I think the thing that most throws me off about this nerdrage is this: do the moaners actually think the other OP songs are mature, quality songs? They're ALL cheesy and generic-sounding. They're all done by flash-in-the-pan pop bands just to get some free promotion. They're all corny and silly and nothing like music that adults listen to when they're not just enjoying some silly music because it's from a show they love.
Gathering up all of our dreams
And going to search for our desires
A coin in the pocket, and
You wanna be my friend?
We are, we are on the cruise! We are!
The benchmark opening track, which would have played for episodes featuring tragic flashbacks where little girls tragically die from accidents and children's mothers are killed in front of them. Yes, it's deep, full of integrity and not at all cheesy and shallow. What? Engrish dragging it down to an even lower level? Fuck you dude!
How about the chorus to the song than ran along episodes that features a woman in chains being kicked around by an ego-tripping, corrupt government official. I must say, as I prepared for episodes featuring a woman in a miniskirt having her head and face stepped on and kicked by a man in a bondage mask, these lyrics really summed it up:
Run, run, further ahead than anyone
If you don't escape, you won't catch tomorrow
Chase, chase
Everything before your eyes
Mark it in your pure white heart
Brand new world start me up!
Brand new world start me up!
Brand new world start me up!
Yes. Woman being held captive, tortured and threatened with death = Brand new world start me up! and _The flowers growing on the roadside/_Will surely create a rainbow-colored path. Basically, it feels like many OP fans are "doing a Luffy" and stating the obvious way after it became obvious to everyone else.
