DBK's editing is terrible. Cutting out fight scenes, butchering Piccolo's death, Guldo's dissappearing head, Nail's dissapearing arm etc.
I now actually see how good FUNPiece was on CN.

Yeah but CN could probably get away with it seeing as it also has programming for not just Y7, i.e, older kid programs, plus adult swim (which OP was right next to as far as blocks went)… I'm pretty sure there's nothing over the TVPG rating on Nicktoons.
Also when watching Kai on that network blatent edits like that are to be expected, half of them don't even bother me because I already know whats going down. They're trying more to get a NEW generation interested in it, not so much appease the 20+ year-old crowd who watched it on Toonami years ago. Its been said too many times already, but if you don't like the network edits just watch the boxsets, they're uncut. So I'm pretty sure all decapitations are intact there.

Everything you said was fact, besides what is in italics/bolded. That is opinion, but "toning down Piccolo's death" is acceptable. Doesn't sound as biased, and is more politically correct.
The stance on editing for a wider audience on here is ridiculous some times. Butchering, ruining, destroying, and other terms are used when scenes are even remotely edited.
I'm assuming people who say that never watch movies on TV, because the editing ruins them. But then again, I've only every saw people complain about a TV version of something when it comes to Japanese cartoons.
Then it wouldn't get the T.V. audience it needs.
CN should have just aired it at 10 for older audiences.
@AMS:

But that's not what One Piece's general audience is for.

I thought it was for younger teenagers?
10 would have been a perfect time to air the show.

Everything in a quote is in italics to begin with, so what you tried to put in italics doesn't stand out, as everything is in italics. You could Bold it. That works.
I mean it ran until the end of Alabasta. It was terrible, but it must have had some decent ratings to get past 100 episodes.
I wouldn't exactly call them episodes, I would call them "things". They got past 100 things.
But seriously, we should stop posting here, I got my hopes up all high….
Wow, Quexinos and Dirt Monkey AL, haven't seen you guys in AGES......

One Piece is a children's show in Japan. But, by America's censorship standards, the content in the Japanese children show is not equal to content found in an American children's show. Therefore, by America's standards One Piece is not a children's show, but by Japan's standards it is a children's show.
my 7 year old little brother has loved one piece since he was 5. He hated 4kids and now i read the subbed episodes to him (with voices) and we watch the funi DVDs.

I guess I am way too old to be into the show then.
Still regardless of it's original intent I think it would be able to appeal to the same demo as DBZ which is young teenagers and up.
Also if you think America has bad censorship standards you should look at what they did to Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles in the UK. That is some silly changes.

Well, actually, DBZ has the same demographic as one piece. In Japan, One Piece, DBZ, Naruto and the like are all children shows. In Japan. By Japan's standards. Doesn't mean we can't enjoy it.

What did they do to TMNT in the UK?

What did they do to TMNT in the UK?
From Wikipedia
Upon TMNT's first arrival in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland, Austria, Germany, and some other countries in Europe, the name was changed to "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles" (or TMHT, for short), since local censorship policies deemed the word ninja to have excessively violent connotations for a children's program (in Ireland, however, the first season aired as "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" before changing to "Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles").[16] Consequently, everything related to the Turtles had to be renamed before being released in these nations (comic books, video games, toys, etc.) The lyrics were also changed, such as changing "Splinter taught them to be ninja teens" to the "Splinter taught them to be fighting teens."
The policies also had other effects, such as removing use of Michelangelo's nunchaku (which were at the time banned from appearing in 18-rated movies) and generally toning down the usage of all the turtles' weapons. After many seasons of never using his nunchaku, they eventually disappeared entirely, replaced by a turtle shell shaped grappling hook called the "Turtle Line".[[[/COLOR]Who would have ever thought that they would edit the Ninja turtles ](http://apforums.net/#cite_note-16)

I knew all this…but it's still appalling. How would....a grappling hook even work? Was the editing bad on that part?
How did they change the nunchaku into a grappling hook in the first place?
Wow. That's some horrendous censorship.

That's actually kinda nice
If I had a little bro of my own, I'd do the same thing
its really cool. He was raging yesterday because i told him there wasn't a new episode today :D

Lucky you. You have a brother that actually watches with you AND completely loves it on his own. My brother only watches it whenever I do so he's lost on a few things since I skip from episode to episode just to watch some of the better parts. Well I guess I'm to blame there too but eh. He thinks it's too long for him in the first place anyway. :getlost:
One Piece demographic on TV would be the same as Dragonball Z, 6-14 area. That's just the audience that the show is aimed at, and will get the most revenue from commercials and merchandise.
I mean, I'm 20 and I still watch it.

Somewhat related story, I have a brother who I convinced to sit down and check out some Anime with, he actually LIKED Death Note, and we watched the show till we ran out of dubbed eps (It was only like 5 episodes into the AS Run, so that was all that was available dubbed)
He wanted so badly to see the rest that he actually watched it subbed. Now he prefers some of the Japanese Voices, like he says he hates Misa's English VA in comparison to her Japanese.
Why can't I get them to do that with One Piece?!
We all hate Misa in my house (both in English and Japanese. We also hate the person who made the Misa Misa fruit that was published in a shonen jump.)
One Piece is a hard sell with people I don't know why. It took me about half way until season two (roughly around Chopper) to even get my sisters to like it.
@AMS:

I don't have a problem enjoying kids' cartoons. Most of Disney's catalog doesn't go past a G rating even by our stricter standards and it hardly keeps adults from enjoying the content. Though it is a bit unfair of a comparison as they know what rules they're playing by to get those rating over here.
But on the topic of the whole blood and mature themes on TV thing, sometimes people have flat out broken the letter of the rules and just stopped caring to allow in blood and the sexually suggestive. Robotech is a perfect example of this while also probably the most alluded to example of "butchery" or "rape".
@Mr.:
How did they change the nunchaku into a grappling hook in the first place?
Well they didn't!
They deleted all scenes from the episodes in which Mikey used his chucks - that's why many european children though Mikey was one of the lamest Turtles. Als they redubbed severel Scenes to omit the Word Ninja to be spoken. Also they included wacky sound effect like "Boings" or other looney tunes.
Later on the UK licensor went on to the US Production Team and convinct them to remove Mikey chucks and let him use another Weapon so that they have to cut less in later episodes. That's how he got the grappling Hook in Mid Season 4.
I can't see how the chucks can be seen to be more violent than katanas. Which can, you know, slice people in half. I mean, when my brother was 12 he had a pair of training nunchaku he would let me play with as a 7 year old. My mom didn't exactly approve of this but she didn't take them away or burn them–or give us a lecture that ninjas are bad-- as far as I know. And she KNEW it was all 'cause of the turtles, since the second and first movies were our favorite vhs tapes and we watched them ALL the time.

It was a lot easier for youngters to get nunchuks than a sword or a pair of sai's. So in a way it makes sense, those things are very dangerous.

As far as I know Ninja Movies and all releated Media were banned in the UK, also it was pretty easy for children to make Chuck themselves (bind two sticks together with a rope) but the children could easily harm themselves with these selvemade chucks (if the rope gets loose or if they thrwo one of the sticks into an eye or into another "Bodypart".
Also the first TMNT Movie from the 90s wasnt called "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - The Movie" in the UK is was simply called "Turtles".
Also a fun fact: The first Season of the Show wasn't shown in the UK until they started showing Season 4, they simply showed a 45 long "Movie" which was edited together from the first season!

That kind of works, cause if I remember right the first season of Ninja Turtles was like 5 epiodes long, with like 2 of them being "filler". By filler I mean didn't progress the story at all.
Ummm…could we discuss getting one piece on tv again?
Ummm…could we discuss getting one piece on tv again?
You want to re-discuss what's already been discussed 12 times over?
Nothing has changed since the last time we discussed getting One Piece on TV. What's different now?
-There's a new kids channel named The Hub and its already showing anime:Deltora Quest
-Nicktoons is now into anime.
-Cartoon Network….nah.They still suck ASS.
-As much as I dislike them…..Toonzai. Funi could make a Y7-FV cut for Toonzai.

All of which has been discussed to death.

That's pretty much been talked about already…
If Kai does well on Toonzai, One Piece will be next. I'm sure 4Kids'd like a second chance to make OP a success, escpecially now that they publically said they screwed up.
No, no one has talked about "The Hub".
Yes, we have…There's nothing worth discussing about it, but we have talked about it here a bunch of times.
Ok! I got it!
But I wonder one thing: If someone really does air one piece after all,Is Funi going to dub eps 1-143 from scratch?

Depending on the network they'd just redub certain lines.
No. Err I mean.
Is Funi going to rerun 4kids episodes? Or make a separate Y7 FV/PG dub?
No. Err I mean.
Is Funi going to rerun 4kids episodes? Or make a separate Y7 FV/PG dub?
LOL I hope this isn't a serious question regarding the 4kids episodes. Funi would NEVER do that. They know the OP fans they are selling their dvd's to would have a fit. That would ruin their cred regarding OP, so I can say with 110% certainty that wouldn't happen.
So they are going to dub those episodes again?
They would only need to rewrite and re-record the lines deemed too much to be aired, not the entire episode.
So they are going to dub those episodes again?
No, only certain lines depending on the network and obviously it's not happening now we're just talking hypothetical.
So they are going to dub those episodes again?
They already have those episodes dubbed. Or have you forgotten about Season 1 First Voyage-Season 2 Seventh Voyage?
They just have to go in and change a few lines like they're doing for the Skypiea sets.
hey guys check this out if you want "One Piece" on T.V.
An online petition? You know those go nowhere.
The best chance would probably be to actually contact them, but I don't know what good that would do either.
Best of luck with that, though.

Well that's why we provided addresses for the different networks on the site. If you don't want to sign the petition you can write a letter as well, I know I will.
It wouldn't hurt to try. I'll make a letter this weekend.
