Well for all we know they'll keep him. To me it sounded like Funi was just keeping their options open. Just throw this one in the rumor bucket cause it can go one way or the other :P
Funimation dvd discussion II ( UPDATED 8/4/12, FIRST POST FOR F.A.Q)

So I had the chance to speak with my voice actor friend this weekend (though I wish it were under better circumstances because it was at a funeral). He told me that right now it's unsure if Patrick Seitz will be playing Franky in Water 7. Specifically, he said "Right now it's considered an open role; they're having several people try lines for him."
So this is isn't big news, and there might not even be a change, but I suppose this is good news for those of you who hate Franky's voice :P
That funny, because as far as the blog people know, Patrick is Franky. They listed it under his roles in the Hetalia announcement:
http://blog.funimation.com/2010/07/hetalia-cast-announcement-deutschland-deutschland-germany/
-
Didn't FUNimation have to get Toei's approval for all of the roles in Unlimited Adventure? Changing the voice actor for Mr. 2 is one thing, but changing the voice of Franky, a Straw Hat, is quite another. I don't think Toei would allow anyone other than Patrick Seitz to be Franky unless Patrick personally refused to do the role, or somehow became incapable of doing so.

True, I'd bet Patrick is still doing the role. In any case we'll ask him at Otakon.
-
I'll still be hopeful. Out of all the Straw Hats, Seitz has obviously had the biggest gap in recording for his character since the start, so I was really looking forward to hearing how he would improve. Although I will admit that having a different voice actor in the game and keeping a new one in the anime would be very easy (since they wouldn't have to rerecord anything in the anime, as it would all be considered new dialogue). I didn't even know Mike McFarland recorded for Mr. 2 because I never got the game, and I consider that recasting a huge improvement.
-
We'll have to wait and see then… S3V3 will probably be released on October 26th and S3V4 on December 21st.
If Season 3 won't end with the G8 filler arc, then there will only be four voyages in Season 3, and we will all succumb to confusion on how will FUNi work with the upcoming episodes. Whether we'll receive the widescreen versions or cropped, and how will they work it out on the first voyage of Season 4.

Yeah I saw this too (embarrassed), and I don't think Funi would list what was just a video game role from years ago. To me it seems Funi is still behind him for playing Franky, and I for one would like that very much.
-
Although, there have been a lot of people complaining about Seitz's Franky for some reason. It's not bad at all, it just doesn't sound like the Japanese voice, which is considered blasphemy for some people.
@Zach:

When is Otakon, anyway?
-
I'm fine with Patrick's performance as Franky so far, considering we've only seen him in the Wii game. There wasn't a whole lot of room for him to flesh the character out there.
My only suggestion to him would be to sound just a little more… eccentric.

July 30th through August 1st. If Otakon responds with press passes, we're going to definitely try to interview Mr. Seitz.

Spoonybard, your ava is maybe the single case in my near-decade of fandom where I almost wish Oda used a user-created image rather than his own design.

I can't really say if I'm disappointed or not, but i kind of think it's unfair i only heard him in the game so Seitz didn't really get a chance to get into character and i was kind of looking forward to seeing how he would do in show, i can't really think of any other person who could do franky, we'll just have to wait and see

:wassat: talk about bittersweet, i hope FUNI just decides to go on ahead and but the G8 filler arc in Season 3, it makes better sense to me

It would make better sense to practically anyone here, and we would also be a bit more calm on the widescreen situation. If G8 ends up being the start of Season 4, will we get a DVD with G8 and the beginning of DBF arc stretched to widescreen or cropped for fullscreen? We are still even questioning each other if FUNi's going to even give us the widescreen masters of the DBF arc and so on. Let's just hope FUNi does the right thing. We've already received word that there will be a lot of One Piece announcements from FUNimation, once Season 3 ends its releases, so we'll have to wait until then.
-
It is more of hoping that Toei does the right thing. FUNi can only use what they are given.
-
Well looking at the recent episode, it looks like there are wide screen raws as far back as Season 3 Jaya.
-

Uh, no, those scenes were from episode 207. Which incidentally was the first episode produced in HD.
-
An Episode of One Piece costs a lot of money to dub, I think it was somewhere around 10,000. Plus whatever they had to pay Toei for the rights in the first place, which aren't usually a low amount considering it's Fucking Toei.
And people tend to forget that FUNimation does all this work ALONE.
When you watch the Simpsons, as it ends you see "20th Century Fox" and "Gracie Films". And then there's the 1000s of pieces of product placement and endorsements The Simpsons has.
When you watch Futurama, it ends with "30th Century Fox", "The Curiosity Company"
Fox's House M.D. is produced by Heel & Toe Films, Shore Z Productions, Bad Hat Harry Productions, and NBC Universal Television Group. They SHARE the cost and share ALL of the revenue including Ad Revenue and DVD sales.
And then there's Syndication.
Even if DVDs were never released, the Simpsons would still have made the creators MILLIONS Of Dollars on its own. It's Syndicated Everywhere. The CW still shows it, Fox shows old episodes. They still make ad revenue on that. Even old episodes.
Plus, the Simpsons (as an example, but this is true of EVERYTHING produced domestically) is owned and released on DVD by the people who made it (Fox and Gracie Films) So everything they make goes straight to them.
I think I have the thing that will just kill your argument flat.
The Simpsons was produced in 1989. The first DVD release happened in 2001. That's 11-12 years.
What, was the company just making nothing on the show up until then?
No, they were making a LOT of money on Ad revenue, product placements, endorsements, etc etc. They were CERTAINLY making enough to not have to do any home releases of entire seasons for more than a decade. They were making so incredibly much money that the Voice cast fought and successfully got incredibly high pay raises, years before the DVD release started. You don't seem to understand that, Ad revenue, product placement, etc etc is enough on its own to make the company a profit COMPLETELY WITHOUT a DVD release. The DVDs are just a way to make EVEN MORE Profit.
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and the Colbert Report have never been released in "Season" sets, the most you'll ever get from either of those shows is the OCCASIONAL "Best of" DVDs.
How the fuck does that show stay on the air if it can't have a DVD Release?!
By your logic, they're just like FUNimation and they NEED that DVD Release to make any money at all.The answer is, they stay on the air because they make PLENTY OF money WITHOUT A DVD release, through ad revenue, product placement, etc, etc.
FUNimation can do NONE of that. Pretty much ALL Of their revenue from One Piece COMES DIRECTLY FROM THE DVD SALES!
They can't let Luffy sell Candy Bars on commercials. They can't digitally add a George Foreman Grill into Sanji's kitchen. They can't have Nami's Baby Telesnail have the Apple logo and say "iSnail" on it.And they most certainly can't make ANYTHING off of a TV run.
ANY TV show you watch that's been around for a season or two, I guarantee you, not just showing on one channel.
Scrubs is canceled, it no longer airs new episodes. It still makes everyone money from Ads on Comedy Central, The CW and WGN are all showing MULTIPLE Episodes of Scrubs several times a day all week. Every single one of those showings makes the company money.THAT is why they can afford to make the DVDs cheaper than FUNi does.
The closest domestic equivalent to the situation FUNimation is in, are the Futurama movies (AKA: Season 6)
The movies are direct-to-DVD affairs. They were EVEN AIRED ON TV (after the fact) with the rest of the run which generates Ad revenue. And they EVEN have Product placement that generates revenue too. (Zapp Brannigan had to stop to fix his XM Satellite radio in one)
The movies were produced as 16 episodes that fit together as movies (and can be separated for a later broadcast)
The MSRP on each is $29.99, you can get them for about $20 each at Amazon. That's $20 for 4 episodes worth of content. That means if you buy just 3 of them, which is 13 episodes worth of Content (The same as One Piece's sets are) you're being charged $90 MSRP and about $60 if you go to the right online store. And again, that is with a TV Broadcast and Ad revenue that happened later.
Vs. One Piece which is $50 MSRP and is $20-$35 actual price depending on where you go.(I know I kept bringing up the Simpsons, but it's the perfect example because it's about as long as One Piece and it's just about as popular here as OP is in Japan.)
So Yes, FUNimation has a very good reason for having to charge a very reasonable price for One Piece.
Well tough shit for them. I'm not paying more than $25 for a volume.
And if they don't like it, I can just keep my money entirely and go back to watching fansubs.
-
I only pay $27 for the newest releases as they come out and I live in the uk. And delivery is included.
So you're not looking hard enough in the first place.
I also love "it's too expensive so I'll steal it".
But then entitlement bawler's always make me laugh.
-

Uuh, there are plenty of places that have them on sale for about $20 right now.
But whatever. Keep up the ignorance and lack of contributing.

Hmmm, under $25. Well for $13.99 you could always just get vol 1 of the 4kids dub with 3 episodes.

Hahahaa…..oh, you're funny.

Anybody else concerned about the lack of news? I mean we don't have box art for S3V3 nor do we even have a trailer for S3V2…

They did show the trailer for Second Voyage at Anime Expo, once. So it exists.
-
Oh. Well, that's good news. Who narrates it?

It was muted at the FUNi booth as they were setting up. I would have recorded it, but I was talking to Adam Sheehan and company at the time.

Easy mistake. Sorry.
-
I am hoping that they speed up the release schedule on the dvd's to like six weeks apart for all of season 3 and continue for the rest of them. Really I just want to be done with Skypeia and on to Water 7/Ennies Lobby.
-
Oh. Well, that's good news. Who narrates it?
The One Piece Season 3 Second Voyage trailer is on Dragon Ball Season Five Box set, before the main menu on Disc 1.
It is narrated by J. Michael Tatum as Eneru =D

Is there any way you can rip that for our YouTube channel? I'd be eternally grateful (if you want to you can send it to our email at OnePiecePodcast@gmail.com).

 That is…epic!:w00t: Man, I can't wait to see that trailer! I'm finally catching up with the second season box sets since Best Buy is having a super sale on anime...at least for Funimation titles. All I need now is part 4 and 7 of season two. If sales like this happen a little more often, I'll be able to easily catch up with my collection.

That definitly sounds interesting and i'd love to see it but if that set is encoded the same way as the Season Three First Voyage set, it's going to be a lot harder to rip. If you need any help, i'll see what I can do but I can't promise anything when it comes to FUNimation and their encoding processes…

Yeah, it appears that they have enocded it the same way, so I can't seem to rip the trailer from the disc. Any ideas? Until I manage to rip it, I've just recorded it with a standard video Cam and will upload it.

If you can find it, DVD Decryptor.

AnyDVD is your friend. Download a trial and try to rip again. ;)
DVD Shrink or w/e rip tool you use is step 2.

The problem is that while I was able to get the English 5.1 audio of the Knock-Up Stream via Quexinos, I don't actually own the sets myself so I don't know exactly how she ripped it. I'll try and ask her the next chance I get, otherwise we'll just have to wait. You could try AnyDVD or DVD Shrink like EGX recommend but I don't know if those will work. Otherwise, we'll just have to play the waiting game.
@Zach:

Just so you all know, that's the one the new sets break. I wouldn't recommend it for any FUNimation release past Season Three First Voyage unless you like having the program just take up RAM for half an hour.

I've tried DVD decrypter and DVD Shrink but had no luck. So I'm trying your next idea with AnyDVD Now
And that would be really good if you could find out how your friend managed to rip the set.

I think AnyDVD worked for Jason.
Funkatron says: "or use the trial version of anyDVD + handbrake"

AnyDVD is what I always use. After it does it's thing I open the disc in DVD Shrink. I repeat AFTER AnyDVD does it's thing!

No problem.

Oh my god, this trailer must be the most awesome thing ever. I do think they should've saved him for part 3 though. Use Wiper for part 2 and maybe Noland for part 4.

Season 3 Third Voyage coming in October! (link provided on twitter by @Dragonpiece)

:O
Tatum is narrating the trailer?! And it's not on my DVD?! Arghhh!
Thanks for working to rip it. At least we can see it still.
-
So following the pattern we should have set 4 by December 21 and set 5 or s4v1 by February 15. Just to let you guy's know, the French dub that has recently been dubbed has been keeping up with us in dvd releases. Their s3v2 comes out Sept 1, s3v3 on November 3 and s3v4 on January 5th according to amazon.fr . The first 195 episodes have also already aired on French tv and they have already recorded up to ennis lobby, so that kind of puts things in some persective.
-
Just to let you know guys, The trailer for the Season 3 Second Voyage will be up in about 10-20 Minutes =D
-
Yahoo thanks man!
-
And it's up!!
One Piece Season 3 - Second Voyage Trailer as told by Eneru, I hope you all enjoy
