Oh man… I'm more scared of what this one month break means. Oda has been drawing One Piece for almost 13 years and this has never happened before. Is it a bad sign that he's burning out or is it just beause he finished the first half and deserved a break.

I'm pretty sure this is an editor choice, it's a way to call for new readers who are no willing to start with a 13 years gap…..

@_@ Okay there are two side of me after hearing this news.
The first is somewhat understanding. Were entering new territory in the series with some big changes. And am sure Oda wants to get his thoughts together before taking the big plunge into Act 2. Ho-hum. Nothing wrong there.

This. Before a Pokemon movie ever comes out, the Japanese media wing of Nintendo really goes out of its way to advertise how much "research" the animators and producers went into making the movie - e.g., footage of their travels to Greece, etc.
Needless to say, none of that did a shred of good because all those movies are SHIT! Conversely, no copious amounts of "research" will do the same good for OP's quality that Oda's vibrant imagination does - it's just an aesthetic detail.

At first, I wasn't sure how'd I feel about One Piece having a significant timeskip, but now I'm kinda pumped to see how Oda will do a timeskip and what immediate changes we'll see after the break. Good thing the semester's about to start to keep me occupied. And maybe I'll try out some new series.
