I actually have reasons for loving how he pulled this off and a lot of my appreciation (which I'm sure you're well aware of yourself we just have different opinions) comes from his comments on how he likes handling Luffy's emotions.

The only thing that worries me and my only outstanding ultimatum ('cause let's face it, Bentham is alive) is whether or not BB just wants power or not.

Until MF he seemed like he wanted something 'bigger' but his actions and words at Marineford seem to indicate a raw power move and…urgh....let's just say I hope we don't go down that path cause then I'd have to stop reading.

And I'd stick by it too.

When I stated it I was sure there was no chance but his actions and words at MF gave me room for concern. I trust Oda to bring it around though. He's been far too deliberate with the character.

Could be the lack of pirate crew vs. pirate crew showdowns until annihilation, the splitting crew itself and Luffy getting rescued by anyone he stumbles across?

EDIT: The one fight after another mentallity which lead to at least 20 unfinished fights? The common use of rescue arcs?

I personally hate the lack of exploring islands and main cast interactions, but it's all due to the fact that they split.

The recent One Piece is too dark, perhap. Since Impel Down. Darker than before, at least.
The last ending party is Thriller Bark.
But I believe in Oda. One Piece won't be a dark series. Or a too emotional one. It just has dark parts, as he stated.
I believe that after the crew regroups at some point and get on to the new island, it will return to the good old adventures day with ridiculous weird things.

The war arc has been my favorite arc of all. That is not to say I want to see more of it. I want OP to go back to its normal routine of island exploration and crew fights, but imo it was a brilliant move on Oda's part to switch things up, separate the crew, and have the clash of the titans war. Which has led to Luffy's first real mental crisis, the desperate cry he made in 589 of being too weak. We'll have to see how Oda follows this up, but looks to me like he really knows what he is doing.

Of course I miss all the Strawhats and can't wait for the reunion, but I understand that this needed to be done. One Piece will only become stronger from it. The time we've had away from the crew won't be so bad in a couple years.

I think that since the archipelago Oda has been on fire giving us his best stories. I honestly wouldn't change any of it. Hell it's all been worth it if only for this chapter.

IMO,One Piece has not lost what it once has, it just temporarily turn into another direction.
I don't feel like I am reading One Piece anymore since the crew split, but it is still good in another way.
I have to say that is a brillant move.
The war saga was more mature than before, despite Oda saying One Piece is for kids.

And by power, I meant Haki.

Because I love telling people how a story WILL go then being blatantly lambasted or told off due to ignorance. It's opportunities like this that those of us who 'know what's up' can gloat ultimately in hopes of, bringing more fans to a higher level of understanding and appreciation of the series.

Aside from the ugly discussion on 'potential' I was extremely civil when it came to talking about Sabo's death. As I repeatedly said, there's no debating it, it's simply how it is and what Oda planned. I was hit with insults, ridicule and sarcasm, none of which I responded to.

Now I get to respond.

This time girls and boys, we learned something about 'foreshadowing'. Now some people will think twice when they simply want someone to be dead and look at the evidence.

As far as my honest thoughts of the chapter, those are coming, because there are a lot.

Because this was a HUGE chapter.

But I don't know if any scanlators are using his scripts these days, and quite frankly with the way current trends are going, I think it's better to stay relatively low profile by not offering scanlation services. :ninja:

also, I have to disagree with Mrkaizoku that the Mangastream English was understandable, I didn't realize they were talking about Sabo until I came here and read the Japanese. looking at the raw now, it's obvious, i think it's the fonts used to make it look like 3 voices, whereas on the MS one it kinda made it look like just 2 voices. and even in Japanese that single "あ…" is weird, haha.

this chapter made me think about that whole "freedom" concept in OP. Luffy thinks that prate king = the most free person. So he acts as person with excessive freedom (not reasoning about acting - just decide - and go - not thinking of consequences).

But i think, now we came to a controversy of strength and freedom - actually, being strong is not connected to being free.

And even being as strong as the pirate king doesnot necessarily make you act out of your free will. I mean, a typical pirate king would pretty much resemble WhiteB. and WhiteB. had a whole lotta ppl and stuff to take care of. He is not "the person with most freedom".

So Luffy will want to be strong. But the grounding of his wish to become pirate king should be something else.
