@GEEPPETTOMONSTER:
Personally I think the best shonen series out there is : HxH not because of it's artstyle but because how it's written. Togashi takes the most simplistic of shonen cliches and wipes his ass with them.
IMO in order for anyone to understand why HxH are amazing they must read a lot of Shonen before that (not just OP, Naruto, Bleach and FT). That way people will know and see how other mangaka handled the Shonen cliche' and archetype and then see how Togashi handled it with HxH. That was one of the reason I can't seems to picked which one is better between OP and HxH because while Oda perfected the cliche' and archetype (there's nothing wrong with perfecting what has already been established in Shonen), Togashi mess around, mixing stuff, and experimenting, with the archetype and cliche'.
I like how Togashi mess around with "Retrieval" arc and take another direction on handling it, how he develop the source of power (Nen) of this series in "Training" arc (not to mention how detail and interesting Nen is), how he took different approach in the "Revenge" arc by mixing it with other (interesting) stuff going on in that particular arc, how he creatively mesh "Searching" arc with "Training"arc in an interesting setting. In the current arc we get to see him experimenting with symbolism, philosophical and psychological battle (while most Shonen relies on straight forward action).
Of course, this is all hit and miss. Some people just prefer the generic way of handling Shonen (that's what Bleach and FT are there for you). Some prefer to see something different (HxH) and better (OP).
