Wow, awesome chapter. Dunno how they plan on being the best if they're not serialized in Jump. It's pretty much the King when it comes to manga. Eh, I hope they go to Shonen Sunday or Magazine along with Kenichi or Negima:P

They don't have to be serialized in Jump to be the best, there are some other mangas in other magazines that are better then the most Jump series. I don't exactly know how this will develope, but there are a few ways i can imagine.
First and most possible, Eiji will help them and cancels Tanto.
Second they are going to another magazine published by Shueisha
Imo this is the only way for Obata and Ohba in order to receive no difficulties with their publisher. It would be kind of cool if Mashiro and Takagi move to seinen, it would fit with Takagis darker story telling.
Or the last and most unlikly way, they are really going to another magazine. -
GOOD FUCKING CHAPTER RIGHT HERE!!! It's nice to see Saiko back to his original character, and not the sad little boy he was a while a go. And you don't have to be in jump to be successful. Just look at Fullmetal Alchemist, Fairy Tail, Hajime No Ippo, Meitantei Conan, etc. None of them are in WSJ, but they're all pretty popular. They might not be as popular as some Jump titles, but let's face it, a lot of manga that run in WSJ is over cliched crap (ie/ naruto and bleach). If they get published in another magazine, they should be fine.
-
Pretty good chapter this week, I do doubt they'd actually leave jump for too long if they do becasue well that is who this manga is published by. We will just have to wait and see.
-
Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing them go to Shonen Gangan. That way, they're still doing the same genre, only with a (slightly) more flexible schedule. Something along the lines of Trap and Future Watch would work better in a Monthly magazine, anyway… that gives them plenty of pages to flesh out the story. Plus, with a monthly schedule, it gives Shujin much more time to come up with ideas.
So, yeah, if they leave Jump, I'm hoping they move to Gangan.
-
I loved the running gag in this chapter. Everyone is smart enough to not fall for hypothetical questions.
-
Great chap. Bakuman is establishing it's place in my top 3 with one piece and beelzebub.
I kinda doubt that they will hop to other magazine because their rivals are in Jump so it's gonna be kinda hard to compete directly if they do. But it was nice to see Mashiro so determined and confident in front of chief-editor and all. Also it was nice when Shujin admitted that he was end of his rope with gags.
-
Great chapter as always.
I highly doubt that they'll leave Jump, at least in the long run. It's possible they may have a falling out with them, but I know they'll be back. Of course, if they do leave, and considering that Bakuman is published in Jump, I wonder if they would go so far as to depict rival magazines in the story, like Shonen Gangan.
-
1ST OF ALL YOU ARE RETARDED…
You should check Obata's failed gag attempts..and thats why the chars aint doing good in this either.I thought Bakuman is a 2 author manga? And isn't Obata's role more on the art/illustration side rather than the plot? :ermm:
-
Nah, they'll probably go to a fictional magazine.
-
Nah they'll stay with jump, this is all a bluff.
-
Oh, how I freaking LOVE the Editor-in-Chief. (does he even have a name?) He always says the thing that most need to be said in the most direct way possible, it's awesome. He's like the old samurai master who's seen it all and knows a greenhorn when he sees one. Makes me wonder if the real SJ Editor-in-Chief is really like that.
I wouldn't be adverse to see our duo go to another magazine, their best style would fit more in a magazine like Shonen Gangan or Shonen Monthly. There is nothing that says you can't be the top of the manga world if you're not in Jump. The odds are better, but it's not the end-all of magazines. There are several manga magazines for a reason.
One of the more interesting fallouts of such a move would be the effect on Hattori and Eiji. Hattori's been scheming to get Mashiro and Takagi to do better in order to become pillars of Jump, but what if that plan backfired and they left Jump completely? It would make for some awesome scenes.
In the end though I still expect Eiji to come out and save their asses with his "Get out of sucky series free" card.
-
Its about being a pro.
They wont leave. -

Exactly this, he's like one of the wise old men in fighting stories who teaches the heroes evezrything they need to know and then dies in a blaze of glory. His abrupt, straight to the point style is really appealing to me. "That's whyat being a proo is, stop whining like little children".
In any case great chapter. This storylines going to wind up with the moral message that you shouldn't make stories just to get published, you should make stories you genuinely enjoy.

I think he does.
He's like the Badass Old Man of Bakuman.
And according to Jump's latest trend he'll probably go down in some badass old man way, perhaps fighting a rival editor in chief or battling terrorists who want to stop the presses. Or something.
Though still not awesome as Akira Hattori, Bakuman's Hattori's namesake and Oda's actual editor.
-
mashiro finally grew a pair and did stuff this chapter.
this is the first time he wasn't totally overshadowed by takagi since the very beginning of the story. everyone knows they can't leave jump forever, but hopping
to a rival magazine for a bit WOULD be a DAMN interesting story avenue–i doubt
that'll happen, though.the gag for me got stale after the first time, but i did enjoy the slight
hinting at 'naughty' stuff on miyoshi and takagi's honeymoon:
"so what if your yukata falls open?" -
man I love miyoshi.
"I'm so nervous, my boobs hurt!"
-
new chapter is out

! GOOD BYE MOTHER FUCKING TANTO!!!!! Finally >.>
-
Great chapter, they finally quit! Thank the heavens!
Now, something that will kick ass, I dunno but I'm sure it will undoubtedly do the kicking of ass.
-
bakuman taught me that japanese people scream during meetings
-
The editor in chief is a walking talking god among men.
-
Awesome, so Tanto is done. But now it seems like they'll really be at the nitty gritty, the final arc. They've experienced all different genres and grown as characters and authors and now they know what they need to do. I think they can really make the series they want to make, now and really compete on the level of the top.
Otherwise they'd have failed too many times. Both as "authors whose works have failed more than twice" and… just for the story at this point. It'd be dumb to see them fail again.
-
God…Editor in Chief was awesome as usual. And more Hattori is always a good thing.
-
One thing I LOVE about this series is that it has all the drama and suspense of your top-tier shounen battle mangas . . . . . and it's almost nothing but PEOPLE TALKING. And yet these 19 pages of people talking is more exciting and suspenseful than anything Kishi or other sub-par authors can create with big explosions and lotsa sword. Go Ohba/Obata.
But that said, time to move on! I don't think anyone will miss Tanto (although I do feel sorry for the kiddies who read it), but now we've got this new challenge that will push them to their limits. I am looking forward to it, especially now that Miura has eaten his humble pie and teamed up with Hattori. (when does Hattori sleep, anyway?)
I noticed the Goddamn Fucking Homewrecker hasn't shown her face in a bit. I wonder what her reaction to all this will be. That's a loose thread they can't leave alone for too long.
-
Thank god mediocre series is finally dead.
-
Now if only Kishi and Kubo did the same thing…
-
Well, I'm with everyone else. Thank God that Tanto has ended. I guess we'll be getting into the final arc of the story now, and whatever they come up with within these next 6 months will be the one that makes them a hit. And I guess Mr. Recluse will be their competition for getting serialized.
And the EIC continues to be frickin' awesome. Loved him pwning Hattori as well as that smirk in the bottom middle panel (you know the one).
-
At least we didnt have to wait for Eiji to cancel it.
-
yawn Insert usual weekly praise here.
It is nice to see this arc has finally reached its inevitable conclusion and everything running on all cylinders. Can't wait to see what comes next.
Does make me wonder what the hell Eiji's cancellation will be for, however. They've mentioned it a couple times recently, so its not a dropped plot element or just a moment of characterization… but an actual plot thread. hrm.
-

Have they? I don't remember it being mentioned at all, aside from once or twice a few chapters after it was initially mentioned.
-
Bakuman, the most text heavy manga in the whole of current Jump line-up, with XXI century setting, no superpowers and no nothing, continues to be a shounen to the every damn letter.
How can editorial meetings give you chills?

My theory has always been that he'll want to cancel himself so he isn't forced to drag out his series a la Death Note.
Of course like I always say, his wish will never come true because he'll never beat One Piece.

Idk, I think some stuff can still happen. Although it's been like 5-6 years since they started working together, I think there's still a lot more that will happen. For it to end right after they get an anime, and Saiko and Miho get married, idk. I would be pretty interested in seeing some more stuff after that.
-
Awesome chapter, I'm fucking thrilled that Tanto's over. Now we get to have fun seeing what new idea they come up with.
Also, I love that new assistant guy, he's great. :>
EDIT:
My prediction is that they get beat by the hikki guy for the August meeting, and then make it in during the October one.
Maybe the December one, depending on if Ohba wants to draw extra suspense. girigiri SAFE and all that. -
They probably won't be ready for August and then the hikki will beat them in October just so it can be as suspenseful as possible come December.
-
Honestly I thought Tanto was a great idea at first but the creativity got lost. I lost interest in it as soon as he changed the design for the main character… I got the impression that they were tying to make it as gaga as possible. That and and the struggle with coming up with gags to keep the idea running in the 1st place.
-
Have they? I don't remember it being mentioned at all, aside from once or twice a few chapters after it was initially mentioned.
Yeah it was brought up again recently in casual conversation among the editors. Around the Christmas party I think, and when Eiji was about to be given 2 series. "With the combined popularity, you'll be number 1".
-
It may be out of chracter, but I bet when they actually rival both series in popularity he will cancel it.
It would stir some excitement within the editorial department.
'Should we allow him to cancel it? If we don't, he'll leave, and we'll lost two series…'

meh, prolly not though, but you're right it could happen.

pretty good chapter, bakuman, pretty good..
glad to see tanto out, but man….miura is such an annoying character
with very few endearing qualities if any. it's REALLY hard to root for that
guy at all. chapter needed more aoki. -
So I bought the first 3 volumes of Bakuman last week or so. (they're already out here in Germany)
and it's really great. it really is something different when you have the art and the text in your hand and don't read everything from a computer screen.
Between every chapter you can see an actuall name from Ohba (the writer) - and they look hilarious xD it's funny how such a great writer can draw so incredibly bad. They're all chibi and look nearly the same. xD
And Name-Hattori looks totally crazy such fat round lips and such big eyes! He looks like freakin' HATCHAN! (no kidding, he even has the same hair style)
I can't believe that freakin DEATH NOTE had a name like that. All chibi and stuff. I'd LOVE to see some scenes in name-form from Ohba.
-
i can tell you one thing
whatever happens in the upcoming chapters, they WONT be leaving jump
a comic in shonen jump advertising another manga magazine is just not gonna happen

What do you expect? He's a writer, not an artist.

I didn't expect anything. :wassat: I just thought it was funny how rather serious manga like Bakuman and Death Note looked so "cartoonish" in Ohba's names.
-
Well, they speculate that Ohba might have been a girl mangaka witha rather decent popular gag manga which name I can't remember.
And everybody knows gag manga don't need drawings. -
I believe you're referring to
, done by Gamou Hiroshi. -

I supposed a fictional magazine..

Fail. They're going to fail again..

Who the hell is "Minato-san". Is it MIura aNd hATTOri? Cause that's forced as hell.
