Buster Rhymes is all right, I preferred his old stuff though.

Although I stick more to "indie" rock, electronica, folk and ambient more, I've been listening to rap a lot more lately.
Some of my favorites
-Deltron 3030 (was surprised to actually find out this was a musician, and not just a name made up by Jakarta for a username)
-Dr. Octagon
-Wu Tang Clan
-Dizzee Rascal
-Quasimoto
-J Dilla
-Eminem (although his last two albums are sorta shitty; new album is ok)
-Ol' Dirty Bastard's Solo stuff
-Public EnemyNot too much rap, but some, atleast.
Hate to say it, but my guilty pleasure is Kanye West. I hate the guy's personality, but some of his songs are pretty good.
Tried to get into MF Doom after hearing all his praise, but couldn't really. -

Busta isn't really on that track, you just hear his voice in the background for like two seconds, the video uploader was a moron and thought that meant he was on the track. It's just Posdnuos and Dave.
I actually really hate Busta's solo work…but he was great in The Leaders of The New School.
-Deltron 3030 (was surprised to actually find out this was a musician, and not just a name made up by Jakarta for a username)
-Dr. OctagonDeltron is a collaboration with Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Dan the Automator, and DJ Kid Koala.
Dr. Octagon is just a nickname for Kool Keith.
Kool Keith is the best.

Did a search in this thread and no mention of Dizzee Rascal. Sort of surprisingly considering how popular he is in the UK.
-
His first album was really great, best of 2003 I've listened to so far.

Have you heard the remixes with him over coldplay?
Its not too bad.

I really loved this album. My buddy turned me on to Del this year. His style is absolutely great!
You guys got any other listening suggestions? I'll probably check out what's in this thread first

America still has the most vibrant varied hip hop scale.
The guys you posted have loads of American counterparts.
-
Yeah, of course they do, its just that only kanye and lil wayne and shit like that hits our radio and music channels here… :(

Great album.

Anybody heard Fashawn's debut LP?
While it has its low points, it's pretty damn good.
Def worth a listen.Also, can't wait for the Wu-Massacre.
-
I was very underwhelmed by the Fashawn album.
I find Exile boring so the beats were never going to impress me. -
My favourite hip hop artist released a new album some time ago. Been listening, been loving.
I know you guys probably won't care since well, you know, he does it in Finnish. But I'm going to post a tube anyway:

Perhaps I have said before, I generally don't like domestic hip hop artist but Asa is an exception.

gist: guru is now in a coma following a heart attack and scheduled for surgery today
I always loved the jazz/hip hop element. if any of you dont know about him which i doubt check out any of the jazzmatazz vols. or his latest solo guru8.0 -
FUCK.
Guru is a true blue veteran. I hope he's alright, that sounds bad too.
Why couldn't it be someone worthless like Young Jeezy. -

Good god, that Wu-Massacre album was underwhelming.

http://www.ebaumsworld.com/pictures/view/80957567/Most of those are terrible, no doubt, but some of them weren't THAT bad… especially the Common and Ghostface Killah albums.
-
The problem with a true worst hip hop album covers list is that every single inclusion would be from New Orleans and Memphis circa 96-00.
Pen & Pixels is the worst thing to ever happened to graphic design.

For a comedic song, it's pretty good.
There's other songs on Plastic Beach which are a hell of a lot better though. -
One of my friends was riding that album hard for a while (since its release and probably still) and trying to get me into it, but I just don't feel it. I have a love-hate relationship with the Gorillaz and I found the new album decent at best.
-
Just found out today that my favorite Hip Hop producer just died last month… You guys might know him from the work he did with Samurai Champloo. RIP Nujabes....
-
I heard about this when it happened on one of my general music forums, though only one. I really need to check out more of his music, especially since I've been listening to hip-hop almost non-stop for the past several weeks.
-
Guru has died of cancer.
That's right THE Guru. -
There's other songs on Plastic Beach which are a hell of a lot better though.
Such as ?
-
Our local hiphop radio made a tribute to Guru, and aired a remix of gang starr songs. It was incredible, I am on my way to buy it all.
As Tupac said, the good die young. RIP Guru.

Are these under artists, or just some old school rappers I've never heard of?
Most of today's stuff is just a mishmash of pop and performing. At least the crap they play on the radio. -
Declaime is also known as Dudley Perkins, a soul singer of the right now. His rap career was mostly in the first half of the 00's. That song was from 01'.
DJ Krush is a japanese producer who worked with hip-hop in the 90's but moved on to trip-hop in the 00's, that song was from 94'.
J Live is still active in rapping, but his good stuff is all from the early 00's. That song was from 01'.
Goodie Mob and Sadat X are extremely well known within the hip hop world, but I'm not so sure how well known in the overall mainstream. They both were good in the 90's, the songs are from 95' and 96' respectively.
If it counts the lead emcee in Goodie Mob is Cee-Lo, or you might know him better as the singer in Gnarls Barkely.
Today still has lots of neat rap, but not on the radio of course. The best hip-hop being made at the moment is coming from Detroit.
