hmmm typical ending to a fairy tail arc I liked the notion of behind the farewell though. Still think Mashima dropped the ball on some things.

! It's hard to really feel all that satisfied with this because of how underwhelming this arc has been, but now that the stuff with Mystogan is settled, now we'll be able to move on to more interesting, plot-relevant things, hopefully.
! Well, cool seeing Mystogan getting punched in the face, and hey, Panther Lily's coming to Earthland afterall…along with all the other cats,,,
I'm losing interest on Fairy Tail lately, to the point of not reading the translations any longer; I just look at the chinese raw pics and read what people talk about in forums. If they say "Holy Shit, best chapter ever!" Maybe I'll look at it more seriously, but I doubt it'll ever happen. . .
It's not complete garbage, and there are some good points, but it's just so. . .underwhelming. It's like Mashima is ok with the series being "a mediocre entertaining", and not going beyond this. There has been NOTHING epic, Natsu wins all the fights in 1 chapter and a half by Default Random Stupid Power-Up (the last power up being "we'll use tomorrow's magic source!!!" was the biggest amount of shit ever created by a human being), and there are like 30 or 40 underdeveloped secondary characters that are. . .there. They do nothing.
And, lastly, I'd like to know, why is the Oracion Seis considered the biggest crap ever? I mean. . .wasn't it EXACTLY like every other arc till date?? What was so diferent that made it the biggest shit in Fairy Tail history?

Ha ha, so true. Let's see how far we can get through the next one before disillusionment sets in.

what a stupid list. first off lucy losing clothes is like luffy stretching his body because of his devil fruit. It will ALWAYS happen.
There was no surprise dragon slayer this arc.
gerard shows up? well no shit, he started the arc and it was about him.
saying that we use natsu, lucy, gray and erza is like saying we use zoro, sanji, usopp, ect. They are a team, they will always be going.
there was no surprise boss, the king was always the last boss
and I could keep going, quit hating just to hate. people aren't giving you guys cookies for coming in and saying "fairy tail sucks" every week.
There technically was a surprise dragonslayer showing up: Gazille. He showed up out of nowhere, even though it wasn't that much of a surprise to most people.
what a stupid list. first off lucy losing clothes is like luffy stretching his body because of his devil fruit. It will ALWAYS happen.
So does the rest of the stuff on the list more or less. Doesn't invalidate it.
There was no surprise dragon slayer this arc.
Edo-Natsu counts. And if you want, Gazille too but he's somewhere else on the list.
gerard shows up? well no shit, he started the arc and it was about him.
Gerard has been unnecessarily ham-fisted into so many arcs, be they initiated by him or not, that he might as well be put on the list.
saying that we use natsu, lucy, gray and erza is like saying we use zoro, sanji, usopp, ect. They are a team, they will always be going.
The crew isn't part of a huge guild with a diversity of character and a huge potential of mixing it up. With that said Oda DOES constantly mix it up with other characters. Like team Prison break in Impel Down.
there was no surprise boss, the king was always the last boss
Super Dinosaur Mechazord wasn't.
Super-Dinosaur-Mecha was directly controlled by Faust, so he was still the final boss. And bizarro-Natsu wasn't a Dragon Slayer at all. He drove a car.
Fairy Tail sucks….......
Ohhhh a cookie, yay!!!!!!!!

Meh Surprise Boss, Boss in surprise form. Why split hairs? And there's still Gazille if you're not happy with Edo Natsu.
It's hardly splitting hairs. Faust was presented as the main villain in the beginning, and thanks to the downgrade of the Exceed, remained the villain up until the end when he was defeated. The means that he used to fight does not change anything.
Now, if he had been usurped in that position by someone else beforehand and the new character was the opponent for the final battle, like with Brain and Zero, that would have been a surprise final boss.

The bolded are reasons why the checklist exists in the first place. This manga is very cliche'd. So much so that the checklist is a self fulfilling prophecy of Mashima AND his readers.
Also, the surprise last boss and surprise Dragon Slayer (if you don't want to Gazille) is the Mech that at first was only damaged by Dragon Slayers, then ended up having Dragon Slayer magic itself.
Though "Lewd One Piece comparison" should definitely be added to that list. You could give it five spaces and it would be filled before the arc is half done.
Edit:
It's hardly splitting hairs. Faust was presented as the main villain in the beginning, and thanks to the downgrade of the Exceed, remained the villain up until the end when he was defeated.
Since we''re splitting hairs, the Exceed were looked at as the "final boss" since they were foreshadowed as the people controlling everything.
Now, if he had been usurped in that position by someone else beforehand and the new character was the opponent for the final battle, like with Brain and Zero, that would have been a surprise final boss.
If we're going by your logic for eliminating the Mech as the surprise last boss, then shouldn't Zero be eliminated too, since he's technically the same person as Brain?

Dude, I really don't care enough to make an effort over this dumb series to try and fit in details of a list.

Split personality with different goals and powers than the original =/= attack weapon controlled by the original.
Look, I don't think this is a series is that hot either, but I can tell a good argument from a bad one. I'm not arguing that this arc was great, it's full of weak storybuilding and wasted potential, but some of your reasons for filling out this list of yours are rather silly.
Well, it's been fun Fairy Tail topic. Last post here. I'm not a fan of baseless reasoning.
Personally I think if you re read the arc in its entirety it all runs together.
I don't see how the team of Natsu,Gray,Erza, and Lucy is a cliche when they are the main characters and have been for a while now.
Faust was always supposed to be the villain of this arc. The dragon mech isn't even using dragon slayer magic its literally just a dragon mech.
Gazille showing up was the surprise dragon slayer? I'm pretty sure he was already introduced over 100 chapters ago.
Oh but wait we didn't focus on Edo Tail we wanted to learn about Edo-tail…...-_-
As short as most arcs in Fairy Tail are I would think that focusing on characters that drive the story would be more important than going by what would be interesting for the sake of being interesting. I think they deserved the introductory chapter to show how they were different and nothing more.
In any case Pantherlily is back
Split personality with different goals and powers than the original =/= attack weapon controlled by the original.
C'mon, son.
The same person albeit different forms. We knew Faust gonna be taken down, but really…
Who expected him to pop up in a Mech T-rex with Dragon Slayer armor in the middle of a large scale fight like "HAY GUYZ!"
I think you're doing too much out of principle, but hey, if the extra unfilled box is worth it, by all means.
hmmm typical ending to a fairy tail arc I liked the notion of behind the farewell though. Still think Mashima dropped the ball on some things.
There's never been an arc in which Mashima didn't drop the ball in one way or another
how unfortunate,is he not your wishe to become one withe her, within the dragon god your mortal bodies will combine melting into one to manifest and created his core
A thing of utter and pure beauty
There's never been an arc in which Mashima didn't drop the ball in one way or another
Not true at all Galluna Island and the Phantom Lord arc were great and you never felt like Mashima was ignoring any part of the story and the Fighting Festival arc is probably the best arc in FT.
Tower of Paradise had a very good ending but the build up to it wasn't that great.
If him dropping the ball means ignoring minor characters in the guild to you then he would be guilty of that otherwise he knows how to plan his arcs out.
I wanna put the 3 rules of Fairy Tail in my sig whatever they are best part of this chapter.
@SSM:
The only thing I can remember fondly were the posts in this thread. Especially the ones talking about writing this arc over as a fanfiction.
That was my initiative . I'd like if someone would help though :ninja:

Fighting Festival was good until the last few chapters when Mashima dropped the ball, ironically ToP had the best build up of any arc thus far, it's quality has mixed reaction though

No, him dropping the ball has nothing to do with how he treats his side characters, him dropping the ball has to do with him getting bored halfway through and finishing an arc hatefully without any sort of build or correlation, same thing happened with Edoras, the last half was a complete wreck after he spend so much time world building in the first half.
Best part of this arc i think was Gazille's quest to find a kitty. Other than that i don't think i will remember any part of this arc when it is done.
I just couldn't take flying cats seriously…
I just couldn't take flying cats seriously…
as overlords of both worlds no less .
Even Hiro saw he was pushing it , aparently .
Posted the explanation a month ago, but if ya'll need to be refreshed…
Dragon Slayer: Giant dragon slayer-powered dragon robot
Erza: Erza stops Erza from going Erza all over the place
Deus ex: I think the biggest one is the random pill that lets people use their magic again, which will NEVER be explained.
Yup. All of these. Also, if you don't want to count the giant robot appearing as a dragon slayer, you could count Gazille's completely random re-appearance without any setup.
Erza being stopped by Erza is the most blatant example ever of being handicapped so that she can't deal with the final boss. Especially since she'd already beaten her once… off camera... and it ended in a draw.
Also in this case a big bout bs was "Oh, I'm out of magic. I'll just use tomorrow's supply." I'd actually forgotten the pills letting them cheat the no-magic rules. Thats a double count.
Nothing wrong with a hero finding a last minute reserve of energy or motivation, or borrowing power from an outside source. But to just go "Well, I'm done. Though I guess if I pretend its past midnight I can start fresh with more power" is just... ick.
That's like Sasuke being on his deathbed and out of chakra, summoning a giant snake, using the chakra draining sharingan, hypnotizing the snake, then de-teleporting levels of BS all while a nuke goes off 5 feet in front of him.
Unless there's to be a reveal that they are actually borrowing energy from their dragon fathers at all times, or there is an actual visible consequence where they are totally drained the next day, but I don't think its as in depth as that or that theres going to be any follow up.
The pills were idioticaly handled, but why you need the explanation of a pill? what components the rumble ball is made of? how does the yoma energy supreser works?
You need an explanation when its used to overcome a major plot point handicap (we can't use magic here!) that seems like its going to be a big deal for the duration of the arc… in the space of a single panel. No cost, no side effects, just... problem solved? "Oh, I happened to have these and should have given them to you earlier." Nope, that's BS. Thats the author introducing a plot point and then later deciding "You know what, this is too difficult to deal with. I'll just solve it right now."
Chopper suffers uncontrollable form shifts when he takes 2 rumble balls, and berserker giant mode at 3. There's a cost.
And the youma supression pills are created by the guys that are harnessing youma to make warriors in the first place, the development of that makes sense, and it hasn't been used to win a battle... just escape from them.
As for surprise last boss? Evil Erza, the cat people NOT being the badguys, or giant mecha dragon, take your pick. The king was never a physical threat before the dragon, his troops and Evil Erza were. His plan only needed to be stopped, there was never a point where he was going to be the last serious fight... until he was.
The series is okay. Best arc IMO is Phantom Lord. The current arc in the manga blows hard. Way too slow, Faust was some fodder. Disappointing. Then again, a lot of people don't like it because the character designs look fairly similar to our current big Three. Guess they do have a point in some way.
New episode came out. 3 chapters (with 3 pages of the next chapter) this time. Animation was pretty good this time.
It is fantastic series. I heart a lot about this series..
I've read the first 4 chapters and… yeah... it's not really impressive :pouty:

it gets worse
eventually it goes from being generic boring manga series to generic boring cringe-worthy terrible plothole-ridden manga series

Gerald fights like a pussy.
Wait… Did I say I was leaving this topic? Well, I just wanted to sat that.
In this topic, Hiroy keeps coming back.

Or just another 'clone'. =p
Hmmm… Since I'm here, I may as well share this. I been working on it ever since the whole perverted sandwich swallowing incident. Lost interest when Gerald and the Exceed Queen appeared.

I collection of OCC. Includes intercourse, innuendo, cockshots, cocks, rape, panty shots, rapefaces,Charlie being lesbian, ect, ect. All from this wonderful arc.
Next arc is rescue Gerard arc, it will be fun.
I'll be very…unsatisfied, if the next arc doesn't focus on the black dragon, since that's where the story was heading before everything got sucked up by out-of-left-field-mystic-suction-thingie.

You could probably get an entire sheet of this from just the Erza/Erza fight alone.
Sugarboy needs more screentime. Srsly

Rofl. Brilliant.
If only Cana were a main character, I'd fall in love with this series.
Who's Cana agian? The beer chick?
I don't even remember who that is.
Yeah the drinking chick who was offpaneled .
I like how when they first mention her, she's among the likes of Gray and Mirajane in importance.
Then we never actually see her fight.
That reminds me of the Bleach human characters.
I don't care about who fights or not. There are members that could do with more scenes than Gerald. I could make a compilation of every single Gerald panel, and then will get lost due to 95% of them looking exactly the same with the same 3 facial expressions and no dialog.
Oh, I circled my favorite parts. Pay attention to how some of them combine.

It's surprising to see Mistgun lose all that power, considering he was hyped as a top Fairy Tail mage for so long. Just like that, Natsu isn't just fighting him but actually holding back. Weird.
That said, this chapter was a nice end for what was a mess of an arc. The effort and emotion is there at least, for in this isolated chapter there's none of the stupidity that was prevalent earlier. Oh, and Mistgun is gone, but that's okay since there's an extra in the other world right?
