Wow Kishido. Just wow

There's also no sound coming out of his mouth, nor are there any sound effects on that page. (Pointed out by CCC).
I've seen that type of pain before.

I think its because he subconsciously didn't want to think of it as a possibility. It wasn't possible to him, he 'knew' he would live so there was no point in crying and than the moment Aces card burned up the realization hit him like a ton of bricks and he fainted from it.
Yeah, at the very best he's in state of shock.
Realistically speaking, i'm not expecting anything else from Luffy in this war.
Guys.
This is Luffy's flashback.
Every Strawhat is allowed one death, right? It's their actualizing event; the moment that gives them their passion, and in some cases their lives. We assumed that the maiming of Shanks/Zeff stood in for Luffy/Sanji.
I think Ace's death (and I do think he will stay dead) will mark the change in Luffy from "Heh! I like this idiot rookie!" to a pirate more mindful of consequences and more grimly determined to protect those under his charge.
Also- I find it interesting that Ace's capture AND death were both results from his need to preserve the honor of Whitebeard. Is this meant to be a fault in him? Are we supposed to agree with the Shanks way of doing things, who allows his honor to be impugned despite his immense strength, or is Ace a straight-away golden child on this one?
Still sad that Ace never display any forms of haki, maybe even Roger's one to whow what the king had.
Marco, Jozu and Vista showed us that they can use haki and be top fighters… now I really can see Zoro using haki too and Sanji probably as well if Oda let him keep up with them in the future
@Darkstorm: I wonder what the look on your face has been like since yesterday. Maniacal grin, yes? :P
I just realized that Ace never used his knife before he died. He also never recovered his hat (but I remembered that).
I don't know what to say about this chapter, I'm shocked. I liked that Oda finally decided to kill someone but why it had to be Ace… now I feel like the entire Impeldown part was useless, exept if Boa joins or some prisoner from ID joins straw hats. I read the translation first and after that I didn't even bother to look the pages... because I know if I had I would have started to cry. But this gives me a question: Will WB also die? I mean, there is no longer need to save Ace but he still needs to get rest of his crew to safety. So will we see deaths of two "major" characters on this arc?
I loved that knife and hat.
lol Darkstorm. As expected. :P
HOLY. SHIT.
I knew Oda could outsmart everyone!
So he spent 10 years making everyone think he would never kill a main character. He then set this arc up making it look like Ace would get out alive, only to turn around and kill him a chapter later. This officially sets a much darker tone for the next half of this series. And I think it will be an interesting ride. The fun and games are over… Luffy's about to be changed permanently now. I need to see the look everyone is talking about.
This makes the current Bleach spoilers seem like nothing (although that event is something too).
Now that that is all out of the way, R.I.P., Ace, R.I.P.
And let Luffy blow Akainu to shit.
What the…? Oda went and killed of Ace? Boy was I wrong.^^
The only thing that bothers me with that development is that this way Ace really was a disappointment throughout the entire series since he never lived up to his hype. In the end, an overall badly written character.
The only way to still achieve that is if Oda would go with the revival theme which would really be the worst move he could use. So either way Ace being really dead or Ace getting revived this guy has pathetic disappointment written all over his face. Perhaps he really should never have been born.
As sad i can see this scene is (i mean, it's my favorite character dying), Luffy's expressions seems narmish to me that it almost ruined it (he looks like a Pac-Man :-<).
It's also strange for me because when i read OP i usually want to see Strawhat lose (because knowing that they almost succeed all the time) that i feel like that i want my favorite character to die just so i can see the results of it.
But don't worry, everything will be alright with Ivas hormones. IT HEALS EVERYTHING!.
Yeah, at the very best he's in state of shock.

Yeah I said it in the spoiler thread. I'm beginning to believe one of two things. 1: the next chapter will be after luffy wakes up from being unconscious and we will have a flashback by whoever saves him basically telling everyone what happened after Luffy fainted. or 2: no flashback needed and Luffy will just be carried out by someone, Jinbei, Hancock, Ivanokov, or the splinterred remains of the Whitebeard pirates, and we will see the finale of Whitebeards final suicidal attack on Marine HQ as it happens.
I mean we might have a final "Haki Burst" with him being unconscious, but not the beserker, rage defeat/harm everyone that others are suggesting, but just a statement type thing showing his unconscious sorrow. At this point Luffy is out of it, he will not do anything more this arc that is important, not till he has come to terms with the loss.

Maybe he'll just wake up. He's narcoleptic, after all.

Ace was less than fodder in retrospect to your ranting from this/last week :)
On a serious note before I go to sleep, this chapter was really well done. I mean, say what you want about Ace, but between Whitebeard crying, Garp struggling and crying, Ace and Luffy's final conversation, and all of those little flashback panels, this was one hell of a tear jerk-er. That last panel with Rouge was a very touching way to end the chapter, bringing everything that has happened full circle.

Well even in front of the other WB commanders like Vista, Marco and Jozu he seems a bit weak… i know he was young and so on. But he was hyped big times but never showed us, which make us believe his hype.
The other commanders completely overshadowed him with their skills and haki using.
incredibly sad chapter, but it is just what was needed. Really loved it.
I think what really makes me sad is not Ace's death by itself but the fact that his death means a total defeat for Whitebeard and a complete victory for these marine bastards. I mean, I would have been sad if Whitebeard was the only major loss of this battle but now let's face it, the old man failed in his goal. That's a pity…
And these damn words from that fuckin' Akainu about Whitebeard being a loser come to mind. I just hate it !
Luffy's gonna get wild, Dadan seems to be a "strong" person, good to see Sengoku trying his best holding on to Garp.
I assume that WB will return and escape with his crew, thinking: They've lost one of their most important nakama, I must not leave them too.
whats going wrong with cover story….........
I wonder if the other Strawhats are somehow seeing all of this and what there reaction would be.
OMG!!! I have no words! i didn't expect the death in this way and the death at all!
but most of all, what this could bring to? luffy super powers? awakening of haki? nothing?
i'm shocked!
we will see…
ps i don't believe that ace could be healed after, by some powers, he's really dead
for sure man. for sure… don't forget 100 chapter ace will also come back as a pacifista
He'll come back as a zombie next chapter and WB will die of a heart attack.
Do you really think Ace is dead??? Now way he will come back as Gol D Ace and kick some serious asses and fianally live to the name of his father.
BTW Jinbei is upper bad-ass this chapter
I have really wished for a while this war to end but after Akainu being such a bitch in the last few chapters I'm really hoping that someone will beat crap out of him before the pirates escape. I feel so sorry for Luffy WB and others right now. Maybe Marco the Phoenix will revive Ace with his healing tears - wait, that was from Harry Potter 8( Anyways, even Ace was one of my favourites I don't wan't to see anymore those Pell moments. Ace must stay death if Oda can't make his survival make any sence.
Damn it. Im gonna be sad all day long .. Why did this happend. I loved Ace soo much and now his dead :( NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO… F'ck i hate Akainu, i hope the day will come soon when Luffy kick's his ass real hard.. This chap killd my heart, i dont think i can live anymore ... :( Dear Oda please use some cool way to bring him back again :D
I just realized that Ace never used his knife before he died. He also never recovered his hat (but I remembered that).

Dang, if Moria used his corpse as a Mario that'd just be beyond the pale. Instant gear second gear third gigant gattling
All right, having read the translation and looked at the raws, I'm not crying but…DAMMIT, I'm close! :cwy:

Ace is an ignoranus sometimes. (Too soon?)
Let us reminisce about his epic battle against scorpion.
Truly his most famous victory.
i love fanboys/girls falling in despair.
Cry baby cry
Wow the first real on scene death
i guess that what ODA was saving it for
the pirate kings bloodline was passed on in that moment from ace to luffy
Luffy looks kinda like how he looked when he was poisoned
he looks like hes about to die as well
shit this chapter looks so epic
this is gonna change luffy we may not see it straight away but we will know about it when things get tough
with this and the lufys last adventure as a 17 year old i think we may get a mini time jump 6months or so for him to recover and maybe if unconcious wait for his crew to reunite with him
ODA been doing this for 10years plus now
the great man gonna change the new world
with wb dead soon marines will finally be able to charge
can't wait to see the aftermath
maybe in the next few chapters bb will pop up his head and finally make his claim towards the pirate king title
Let us reminisce about his epic battle against scorpion.
Truly his most famous victory.
Chip and Dip will never forget him.

How cruel! :cwy: Ace has only been through hardships since he was a baby~ Show some sympathy man!
:ninja: lol Sorry~ Couldn't find a video with only the baby falling down the cliff. But! I set it to play from the part I wanted it to~ Enjoy!
Anyone thinking that next chapter won't center the war anymore and we see them already have escaped?
And here I thought Going Merry's death was epic…this is...more, WAY MORE!
RIP Portgas D. Ace X`(
Let us reminisce about his epic battle against scorpion.
Truly his most famous victory.
That Scorpion was bloodlusted…Ace only won because of plot
Now let_'s see what Crazy D. Luffy can do.
Really sad chapter…........._
I love "Gol D. Ace" wankers. It's like a new target every day.
Vice-admirals: Vice Admiral Garp!
Sengoku: What are you trying to do, Garp?!
Garp: Hold me back like this, Sengoku. If you don’t…I’ll kill Sakazuki!
Sengoku: …..Fool!!!
Akainu: It’s necessary to punish traitors as well!
Garp is so gonna get punished.
Anyone thinking that next chapter won't center the war anymore and we see them already have escaped?
as of now this series can go in multiple directions..from a timeskip back on shabaody to a official escape from the remains of marineford :ninja:

Yep said as much last page. Although its merely a hypothesis though, it could go either way. Only thing im fairly sure of is Luffy is out for the count. Although it would seem somewhat anti-climatic I really want him to wake up far away from the scene next chapter, it would be the best sudden change pace that has graced this manga in a long while. I mean just a couple chapters ago people expected the arc to continue potentially for 5-8 more chapters with a Whitebeard flashback and Marineford HQ thrashing. The thought that a possible exit might happen sooner fills me with such joy as I have been one of the few that had become aggrevated about how much time had been spent on the 'diversion' and that it took away from the grander adventure. This ending both made this arc a welcome addition to the epic nature of One Piece and also brought about the actual end sooner rather than later. A win-win situation if you ask me.
Now that I've read the translation, with the pictures it actually made me pretty sa– wait. Opening 12.. just became hilarious. YAY FOOO~
Btw why did Ace have to stop Akainu's fist with his back and die, while Jimbei just stops the fist with his hand and still doesnt loose his hand.
In honor of Ace, I changed my avatar for some time…
So Oda don't trick me with him suddenly live once again -.-
R.I.P Ace even if you hasn't show us your full potential and you were living way below our and the expections of others
Btw why did Ace have to stop Akainu's fist with his back and die, while Jimbei just stops the fist with his hand and still doesnt loose his hand.
Cuz Jinbei wasn't that dumb… Sorry for being harsh. But Ace relied to much on his fruit and others like Vista, Jinbei and Marco showed how to fight Akainu or how to stop his attacks
