yea that is one thing i have noticed about this guy. he has some of the worst stills ever. some of his stills can look exactly like the manga, and the animation is nice. But gosh darn are some of the stills pathetic. its like seriously how hard is it to take all of 2 seconds more on that drawing to make it not look so horrid.
Well, I don't really want to get into another big discussion about this so I'll just say that some of his stills have to be awkward and distorted in order for him to get that characteristic zing in his action scenes. It's not laziness, because as you said, when the animation focuses on a character with relatively little movement, he is perfectly capable of clean, on model drawings.

Hm, now that I've seen the caps, it looks like, at least to me, that Tate drew Luffy a bit differently than he normally does. He looks…I dunno, cuter? I can't really describe it clearly...
Yeah, I noticed that as well. He seemed to be taking some liberties, and more than a lot of the animators he really gives Luffy that childlike figure and face that Oda's been using for him lately.
