Yeah I think that's right.
Chapter 569 "Monster" Discussion
-
Yeah I think that's right.
-
-
Pfft!…don't be hating on the supernovas.
I like supernovas..especially Kidd, but 4 of them were owned easily by an admiral, they have no place here, the best thing they can do is beat some pacifistas.
-
**People grow and change. You're deliberately ignoring everything Oda has thrown into your face just because you don't like it. There have been too many hints in the manga for Luffy and Hancock not to hook up later on, probably at the end of the manga.
By your logic Goku would have never married Chichi.** In fact, there'll probably be a similar moment.
Oda's most recent interview:
- I like to draw party scenes. So I don’t want to draw anything that would ruin that atmosphere. And this is a manga for boys so I won’t draw anything about relationships. I get a lot of letters from female readers asking me to cover some kind of relationship but if that’s what you want to read, go read a girl’s manga, that’s not my job. I don’t care if someone falls for Luffy, but it’s something that would be over before you know it. But knowing Luffy, I don’t think that kind of thing would be a problem. (laughs)
-
Heh, it would be funny if Hancock grew resentfull of Luffy because he keeps being oblivious of her feelings.
Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned
-
Oda's most recent interview:
I think Oda was mostly referring to onscreen romance, however I doubt Oda would count offscreen weddings or things like that. He's basically saying don't expect scenes of the SH making out.
-
**Like I said before, don't take those words so literally. Obviously what Oda means is that romance isn't going to play a big part in the story. Because, if we go by the logic you're using, Oda has already broken his word with Roger and Rogue. Or Yassop and Banchina.
I think Luffy and Hancock will eventually hook up, but we probably won't see much more than Luffy sailing to Amazon Lily. I don't think we'll actually see the romance involved at all.**
-

This pretty much. It'll probably be an offscreen thing, same for Kaya and Usopp.
-
I don’t care if someone falls for Luffy, but it’s something that would be over before you know it
Keep ignoring this sentence guys.
-
You know there is the couples thread, you can continue there if you like.

Showing that characters have parents isn't the same as having characters hook up in present time.
-
Keep ignoring this sentence guys.
With the way he's handling this and constantly showing Hancock fawning it would take a near ass pull to have her fall out of love with him. It'd be like admitting that the whole thing was a plot device to get Luffy to ID.
-
With the way he's handling this and constantly showing Hancock fawning
Well at least you recognise it is a completely one-sided "relationship"
Which is where Oda's "I don't give a fuck if anyone falls for Luffy, it's over before you know it" comes in~!
it would take a near ass pull to have her fall out of love with him.
No one cares about that terrible character anyway. This isn't The Hancock Adventures.
It'd be like admitting that the whole thing was a plot device to get Luffy to ID.
Which is essentially what it was.
-
Keep ignoring this sentence guys.
I seem to recall a certain interview about flying people were blowing out of proportion.
Showing that characters have parents isn't the same as having characters hook up in present time.
**Did Oda ever mention anything about present time? Oda said "I won't draw anything about relationships." and Roger/Rogue and Yassop/Bachina were in a romantic relationship with each other.
It should be common sense not to take these interviews 1000% literally anyway, they are more guidelines than anything.**
-

Oda saying he doesn't care doesn't change the fact that he's the one choosing to constantly show it, what I'm saying is that more than likely he'll leave that running gag going and at the end of the series give it an open ended resolution. I don't think Oda would keep showing this but then give it a sloppy resolution of her suddenly falling out of love. The same would go for Kaya and Usopp, Oda won't show a marriage but likely give an ending that has that implication. And one sidedness means little, see Goku and Chichi, we all know how Oda was inspired by DB.
-
Was there anyone beside me who really liked the scene where Coby got punched in the face, but for the same reason. The guy still blindly follows the marines and believes in their BS of a justifiable cause?
-
@S.C.:
I can't think of all of them, but at the very least, Kidd, Law, and Bonnery could be pretty useful. Kidd could destroy the wall and maybe manipulate the Pacifistas to attack the Marines and eachother since all of it is made of Metal, Law's matter manipulation could really screw up some VA's, and it seems Bonnery's powers work if if it's a Logia-type, so imagine her aging Akainu to like 96 or something.
Like I said, I personally don't think they'll come, but if someone are going to say they all suck because some of them didn't do so well against freakin' Kizaru, your standards might be a bit high.
And what? Be WB's age?
-
And what? Be WB's age?
Akainu would be much weaker than Whitebeard if Bonney aged him, because he wouldn't have had all those years to spend drinking his weight in booze. NO ALCOHOL POWERUP.
-
And what? Be WB's age?
Well, it sure isn't convenient to fight if you are arthritic, more fragile and slower.
-

I'm saying that he meant it as in present time relationships, you're the one taking it too literally thinking he meant every relation between any man and woman including parents used for character background.
-
What about Sanji. He'd probably suicide if he heard that Hancock is in love with Luffy. Can't wait to see that moment.
-
I'm saying that he meant it as in present time relationships, you're the one taking it too literally thinking he meant every relation between any man and woman including parents used for character background.
**Oda didn't say anything about present romance, he said romance. You're arriving at your own conclusions based on what you read. Which is perfectly fine, it only helps to prove my point that these things shouldn't be taken 110% literally.
And how am I taking anything here literally? What I am doing is no different from what you're doing.**
-
Please don't mislead the audience here..Shanks and Rayleigh have Haki(Ambition) but not Haōshoku Haki(King's Disposition) Only Luffy and Hancock are the confirmed character that have it_:getlost:_
All we saw Luffy doing with his haki, is make some people faint with foam in their mouth. That's exactly the same effect Rayleigh and Shanks produced, while only Hancock is effectively said to have the same type of haki.
Except that Luffy needed all his will, plus being boosted with hormones to be able to taze :-) a few sub-marines :-) (don't taze me bro' !). In comparison Rayleigh was able to shock a full audience with a blink of an eye, and Shanks was able to shock WB pirates without even blinking…That makes the whole WB pirates very very overrated as none of them not even WB was able to use some heavy haki.
-
@Rambling:
What about Sanji. He'd probably suicide if he heard that Hancock is in love with Luffy. Can't wait to see that moment.
He can't commit suicide when he turns to stone everytime he looks in Hancock's direction
-
Luffy was running towards Ace…while WB was whining.
Yes there is a thing called your own limit, which Luffy surpassed but WB didnt.Luffy on drugs you idiot.

Stop with the bullshit man. When did Toriyama say there wouldn't be romance in Dragonball? Terrible example.
Tell me exactly what has Oda shown us that points to Luffy returning the same feelings Hancock has for him?
Talking about my logic. You don't even know what my logic is because all you keep saying is I'm ignoring these magical signs in the manga that only you see but can't specifically mention.
I'm not entertaining this high level of dumbassery anymore and I don't give a fuck what you think since it isn't based off anything so save it for someone who does care.
-
Luffy will marry Hancock without even knowing what the hell is going on and think the reception is just another party with food to munch on.
You heard it here first.
-
Im not too sure about Shanks or Rayleigh having king haki, i dont think kings haki is the only haki that can knock ppl out. I think anyone with a strong enough haki can do it, when Shanks went on whitebeards ship it was said that shanks had amazing "vigor and drive" (nulls 434) why would oda put "vigor and drive" in there if shanks has king haki?
It seems pretty obvious to me that shanks's haki can be described as amazing "vigor and drive" not kings haki, also after that shanks states "since this is an enemys ship… i kinda made a bit of a threat" a bit of a threat, isnt that insinuating that he only did something small with his haki and couldve used it in another way which would of been more of a threat?
I think its likely, if kings haki just knocks ppl out who are weak minded then how is it of any use to luffy in the future? he can only knock ppl out? does he have to learn another type of haki to use it in a different way? boa has kings haki and she can use it in different ways not just knocking ppl out, if kings haki is the only haki that can knock ppl out, then someone who has normal haki can touch logias (like boa) but not knock ppl out because they dont have kings haki? but ppl with kings haki can do both what a normal haki user can do and knock ppl out? that just seems unlikely, and that knocking ppl out is just one of the features that haki can do, but its not restricted to kings haki (sorry if its a bit confusing had a hard time putting it into words)
-
What's with the Hancock hate? I think she's one of the best characters.
-
Luffy can marry Hancock without there being romance, easily.
LUFFY: Hancock, how can I ever thank you for all your help?
HANCOCK: W-would you… m-marry me?
LUFFY: Of course!
Hancock faints on top of him. Luffy takes on a quizzical look.
LUFFY: ...What's marry? Does it taste good?Too much emphasis has been placed on Hancock's affection for it to just be swept under the rug. Luffy can agree to hook up with Hancock without her needing to travel with the group or without him actually romancing her.
(Of course, theres still the beatdown of the Tenryubiito and the entire slave trade thing to deal... but that may be a fihman island or an end of series thing)
Seriously Robby..the best thing supernovas can do is to beat some shitty pacifistas they cant backup WB against 3 ! Admirals…
I just think that Luffy will inspire WB who will fight the 3 admirals simultaneously and will prove why he is the strongest man. That's the exact same thing that was said about Luffy three months ago. And so far, he hasn't beaten a single enemy of note (except Coby, I guess.) But look at all the difference he's making.
9 badasses and their crews showing up at a surprise moment when no one is expecting them, and hitting from behind/opening an escape route?
And Bonney could make Whitebeard young again, Kidd could mess with those giant walls, Law can move pieces around, Capone can bring an army of who knows how many extra troops, among other things. There's a LOT they could do. They don't have to beat an admiral to make a difference, same way Luffy didn't.
-
Question: Is the chapter's title in Japanese actually the word "Monster", like it was with Chopper, or is it "Bakemono", (or some other Japanese word that means monster).

Is Oda really so unoriginal that he would rip that page right out of dragonball?(not known the meaning of marriage, thinking marriage refers to food).

Taking some crappy scanslation and saying these are Oda's words? Atleast use Stephen's translations then. All your arguments are moot now.

kaibutsu, like 221 (it was said in one of the earlier pages)

**Did I ever say Toriyama said there wouldn't be any romance in Dragonball? Ever? You can't say an example is terrible when you don't even understand it's meaning. You said I don't have a grasp of Luffy's character, but the fact is that people grow and change overtime. The meaning of the Goku and Chichi example seems to have flown over your head. My point is that Chichi's feelings towards Goku were completely one sided when they got married, but despite that they still got married. Oda doesn't have to introduce romance into the story in order for Hancock and Luffy to hook up, especially if it happens offscreen and/or at the end of the manga.
Like I said above, Luffy doesn't have to show romantic feelings for Hancock in order for them to get together.
I have specifically mentioned them, twice in this very thread in fact.
Translation: I can't debate so in addition to shoving words in your mouth I'm going to call you a dumbass, claim all your arguments are bullshit and leave like a gangsta.
You're soooooooo cool.**

I said the same thing before but he might just add a twist here or there, wouldn't be the 1st parallel that OP shares with DB, there's kaioken- Gear 2nd, Mr. Satan- Buggy, etc. There are other scenarios besides the exact DB one, such as Luffy promising Hancock to go back to AL after becoming PK, then he decides to make it his home after his adventures. It would allow the readers make of it what they want.
-
Oda is fairly original, but he's not known for his originality. What people seem to confuse with originality is usually Oda putting a twist on a frequently used concept.
-

Well we all know Oda loves DB, but I don't think having a power up(an anime/manga staple), and copying specific details of another story or quite on the same level. Even if it was to honor DB, I don't think he would copy it that directly.

Yeah I don't think Oda would directly rip it, but I do think he'll have some sort of scenario. Hell it could even be that Luffy feels like he owes Hancock something asks her what she would like from him, she says marriage and he knows what it is but due to his nature he doesn't think it's a big deal and says yeah. I mean the guy saw her topless and said, "Why are you all naked and stuff?" he'd probably just say yeah and shrug to a proposal.
-
That's a secret but…
Pirates don't marry! -

Well, i don't think Oda did think about Kaioken at all as he invented Gear 2.
It's just a power boost for all stats, that's pretty common in Shounen.
And Buggy has yet to become famous like Mr. Satan, with the difference, that Buggy is stronger in comparison than Mr. Satan was.And why is everybody thinking that Luffy would act exactly as Goku? x)

Everybody is a strong word, as it is thinking. More likely people say there is a possibility and than some people say there is no way…

**Do you think throwing random insults around like a high school freshman makes you seem like a competent human being?
You know when someone is way in over their head when the only thing they can say is "DUMB ASS DUMBASS" like a parrot on crack.**
-
Is Oda really so unoriginal that he would rip that page right out of dragonball?(not known the meaning of marriage, thinking marriage refers to food).
I was only demonstrating that marriage doesn't necesarilly equal love on both sides or romance, especially when the lead character is a child minded idiot.
NOT that I thought that was exactly what would happen. I have no clue how Oda will handle it, but its doing it too much and too consistently.
When Oda says "there won't be romance" he PROBABLY means (I say probably, cause no, I don't know exactly what he means, neither do you, and up to a point it can be misdirection, but given context and the way he rolls, I'm making assumptions…) he PROBABLY means no onscreen lovey dovery with lots of kissing and hand holding. That isn't the same thing as "Okay, we'll have a ceremony and promise to be together once the adventure is over."
Its because this major infatuation is being so heavily and consistently done that I DON'T think Hancock will join the crew, because I just can't see Oda making light of this for the next 10 years. And I also can't see this just being tossed away lightly either. Some sort of promise is going to be made, Hancock's easily earned Bon Kurei and Vivi status by this point, she's an ally and friend for life. And since she loves Luffy, and Luffy's not going to care either way, no harm in getting married.
And since Luffy ISN'T going to be the type to fall in love, the woman will have to fall for him and him just agree to it. The sea traveler bagging an amazon queen is a part of ancient stories like Sinbad and such, so its not at all a stretch for Luffy to do the same.
-

Why exactly should I care how I seem to you or anyone else… on the internet? More importantly why do you care? Maybe you're taking this too seriously?
I'm not familiar with parrots or crack use so you can stop with the horrible attempts of humor. I'm still waiting for these examples from the manga(that I apparently have been ignoring) that Luffy will feel the same way Hancock does or anything that points to the two getting married.
All you've been capable of doing is to constantly repeat your opinion on what you think will happen(they might "hook up" off screen or Luffy will be fooled in to it, thinking marriage has something to do with meat) and you know what I say about ppl who think that right?
-

I don't see anything from the manga that I've ignored in that link other than more of you what think can happen. I've been reading the last few pages of this chap so I didn't miss anything. The Roger comparison was the only thing valid.
You seem mad. You're the one that doesn't agree with one of my posts and felt the need to prove something to me and yet you're so eager to have the last word with those paragraphs of meaningless insults that you continue to say nothing. Your right tho. I'll do what I said now and dead this argument with you(never said I'd leave) since nothing has been presented other than opinion.

I could imagine a situation similar to that happening. I'm just now sure how Oda would hook the two up, assuming it happens.
