokes on how totally it's not a 100% fair is still the number 1 game that just feels right when it comes to its enemies.
-
How is it going? Heard 4 or 2 is the general favorite for most.
Was going fine until I found myself finishing the rest of Saejima's quests, which then led over to my trying to finish Akiyama's…....and I still have to finish Kiryu's behind that. It'll have to wait until I finish the remainder SMT4 And that's already becoming a damn chore.
-
Bump
It seems on top of getting Yakuza 0, We're also getting 6 and Kiwami….....well shit.
-
I'm in chapter 3 now after shaking of Nioh.
And gotta say the substories in this have been amazing so far. I feel pretty confident saying that Y0 will probably be the funniest game I'll play in 2017.
The humor just hits so well for me. -
http://www.siliconera.com/2017/08/24/yakuza-kiwami-2-ps4-leaked-will-made-using-yakuza-6-engine/
We probably won't be getting this for a least a year after release (if this is real and probably is given there were supposed to be some Yakuza news tommorow) but come on.
-
Hey there, have some news!
First, Yakuza 3, 4 and 5 are getting HD remakes:
But not the Kiwami treatment, however. Still, this means the whole main series is on the PS4, now.
Also, Hokuto Ga Gotoku is confirmed for the west under the name "Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise". And with dual language dubs, too!
Due October 2nd.
Also, a friendly reminder that Yakuza Kiwami 2 hits the west, August 28th.
Still not a lot of news about Shin Ryu Ga Gotoku, staring new protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga, however.
-
Just two days before we get our hands on Yakuza Kiwami 2. Are we going to discuss the game on this thread or will someone create a thread for Kiwami 2?
-
This thread has 8 pages for a game that has by my rough country 12 games including spin-offs and remakes that should tell you all you need to know about how much attention this series draws.
-
Which is a pity, as Kiwami 2 is VERY fun to play. Although I am bummed they removed some things like the Marietta and Adam mini-quests , and the Shinseicho area.
-
All right, so by now, Kiwami 2 is out. The Hokuto no Ken spin-off, Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise comes out in the states next month. And HD re-releases of 3, 4 and 5 are being made, 3 already out in Japan.
I'm sure you fellows know about Shin Ryu Ga Gotoku, but it turns out there's a spin-off being released called Project JUDGE:
This time, you're a PI instead of an ex-Yakuza or what have you.

Yakuza 7 Announced
https://kotaku.com/yakuza-7-announced-has-jrpg-battles-1837689271
-
I am not a huge fun of turn based combat, at all.
Wat a disappointing design decision.
@least there is a completely new area to explore and I how the side games also got an upgrade
-
I must admit I am quite….hesitant, about the gameplay change. If it had to change, a FFXV-style RPG I think would have been a better choice then the Persona-style they are going for.
BUT I will give it a try, all the same.
-
@Johnny:

Which would probably get them even more heat with the western segment of the fanbase than remastering Shadow The Hedgehog :S
-
So, first, the official English trailer:
Next, a trailer exploring more into the different aspects of the game:
And lastly, a video showing off the new combat system:

Can the Cat Fight Club return and not be simulated bullshit?
