I always knew Jinbei would sell out his friends to save his own scales.
Next Crew Member Speculation (Ver 3.0)

If anyone noticed… Boa is still with the marines at the safe place so for now she hasn't lost her status even after fighting Smoker. Bad omen for people which wanted her to join. If she truly wants to be with Luffy she has to risk her life and fight with him side by side... but shit happens...

I think Luffy should eat Chopper's old herd before the story is over.
-
Raw.
And while he's doing it, Brook sings CHOPPER WITH HIS NOSE SO BRIGHT.
Festive.

Yes I noticed that, strong indicator she will get to keep her status. I expect her to travel with the SHs for a little while though, no way Oda would write her out of the story.

Maybe or maybe not but if she keeps her status like forshadowed the second time now… than she will not JOIN the crew.
BTW
Jinbei wasn't shown in Chapter 0... maybe to keep his flashback or story for Fishmen island... and crocs face wasn't shown... Maybe he was really a girl. xDNo but Jinbei, dull as he is, has some stron points now in my book

garp kishi and young moria for nakamaaaaaaaaaaa kyaaaaaa xdxdxd

Young Moria is the best choice.

AHA!! That means Kuma and Kizaru are to get flashbacks soon!!
I'd say anybody who wasn't a child or a Brook in chapter 0 would be too experienced to join.

Oda made baby Hancock too cute to not join.
It must be so.

This is true but even if her own actions don't cost her the title I think it's still very possible for her to lose it by default because of the WG getting rid of the Shichibukai altogether. After Teach does whatever he's planning the WG is going to look REALLY stupid unless they can contain the flow of information by some miracle.
Something else of note is that with the exception of Teach and Jinbei, who wasn't shown, all of the current shichibukai members looked rather green back around the time of Roger's execution. We can't know for sure but I get the impression that the WG instituted the Shichibukai after Roger's death in order to curb the growing "pirate age," an unexpected result of his execution.
The Marines and WG are going to have some blame to shift and some explaining to do when the time comes. The Shichi are as good a place as any for them to start. Especially now that they have the finished pacifistas, I think it's a good possibility this ends up going down.

boa is still on the marines side but how long will that last now that luffy is up there facing off against 3 admirals? she went nuts after smoker beat luffy up a little so just imagine how nuts she will go once the admirals pulverize luffy's ass.
-
I don't believe that either Jimbei or Hancock will join. I agree with the "Jimbei's like Rayleigh" mind set, in that he'll just help out rather than join.
@Crossword:… her line last chapter about being able to ''Die happy.'' after misreading Luffy's lips leads me to believe that she's not going to be dependant on Luffy to survive this ''diesease'' as she was previously.
I agree with the above quote about Hancock. Another thing I think about Hancock, is that she doesn't really have a place among the other members of the crew. She doesn't really share the "Nakama" mindset, or the tendency to help out totally random people. I'm not saying that one cannot be a member of the Straw Hats if he/she is not willing to constantly go out of his/her way for a stranger, but still, just sayin'.
As a note, (I don't remember the exact words), but Luffy once stated that he wanted a big ship (better than Shanks' of course) and that about 10 strong crew members would suffice. Including him, the Straw Hat count is already at 9. Now, personally I've always put him in the count, 'cause although he's the Captain and stands out, he doesn't stand APART from the rest. So in my mind, there's only room for one more member, if that. I say "if that", because, technically, The Thousand Sunny is also a member of the crew. If I recall correctly, someone mentioned (Probably Usopp) that The Going Merry was a part of the crew. Following that train of thought, there's no reason that Sunny-Go wouldn't count.
So to sum up, if you count Luffy and Sunny-Go, then there are already Luffy's prescribed 10 members.I'm not saying that I don't want to see any new members though. :D

Wow, I wrote that quite a while ago, didn't I? I guess I can add the line about her thinking they're married to that as well. But yeah, those are pretty much my thoughts on her personality as well.
But, I disagree on the whole ''Luffy already has ten if you count the ship'' line of thought. If you go back and look at the chapter titles, Luffy doesn't seem to be counting himself in the ten member limit because Zoro's chapter is called ''The First'', while Brook is ''The Eighth'', (as opposed to''The Ninth or ''The Tenth'', if you want to count the Merry/Sunny, or Vivi.).

Yeah, I was just kind of rambling. ^_^' It was something I had considered in the past, so I figured I might as well throw it out.
One thing I DO think though, is that the next crew member isn't going to be someone we've met recently. If he/she turns out to be someone we know, I think he/she is going to be someone we've known for a while, but never really took note of. I'm still rambling here though, 'cause I don't know WHO that person could be.

I think that Newgate's trump card will keep the Admirals occupied.

I completely disagree. I think that if she will join, The marines will be under the impression that Luffy kidnapped her. Thus Hancock keeps her title, her land is safe, and more importantly she gets to stay with Luffy.

Well so everytime the SHs fights the marines Boa have to play the slave or have to hide…
-
I'll tell you why it's so hard to come up with a plausible way that Boa joins and it keeps the stories synergy, it's because she won't join…
-

Not unless the Marines think that SH is forcing her to fight for him.
I mean these are the same guys who conveinently didn't see her fight smoker, but then saw Luffy hug her and claimit was a bear gug attack. Imo anything is possible here.

What's hard? Oda can do it if he wants to. All he has to do is utilize a plot device to protect her island and badabump, she's free to join.
Also knock off the synergy crap, people thought Franky wouldn't mesh well with the crew and were giving tiny celebrations when they saw how well he mixed with the crew in Thriller Bark.

Yeah and every high tier marines the SHs will fight in the NW will be that dumb… And the SHs everytime have to rest for some days cuz Boa has to go for a meeting and wait till she is back.
Amazing...

no, no, no.
Again I say the official Marine report will be that SH Luffy has kidnapped Boa Hancock and is forcing her againist her will to join him and fight for him. Therefore everytime she fights the marines they will be like "oh noes she's just being forced to do so". And the marines will make a thing of trying to free Hancock leading to more run-ins with them. So some of those un named vice admirals might pop up into the spot light for a while.

boa is the next nakama for me very clear granny nyon stating "thinking of someone you couldn't see will drag you down and eventually lead to your death" boa will die if she won't go with luffy.

The decision to accompany him will save your life.

It will also help Monkey D. Luffy...

http://www.mangascreener.com/stephen/onepiece/chapter523.txtNyon said that the empresses died because they suppressed their feelings. Hancock has not done that. Furthermore, Nyon mentioned again the importance of Hancock keeping her Shichibukai title. She obviously meant accompany him to Impel Down and not join his crew.

Luffy changed his outfit around the same time Boa got introduced…i always thought it would look weird if 2 SHs had similar color theme..maybe Luffy dropping the red is a hint? prob not the next nakama but i would like to see Boa join the team down the line

I love how you say "What's hard?" but then don't provide a single example. Also, my remark about synergy was clearly about the story of One Piece as a whole, not about Boa mixing with the crew.

I don't need to provide a single example for you to shift the argument to. All Oda needs to do is take care of the island issue and she's freeto join, that's a reality.
Also you CLEARLY don't know what synergy means.

Emm… Luffy first start changing his outfit around Thriller Bark saga.
!
Not that I have anything against Boa joining though. I personally prefer new people to join but Jinbei or Hancock joining is fine by me.
-
Pretty sure he started it at Enies Lobby.
-
You're right. I recheck my tanko and Vol 38-40, 43-44 Luffy wore his trademark red vest, but with black shorts, instead of the usual blue one.
Still, I don't think there's any significance meaning behind him changing his attire (red vest) with Boa joining the crew.
-
@-wahn-:
Emm… Luffy first start changing his outfit around Thriller Bark saga.
Actually he started at Enies Lobby already with wearing black shorts.
And if you count weather related fashion changes then he actually even started back then in Drum already and repeated it in Arabasta.

I think that your fanboyness is getting to you. I don't have anything against Boa, I just don't think she will join the crew. My initial arguement was that it's hard to come up with a way to keep Boa joining while maintaining the stories synergy… here's my original post
I'll tell you why it's so hard to come up with a plausible way that Boa joins and it keeps the stories synergy, it's because she won't join…
By synergy, I'm referring to the combination of story elements / groups as they effect the functionality of the whole. Also, your argument that all Oda needs to do is take care of the island is a huge understatement. What about the fact that Boa is a Shichibukai, not only by title but in terms of strength? I know we haven't seen the full extent of her abilities but it's obvious she's top-tier. I just can't picture someone with king's ambition(or whatever you chose to call it) becoming the underling of Luffy.

See, this statement makes no sense. To claim something is hard is to imly that it is feasible. Yet you end the statement with a certain claim that makes no sense given the context. It's that sort of shit that sets my bells a ringing. There are tons of anti-Hancock posts made but I don't respond to each and every one because I really don't care what other people think about her character. What I do care about are these dumbass statements made that hurt my brain.
Your original argument is that Hancock won't join because it's too hard…
Come on, are you kidding me with this? Is that the besta rgment you can honestly make? And the fact of the matter is that no it's not hard at all. All it takes is one plot device. All that stuff about power tiers and titles and stuff are random crap that can be handled with some good apcing and characterization. The one major problem to her joining is her country. This is pretty much undeniable. In fact when Hancock saved Luffy from Smker, there were plenty of members postulating on what plot device is going to save Amazon Lily and grudgingly accept Hancock's chances of joining the rew rising exponentially. It's not hard at all so don't make senseless arguments around it.
-
Well Mr. Oda can also take care of luffy and hancock having the same drive ambition and being on the same ship with luffy being the captain. She can already control it and her "future captain" is slowly learning it. Or he would become so hax in a few chapters that he will dominate her which is hard to see.
-

..my original statement was that the reason it's hard to come up with a good scenario that includes Hancock joining is because it won't happen. I didn't say the reason she won't join is because it's too hard. If you can't understand the difference there then don't bother preaching to me about my supposed "bad arguments." In fact, I was only giving some backing for my opinion, which is that from my perspective someone with King's ambition won't join Luffy's crew, becoming his subordinate. Does that honestly not make sense to you?
P.S. All you're doing is spewing out generalized statements like
"can be handled with some good apcing and characterization…"
"there were plenty of members postulating on what plot device..."
and
"It's not hard at all"So stop getting pissy that somebody doesn't agree with you and actually give examples / justification for your ideas, and I'll be glad to listen.

The Kuja pirates started with Hancock, right?
Then it's pretty simple: all she has to do is say that she forced them all into doing her dirty work by seducing them with her Devil Fruit.
That way, she, who can defend herself, takes all the blame, while the Kuja are left alone.
-
@The:

I don't think so. Remember her flash back when she was a girl on the pirate ship?

**my original statement was that the reason it's hard to come up with a good scenario that includes Hancock joining is because it won't happen.
It's hard to come up with a good scenario
It's hard
It's too hard.** Changing the words around doesn't change the meaning.
You keep trying to shift the argument to Hancock to cover your dumbass statement. It's hard, we get it. But making that the sole basis of an argument is stupid.
I don't give a shit you don't like Hancock and you don't think she'll join. I'm not interested in getting into a Hancock war with haki and islands and all that crap. Just come up with better arguments than "it's too hard". Not only is it weak but it's a meaningless statement.

In chapter 0, it was clear that becoming pirates was an established practice that involved competition. So no, Kuja pirates were long around before Hancock.

….wow lol I already said I don't dislike Hancock, you're just venting at me senselessly. I'm not getting into a Hancock war, I told you my reasoning that I don't think she will join is because she has kings ambition like Luffy, I also thing she's too strong. That's my reasoning, so why are you saying "come up with better arguments than it's too hard?" Instead of logically disputing what I'm saying you're just getting your panties in a twist and saying I'm trying to start some Hancock war and hate her. Grow up. I guess I should expect this with someone that has Hancock as a sig, taking everything personally.
-
I usually try not to talk to people with Hancock sigs. It preserves my sanity.

but pwnobi's sig says he reads Bleach, so maybe we should just ignore the whole argument all together =]

lol it's not really even reading, it's like I stare at the computer screen a scroll for 20 seconds once a week. A chapter of Bleach has about as much content as the cover to a chapter of One Piece. I still like it though.
-
Oh right, forgot about that.
-
Oh please. The new member won't be Hancock, as she'll be getting dominated by her new love…BUGGY! Although he'll share her with Luffy.
