@$abZ:
Dragon brought back somebody injured on the night of the day Sabo was shot down. Very, very likely it's Sabo. The connection between Sabo and Dragon was definately a way to set this up.
Zoro was just there for randomness I guess. Shows his island must not be too far from Luffy's.
Dragon represents freedom, and Sabo's dream is to be free. You'd think his dream will become true when Dragon manages to overthrow the gov't (if he does). This current flashback has shown the OP world and the corrupt mindset of citizens which has come as a result of the gov't taking charge after the Void Century. We already know the importance of the Poneglyphs which reveal the details of the century, and the SHs will be the ones to finally uncover it and do something about it (apparently Roger and his crew couldn't do anything at their time). Sabo is a very important character who represents the struggle of living in a corrupt world.
Agree with everything accept the notion that Roger and Co couldn't do anything about what they read on the Poneglyphs. Releigh never said that. He said the SH's may make a different choice than the Roger pirates did. Pretty significant difference imho.
Really, I thought this chapter was pretty boring.
…but, it does essentially set us up for a major jump in power for Luffy, the Straw Hats reuniting and Sabo and Luffy reuniting sooner than later.
Speaking of Sabo and Luffy, I've always thought that the revolutionaries and Luffy's crew would have to form an alliance someday; Luffy's already in good company with a few marines (Coby, Helmeppo, and later on people like Aokiji and Smoker) and the Yonkou, so it's only natural that he should be connected with another of the world's main forces. Even thought Dragon could always be the catalyst for the formation of that bond, he's sort of a dickhead father and I could never see him handling that situation very well. Sabo, on the other hand, has a very deep fraternal bond with Luffy, and he's the perfect character to make the Strawhat x Revolutionaries team later on in the series.
I initially thought that Oda created Sabo to kill him, and make Aces' death even worse. Now I believe that he created Sabo to give Luffy the connection with his father that he never had. If Sabo's with Dragon that would instantly make Luffy know that Dragon is a good guy. Then maybe they can finally play that game of catch…
EDIT
@a11b1ue:
Sorry, I'm new here, so i have a few questions. How do we know that Sabo is still alive? Whats the importance of Zoro in the panel? What's the importance of Dragon? I'll probably reread it to get a better grasp of it, but it still isn't coming together that well.
I facepalmed so hard when I read this that I have a throbbing red hand print on my face…
Seriously this is going to be EVERY page. I wish people would read the THREAD to see if their questions were already asked (and subsequently beaten into the ground for PAGES) before bringing them up. Honestly it would save so many of us from wanting to smash our skulls YOUR skull in.
Dragon knows all about Luffy and Sabo, that's why he went the extra mile to save him.
The same way he picked up on the trash mountain inferno plan in back-water East Blue.

Not everyone has the time to go through 24+ pages to look for answers. I looked for quite a while to see if anyone was to identify who the three people hiding during Luffy's departure was. I know the smaller one was the one who informed Luffy and Ace about Sabo's "death" (FYI, I believe he's alive. Please don't kill me if you disagree ).
I liked this chapter. That last panel really, really struck me. To read through the whole series and see him talk so ambitiously and confidently that he wants to be the pirate king, and to now see him doubt himself… I really look forward to seeing how he gets back on his feet.
There should be a disclaimer for why Sabo's alive in the first post. Edit some of Aohige's post in it.
@Mr.:

It's been stated like every other page though! I swear people… Reading comprehension around these parts is at a depressingly low level.
I'm just excited for the upcoming training montage/update on the crew chapters, but what robby said about Hancock cooking a massive feast and Luffy replying "I'm not hungry" was spot-fucking-on. That and some confrontation from Hancock afterwards should be the impetus for an 'Alright, let's train!' mini-arc.
When looking at it as a whole, I thought this flashback was a good one and (importantly) placed at the right time in the story. It does set up Sabo as Luffy's New World brother/protector that'll die protecting him in some massive conflict, but Oda wouldn't be that symmetrical in his storytelling, right?
hmmm so Sabo is the guy with eye patch hmmm he must be injured he lost an eye or something.
Hahahahahaha!
Luffy and Ace defeated Akakabuto!
I never thought I'd see Oda do an homage to Yoshihiro Takahashi's Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin. Briliant.
lol, please.
Just admit you were wrong and move on with it.
You would go and quote something pages after Aohige explained the context of the scene to me and after I admitted my mistake and explained my mistake. I was admitting that I was wrong back in the spoiler thread when I had thought the scene was explicit.

Sorry, I quote as I read :ninja:
such a good chapter..really enjoying it…and now we get back to present time...It obvious that Luffy will train to get stronger..but I rather have to skip it..I like to be surprised by some cool moves just like gear 2&3 ...

Yep. I'm almost sure that it won't happen again. Pulling another ace wouldn't be interesting and might as well harm the story.
I'm just going to ask two things from Oda that are still along ways off from even coming up as possible scenarios:
1. Please don't turn Sabo into a cheerleader side character who isn't as important in the revolutionary plot line as Dragon and who doesn't have a major role to play beyond the arc in which he's reintroduced. I don't know where Oda is going with this and still am a bit skeptical about giving Luffy another Big brother figure (especially since I still think Shanks will lose his life to BB) right after Ace just died.
2. And I hope Dragon won't go down the route of trying to get Luffy to join the revolutionary army to which he refuses leading to bad blood between them or something.
But considering how far away we probably are from the main revolutionary army arc I'll just withhold judgement and give Oda the benefit of the doubt because after many years of good storytelling it's the least he deserves.
I'm guessing WB not actually wanting to be PK and preparing Ace for it has poisoned your mind.
What other characters are even set up in the position to be cheerleaders for Luffy? It's not as if Sabo was ever aiming to be PK and is now taking a back seat to Luffy. He obviously has his own goals. Do you consider the SHs cheerleaders as well?
I mean do you think Sabo is going to join or be shadowing Luffy throughout the story rooting for him as he gets One Piece?
The whole notion of Sabo being a cheer leading side character is bogus as fuck.

I say this because Sabo's character at the moment doesn't seem like it could go anywhere beyond being on the sidelines, he more than likely won't be as important in the revolutionary army as Dragon and will likely be a subordinate, and from what we currently know about him he lacks the character connections to be at the center of something as big as what Ace was involved in. It doesn't help either that he has only been in the story for a bit and only in a flashback, so at the moment the only things that are pretty much guaranteed about him is that he and Luffy will have an emotional reunion and that he'll probably be supportive of him. So without anything hinting at any possible major plotlines that could focus on him it's hard to see him for more than just the emotional reunion and the role of supportive big brother.
And the SH have had way more time in the story, and are main characters whose dreams are connected to the endgame of the story, so of course I don't see them as cheerleaders.
I say this because Sabo's character at the moment doesn't seem like it could go anywhere beyond being on the sidelines
I'm sorry you think this but even if you are right being an important side character doesn't change in to cheer leading side character.

How could you say this? Ace was a member of a yonkou's pirate crew and ended up being in the center of a war that changed the One Piece world.
Sabo is a member of the revolutionaries and you're honestly saying he'll just be a side character/subordinate when the saga involving the revolutionaries and WG happens? All he'll amount to is support and an emotional reunion with Luffy? What manga are you reading?
First ppl say remembering Sabo's death will help Luffy get over Ace's death and now it's Sabo surviving will serve as touching reunion with Luffy and he'll just play the sidelines.
It doesn't help either that he has only been in the story for a bit and only in a flashback
Going off introduction hasn't Sabo been in more chapters and has had more character development than Ace? We knew less about Ace after meeting him in Alabasta and after he lost to BB and look where he ended up and you're actually saying the short time Sabo's been in the manga after all of his character development his "death" had so much impact on the protagonist that you actually worry that all he'll amount to is a cheer leading side character?
I'm flabbergasted.
If anything his character development in the flashback puts him in a situation to be developed and fleshed out more like any other SH.
So without anything hinting at any possible major plotlines that could focus on him it's hard to see him for more than just the emotional reunion and the role of supportive big brother.
I can't believe you really think after what we've learned about Sabo's goals and ideals that this is all to be expected from him and that he won't play a major role in the revolutionaries and be nothing but a subordinate.
I'm just going to assume these posts stem from you being wrong about him being dead, probably not liking the character or the fact he lives cuz of a cliche, limited imagination, and refusal to properly place Sabo in the story and future plot lines.
Everything you're worrying about is ridiculous. Where they may be possible they're definitely not probable.
So now that Sabo is most likely alive, will he get the eye-patch?

1. Ace was later revealed to be the PK's son which is pretty damn significant, but again I'm going off what we know of Sabo at the moment and I just don't see any big reveals about him beyond what we all know about him being a revolutionary.
2. Sabo being a subordinate is guaranteed since we know Dragon runs the army and will likely be front and center, Sabo by most indications will be lower in the hierarchy than Ivankov though he very well could have taken Ivankov's spot while he was locked up. Secondly by not being a main character of course he'll be a side character but my point was that I just don't see him being as important in the revolutionary army arc as Dragon because Sabo doesn't lead the army and likely takes orders from Dragon so I'm just speculating off what we know though it could change. At the moment we don't know of any major connections that Sabo could have that could elevate him beyond Luffy's long lost brother, and who takes orders from Luffy's dad in terms of where he stands in the story.
3. The touching reunion is pretty much guaranteed at this point and since again I don't think Sabo will be more important for the Revolutionaries as Dragon, and since I don't think he'll become an SH I just can't see a scenario that takes him beyond what we expect to happen as his character progression, I feel the same way about Ivankov. My thing is that I don't see either Sabo or Ivankov being at the center of their own arcs but instead as major side characters in the revolutionary arc.
4. Probably because Oda needed to give Sabo enough substance to justify why the hell we're just hearing about him now and to give us a reason for why we should give a damn when Luffy and he reunite. And Ace had the connection to BB established pretty early, same thing as with WB. You can say that Sabo has his connection to Dragon but I just don't see him having as much of an involvement with as many important plot events as Ace who was defeated by BB (who has a 99% percent chance of being the endgame villain), who was the son of the PK, whose defeat and capture would lead to such a significant event as the war and who had the first present time onscreen death of any character that wasn't total fodder (oh yeah Oars but you get the point). I just can't see Sabo as having this type of significant role from what we've been given so far which is just that he's the long lost brother serving Dragon.
5. No these posts stem from me currently being unable to imagine anything super impactful to the main plot that solely focuses on Sabo and isn't mostly focused on Dragon with Sabo on the side. But again I said shit can change when we get more information, but atleast with Ace I knew that there'd be some major confrontation with BB and that it would lead to WB being drawn into the plot. I've got nothing against Sabo, I just don't see the need for Luffy to get another big brother after the character development of losing the one that was known for over a decade.
Or!
Just wait and see what comes. One Piece has always surprised me (in fact, I never saw the deaths coming, except for the first major one in Marineford), so I'm sure Oda will surprise us in some way.
I'd rather feel surprised than, "Yes! I was right about Sabo", or "No, I was wrong about Sabo".
@Mr.:

Pretty much.
.

Ace being Roger's son has NOTHING to do with the fact that WB was coming to save him. Outside of Ace's crappy self image character Oda could've left out Roger being his father.
2. Sabo being a subordinate is guaranteed since we know Dragon runs the army and will likely be front and center, Sabo by most indications will be lower in the hierarchy than Ivankov though he very well could have taken Ivankov's spot while he was locked up. I'm not going to engage in this speculation of whether or not he's a commander or taken Iva or Kuma's position. Of course Dragon is the leader. If you think I was arguing you that you've lost your mind.
Just because Sabo won't be as important as the fucking leader of the revolutionary army does not mean he'll be a side line cheer leading character.
3. The touching reunion is pretty much guaranteed at this point
That's irrelevant. An emotional reunion will not be his purpose.
and since again I don't think Sabo will be more important for the Revolutionaries as Dragon
You gotta be retarded to keep reiterating this as if it supports your point.
and since I don't think he'll become an SH I just can't see a scenario that takes him beyond what we expect to happen as his character progression
So once again you can't think of anything so you'll worry about the options you think are possible. Logical fallacy of the false dilemma.
4. Probably because Oda needed to give Sabo enough substance to justify why the hell we're just hearing about him now and to give us a reason for why we should give a damn when Luffy and he reunite. What are you talking about? Oda didn't need to justify anything about Ace when we just heard about him. He didn't just whip together some sob story and kill Sabo off. He actually gave him a personality, a worthwhile dream and character development unlike the other dead flashback characters.
Again your worries seem to be your own fault due to your limitations. Oda uses this cliche move you hate so much and you're off thinking it'll be to reintroduce a character that's on the sidelines as a cheer leader for the protagonist.
5. No these posts stem from me currently being unable to imagine anything super impactful to the main plot that solely focuses on Sabo and isn't mostly focused on Dragon with Sabo on the side.
I guess this is why so many fans call Oda Goda and scream epic after every good chap.
One question… Do you think Dadan also raised Dragon cut Garp left him to her.
Somehow no wife of Garp or wife of Dragon was ever mentioned. The only female D was Rogue.
Luffy he even said he had no one besides Garp and Ace.

Did Oda ever mention anything about them in an SBS? What I'm saying is, did a reader ask and he kinda dodged the question or said that he will reveal them later or something like that? I'm far too lazy to go reading through every SBS to find out…..:ninja:

I don't know if it was in an SBS but if I remember correctly that Oda said something along those lines that if he'd include Luffy's mother she most likely would be ugly. I'm sure that this point got brought up when Dadan made an entrance at the beginning of this flashback.

Still, the only thing that I'm worried about this is that Oda might introduce Luffy's mother as already dead, kinda like how Ace's mother died before the main storyline. I felt that it was okay with Ace, and it's okay for luffy to be raised by Dadan, I just don't want Oda to take an easy route, so to speak, and reveal that Luffy's mother died for whatever reasons before the storyline, just to save time/energy and stuff like that.

Only if he happens to lose an eye.

! Then could she really be Monkey D. Adan? Wait… is Dadan even a woman? I thought he was a man.
Sabo is on Kaidou's ship.
Shanks stopped them so Luffy would at least have one brother left.
That thing about his mom was in Shonen Jump US, I think. But if I remember correctly Oda didn't say she'd be ugly, but that she wouldn't be good looking. I guess you could see those 2 things as the same, but I just see her as looking normal. But with Oda she'd probably end up being attractive anyways. I hope she would have more of Luffy's features, though. Dragon looks nothing like Luffy…
We still don't know when Ace got his DF !? Was it before he left Luffy or after ? If after, then when they met at Alabasta, Luffy saw him use his DF for the first time there ? He didn't seem surprises as I remember !?
He probably had it when he was in the Spade pirates because the flag is a head on fire and Whitebeard reading the news shows a picture of Ace with flames around…
So somewhere in between ? Or did he already have it before leaving Luffy ?
I'm fairly sure Luffy said Ace having Devil Fruit powers was new to him.

You know Sanji's offering of Ace some tea right there really helps with the him being truly gay theory.
@Goustifruit I don't re-call the newspaper having that much detail in it to show Ace with flames around him… but I don't know, would have to search through those chapters to see.

Oh, yeah, I see. Plus they also mentioned him having a logia right in the panel before. So, I'm assuming he got the Mera Mera shortly after leaving his hometown. Probably a year or so in, depending on when he actually joined Whitebeard's crew.
Also… if Luffy read the paper and saw Ace becoming famous? How come he didn't read about him having a devil fruit? Apparently, it's right in there >_<
so Sabo is with Dragon now huh :)
Maybe those were different articles. Or Luffy can't read or see pictures very good. I mean, Luffy is pretty stupid… :-/

Wow! Now that is a brilliant observation, and definately worthy of some crowing if it turns out to be true! Very Oda-esque to pull something along those lines.
Thing is, if he is indeed the eye-patch pirate of mystery, how does he go from being with Dragon (who seemingly embodies all that he was searching for as a kid with Luffy and Ace) to being a pirate on the high seas, and if he's a pirate of repute, where the hell was he at Marineford? As a revolutionary or a slave, I can think of reasons, but as a free and loose pirate? Dunno–seems a bit fishier. Can't wait to see the true story as only Oda can write it.

All will be revealed in time, lol.
But why do you assume these women must be D's?
