Fantastic chapter, truly brilliant.
But 2 things really, really made this chapter for me.
1.
Nuff' said. Just look at him.
2. Sanji. Seeing him coughing up blood because of the wanted poster had me in tears.
Seriously, I nearly died.
Chapter 593: "News" Discussion

-
perhaps, but he told me it was a mistranslation a few hours ago and I don't speak japanese so yes, I believe him
I don't speak japanese as well I have to add. But reliable posters said this… and I believe them more than scanlations/translations who often are wrong cuz they are rushed.
Don't forget the epic failure... Kuma doesn't know where he sends the people
BUT
"Why again" comes from Aohige... So maybe it is really true... We may ask him^^
-
A good signature you've got there, Kishido.
-
indeed, it makes a world of difference in speculating what luffy might have done but we'll find out anyway in a few chapters if it is something that already happened once. But I do remember Ivankov saying something like that what he's done is unprecedented and that it runs in the family or something
EDIT: He seems to have said, after talking about the paper with dragon that he is as unprecedented as his father apparently. So my guess is Chopper didn't say "not again" because if it was AGAIN than it would automatically make it precedented.

Thank you… it's only the truth! I'm glad Sanji himself said, he will never use a dress ala Okama once again!
That should bring the alter ego okama Sanji discussion to an end.
We already have an SH with an alter ego

Cannot even begin to express how happy I am to have him back to normal again.
-
To be more precise, what I recall Aohige saying was that the phrase Chopper said literally means "What, again?" but that it's an idiomatic phrase that is often used to mean "What now?" Was that here or in the spoiler thread–maybe we can search and just c&p that post.

you do realize that some of the more outspoken anti-gay people or the MACHO man a lot of times ends up actually being gay.
while i'm not going to argue at all that this is sanji, just saying
-
Eh, I'd hardly call Sanji macho, anyway.

Or It Could Just Be Simpler

It could also just mean Chopper is surprised to see Luffy in the newspaper yet again and may not be specific to what the story is about.
Meh, Oda did all of this on purpose for this very reason…and that's why we love him.
-
Eh, I'd hardly call Sanji macho, anyway.
ha was just bringing up his whole "i am a man among men who loves the ladies"
you know the typical in total denial scenerio where all the friends are like "yea sure you are" knowing full well he is gay, he just can't admit it. is afraid of being accepted and friends still like him if they learn he is gay, so he becomes a womanizer to try and show they are as ungay as they come

People seem to make this mixup every 2 pages or so :ninja:

Just finished reading it.
A lot I liked about it. Like the mind reading Snail phones but most importantly…
Shcibukai Buggy!!! Woot!! I really hope that's what the letter says
-
@I:
Sure she can. Unless the WG wants them, like during the war, it's clear that the Shikibukai jsut go on about their business as if nothing has changed even after gaining the title.
Which reminds me–why are they called "Royal" Shichibukai? Aohige, if you are around and/or you search this out, is that translation of the name accurate? I haven't seen any monarchs (yet). The closest we get are the 5 elder stars. Is it just something to add majesty to the title?
Yes the translation is correct.
Of course since the Shichibukai is under the order of the WG, which is linage of the 12 kings, the title may be referring to that fact. -
so what if kuma is not an ally? and they have to flee with the ship.
they just going to keep fleeing to different spots in shabondy until god knows when the strawhats all come back finally?
Kuma is not an ally. And even if he is an ally, they won't have to keep fleeing if they keep a low enough profile.
I didn't spend a lot of time to thinking and writing about it, it just came out because it made most sense
Anyway, problem I see with Shakky is that she is sweating when she saw Kuma. That means she didn't know Kuma was coming and doesn't know if she can take him if he turns out hostile.
If Kuma is an ally of Rayleigh and Shakky didn't know about him/it coming, then obviously Shakky doesn't know the full extent of the Rayleighs plan.
Kuma is not an ally as the manga has already stated and shown. Besides, even if he still were, that does not mean that Shakky does not know the full extend of Rayleigh's plan; it just means that Kuma was never included in it.
If Kuma is hostile then Strawhats are about to lose their ship, because like I said, Shakky was sweating. There is no-one present who can take on Kuma.
Well, for one thing, it's possible that Shakky could take on Kuma. The fact that she was sweating doesn't mean she can't. Second, it's possible there are other strong pirates located on SA still that could help out the strawhats (friends of Shakky perhaps?). Also, if what I believe to be happening is happening, then Luffy, Jimbei, and Rayleigh aren't very far from SA right now. If that's the case, they could always be the ones who save Sahkky and co and Luffy's ship from Kuma.
-
Oh my, I LOVED this chapter so much! So many god old faces and some new really interesting ones, like Dragon and his army appearing for more than three frames…
Can't wait to see where this goes and 'what' exactly Luffy did...what was the stunt? Why did Vivi called it 'not stylish' and what did luffy bring into 'her room'? How will they defend thousand sunny against 'kuma' (replica?).
Hope we will get to know in the nest couple of chapters.
Now we finall gotten a good look at Dragon I can say I really like his features, the face has a unique look. Would be awesome if Robin gets to meet him :3Doees anyone else feel like we really have passed the mid-way part of OP now and gotten into a kind of beginning where all these new mysterious treads will be explored and connected? Still I don't know if these actions would finally lead to finding the one piece, though it could definitely make luffy the new pirate king :3
-
Vivi is talking specifically of Luffy's manner of dress. おしゃれ (oshare) means someone who's smartly dressed, fashion sensible, or stylish. It's not another word for a fad or whatever else people are extrapolating from Vivi's words. So Vivi saying おしゃれ? would be her asking "Is it for fashion?"
So Vivi is talking about the way Luffy looks. I'm imagining that it is something that was done out of necessity as Luffy is NOT a fashion conscious individual. I'd like to think it's my sig come true…
EDIT
That's odd. I had a quote from someone on here. Looks like I'm going to have to go fishing through a million pages... UGH. -
Maybe it's the new clothes Marguerite made for him.
-

LOL your sig is pretty nice.
And thank for the clarification about the meaning of the words Vivi used. That indeed makes the whole thing even more confusing. (FTR, though–I don't think Vivi would be confused about it and dismissing her first impression if it was a wedding portrait she was viewing.)
-
God, this chapter got me so excited and gave me butterflies. A One Piece chapter hasn't done that for a loooong time. I thought the whole Impel Down/Marinefold arcs were pretty uninspired and dull, but it looks like their events are making some pretty awesome things happen.

Good chapter, im just confused a bit about the robin part and revolutionaires.
-
Has anyone suggested that Luffy may be covering his unhealed wounds with different "fashionable" clothing? Imagine his crew seeing a picture of Luffy right now covered in bandages? They may be more inclined to leave their destination to where he is. Luffy probably wants them to think the opposite at the moment. Luffy is their captain. It's his responsibility to protect them from now on. It's understandable that they all care and want to be there for Luffy, but as Shanks stated, Luffy needs to get over this hard period and stand tall. Taller than ever before. I think this stunt of his, knocks two birds with one stone. He's telling his crew he's alright, and at the same time, proving to the world that he's not going to give up. Something to help his emotional state.
-
Yes the translation is correct.

Hmmm. Very interesting. (Oops, forgot the new board meme) Derp–and I like it.
It does make a certain amount of sense if he also sending some sort of message to the crew to not panic, and not rush to him so they can be safer...
Nice call Mr. French

Good chapter, im just confused a bit about the robin part and revolutionaires.
What are you confused about?
-
Kuma is up to something
-
I have a theory about all this and no one has talked about it until now.
Luffy and Jimbe have become a type of superheroes like Usopp did with Sogeking but with an huge difference between the Usopp character and them, this huge difference is that they have freed a kingdom controled by an evil pirate and after this they have done propaganda about their actions.
They have promised in their propaganda to help all the countries that require their help against the evil pirates that destroy the islands, in other words, Luffy has become a type of Shichibukai but without being one officially and his popularity will grow fast around the world until the WG won't have any other option to make him an Ouka Shichibukai since he will be feared by a lot of pirates around the first half of the Grand Line.
In other words, Rayleigh plan is very similar to the first part of Kurohige plan, he knows that some position of the Ouka Shichibukai has been vacant and he knows that defeating some powerful and feared pirate that terrorizes an entire island or group of islands will give points to Luffy for the appointment, now add the fact that Hancock will propose him for the position and then they will win the protection that they need for regroup in Shabondy.
-
Really I can't see Luffy begin a shichibukai. It won't make sense because he's the son of DRAGON. WG would never invite him because of this sole reason.
-
Luffy has declared, over and over, that his dream is to live freer than anyone. How does taking on the responsiblity of caring for any territory allow him to move in that direction, never mind becoming s "dog of the gov't" as the shichibukai are?
-

That's really streched… The WG invite Luffy to join the Shichibukai? After all that has been said in the Marineford arc about how great danger Luffy will turn out to the WG in the future (and he already punched a world noble, and fucked up Impel Down and Enies Lobies), how can they give him privileges?
And how will he be more respected/feared...? He is already on the top food chain of Grand Line 1st half as a Supernova, and everyone knows him.
-
Luffy wouldn't be offered the position. He declared war on the WG. Other pirates just kinda do what they want and try and get away with it. Luffy wouldn't work alongside the WG by any means, and the WG wouldn't want him too because of what he's done.
-
So three weeks have already passed since the war?

For those of you who missed my take, I'll repost it
! What was the "news" about Luffy all those characters kept reading about? Here's what we know.
! FACTS:
! 1. It was Rayleigh's "plan" that would allow Luffy access to SA without as much of a risk to himself and his crew. The initial interpretation of this proposal was simply that Luffy had to get stronger. But there are other options (or combinations of options).
! 2. The world knowing about it (through the "news") is a part of the plan (we find this out from the revolutionaries + Crocodile). In other words, Rayleigh was counting on the fact that this huge "incident" would be picked up by the newspapers.
! 3. Chopper's reaction tells us it's something outrageous, and his words can be translated as either "why again!!?" or "what now!!?"
! 4. Sanji's reaction is that of surprise.
! 5. Robin's reaction is that of amusement.
! 6. A revolutionary described it as a "big incident."
! 7. Iva-san's reaction was that of surprise and said that Luffy's actions reminded him of Dragon's antics.
! 8. Vivi asked, "is it for fashion? no it can't be… it's Luffy after all"
! 9. Croc's reaction to it was "Right after getting their lives saved...just what are these idiots thinking? They must be planning something. If not, they've gone mad."
! 10. Daz bones reaction: "strawboy is wounded. Do wounds disappear that easily?"
! Oda did a great job of telling us a lot whilst telling us nothing at all.
! ANALYSIS:
! From Crocodile's and Daz's reactions (9 & 10), we can conclude that whatever Luffy was reported doing (or having done) in the paper was extremely dangerous and would require a healthy Luffy. We know that it has been 3 weeks since the WB war ended and one week since we last saw Luffy with Rayleigh. That means they have had 1 week to carry out their "plan." We know that Trafalgar Law told Rayleigh that Luffy would have to stay put for another two weeks in order to heal. This leaves us with two options (that I can think of):
! 1. Luffy did in fact do something outrageously dangerous, and he healed in half the time,
! or
! 2. Luffy has not done anything outrageously dangerous, but it was just reported that he did.
! Fact #2, along with Law's warning about Luffy's health, leads me to believe that analysis option #2 is more likely.
! But whichever one it is, the purpose is ultimately the same: to allow Luffy an opportunity to meet up with his crew and continue on his journey without having to go through the same problems he and his crew encountered on SA (namely admirals, Pacifista, general marine/WG involvement). Remember, the world government and marines know what happened to the strawhats – that they were sent flying by Kuma to distant lands (even if they don't know specifically what lands they were). This was part of (if not entirely) the reason why Kuma was altered by Dr. Vegapunk in the first place. That being said, the WG and marines know that the Thousand Sunny is harbored on SA, and they may be waiting for Luffy and his crew to return to their ship unless….
! Luffy is off (or at least reported to be) causing mayhem to some WG island that would cause the WG to shift its attention away from SA and towards another island or area on the seas. This is also supported by Iva's statement (7) about the similarities to Dragon, who no doubt constantly fought against (and continues to fight against) the WG. This is also supported by the revolutionary, who called what Luffy has been reported as doing a "big incident" (6).
! THEORY:
! AL is technically a government-allied island, as it it home to the royal shichibukai, Boa Hancock. I believe that it was reported in the news that Luffy declared an attack on Kuja Island and its princess Hebihime. This is not to say that it was announced Luffy necessarily "took over" the island, but instead that he was launching a powerful attack with the help of Jimbei and other allies. Thus, it would not seem unreasonable or make Hancock look weak if she called out to the WG for help/backup against the powerful enemies. An attack on Boa and her island is technically a call to war against the WG and marines. This would explain a number of comments and reactions from people we've seen (3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10).
! * It would explain #3 because it is an outrageous thing to do, and technically it would be waging war against the WG "again" and targeting another shichibukai "again."
! * It would explain #4 because it is surprising.
! * It would explain #6 because it is a big incident.
! * It explains #7 because Iva would be surprised and such an action would remind him of Dragon, who likes to fight against the WG.
! * It explains #9 because, as Crocodile seems to think, whatever it is Luffy was reported as doing is something really stupid for a rookie like him. Declaring war against a WG island would fit that bill.
! * And it would explain #10 because, like #9, Luffy would need to be healthy or at least not "wounded" to be in a position to actually make such an action possible.
! That leaves Robin and Vivi.
! Robin could be amused for any number of reasons. She may think the picture of Luffy is funny. I personally think that she is amused because threatening an entire island controlled by a shichibukai with deep connections to the WG is such a strange thing to do (I can imagine it accompanied by a picture of Luffy with a really serious face), and it sort of brings back those weird memories of her ridiculous captain.
! As for Vivi, I think people are reading too much into this. I don't think her reaction is as important to the content of the article as some of the other reactions. But her reaction could be based on a couple of things. It could be something as simple as the photo of Luffy having him wearing some new AL clothes (possibly with frills?). But here's what I honestly think: Vivi's words can be interpreted as pondering whether Luffy's actions were based on "fashion," "style," or general outward appearances. But then she says to herself "no it can't be, it's Luffy after all." Vivi knows Luffy, and Luffy usually never does anything for purposes of looks, fashion, style, or any form of outward appearance; that's just not the kind of man he is. But her facial expression and confusion belie what she's saying to herself; it's as if she can't believe what she's reading and is attempting to convince herself that it is something Luffy would do and not simply something for style or appearance's sake.
! But of course it is for appearance's sake, as it will give Luffy time to reach SA without the government's tail and with limited interference. He may already be near or approaching SA with Jimbei (and Rayleigh?) since it's been a whole week. Meanwhile, the government is notified of strawhat's (and his allies') attack on Kuja kingdom (with a pretend photo–possibly funny/stylish--taken as evidence). Therefore, the government disregards SA as the place where the strawhats will be and focuses on Kuja Kingdom. By the time marine reinforcements arrive, Boa will simply claim that Luffy and company escaped by stealing a ship after causing massive damage and stealing some treasure. Of course, she will tell the government they went in a direction away from SA. This will ensure Boa keeps her title as Shichibukai as well, since she fought off Luffy.
! The strongest argument I have seen against this is that Sengoku is an extremely intelligent commander of his forces, and he wouldn't send all the marines to Kuja island. Of course, I don't mean to say that he will do anything of the sort – only that Luffy's "incident" will shift the focus of the world government's attention from SA to AL, giving Luffy just enough time and leeway to enter SA, meet up with his crew, and escape from SA unscathed. Nor do I think that Sengoku won't send backup to SA just in case Luffy happens to show up. Hence why the new "mindless" Bartholomew Kuma has shown himself on SA as we speak.
! Obviously, Oda could pretty much do anything, but currently I believe this to be the likeliest scenario.
! Thoughts? -
Luffy revealed himself as a World Nobel from goa kingdom.. thats why the relationship between garp and dragon(because on the flashback dragon hinted that his from the Goa kingdom aswell might even be the highest noble in Goa Kingdom aswell) is mention aswell.. and probably in the poster Luffy is wearing something like a fashionable dress for nobles… LOL
-
I will make it easy for all of you to predict what Luffy did based on the actual information we have, its something :
*Luffy and Jinbei did together. (Croc made a hint)
*that didn't happens in SA. (Duval is still protecting the ship, so lufy didn't take it back)
*That is not so violant, i mean not like he killed someone (Judging from Vivi and robin reaction)
*That has happened before (Chopper Comment "why again") -
THEORY ON WHAT LUFFY DID:
He found out where the celestial dragons lived and punched em all.
…maybe this goes in the dumb predictions thread....
-
He declared war on the government.
-
captain buggy for shichibukai!!
-
He declared war on the government.
Hahahaha that would make sense, except the government already claimed he did back in volume 45 and during the Enies Lobby Incident…man Luffy just has all kinds of past offenses
-

Meaning it does not necessarily need to be something that Luffy has done before. This is just what Brennen told me, so it's just second hand info. Third hand possibly, since I'm not sure Brennen knows japanese.
-
@Robo:

No it's from the horse's mouth–Aohige came on and clarified that translation for us some time back. The Japanese phrase in question literally means "What, again?" but is used in modern parlance as an idiomatic expression that can mean, when used, "Now what?"
-
Besides all the annoying "references" to what Luffy did, this was a fabulous chapter.
Disappeared after the war, but then reappeared and pulled off that big stunt
So is the bridge the Celestial Dragons are forcing people to build, just a way to keep hands from becoming idle and punishment or is there some other reason they are building it?
Anybody else get tired of all the references to what Luffy did?
So, Dragon thinks the "structure" of the Government will change. I'm not sure why the structure of the Government will change. No major marine was killed and the marines accomplished their objective.
I loved seeing Hatchan and Keimi talk about what they plan to do when they go to Fishman Island. I am in the minority but I still think Keimi could be the next crew member.
So it looks like Kuma is going to end up being the "final" boss of Saboady Archipelogo? Looks like Kuma will be the first person Luffy gets to demonstrate his new Haki abilities on.
Oda is definitely not done fleshing out Crocodile's character. It will be interesting to see what role he will play in the New World.
Chapter ends on a pretty decent cliffhanger, I wonder what the Government want's with Buggy.
-
Kumabot being already here is bad news. I don't think he is after Luffy & Co, but after the real Kuma: the WG must have understood what's happening, they have realized that Kuma betrayed them, and they are now tracking him. They will want to know why he came here.
Shakky may be able to deal with Kumabot, but others will arrive, so the SH have to hurry or Duval will have to move the ship quickly…He's holding his bible. It's not a pacifista.
-

while i'm not going to argue at all that this is sanji, just saying
you do realize that Sanji is not a real human being right? We can hardly try to psychoanalyze him.
-
Not sure what Luffy has done.
My only question is, is it something that he has done on Saboady Archipelago?
I don't think it is something he did on Amazon Lilly because nobody would know about it.
If it was something he did on Saboady Archipelago, it wouldn't make sense because he would just draw attention to himself, his ship and his crew mates trying to reach him.
It would be interesting if the big news is that he got married to the Empress of Amazon Lilly.
I honestly cannot begin to speculate what he has done because the last time we saw him, he was in a very isolated area. Maybe what Rayleigh had in mind wasn't training but something entirely different.
I hope Luffy didn't return to Marineford lol.

! Thoughts? This is a very well thought out and plausible theory.

Buggy is not gonna become a Warlord of the sea. Even if he conviced some pirates hes powerful. The Goverment knows hes weak. If anything his bounty will be raised.

Thank you

The government doesn't send personal messages when they raise someone's bounty. That sort of thing is simply reported in the news. They do, however, send out "personal invitiations" to join the royal shichibukai, which it looks like Buggy got.
Even if the Government knows he's not powerful, that's not really that important. He is seen as powerful by everyone (except for the select few who know his true strength), not just "some pirates." The WG can use his stature to both strike fear into other pirates who may think of opposing the government and to fill a vacant spot in a much needed position for the government.

Its not a bounty. Its a letter. From the WG. They don't care if he's weak. He's suppose to scare the would be pirates and take out the rookies. His crew is powerful enough to fulfill that much.

If Buggy becomes a Shichibukai, Mr.3 will be the only guy in the OP world who has been the underling of two different Shichis. :ninja:
