Why blame Ace…
It was thanks to the key that Luffy was running around AFTER he fell down.
If he wasn't holding onto that key, he wouldn't be running around and stuff...
When Oda gave him the key and refused to give it to another, it makes Luffy be the one to free Ace no matter what. I felt let down on that part...
No way, it's as Monkey put it;
You don't know luffy AGOG. If he hadn't the key he will try with his hands to break Aces chains.
@Zach:
I think the key actually had a devil fruit and will turn into some sort of mythical animal like a unicorn and destroy Marineford with its firebreath, and die of AIDS right afterwards.
Unicorns don't have firebreath. Blatant plothole right there. I think more of Oda then that.
I'd be funny if Hancock mixed up the Door of Justice activation key with the handcuff key. =]
She is already dumb enough. There is no need to make her that stupid Mmmmbug.

Dumb? No…she's just silly is all. Completely different.

Yes but think of the irony: the very key that would save the man who can turn into fire, kills the man by setting him on fire with its breath. Well it's either ironic or moronic, I'm sure it's one of those.
I know Luffy… He wouldn't have basically been up and running around with no reason except what he was doing prior to getting the key.
Remember the "You've done enough" stuff and such; it'd have been like that and then Oda can focus on other aspects to wrap up the whole arc...
Instead, Oda revived Luffy and gave him the haki blast because of the freaking key being in his damn hands...
Luffy has to be awake to see Ace's head removed from the immediate vicinity of his body.

Luffy was heading to save Ace from the very beginning, it had nothing to do with the key. This whole freakin saga (since Amazon Lily) has been about saving Ace. He would have done it with the key and he would have done it without the key. The key just makes him saving Ace slightly more plausible.
Luffy would save Ace no matter what.
The angst against the key makes no sense…unless it does indeed turn into some sort of unicorn.
Luffy has to be awake to see ace alive saved by his own hands.
Luffy has to be awake to see ace die by his own hands and Doflamingo sauntering up and laughing while he twiddles his fingers

Perhaps you haven't run into him yet, but agoogly has a habit of derailing threads.

And then using Ace's head as a Yoyo.
The new age is indeed good.

He wasn't the one that saved Robin by his own hands…
What kind of logic is that?
He can just be there and come close, but never see the end...
Or, place the trust of saving Ace on another person...
Instead, he is there running around doing haki blasts.
I recknon Ace'll live. eems to me like to much unnesscessary storytelling to kill
off Ace. if anyone's gonna die, it'll be WhiteBeard, which'll give Ace motivation

Seriously if you can't understand that luffy would do whatever it takes to save ace after the whole amazon lily and ID arc you should read everything again. If he can't i'm sure he will give someone else the keys. But even without keys he jumped from the moby dick into the battle to save ace. What's so hard to grasp? Are you retarded?

I see…I was just going to say what MM said, so I'll quote it instead:

and for good measure:
@The:
I keep forgetting that this is Arlong Park, the land of pointless arguments about One Piece.

The new age is indeed good.
the new age is indeed great. Long Island Ice Tea for everyone!!
except ace… who'd totally be fucking dead.
The first time I saw the name "AGOG" it made me think of the sound my cat makes before it yaks out a bitchin' hairball.
Enies Lobby had several keys, with only one being real. That was a planned group effort amongst the Straw Hats to save her. Luffy went into Impel Down on his own with the help of Hancock. He wasn't depending on his crewmates to help him out.
The point is Luffy's persistence to save Ace. He wouldn't give up saving him just because he didn't have a key. The fact that Luffy and Ace are so close, Luffy could not just lay there and see what happens. He's determined to save Ace no matter what, and he made a good move considering the Whitebeard Pirates are getting their asses kicked now.
I reckon the moment Whitebeard pops his clogs Ace will start wearing black mascara, listening to MCR and mumbling about all the pain in the world.
He'll then jump off a very tall building.
the new age is indeed great. Long Island Ice Tea for everyone!!

Moria will have his body doing the monster mash in no time.
headless zombie ace! With his hat on the stump
This hole happy to see your friends fighting for you thing while handcuffed behind your back, its a thing we all recognize. Oda wont kill him after that! It seems like he wants to live. Then he will live. WBs death is enough to shake the world.

Fascinating…
Look, ever think that Luffy could pass out sometime in the world?
Eh?
Maybe that makes him gain a stronger resolve so that shit like that doesn't repeat in the future?
Eh?
Maybe his ass can get some character development through this shit?
Eh?
Or you can keep on expecting Luffy to keep coming back and running around like Sasuke and shit...
Blasphamy! Blasphamy!
You every hear of dramatic structure?
The character faces some "turning point" after the rising action that changes the resolution; if that turning point becomes Ace dying, then Luffy would change his resolution by being a better freaking pirate or whatever…
Right?

"Without that key luffy would have had the chance to learn that fainting in the middle of a battlefield is a bad thing for someone who wants to become the next PK. Now he is like glossy black!!! THAT GODDAMN KEY" Urggggg nerd rage!
That's definitely Odas biggest failure.
Speaking of keys
[hide]@AGOG:
I know it will, I just hate that part of it…
Hope the key never comes back and just gets destroyed.
It's the only thing that forces Luffy to keep on being "awake" in the middle of the war.
I hate the key because it is the only notable reason why Luffy got a whole Haki blast last chapter out of his ass and stuff…
I was disappointed that haki blast happened and the blame goes to the key.
If the key would be "passed on" to another character, I wouldn't care, but it doesn't look like it.
Why blame Ace…

Wait till he grasps at that one troll hair and writes 1000 lines to make people faint from too much stupidity.
Seriously, you really don't get dramatic structure, do you?
Exposition
Rising Action
Climax
Falling Action
Resolution
Exposition is basically starting point with setting and goal introduced.
Rising action leads to the character either getting his ass whooped trying to get that goal, or cruising towards getting that goal with ease.
Climax would be the turning point; Character gets his ass beaten the shit out of, or Character wins big and seems like he will get everything that he wants…
Falling action is when the character (if he got his ass whooped) starts to develop and actually starts to succeed. Or, if he wasn't getting his ass whooped, he starts to get his ass whooped...
Resolution:
If he was starting to make progress in Falling action; a good event will come that ends up with a happy ending where he accomplishes his goal or something close to it.
If the opposite, then he utterly fails. Meaning he can even die for being a cocky bastard early on...
That's that shit.
What happens to Ace?
Probably him getting his ass whooped and dying because he was a cocky bastard.
Eh?
What happens to Luffy?
Since he is getting his ass whooped, he will basically succeed in the end and be better than he was in the beginning.
You want a "troll" reply, define how incapable you are to understand that a freaking KEY is pathetic... Aight?
There's no stated rule that Luffy needs to "see" Ace live for christ's sake.

Also, is that Bleach you're talking about?
I'm disappointed AGOG. Where is the 10 page argument in which you individually disect every letter and then use the bitter remains to prove your tortured point?
That being said, i don't see the need for a poll. WB will die, no doubt about it. I think he'll probably sacrifice himself at the very end to ensure safe passage for the remenants of his alliance to escape, and probably take most of Marine HQ with him or do a ton of damage to them.
This poll is also about when he will die….
I could also imagine Oda pulling him dying off screen...
Such as he managed to save Ace and then Luffy goes on different ship and later we hear of the news that Whitebeard died on ship few hours or days after the war. That way Oda could bend his rule of no deaths of current characters that have some plot about them.

In the Next Crew member talk concerning Perona…
Why would I bother with a freaking "key" and common sense...?
Also, is that Bleach you're talking about?
No dumbshit, Not BLEACH, but life…
Go read a damn book and come talk to me.
Plus, BLEACH fails at even doing this...
I understand dramatic structure, it was one of the things I majored in at school (English/Creative Writing), and I can tell you that your reasoning makes absolutely no sense. I would go point-by-point, but I'm not falling for that again.

You want me to break it done to every single interaction and panel…
That'd take ages to break down and then I'd be here for another 8 hours writing the same stuff.
That's the gist of it.
if things go smooth, they head downhill.
if they don't, they basically get better...
Ace was doing well, then he lost to BB and know things are going down hill...
Luffy isn't doing well and is getting his butt whooped, so he will basically do better later on.
Ace can become an anti hero who hunts down the shichibukai who killed his nakama, for example Moria stabbed Oars, when Ace will reform the WB pirates he can go and kick his ass.

Right?
Have you actually ever read a drama, like Macbeth or Hamlet ???
Yes, than where is the happy end you going on about ?? 8)
If Aces death is the climax in Luffy
s story, than Luffy will shorty afterwards improve (in the "falling action" section), but the conclusion will be, that he will die through some stupid accident, (something got wrong with the coating) just something thats inevitable, that
s why people call it "drama"!
BTW, if this war is like a drama, than everyone expect Blackbeard will die X)

What in hells name does that have to do with the key? What the hell does that have to do with the post above. Yes you're somewhat correct: if a drama/serious novel starts out with everyone happy it's likely to end in despair and vice verse. Unfortunately you can't just extract a single character out of a Shounen manga and assume that the same rules apply. These are very different situations. You can't assume that if Ace was once happy he won't be later, plus we know that's not exactly the case. If you read the Ace flashback and the Ace cover-stories you know that Ace was on a journey to find and kill Blackbeard. Of course he was heading for hardship, but that doesn't have anything to do with where we are now. Ace got caught and his fate at the hands of the World Government isn't necessarily dictated by past actions but instead by the course of events yet to come. I really don't have a clue as to what you're talking about. :getlost: Forget about the stupid key, it'll be okay. The key won't hurt you!
Luffy isn't doing well and is getting his butt whooped, so he will basically do better later on.
And his goal is to save Ace, there you go.
Ace wanted to die, but seeing everyone fight for him, he wants to live again. It's like with Robin. There is no dramatic downward spiral.
It's hard to say when he will die, or even if he will really die, or just "one piece die" = retire and be incapable of fighting anymore because of his wounds and old age.
the first couple of pages of this thread are hilarious, with Sammy's insults and all.
The "key" is annoying because it's there…
It has nothing to do with the key, more with the topic...
However, the "key" sucks.
I had one line about the key: "the key is stupid and such..."
My argument was that if it wasn't for the freaking key, Luffy'd be passed out.
It isn't that hard to let him stay knocked out... However, there's a "device" that forces him to come back... In this case it was the key. In Kuro arc, it was Nami waking him up...
If it wasn't for the key, he'd be resting and such.

This is coming from someone who has a One Piece podcast, so listen carefully:
Leave your house, meet some people, and get away from your computer.
I predict that Ao Kiji and Kizaru will go after WB now that they dealt with Marco and Joz, WB will fight equally against the 3 admirals and he will prove why he is the strongest, meanwhile Luffy will rush in and he will be blocked by Sengoku, while Sengoku is distracted with Luffy, Buggy will use his flying hands to grab Ace and Garp will pretend that he didnt see. Mr3 creates a key. Ace is free..Buggy is the pirate hero ! how is that ?!

NEVER
He will live in out hearts.
