@KiShiDo:
But someone still thinks the movie isn't canon after this…
It would be strange with this MANGA chapter having Shiki being hyped in that way to make the movie non canon and never ever bring him in the manga again.
If it is not canon than he should appear in the manga which I doubt
As stated before Shiki IS canon already. But that doesn't mean that the Movie will be canon. Movie 9 is also based on canon stuff and is yet definitely not canon for obvious reasons.
One more thing. It was also mentioned (I think by Greg) that Oda stated that he wanted to mention Shiki back then in chapter 434 when Newgate was talking about Roger, Garp and Sengoku. But he ditched the idea again because he thought that was too early to mention Shiki.
What's interesting about that statement is that Oda continued saying that by then he did not plan to make a Movie with Shiki at all. That idea came much later. Which in the consequence would mean that Oda's plans for Shiki are manga related and that sooner or later he will make an impact on the canon story.
So yeah, I personally still consider the movie to be a "what if" story featuring canon characters. And furthermore I'm sure that Shiki will reappear in the main story in a different way yet with plenty of easter egg movie references.
@Urouge:
I don't think that we're disagreeing here. My only argument has been that we really don't get a valid understanding of his strength from this chapter either way. The fact that we're going to get Luffy vs Shiki (which Luffy is bound to win) is a decent reason to think that Shiki probably isn't quite on the level of Garp and Sengoku combined, though.
I see. Again I see your point but I have to continue to play the devils advocate here by saything that I doubt that even Roger was on the level of Garp and Sengoku combined. ;)
But yeah, there's different factors that could play a role in Luffy defeating Shiki. His health/age/injury for instance. Or the simple fact that this movie won't be canon after all. Or Luffy getting some sort of power up like back then at Thriller Bark.
