Supposedly it does get released in Canada, but I highly doubt it. It could also mean that other countries that get the US Manga won't get the stickers.
New official Viz media topic V2.

-
A bit off topic, but its the general Japanese R-L situation, so I'm gonna mention it. The opposite of this happened with Hellsing. Specifically with Alucard.!
Even stranger, the Japanese prounounce Alucard, 'Akado'.
Which in my opinion sounds almost nothing like Alucard, go figure. -
I just realized something. Viz is probably gonna change Sodom and Gomorrah's names.
-
Cuz of the religous reference? They may at the very worst spell them differently since Viz hasn't been THAT picky with changing names.
-
Saul will also probably be changed to Sauro/Sauru.
-
Or they might change it to Saurodes.
tee hee.
Anywho, picked up the remaining batch of volumes from January. Ganfor is odd, but oh well.
-
The Books & Co. by my place seems to get manga early, so towards the end of February is when I'm getting the next speed-up batch. Man, I can't wait~
-
According to this article Viz will be spelling it as Saul.
-
Got an email from Amazon. The release date of vol 54 has changed to August.

hmm kinda wierd but maybe they're gonna try and do bimonthly releases after the speed up. I just hope we don't return to the god awful schedule we had before the speed up.
-
Viz REALLY deserves a break after releasing 30 volumes over 5 months.
-
Going to the four volumes a year after this will be a fine, consistent pace. We'll be like only four or five volumes behind come June, and that's a good spot.
-
_< Why would anyone assume Viz would change the names of Soddom, Gomorah, and Saul? Because they're Biblical names? I guess Mathew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, Esther, David, Solomon, and just about every other name you find in the Bible would be off limits by that logic XD
-
Also, maybe 54 will still be out in July. They even mentioned it in the magazine in the march issue.
As much as they "deserve" a break, they can't go with less than 4 volumes a year or they fall back behind again and they let the magazine get waaaaay ahead of the volumes.
I'm kind of concerned with that because naruto is already going to be 10 months ahead of the volumes in the magazine because they've pushed Naruto to a 1 volume every 4 month release….so that's 3 volumes per year =/

Saul isn't a problem. Viz might have issues with Sodom and Gomorrah because those were the names of two ancient cities that were notorious for their immorality and villainy. I just brought it up because Viz seems like they'd have problems with those names if they won't let delusional Eneru call himself God.
-
Oh yeah, I know what Sodom and gomorrah were…I just didn't think it would be a problem, but I get it.
-
I just got 29-33 today. I like the Zoro slip they did. My only peeve is that Volume 32 is titled Water 7 when 4/5 of it is Skypiea.
-

They kept Jesus Burgess' name the same (even if they changed Auger's; Teach's was a minor edit, but Auger's name in the Viz version (Ogre) is nothing like his original name), so I don't think they'll change Sodom and Gomorrah.

I actually think viz's translation of Van Ogre/Auger is closer to the original, considering the character's name romanized is Van Ōgā.
Also, Viz's site has been updated with Skypiea part 4.
http://onepiece.viz.com/sagas/skypiea/4/
The release calender has also been expanded to include February and all the site updates that will happen this month. -

Learn some Japanese first. It's most likely Auger/Augur because there was a pirate by the name of John Auger/Augur.
Can't recall what the correct spelling is right now.
-

Well, since he's a Mexican wrestler, they probably kept it because Jesus (pronounced HAY-seuss) is a common Spanish name. I know that Oda's original pronunciation is like the name of God's Son, but Viz probably left it due to the aforementioned Mexican relation.
Personally, I'd love it if they didn't edit any more names. I'm fine with Oh Come My Way, I can tolerate Kami, but if they call Sodom and Gomorrah Solomon and Goliath or something like that, I'll have a laughing spell the size of Canada.

Probably because the Water Seven storyline (Davy Back Fight included) starts in that volume. I agree it is pretty strange to do when the entire volume, save for two chapters is Skypiea.
They did the same thing for volume 50 too, giving it the subtitle, Sabaody, when most of it is clearly Thriller Bark.
-

Yeah, I noticed that on the site. It makes absolutely no sense.

Ugh, don't remind me with how they made that cover 65% less badass because of that.

Yeah, way to ruin the worst cover in recent memory Viz.
-
The volume 50 covers is actually the thing I've liked least about Viz next to Zolo…that volume is almost entirely Thriller Bark...and would've looked so great with the red title and black background DX
-
They could just shorten the names of Sodom and Gomorah to something like Sodo and Gomo. They wouldn't be as nice as the originals but oh well..
Aren't the names mentioned in the sbs, though. How would they do that if they change the names?
-

I assume Oda's intention was Auge/Auger, because its a pun using the German word for eye.
Something else that sailed straight over Viz's head. -
They won't change those names.
-
My vol. 32's status on rightstuf has been changed from On Order From Manufacturer to Reserved for your order. =D I guess it'll be shipping soon.
-
I got the Anime Source pamphlet with the second Dragon Box today and there was a full-page ad for the speed-up. Kinda neat that Funimation is promoting it.

Yeah I got that a week ago, it is pretty cool. I wander if any one is hyped up to get these volumes because of that.
-

Really, "Ogre" is a proper Romanization. I looked up the phrase in Google, and results come up for Augur AND Ogre.
The fact of the matter is, the whole "His name Means Eye in German" thing is something the fans came up with. Until Oda writes it or says it it simply isn't true.
-
Well Oda as written Zoro and they keep putting Zolo in viz version i only have up to volume 20 so i dont know if they changed it

Then I'll use the "Ogre sounds stupid for a thin gentlemanly sniper character" card.

It remains Zolo in volume 33… Everything before that one still remains Zolo except one time that Chopper says it once as "Zoro" on account of something in his mouth.

Well my psychic powers are still not advanced enough to accurately claim Oda's mindset.
But considering Oda's penchant for naming characters after famous pirates, John Auger seems the most sensible explanation.
The German pun may just be a lucky bonus, who knows.Viz has fumbled both though, oh well he's not exactly a huge character, at least they haven't messed with the name of anyone important….
-

Something else that sailed straight over Viz's head. :sad:I find it funny that his name is Van Oger in the german version. They didn't seem to get the pun in their own language xD.
-
Do we know how the admirals will be named? Aokiji or Blue Pheasant or both?
-
On the description for volume 34 on viz's website, they use Aokiji.
-
In Vol. 32 it is indeed Aokiji, when he makes that little cameo on his bike. Kizaru's staying the same according to the volume descriptions, and presumably Akainu as well.
-

Auge is the German word for eye. In German if you add the suffix -er to the end of a word it's like adding "one who does…" or something like that. Therefore adding -er to Auge gives you Auger, or "One who uses his eyes", and he's a sniper. Plus the aforementioned real life pirate.

Zoro is named after François l'Olonnais
We don't call him l'Olonnais Zoro do we?

That could potentially be a coincidence. I'd say the real pirate has a good chance of being true, but I doubt Oda was thinking of "Auge" in German.
When I look up "Auger" in Japanese the way Oda writes it, I get this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auger as the first result (This is the English wiki page for the Japanese Wiki page) and the second result is a mythological creatures index for "Ogre".
But as was said before, we have no way of knowing what was going on in Oda's head until he answers an SBS.
-
Auger makes the sense here, Ogre doesn't.
-
Does it even really matter? It's stupid. It wasn't officially romanized so it could go either way, whether it makes sense or not, because it all depends on Oda.
If "Roronoa" was never romanized, people would be saying "l'Olonnais" is correct and "Roronoa" makes no sense.
Besides, it's close enough anyway.
-

It's close when you ignore the OGRE connotations for no reason that I assume is that you aren't a native english speaker.
GUYZ "BEANS" "SPLEENS" IT SOUNDS THE SAME LOL
-
On VIZ's site they use the name Zoro, will they change it to Zoro in future volumes?
Also, I really love Van Auger (and the blackbeard pirates), but I don't care that much about the change, it's really similar, and I know his name is (probably) Auger, so what does it matter if I see him as Ogre in english volumes?Edit:
Well, on viz.com they use Zoro, but on onepiece.viz.com they use Zolo. -

Uum, what?… suddenly everyone's name has to have meaning? Then I guess Jesus Burgess is really Enel's Son... (Jesus = God's son) and Gan Fall's name must really be "Gun Fall" and he is really a sniper... (Gan = Gun. watch Gurren Lagann)
And Wiper... Ok, lets not even GET INTO that...It really never crossed your minds that his name might JUST be a name?...
-
This is the One Piece fandom.
EVERYTHING must be lifted from a real life thing, apprantly.
-
As lots of characters' names in OP are taken from real people, and names also often end up having a deeper meaning, it's natural to assume that this is another one, since it's so fitting. It COULD be another "steal the light", but it would make more sense if it was intended Auger/Augur, imo.
