I think that entire marathon analogy doesn´t hold any water here. A marathon is a sports event which you can´t predict. You may have logic guesses who might be the favorite but it still can turn out differently.

But here we have a piece of paper done by the artist himself. The artist who alone already knows who will and who wont join. And if the artist labels Franky as Mugiwara Pirate then I really don´t see any more plausible reason to think that he wants to lead us on a wrong track. He didn´t label Franky as friend of the Strawhats but as a Strawhat Pirate himself.

I understand all of you guys when you say that Oda often twist some of his hints. But please guys we are really stretching it here. Oda never pulled something like this before. He never labeled Vivi a Mugiwara Pirate like he did with Franky.

And just one more thing about the marathon analogy. If you want to make it a real analogy then the example should be like this. I´m recording the marathon and I´m showing it to friends who don´t know the outcome. Throughout the race I make hints on two character´s who might be the winners but I let everyone speculate for themselves what might be right. But when I as the person who already knows the outcome truly spoil who is going to join then actually you can believe that this guy is going to be the winner. That would be a correct analogy. If we would have a person who knows what happens before we whitness it ourselves. And in One Piece only Oda knows and he has labeled Franky as a Mugiware Pirate. He just did. Arguing that just appears that people are arguing for the sake of it.

You didn´t get what I mean. The analogy doesn´t work well because unlike for the marathon were it completely up to speculation (except if a betting mob is included) in One Piece we have a guy who already knows what will happen…Oda himself. And it is Oda himself who labeled Franky as Mugiwara Pirate.

Besides the Vivi situation is completely different. She traveled from Whiskey Peak, over Little Garden and Drum to Alabasta with the Strawhats. Comparing her constantly to Franky doesn´t work since Franky is still within the teritory that can be reached by Puffing Tom. He didn´t leave that region to travel with the Strawhats to the next one so he shouldn´t be compared to Vivi (as none of the other Strawhats can be compared to Vivi, but I think I elaborated the Mugiwara/Vivi difference a couple of pages ago )

im not comparing Vivi to franky im just saying that she was and still is considered a part of the strawhats crew and if she wished to join them she would be more than welcome as it was made clear in the end of alabasta and vivis goodbye,

and as Vivi was a nakama and they still left her im just saying that to me its not official until i see it in the story(which i once again will clarify am sure that we will see).

I think that if you´ve read my entire post you´ll understand how much One Piece which is the work of an author´s creativity is different from a sports event where we don´t have a superior person that decides the outcome of a sports event.

My argument is built around the fact that the guy who recorded the race would be telling the truth. And as I said it three times already. The color spread labels Blueno, Fukuro, Spandam, Kaku, Hattori, Lucci, Jabura, Calipha and Kumadori as CP9, aswell as it labels Robin, Sogeking, Zoro, Luffy, Sanji, Chopper and Nami as Mugiwara Pirates and nobody is disagreeing with it.
The color spread even shows a new weapon of Sogeking that we´ve never seen before and nobody questions the autheticity of it.
But when the exactly same color spread that so far was right in every other aspect, labels Franky as a Mugiwara Pirate, then it´s autheticity is suddenly worth nothing anymore. I´m sorry but that´s just paradox argumentation.

Yeah, but since you're not Oda and don't know him, it might as well be the same thing. Some religious people may tell you God planned how the race goes, and it'd be no different because whether it's part of a plan or not, you have no absolute idea how it'll go.

But Oda didn't say anything, he just implied it. Franky joining isn't a part of the story like Luffy's goal is, so it doesn't really factor in; Oda has the full right to make whoever he chooses a member, even at this stage. And hey, you can't say Luffy's the king until he is, either.

The problem is color spreads were never absolute. if you count everything here, then you'd have to count the army suits from another color spread, and the rifles and kimono from the last one.

Now, I know your point: there's text to back it up. I agree, because I really think Franky is the next, but the thing is it's not written in stone at all. He could make a page saying "Franky is the new member," and we'd all fully believe him, but it's still within his power to change it, even at that point. As long as it isn't in the story, it's not certain.

Thank you for saying that. This changes the whole discussion. Apparently it appears that there were sever fellow board members who didn´t notice the text. So let´s clear it up, if it wasn´t for the text then I wouldn´t even argue with you. Click here to see how I´ve argumented before I noticed the text myself.
However now my whole level of argumentation is based on the text that is done as a labeling for all the 17 characters (I coun´t Hattori too) that we see there.

I guess I don´t have to reply to the "Knowing Oda", "God planned the outcome of the race" argument anymore then right? Because the discussion we had appeared to be built around on incomplete facts, or am I mistaken here?

Someone mentioned something about Paulie's strength being based on how he got beat down by CP9. I would agree that it isn't fair to call shots based on that, however, in 376 Paulie admitted his strength is nothing compared to their likes. That just compounds upon my previous speculation that Paulie isn't as extraordinary as his competitor Franky. He's great! But Franky is extraordinary and goes beyond the norm.

Recently I've been looking at simple details that each crew member has, tattoos, scars, earrings, metal plates (Chopper), wrist bands. Paulie doesn't actually have any besides his highly detailed nifty jacket. Meanwhile I've noticed that Franky has exactly 4 rivets on his nose along with the star tattoos. I'm not about to say he's gonna be a crew member because he's drawn with a few things on him, but they're easy to draw details (like everyone else's) and make his overall appearance appealing.

Although I would be TRULY shocked if Franky didn't join now, I still think someone else could sneak in.

No, you´re misunderstanding it wolfwood. The link I gave you was to my very first reply after I´ve seen the color spread. I just wanted to show you what my first reaction was before I checked back on the Vivi cover´s and before I noticed the "Mugiwara Pirates" text. After I checked everything I changed my opinion about the color spread to the one you are familiar with now.

Other then that it appears that Buc really wasn´t aware of the text being the main part of my argument. At least this is the impression that I´ve got. But if you want me to counter it, then I´ll do it.

Note that my argumentation is based on the text which comes form Oda.

About the "You´re not Oda and you don´t know him argument".
True I´m not Oda, but if Oda labels Franky as Mugiwara Pirate, then that´s enough for me.

About the "Some religious people tell you God planned how the race ends" argument.
If some religous people tell me about it, then I wouldn´t believe it. But if I would somewhere really and I mean really would see gods written words on who will be the winner of the race, then I would believe it.

And since Oda is the creator (what could be interpreted as god) of the One Piece World, I believe his words when he labels Franky as Mugiwara Pirate.

Someone brought up a good point though… "Mugiwara and friend" wouldn't have looked as good, and wouldn't have fit as well. For all we know, Franky is there because he's the only non Straw Hat that fights one of the CP9. Robin and Usopp haven't rejoined yet... technically, Usopp isn't a Straw Hat right now, and that's by Luffy's own words. We all know he'll probably rejoin, but my point is that, right now, all the people pictured aren't Straw Hats.

Do I think it's a good chance that Franky's joining? Unfortunately, I do. But until it's official.. there's still the chance he won't. And telling people that they can't have hope that someone else might join isn't acceptable.

Also, I don't really remember the chronological order of colourspreads.. but does Oda often picture new Nakama in colourspreads before they join(Not counting Vivi, who never really joins)? I can't remamber one offhand, but that doesn't mean much. Was Chopper in a colourspread before he joined? Or Robin? I just think it's kinda weird that he'd want to give it away before it's final.

In chapter 38 Usopp was on the first page and that was before the fight with Kuro was over.
In chapter 56 Sanji was on the cover with Luffy and that was the chapter where his flashback began (which means before he joined the crew).
On the cover of chapter 64 Sanji was again there with Luffy and that was the chapter where Luffy was dealing with Krieg´s spear.
Chopper however was firstly seen on the color spread of chapter 152. But at the last page of the chapter he actually agreed to join so I don´t know if that counts.

That´s all that I was able to find in the short amount of time. Anyway it is at least proof that it wouldn´t be the first time that Oda pulled such a move.

Yeah but the cigs on his jacket are fairly detailed. Even when I was rooting for him to join last Fall and even after his first appearance I thought to myself:

"Damn Oda, you're a glutton for punishment. Know how many times you're gonna have to draw that? Not to mention the circles on his shirt"

His main heroes (not villains aside from the 4 original members we knew from CP9) have always been quite simple. They have a few defining details and are sometimes made more complex by their outfits but ultimately retain a rather plain design. Again I'm calling up another example I outlined before but check out Wiper's complex tattoo design as paralleled to Paulie's detailed jacket and shirt.

I would agree that not all people pictured are Straw Hats. Robin I would say is a member based solely on Luffy's unacceptance of her departure which I believe is why she's still listed as a member in the tank. Usopp however is no longer officially listed as a member even though he's fighting right with them as is Franky as for all intensive purposes, we know he's coming back.

I'm not ready to accept that one image as Franky's induction, but it would appear to be another nail in Paulie's coffin.

On a different note, although i still feel that nothing is for sure, I think that the way that the newest chapter was set up would add to the argument that Paulie will not join.
Paulie's taking out of marines seemed to be linked to Zambai's beating of them too. Although it has shown Paulie beating up Zanbai, he was taking the ff by suprise. The grouping of Pauly with the other Galley members and the ff seems to me as though he is to forever be grouped in this supporting role as a leader of the strawhat's allies.

Well, if Luffy asks him to join and Franky accepts, probably. From the colorspread he's gonna ally up, no doubt, but if it's permanent? He hasn't even met up with Luffy yet. The initial "crazy shipwright drawing" that resembled Franky a whole lot was more convincing for me, since it showed that Luffy seemed to be specifically looking for someone like Franky.

That was more convincing? Well, one thing about that was up until chapter 350 or so, people didn't even remember it. Even when it was revived, some pegged it as Tileston. What's more, Luffy's past drawings only proved that he really sucked at drawing. This clearly files Franky (not a wacko drawing) in with the crew.

Well, if it wasn't for the drawing then I'd go with this theory:

Franky is just being set up as a cool and likeable guy so we'll like the ship he's going to build for the mugiwara crew. He even fought side by side with them. These affections will then be transferred to the new ship, which really is a great way to make a smooth transition to a new ship without too many heartbreaks (for both the crew and the fanbase). It also falls in with the main plot-line nicely of Luffy becoming the pirate king. Tom built the pirate king's ship, and Tom's apprentice builds Luffy's (the pirate king's successor's) ship.

So then we'll have Paulie join: I for one would love his "prude"-remarks as more comedy on the ship - people say it would get old fast, but Sanji's womanising, Usopp's "new-island-disease" and general fear-attitude and Chopper believing everything no matter how crazy never got old with me either.
Or we'll have one of the CP9 guys join, who as it turns out has some plot twist that makes him a good guy after all. (not likely though)
Or we'll have one of the other guys join, like Lulu or Tilestone, who ofcourse gets some character development to fit in nicely.
Or it'll be the square sisters (it'd be cool to have some more females on board)

But there's that drawing that really looked like Franky that kinda botches this theory..

The funny thing is that no matter if it is Franky or Paulie who joins, both of them would have funny interactions with Nami:

• Paulie´s interactions would be the one we already know and that´s when Nami would show lots of skin. Add Sanji to the scene and you´ve got a hilarious Strawhat crewmates interaction.

• Franky´s humours interactions could be as follows. The Strawhats get to the next island, they go to a restaurant to eat something and then Franky goes all like "The drinks are on us! Let´s drink everyone!" If that would happen you can be sure as hell that Nami will be the first one to beat Franky up for that.

Either way, no matter who joins, Nami hasn´t any chance to escape new humorous interactions. lol

Heh, I never thought of that before. Franky the frivelous money spender. XD I guess both he and Pauly have problems with money. Just different motivations. It seems Pauly's got debts that he keeps trying to pay off by gambling and getting into more debt (I'd still like to know the story behind that), but Franky just likes throw money around on partying.

Arch enemy is like eternal enemy. I'm sorry but Don Krieg is not that for Sanji, to name one. For eternal enemies, a better list would be:

Nami: Arlong (he wrecked her life for so long)
Zoro: Mihawk (obvious)
Robin: Ao Kiji (since he seemed to have had a major hand in the destruction of her people and generally wants her dead) - as an extension we could also take the government in general
Luffy: Everyone that is in his way. The shichibukai, the marine admirals, CP9, blackbeard, whitebeard, maybe even Shanks.

well kuro is easily usopps most hated enemy and one he will hate forever since he tried to kill the woman he loved and threatened his beloved village so that one is true,

and Wapol is the one who tried to kill Choppas "father" so hes easily choppas arch enemy i cant see why you dont think so,

and sanji and don kreig actualy works thought its a little bit of a stretch since kreig attacked his home and tried to kill of his "family" and the man whom he owed everything.

And i keep telling people Luffys arch enemy is the re-occuring pirate clown
