Really? I thought they would use it for another few episodes since the opening has clips of Marineford as well.
FUNimation Simulcast Discussion

That's never mattered before. Toei changes openings whenever they please.
-
Yeah, this Saturday should bring about a new opening.
-
I wonder, are there any options for Canadians to watch the older Simulcast episodes? I didn't even realize they are all eventually moved to Hulu until recently, and it won't let me view them.
It kinda sucks, since I was in the mood to re-watch the Separation episode recently.
Hate it!
Btw I cant wait for the new episode! -
Good, the simulcast works again for me, no need to rush-YT it before it gets deleted~!
-
This arc is off to a fantastic start. Great episode.
-
No lie… the opening and the ending scene had me.
Rocking some goosebumps right about now.
Good Lord that was some good editing.
-
I liked the new opening. Definitely not what you'd expect from an One Piece opening, but that's fine! This arc isn't what you'd expect from One Piece either. The mood in this episode was very serious.
I liked the way the reveal was done at the end. I also like that they've added some new background music into the mix. The chant music is a little strange, but you know it's serious when they play it. Like in Chopper's flashback.
-
*Like the opening, much better than the last (did find it funny how parts of the old OP showed up in this episode)
*had a good laugh at Buggy breaking into about 50 pieces and spinning in the air
*overall this ep had a really good flow and the animation was good too, hope they can keep it up

Holy fuck the animation.
About the episode. I really liked how they did this episode. The reveal was awesome, probably more awesome for anime only people, and the chanting was a nice touch.. It didn't really feel like 1 whole chapter at all but it was a bit slow in the beginning. The opening was unexpected. I thought it would be more fast paced. It sounds like an ending rather than an opening to me. Animation was great in there how they showed both sides of the war. I didn't really like how Marco looked in the opening for some reason. He had some sort of pastel look on him or something. Buggy made me laugh once again. Overall a decent episode with a great finish.
Also
Oda sure loves his bright colors. -
This post is deleted!

loved the opening. every is happy no more more happy go lucky YEAH in the opening. this was just as good as the manga the pacing was good and it didn't rush things like the big reveal. the war has a lot of implied filler so seeing the anime is going to be so much better
-
I have confidence that this arc is going to be just as good in the anime, if they continue the good work that was in this episode. While the beginning was slower, it didn't feel like much time was wasted on still shots or anything like that. And the slow pace to the reveal worked perfectly.
As for the new opening, I was quite surprised. I'm one of the few who liked opening 12, but I have to admit this opening (while it does feel more like an ending somehow) seems to fit Marineford much better in its seriousness. I think the anime can drag this arc out for a while with all the implied filler they have to work with, and I'd actually like to see some fights that were cut short or not shown at all.
-
I thought these 3 were really good (which was why I made them .. couldn't resist)

Wow, this episode covered a whole chapter and a page. (The guy dropping the notebook was the first page of chapter 551 while the episode covered all of 550)
-
That opening… Oh my god that opening....
-
That was a good episode. Enjoyed the song to, don't love it but its nice.

Two pages. There was the last page of 549 as well.
-
@Thousand:
Two pages. There was the least page of 549 as well.
Yeah the last two pages of 459, the whole of 450 and the first page of 451.
1 chapter and three pages total. -
really enjoyed the new opening.
-
Just caught up on the last 2 episodes. Both were good. I like how they referenced Shiki in the most recent one.
New opening was good. The imagery was awesome, but the song could've been a little better IMO.
-

Your right. Thanks for pointing that out.
-
For the people that are watching the older episodes. Episode 137 and 138 are now up.
-
Wait, is there no episode this week?
-
I was just about to say… where is the new ep ;_____;? is there really none this week?
-
Nope they're taking a week off. Let the raging commence.
-
…. why the HELL have I not heard this ANYWHERE!????? T____T I would've bitched last week... UGH.
-

Didn't they announce it last week in the RAW thread? They're having a Parade of Smiles or something like that being broadcasted instead.
-
Look on the bright side! This could indicate they're taking more time to make this war excellently well-made.
-
Even Funi had it on its blong since last week. They even posted a reminder on said blog reminding everyone the day the episode was going to come out.
-

I seriously doubt this has affected their production schedule at all.
-
Hmm… so I can't watch the newest episode. I'm in Canada. And I'm getting a fucking Hulu "YOU MUST BE IN USA" message.
Somebody's gonna die.

Why don't you guys write to Funi about it instead of complaining to us? You live in Canada and were promised the simulcast as we were.
-
Well, I'll wait for tomorrow's episode. If it's just old episodes that go on Hulu, I'm okay with that. But if I don't get that new episode Saturday night… ; _ ;
FUNi has a Facebook, right?
-
Yes, Funi has a facebook, but I don't know how often they check that. It wouldn't hurt to try, though.
If anything, maybe someone at Otakon would be kind enough to bring this up to the Funi people.
I don't know about tomorrow's episode, since it seems they're using hulu now (at least I saw last week's ep yesterday and it was on a hulu player). Good luck to you, though.
-
Pretty decent episode tonight, even if it was a little slow paced. The added flashback scenes with Rouge and the added future flashbacks of Dadan getting Ace and Luffy was also a nice touch. The art and animation were lazy this week, using footage from opening 12 and still shots. But if it means better animated and faster paced episodes later on, I'm all for it.
-
It thought the episode was ok. I knew they left a lot of things open for implied filler but I just want to see whitebeard soo bad. we got to see the new world pirates at least.
also is you think about it the anime is kinda close to the manga. all the war was mostly two page spreads and action in between the talking.they need to slow things down
-

At least we will see him next week.
I'm perfectly fine with implied filler, but only if done right. Rather than showing characters stand around talking, I'd like to see more of certain fights that are only briefly shown or not shown at all and mentioned later. If any talking needs to be done between characters, they should do it in between action scenes while they fight to try and keep the pace decent.
Aldo keep in mind that Oda left lots of room open after the war for added filler material. Unlike certain other mangakas, Oda seems to really care about helping the anime of his series out as well.
Speaking of filler material, I noted this a while back, but that guy from G8 (Jonathon?) was shown in a brief shot a while back of Marines assembling for the war. It'd be cool if we got to see a little of him at some point.
-
I thought this episode was great, but how many times are they going to reuse animation from the last opening? They've used that animation of the three admirals more than once now.
-

Hopefully this is the last time. I can accept it this episode because that scene was taken from this chapter. But enough is enough now.

Good episode, Rouge flashback took a little longer that I would have liked but I guess it worked. And it was also cool seeing a little bit of Dadan too.
I was kinda wondering about the coating and being underwater thing since it didn't really "translate" well in the manga so judging from this episode it looks like it pretty much outlines the ship and what pretty much equates to … a bubble
Only thing I really didn't like (it was really minor) was the constant flipping of the pages of the reporters book on Sabaody, if the wind is blowing that hard to keep flipping the pages over and over again it probably isn't safe to just be standing out in the open like that.

I'm okay with the way they handled the coating, although I'm hoping they will tune down the coating shine a bit after it submerges fully so we can see the incredible design of the Moby Dick. And next episode looks to be moving things along nicely.
Oh yeah, the preview seems to have it that once it submerges, the bubble coating disappears. Good.
-
After this episode, I have a filling that Luffy's flashback involving Ace in Sabo is going to last longer than it needs to be. Other than that, I can't wait for the action to start unfolding.
-
Watched the episode yesterday night. Was a good episode but using the admiral thing from the opening more than once was kind of unneeded but whatever. The flashback lasted a little bit longer than I wanted it to be but I'll go with it. Hancock and Ace looked weird near the end.
-
The zoom-in with Ace actually had me laughing, it was that horrendous. And based on the next episode title, 461 will be unbelievably stretched out with pointless flashback and probably a lot of standing around, doing nothing but talking.
Oh Toei, how would I ever live without you butchering the greatest arc in One Piece?
-
how do you hide spoilers?

But think of it like this. If they stall for a few of these "warm up" episodes based off the chapters, then perhaps we can get really fast paced fights later on. The first few chapters of this arc are spent setting up the plot and who fights who. After that, then I will be mad if things get stretched out too much. Toei needs to stretch out the later flashback later in exchange, which I'd be fine with. Like reanimating stuff from chapter/episode 1.

Ya this is true. I doubt Toei would just ruin a good arc like this.
-
I expect many, many profile shots and reaction shots during this arc.
IN THE DOZENS.
