Chapter 594: "Message" Discussion

Nice find! Did you notice that? I was about to shrug it off as bad translations but it's even on Stephen's translation and on Viz's translation.
It's finds like this that really make me appreciate One Piece as a whole.
Grand Line was a paradise since chapter 69. Dang.
-
Again, I think you guys are taking that too literally. I don't think there's a connection.
The first scene is just Luffy pointing out (via Zeff) that maybe for the casual pirate and guy like Yosaku the Grand Line is a horror, to a truly brave adventurer it's paradise.
Whereas a reverse point is being made by that old ladyman thing, saying that The New World is so bad that people call the first part paradise, in comparison.
-
that means that it was for those a paradise who wanted to have some fun and not for those who actually could go against the top tiers.
now it`s definitely will be a "pirategrave". -

Stephen had Paradise in quotation marks. I wouldn't put it as just a coincidence that Paradise was used at two different points in the story to describe the Grand Line.
I'm not underestimating the first half of the Grand Line or anything. I'm just thinking Oda had the first half called "Paradise" all the way back then, even if that's an exaggeration.
-
Chapter 69 uses the Japanese term for paradise (rakuen) while the current chapter uses the English approximation (paradaisu), so I don't think they're connected.

Nevermind then. I stand corrected.
-
So wait, you're for some reason taking away WB's DF powers and Presence powers and yet letting Luffy keep his DF powers.
Bad post.
there is a difference. luffy's gear 3 just makes his bones bigger, it is still just human, it would be like him being a giant.
whitebeard is adding an earthquake to his punch, its an outside force beyond just pure physical strength. use your head to think a little
it would be different if luffy in gear 3 made his bones harder or something like making them diamond like jozu, but they are still just his normal body. its not like he put on spiked gloves, or a steel toed boot, it is still just 100% luffy, no added steel, diamond, earthquake, magma, ect.
-
So it's okay for a person who isn't a giant to have an arm the size of a giant but not for a man who has the power of an earthquake/strong haki and it's okay to then measure a punch from both and talk about how the guy who still has his abilities would have the stronger punch.
All that of course being baseless speculation for the sake of trying to reason why Luffy won't get physically stronger in the story and why he's strong enough for the NW.

Damn, and that was such a good find too. X_X
Edit: By Truth101 of course.

If he needs his powers to achieve what you are suggesting, then Whitebeard must also be allowed his powers as well.
Anyways it is kind of silly, of course Sanji, Zoro and Luffy are going to get physically stronger as they progress, but what is interesting to the reader is how they will develop aside from strength, which is essentially what you saying. If we look back at how each of the strawhats have gotten stronger it was not about pure brute strength but other stuff, like Zoro cutting steel, or moving his arms so quickly that he appears to be a demon, or Sanji heating hsi foot up so much it glows. All of that stuff is beyond brute strength, but they still continue to get stronger and tougher.
-
there is a difference. luffy's gear 3 just makes his bones bigger, it is still just human, it would be like him being a giant.
So you're saying Luffy's DF powers don't affect his physical stats and abilities in anyway.
Yep, bad post.
whitebeard is adding an earthquake to his punch, its an outside force beyond just pure physical strength.
Like Luffy's DF and the things it gives him.

Would Luffy's abilities and fighting style be the same if he had no DF or ate a different one (like say, Wapol's).
Luffy isn't Zoro, his DF gives him advantages that he exploits. Like Newgate.
-
So you're saying Luffy's DF powers don't enhance his physical stats in anyway.
Actually it's debatable how much Luffy's DF adds to his power, Ace's comment about it in the recent flashback suggests that it isn't that great when it comes to offense.
Still Luffy has developed his fighting style around the fact that he is a rubber man, and it took him 10 years to figure most of it out, which is too long when compared to the almost instantaneous power-ups other DF users have displayed. So, in summary I think that the fighting style is DF based, but the power is mostly Luffy.
Edit:
Excluding Luffy's Gear 2, it obviously adds to his power and speed -
I don't know if this has been brought up but…
!
If he's following whatever Rayleigh says, doesn't this prove that we're getting some sort of time for training before meeting back up at SA.
Sorry if this has already been posted.
-
Oh no, Rayleigh's words mean nothing about Luffy's current postion in the food chain.
What happened in SA was just a fluke.

who knows what he meant, but what i'm saying is that no amount of pushups will get luffy to whitebeard level

It means were getting some time off, most likely for training, but it doesn't tell how much is needed.
Personally I wish it means something other than training, it feels like cheating. No body is teaching the other SNs, but they'll most likely still get stronger (if they don't perish first).
-
But training can certainly decrease the odds of another SA incident or something similar occuring.
Especially considering how dangerous the NW is.

K, finally read the chapter in Japanese.
As was mentioned, Franky's line was just "I see."
Nami's line wasn't as harsh as the magnastream's translation.
She was more like Humph! There he goes again, without a care in the world of how we feel!
She's simply worried about him going about causing trouble again, when she was spending all this time worried about how he was holding up.
Rayleigh said there was one dull looking fella, but oh well, it'll all work out.
LOL Zoro. Also, the spelling of old ship where the Ox Bell comes from is probably "Ox Lloyd's" judging from the picture of Luffy ringing the bell.
-
thanks for the clarification, aohige

Thanks for the clarifications, Aohige, especially the part about Nami. The impression that the mangastream translation gave off regarding her "he's so selfish!" line made it seem as though the "message" was that the crew would delay its reunion, while after hearing your interpretation, it seems as though Nami was just frustrated with Luffy's audaciousness
-
Aohige, from your translation, it sounds like Franky's line was "naruhodo". In which case I simply can't see how "forsooth" came out of there.

Forsooth is just something everyone that has been blown to hell says

-
Woah, hold on there, JUS is awesome. Now that linking of the manga and game is another thing.
-
What if Foxy came back and filled Blackbeard's place as a warlord?
-
@ZeArmyOfHalen:
I doubt he's a faggot
16 characters of lol

Worse than continuing the gag and making Buggy a shichibukai.
I'm really hoping Oda cleaned house on purpose and for a reason; part of that dealing with the next 3 all being worthy and possibly exceed expectations.

what, are you suggesting that Buggy does NOT deserve to be atleast a warlord? The man staged a brilliant breakout of Impel Down, battled with all three admirals and escaped unscathed, mocked Shanks right to his face, he was on Roger's crew for goodness sake, the man is practically a shining golden god!
-
BUGGY SAMA!!!!!!!! no where are my fuckin spoilers….
-
Foxy as Shichibukai = worst idea ever. although I have to wonder what the point was with the whole Davy Back Fight. I loved that little arc, but I wonder how it could affect the main plot. all it really did was give us Afro Luffy, Zoro and Sanji working together and kicking ass, and it basically tested the crew's limits in a different kind of way. it was kind of a test of close their bonds are, interestingly right before the crew started breaking apart in W7. It would not surprise me to see Foxy again in the manga, except that he's incredibly weak and wouldn't last in the new world.
-
Foxy is probably the last person I ever want to see return. I'd rather see Woop Slap making a bid for the new Pirate King with Makino as his first mate and Dadan as the cook

Sarcasm aside, yes.

Aokiji.
It was also a nice comedic break between the very intense Skypeia and CP9 sagas.
I think further plot relevance will be revealed in time, though (Dorry and Broggy in Enies Lobby). -
Yeah Foxy was a great little arc of padding
-
im sorry if this was mention be4 i did not check the forum recently
