This has just occured to me.If anyone reading this post has ever played a game called Tales of Symphonia you might recognise a similar theme here of two adjacent world's competing for mana. One world is healthy and growing while the other is desolate and declining. And the other world is in the sky above the clouds….
Next thing will be the two world's were once one and they'll merge them back together... if that happens this is offically a rip-off.
Fairy Tail

-
I'm sure that idea has been around before Tales

I don't get the hate on the anime either. It's doing a really good job IMO. nly thing annoying me is the lack of blood, which does make the battles seem a little less impacting, but it doesn't make the anime bad in any sense.
In fact, the latest episode was the best episode so far. Really good art/animation for FT standards, great voice acting by Lyon and Gray, great music… you get the picture.
look at any random episode of SE and tell me if FT anime is doing a good job.

This isn't Soul Eater, it's Fairy Tail. SE is a completely different series with a completely different style, so you can't compare the two and use it as an argument.
I'll tell you again. It's doing just fine.

An' I'll tell you it's not.

Soul Eater's a bad example, since BONES deviated from the manga around three-fourths of the way in, and the whole thing ended prematurely and no doubt differently than the still-ongoing manga.
This week's episode was pretty good. Some nice effects and they actually animated Gray and Lyon's brawl. I hope they keep this up through the future story arcs.
-
What's so great about Soul Eater?
Is it really better than Fairy Tail? -
I was talking about the animation, FT's animation needs some work.
-
^It's not that hard to do, but yeah. Soul Eater is pretty good. The manga is just very "wordy".
As for the FT anime… I thought it sucked. After 3 episodes I was convinced that the anime refused to even try mimicking Hiro's expressive style and perspectives. They seemed lazy, and the addition of recycled startup animations and CG magic and magic circles were a turnoff.
-

I agree with that, but you can't judge something solely based on its animation. If you went by that, half the episodes of One Piece would be terrible, as often we get some low grade animation teams (some great ones too), but that's not the case.

oh but come on everyone knows you can judge and entire series on 3 episodes. close teh book on this show, it is doomed and pathetic.

Thanks, and there are many more examples from both old and new episodes as well.
Point in case = bad art/animation doesn't make an episode bad. Sure, it subtracts in quality, but you can't say a series is terrible just because of that. One Piece got much better though as time went on, and I expect the same for FT.
The latest episode had some pretty good art and animation compared to usual.
-
I wish one piece was redone once it is over, no filler, great animation, no padding, no slow pace to comentate in the battle.
-
The problem with FT anime isn't only the blatant (lack of) animation, reused scenes and bad art, typical traits of japanese animations.. it's doomed to the core. It's horribly directed (sometimes i wonder if the guys behind it are pros), very very toned down/childish, and it seems to do an effort to make every single flaw in Mashima's narrative way more evident.
The manga isn't all that great, but at least it's addictive. The anime just fails at everything. Ok, maybe the bgms are good. -

Like DBZ Kai? Yeah, I hope that happens…

Are you being sarcastic? In most cases, the first three episodes of a show cover, at the most, seven chapters of manga (a whole episode devoted to the first chapter; generally three chapters per episode at the most after that). Can you honestly say that most series can be deemed "good" or "bad" after less than a volume of material? For reference, seven chapters covers the Captain Morgan arc for One Piece, or the first volumes of Naruto and Bleach.
-
Fairy Tail anime is an poor adaptation to a poor manga…
At very best FT is mediciore and I read and have read many many mangas...

I always give an anime 10 episodes or so before making a judgment. Because sometimes studios are a little relunctant at first and may censor more things than normal, and the VAs take a little time to warm up into their role.
-
The most disapointing thing in the anime was all the magic circles on every single frikin thing. I want the anime to be great and its pretty good, but the idea to the series isn't that it takes 2-3 seconds for a magic seal to form around wherever a char uses magic. I hope it was only in order to appeal to fancy imagery and is taken out after a few more episodes
-
Ahem… just in response to that OP screenshot earlier.
Not everyone holds the OP anime in perfect regard. Many do recognize that the OP's anime is shoddy on more than a few occasions.

Indeed. Yet this idea seems to baffle the denizens of this thread in their constant attempts to cover Fairy Tail flaws with One Piece comparisons.
Nobody really thinks the One Piece anime is that good. We've got entire threads dedicated to finding Toei's screw ups. The reason it's tolerated on this site is because it's fuggin One Piece.
Oddly enough though it's not allowed reference good anime quailty in comparison to FT. (i.e. The Soul Eater example a page back.) hmmmm
-
The complaints on this thread about the anime are nothing compared to the bawwwwing going on at the Fairy Law forums. People are complaining that the Galuna Island arc in the anime is too dragged out. I shit you not. Never mind the fact that the anime is blowing through 3-4 chapters an episode.

There are plenty of people who fawn over the amazing animation in the latest OP episodes. And I agree with your last sentence, I mean OP is superior because it has such a good story, but objectively I prefer the FT anime because it is more entertaining (mostly visually+pacing).

I'm sorry but no… the anime is not doing fine. In fact, I'm really starting to hate it. Visuals are nice at times, and the soundtrack is very good. But with the stabbings all taken out and replaced with gay magic attacks, no blood, and lack of the adult humor, it's a terrible adaption. If I didn't know better I would think 4Kids was paying to have this animated.
Seriously? No
You can't stab someone with a shadow, you can't grab a sword without cutting your hand, and Taurus was stripping Lucy… not playing "Roulette Punch". Mashima intended this for teens, not 5 year olds.
-
the only mangaka that has done it right with anime is kohta hirano. Want a good anime adaption? be part of the animation team.
-
I wonder how they are going to handle Midnight's nightmare… It would probally be replaced by them seeing an vivid images of a gay j-pop band with Midnight as the lead singer(lip synced).

I am not trying to make the anime out to be perfect, it's far from it. And I do agree that the lack of blood and the censoring is annoying.

the sword thing was cool but I got to give the animation department credit for creativity, having an ice lion shooting out of someones back…neat.
-
I'm not saying the anime is terrible. The action sequences even without blood are still nice to watch, and the unique humor they added does give it humor value. I just can't get get over the censorship because it just belittles the series so much. Basically it's the exact same feeling you get watching a 4Kids episode of one piece if you've seen the original :/

While I can't quite agree with that, what I find more silly was how they kept the dialog the same. Like "You can still move with that wound?" or "I better seal this." Were those dirt marks really causing him that much pain? ._.

Well essentially something did pass through his rib, so you can argue that the pain is almost the same, but just doesn't look as graphically disturbing.
Kind of like in Bleach how Rangiku's wound from the moose monster was severely censored from literally her entire side being torn out to shredded clothes, a little blood and a badly bruised rib cage. But the dialogue was left the same, Momo asking Kira to ignore her despite all the bones in her body being broken and Kira even comments that Rangiku's been injured from her lungs to her intestines.
You still get a similar grasp of the situation, yet at the same time it just doesn't affect you the same without the blood. Which is why I don't like the censoring FT is doing, and is probably the only thing I will strike negative on it, and any other censoring.

Yeah this why I quit ft anime it's tooooo toned down. If you look closely even the character designs look childish. Blood always makes a anime better nuff said.

If the blood is done right.
-
Hm, I think they've handled it a little bit better than stuff like, oh, Bleach's gallons of spit and everyone freaking out over Rangiku's mildly bruised side. I let the Kageyama one slide because the guy who hit him had penetration-type magic, and I guess an ice lion is more creative than just a flash or hand or something. Not perfect, but there've been worse.
I don't care if they tone down the fanservice either, since much of it is quite gratuitous and mood-breaking anyway.
-
I hate that sound effect that plays in the anime whenever something remotely "sexual" is shown ( the anime has fan service it's just not out in the open, it's what I like to call closet fan service)
speaking of bleach anime, syzael eating his fraccion. In the manga he grabbed one of his men crushed the poor guys face and ate him like the guy was beef jerky. Yet in the anime he turns the guy into a energy ball than eats him….the only cannon part of bleach than really pissed me off.
-
Wow, must have forgotten that. I checked it out and I'm surprised, lol.
Toning down on Bleach never started up until after the Bount arc. A few other examples I can think of are the beating Yammy gave when they had spit coming out, or when Yammy smashed his nurse into the wall and in the manga he smashed her in half, literally.
Thing is, Bleach still shows enough blood, unlike Fairy Tail.

Isn't it standard nowadays (however much it sucks) to do this censoring on these kinds of shows? OP also had the spikes removed on the ID guard's club and all the blood, from what was said Bleach has the same.
-
By contrast, One Piece shows a shitload of blood for being a child's cartoon, even in the Anime. What immediately comes to mind is the episode/chapter where Luffy is climbing Drum Rock with his bare hands and his hands start to bleed.
In fact, the only big edit I can think of is of Zeff losing his foot. They changed it to his foot getting caught in an anchor rather than him being forced to eat it.

Yes, have you not read the early One Piece? He gave Sanji the last of the food and ate his own foot to survive in the manga. In the Anime, his foot got caught in some wreckage while he was rescuing Sanji and he was forced to server it with a nearby anchor chain.

I've read some parts of the early manga but misted zeff munching his leg.

ha so what did you somehow think he survived a month without eating anything. but whatever, give fairy tail time. (if it does become long running)
i mean hell it is true to the manga story wise so far, better than the beginning of one piece can say. I mean hell look at one piece begginning they changed it up big time. From the Alvida thing, when flashbacks were shown, to as said Zeff's leg.
As for blood? Really come one, besides 2 times blood doesn't matter. Besides the grabbing of Erza's sword and this beast coming out durig this leon/gray fight the rest not having blood has been fine. Sure blood would be better, but i never even noticed until now. Guess i wouldn't make a good hardcore gamer huh, lol.
But also with this beast coming out instead of a sword. I feel the anime was correct, and Hiro screwed up in the manga. We learned that Leon uses magic that is alive and not static. So why only that one time woudl he use a sword and not something like what the anime did. But the missing of blood was just dumb for this, especially at end when he is using ice to stop the "blood", when he is just dirty, lol.
But you have to admit later in the fight when Gray whipped out the sword of Ice was just awesome and his Cannon was equally awesome if not more.

As I don't care much about the anime I don't trully care, but there's also:
- Luffy's cheek wound is self inflicted in his first apareance, but never explained in the anime.
- Ryuma stabs brooke in the eye socket as a finnisher in their first battle, he just stabs the tree in the anime.
- Something in Absalom vs Sanji, the backstabing or footstabing was removed in the anime.

also i think in the bugy fight when zoro lets that acrobat swordsman stab his wound in the manga it was actually Zoro himself that stabbed himself in the wound.

Well, they eliminate self inflicted wounds mostly..

Wow… I have to go reread the manga. Forgot about that.

in this case it was edited out due to a sting of stabbing murders earlier in the month that it aired. Since it was present in the foreign aired versions, it should be present in the DVD version.
To at least try and be on topic, anyone know the release dates of the Fairy Tail anime DVDs? I just wonder if they'll make any radical changes on them…
