Yes, but when you pay shipping at an online store, the online store is not getting the money you pay for your shipping cost. So if I'm there at a convention and want to buy something, its a little crazy to expect me to have to compensate for the shipping cost when I'm right there buying it in the flesh. And going buy their prices, if I wanted to buy multiple items, it would be equivalent to ordering multiple WCFs and having all of them shipped separately. That REALLY adds up fast.
Well, with the dealings going ot at Anime Expo and the Exhibit Hall, there are actually other charges that vendors have to pay that are even more riduculous that shipping. There's loading/dock charges, transportation to the event, shipping to said event if out of state or just far away, and other fees. I'd agree with you if it were an actual store, but a convention isn't an actual store. And as far as physical stores go, $3-5 for Bandai's FC and other blind box minifigs is the norm, along with $7-10 for Styling Figures. I've also seen stores mark up the FCs after they figure out with are the rare/most wanted ones. It isn't just restricted to Toys Logic. It's most anime stores in general. Don't forget that they have to have stuff shipped from Japan to them as well.
@The:
Its funny you mention that, because the Toys Logic booth has a specific policy to not do that. No matter how much you haggle with them, they ain't changing the price.
Which is fine, because other booths can haggle while some won't. I'm agreeing with you on this point.
@The:
Well actually they sell the same POPs other booths have for jacked up prices as well. Such as selling Kuma for $120 while the booth around the corner was selling him for $100. They kinda bank on that people will buy it without looking around first. And sadly it works.
This can be avoided by smart shopping. It's also not Toys Logic ONLY that does this. First time convention goers will always fall victim to this. More experienced people know that it's smart to shop around. Though sometimes, you gotta take what you can get if it's the only shop around. I've seen multiple booths have similarly high priced items, and have lucked out to find the one or two booths that have lower prices.
You've been to a few conventions, so most of this advice will probably fall on deaf ears. My main gripe is that you're complaining that an online North American distributor that has to pay an extra licensing to both Viz and Funimation charges slightly more than an online import store that only has to pay the nominal fees for items. It's different for companies that are not affiliated with a direct Japanese distribution source. It's pretty much the opposite of importing media (cds, dvds, and games are pricier in Japan).
