So this is the first time I'm reading Water 7 in full. sigh With all this happening, I can't even look at my wall paper (All 9 strawhats happy-go-lucky) without feeling weird.
-
I don't remember if it was mentioned in any of the earlier issues … but VIZ is using haki.
I'll go vomit now.
-
- follows suit *
-
When will they learn that the proper term is Willbition Haki!
-
exactly .
-
@Zach:
I'm not going to say I compete with that, but I've been to Jason (EGX's) house before, and his is far scarier (to the point where you wouldn't wanna compete for it, but I fear for both your wallets. Wallets! Hide!).
It isn't thaaaaaat scary.
-
do not deny

"Ni-chan" in Bokurano and now this… ugh
-

LOL that's what I'm talking about
As for collections, I've got 0-30 right now, a couple of random Japanese tanks, and a bunch of WSJ's (including the Cross Epoch issue that everyone seems to have lol).

all color walksDo you ship to Denmark?
-
Luffy's gonna go on a training arc after every story arc to increase his haki by 1000%.
-
Can't we just call it Spirit?
It sounds a lot cooler then "Ambition" and it won't upset the people that hate "Haki". Plus it makes 1000x more sense, his spirit is so powerful that he can knock people out. -
Just thought I'd mention that volumes 39-42 are reserved for my order on rightstuf, meaning that they're ready to ship. Unfortunately it says that volume 43 is still "on order from manufacturer" which means that my volumes can't ship early until 43 arrives. I wonder why 43 didn't arrive with 39-42? Anyways, looks like the next batch of Water Seven will soon be mine.
-
My collection's kind of all over the place (all of them are English), since it covers volumes 1-5, 10, 11, 15-17, 20, 25, 33, and 34 (going to get volumes 42 and 43 when they come out), plus a bunch of Shonen Jump issues that cover the Arlong and Krieg arcs, Whisky Peak, and Little Garden.

is jealous, I hope book depository will ship my April volumes in a few days, I want to get them before April but that's not going to happen xD

Who really cares if people get mad call it what it is theres no use trying to translate it into something else.

Seriously folks…
I guess we've gotta change the name again:
The Spirit of the Willbition Haki of the Disposition of the Houshoku Conquerking Overlord.
We all good now? Are we going to say that instead of any other of it's incarnations whenever it comes up (that includes YOU FUNimation and Toei!)? Good. -
What is "retarted" is not translating a word when you clearly can.
And I bet Viz won't even have a translation note.
-

Why can't we just be "Nakama"!?
! Nakama, nakama, nakama… NAKAMA!!

YER we shount translte nything just leave it all cuse trsndelaytrfing stuff makes it sound UNCOOL
Which of course is a cardinal sin since coolness weighs far more heavily then understanding the story.
-

My order the same way, and I usually have all 5 volumes ship at one time. I hope 43 status changes really soon.
-
Haki is haki it can't be anything else. If Haki was ambition than every one with ambition would be kicking admiral ass. No matter what you translate it to nothing other than haki will be acceptable because it only exist in the one piece verse. A Haki punch will not be an ambition punch nor a willpower smack.
-
Oda obviously wants us to think it has something to do with ambition since that's the word he used. How difficult is that to understand.
-
It's not but your suggesting that haki is ambition not that it has something to do with ambition.
-
I'm suggesting that Oda hasn't revealed enough about how ambition works for anyone to assume they can use a different word or not translate it and leave it at that.
When the eventual explanation comes, Viz would have been much better for leaving it simply as ambition.

Whoa…if I'm reading this right, your APRIL VOLUMES already shipped, or they're about to!?
Man, that's awesome. I still have 7 volumes I'm waiting for….not INCLUDING the April volumes, and only 5 of those (30, 32, 34-5, 37-8) are "reserved for my order" (23 and 30, still on order with mfg, apparently)...
-

ugh.
Seriously.1/10
-

Well, y'know haki is ambition. It's a direct translation. There's no dancing around it. At. All.
So lemme see, you're saying that haki should not be translated haki but left haki. haki. -
So, they properly translate "nakama", but they don't translate "haki"?
Tsk tsk tsk.
-
@Badass:

So lemme see, you're saying that haki should not be translated haki but left haki. haki.Im just saying that, that punch was full of ambition is really confusing/miseading to someone who doesn't lurk forums. It's very possible that haki will get a definition and it won't be desire for rank, fame or power.
So to make it less confusing just leave it as Haki becuase it is a technique called Haki not a desire for rank, fame or power.
-

Yes, there is.
Because it's a Japanese word, not an English one, so it SHOULD be translated.
@Muah:Why can't we just be "Nakama"!?
! Nakama, nakama, nakama… NAKAMA!!
No.
SUPER FRIEND
-
LOL yes, Super Friend indeed. Nakama…this word clearly means so much more...this is a friendship so complex, it doesn't even get a word...it deserves....a symbol >=)
So tell me….would you like to be my friend?
-

So basically you want English readers to be in the dark compared to Japanese readers.
-
viz is releasing the color walk but its 100 bucks. I assume the color walk is something amazing or just more overpriced one piece bullshit?
-
What? We've already gotten the first volume years ago, I paid around £20 for it. What are you talking about?
They're art books full of the colour illustrations from shounen jump + extra stuff.
-
Strange. Volumes 39-42 have officially shipped for me, but 43 is being placed on backorder. Oh well, guess I'll be getting four of the five Aprill volumes by Monday or sooner!

;–-;
I really hope I'll get soon.
And I still haven't recieved vol 36, should have arrived by now.. -
Okay, I want someone to tell me the good things about the Viz translation.
I've seen a lot of bad things, mostly 4Kids terms and really annoying censorship.
Yet I see all these white-knights going on about Viz being excellent, yet they never say why.Convince me it's worth the money.
-
What censorship? They don't censor anything, maybe a few curse words.
They only censor things in the JUMP versions, not the volumes.
And the only 4Kids terms are Zolo and Roguetown. -

It's worth the money because Eiichiro Oda wrote a great manga and it's worth reading, even with a couple minor changes.

You were saying? Is it true that Zoro's bounty poster wasn't edited in the actual volume though?

That's a weak argument and you're weak for saying it.
-

Ouch, that hurts, that hurts. Seriously, if you like reading One Piece, there's no good reason you shouldn't pick it up. I'd say it all depends on how much you like it. However, if you're a nitpicker and give a shit about small details, then you may wanna stay away.

Sorry, but that was the only argument I was seeing.
sigh I guess I can just adjust my mind so I don't see crap like Kami (seriously Viz?) Zolo, and town names being completely different.
So the art edits are only in the Jump versions?
-
Art is only changed in Jump.
And it's really easy to not notice name changes. I haven't seen something that annoyed me too much.
I thought "Zolo" was really bad when I heard they use it, but when reading I hardly notice it. I just read names the way I know them, like "Kami Eneru" as "God Enel"As for the Cocoyashi Village, I forgot about that. But I don't think there are any other name changes for places (and very little for characters, only ones I recall are Zolo and Big Bun.
-
Kami was actively jarring every time I read it in the viz books.
And they used it in the "Fear is God" line, one of my favourite parts of the arc.
Haven't been as bad since though, "Real ponigliff" is their only moron moment that's still ongoing.
-

The art edits are only in the Jump versions, the Kami thing is the only thing annoying about the speed-up translations as far as I'm concerned (apparently it's okay to say gods but not god? Anti-polytheism much?) and town names don't seem changed after the East Blue Saga. The thing is, VIZ was running concurrently to the 4Kids translation at the time so they wanted to be consistent, now they don't have to be consistent with the VIZ translations and by keeping things like 'Zolo' and 'Kami' they are just covering their asses from legal issues (seriously, soccer mom's are insane, just look at Toonami during the 1990s-early 2000s). They don't even say Zoro's name all that much, and when you do it's an easy thing to read over as Zoro, I mean it's just the stem of a letter difference. If you want, every time you see it you can draw the little piece of the r on the l. And Loguetown is only mentioned maybe two or three times after the actual arc, so who cares about that, same with Cocoyashi. Yes there are some problems, but not enough to ruin the story for me, that's what's important. If you like One Piece, you'll like the manga! These volumes are fine if you don't care about the small shit, or if you like coming into VIZ threads and complaining about the small shit. At least you'll have a leg to stand on if you say: "I spent money on this and I don't like it."
-
All in all, they don't change the plot and important things. So go buy it.

Enel being a psychopath who thought he was God was changed. That was fairly important for skypeia.
