^Combo Breaker: What if that man at the end of the chapter is one of Iva's followers?
Chapter 536 "Freezing Hell" Discussion
-
-
I would be willing to make a small wager that it's Iva-San at the end. Seems like the appropriate point for him to show up. Given the natural build up in the story. Plus nobody but an Okama would pose like that while holding wine with one hand.
Look at that pose and tell me that's not a Okama!
If it turns out it's not Iva-San I'll be shocked and Oda is up to tricks again.
As for Iva San not matching Bon's little shadow Silhouette. I don't see how this is a problem. Silhouettes never match up in One Piece unless the person who is thinking of Sihouette has actually seen the person or people they're talking about. That's why when Garp speaks of the 4 Yonku, the Sihouettes match up, because he knows what they look like, but when we're initially introduced to the 7 warlords it didn't match up because the person describing them had never seen any of them.
Doesn't this make sense? No? hmm…. plus we don't know what Black and White man would look like if he tilted his head back and started laughing... might match Bon Chan's silhouette.
Overall, a great chapter. Lots of emotion. Mr. 2 was epic. I think Luffy will someday pay him back for this. They need to free Ace now... I think a person made of fire might come in handy inlevel 5.
Kinda think of it, that pose is is kinda of that to an Okama, and since Iva-san is the 'Emperess' of Kamabakka Kingdom, that's how he/she does it, as in the 'Okama Way' of Royalty. But on the other hand, he doesn't seem to look like an Okama, judging by the face and the attire (half black and white, crossdress, so possible) and the hair, which kind of a womanlike, unless this is how Okamas dress, in royalty?
Also, another thing is that possibly Iva-san is in that appearance, and look unsimilar to his silhouette is that, he must have shed all his Okama's personality and went on to disguise himself as a gentlemen as seen in that pic, in order for no one to know that he is actually not disappeared from the level. After that, he took refuge in the abandoned warden's office deep on the snowy forest, leading to rumors of the 'demoning away' of prisoners suddenly disappears without a trace.
If that's not Iva-san, then I don't know who is that, possibly Iva's follower, like what Zkaiser says, but for now, this is only speculation and we will find out who is that guy on the next chapter.

I said it in the spoilers I'll say it here again. Black and white for nakama.

No. It can't happen for this reason, and this reason only: Dare I say it…

Wow, what an awesome chapter. Man, Luffy's breaking my heart right now. I'm always so amazed at how he's able to keep his blind determination even when the situation calls for anyone else to just give up. I can't wait until him and Ace-san are reunited, it's gonna be epic I'm sure!
-
if iwa san can save luffy im calling chuck norris powers on that guy!
-
Ooooo, really liked this chapter. Seeing Bon Kurei dragging Luffy's body like that in the biting cold, covered with blood… reminded me of Luffy climbing that mountain in Drum while carrying Nami and Sanji. True badass material. I love it love it love it love it.
I don't know why people are saying that this chapter is rushed. It doesn't seem anymore rushed than any other chapter in this arc. It's that now we are getting to the real meat of the arc, the real big story points. Every major arc has been like this: first you have the build up, set the stage up and the pieces, map out the plan, and then hit the "GO" buttom. And what a GO buttom! Considering the rumors of the disappearances, I think that we may see a whole group of people surviving in Impel Down under the guards' noses. I'm liking where this is going.
-
awesome chapter I really enjoyed it.
Buggy and Mr. 3 on the loose going to do something epic.
-
I love new chapter days.. hahaha enjoying this ride.
Oda = God
Iwa San or not.. love the new character… looks badass to me. whoever he is. My vote is for Iwa San. Okama Follower that happens to be on LV 5 also? What????
Not sure if this is a combo breaker.
Isn't the half/half theme definitely a Okama thing? 1/2 man, 1/2 woman? New Half.. etc...
What better way for the King of the Okama's to represent that then to be a half half man?
I'm always surprised at the diversity of opinions on this forum. I always see it one way and I come here and find a bunch of people arguing against something I took for granted.
e.g. I thought Kizaru was a light Logia from the moment that bullet went through him. I thought this was the effect Oda was going for. I come to AP, and Jesus Christ there is an army of people says that doesn't prove shit. I was like.. what???... too much analysis? too much outside of the box thinking?
I think it's great people have their own opinions and want to argue for a side. I enjoy all the arguments.
-
I'd expect 99% of the prisoners to not care about Luffy's mission.
Again I never said they would "care."
I think it's a real stretch for the situation you're describing you would have preferred IMO. Having established characters up until this point was the better route. While it maybe a bit formulaic and perhaps that the reason you would have prefer something a little bit more mixed up as you call it. I'm sure many more rabid fans would have disliked new characters helping Luffy out of nowhere.
I don't see why they would dislike that if BOTH new and old characters are involved. Maybe you misunderstand, I never said new characters are introduced and all of a sudden are completely dedicated to Luffy's goal. I said new characters helping because of their own goals, similar to Bentham but in a more independent way. I'll stop now though since I don't think you see my view on this alternative.
-
What about people vanishing with no reason? That sound like Nikyu Nikyu no Mi… But I don't think it's Kuma...
-
I agree with Zik, it's not a matter of "care", it's a matter of get out of the prison (or at least Try to get out). That's not a reason solid enough?

Those wolves are pretty badass. I always loved how Oda draws animals. They give me this somewhat modern doctor seuss kinda vibe.
Anyway, yea that huge guy in the cell…His design was kinda bizarre that it creeped me out. Like he seemed really intimidating to me for some reason.
-
No. It can't happen for this reason, and this reason only: Dare I say it…
[hide]He would upstage Franky in eccentricity[/hide][hide]That's ridiculous. Franky's a super perv. Bentham is, from what we've seen of him as Nami, is a super slut. If anything, they'd complement each other perfectly. And besides, nothing can overshadow Franky's SUPAH mechanic-ness, not even the Okama Way. [/hide]
-
Yes,I also thought in Black Jack when I saw him. Also the background about him seems very similar (miracle performer, saving whole coumtries, which obviously refer to curing epidemies)
Like Black Jack he is probably going to ask something big to either Bon Clay or Luffy to save his live,a real big promise.Maybe this would finaly involve Luffy in the world current state and make him stop running around wild causing ruckus
-
Awesome chapter!
I really like how Mr.2 was fighting against the wolves. And it was pretty cool that Luffy used his ambition to knock out the wolves. Lastly, I think the person at the end of the chapter is Iva-san. -
can someone help, by redrawing page 1 from the chapter? ~ http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/4707/01copyi.jpg

The only thing that's sort of disappointed me about this arc so far is that the lower level guys(level 4 and 5) don't seem any more unique looking or interesting than anyone on level 1. They all kind of fall into the Oda one-off character hair face and body type jumble.
Otherwise I've been looking forward to each chapter more and more.
-
I'm going to just go ahead and say that Black and white guy at the end is the one demonising away inmates.
-
This post is deleted!
-
well just my 2 cents here, but anyone ever read fortified school or for that matter seen the movie the running man? what I'm getting at is what if there's some sort of secret resistance force at work in ID snagging away only the people that are worth it for their cause? Or I imagine some sort of indipendant prisoner town tucked away somewhere in ID, away from the reach of the guards
-

I'm pretty sure this is what everyone thinks at this point. Not a surprising conclusion. Who else could it be? It has to be the black and white guy until we meet other explanations

This would be pretty cool, my only reservation would be that I don't think Megellan would be a match against a whole town full of Level 5 guys. I mean as strong as he is, I don't think he could stop 25 guys worth 100 million berries or more. May be not even 10. Instead of creating some sort of secret town why don't they just kill Megellan and all the guards and walk out?
Prison riot is about to start on Level 5, and nobody is going to stop that. ID is guaranteed to go down regardless of what Luffy does from now on. Well assuming the key gets passed around and a huge majority of level 5 prisoners are set free. Can you imagine several hundred people worth over 100 million berries??? LOL
ID is done for.
-
Did anyone else notice the fact that the den-den mushi do not work on lvl5? and that this just screams "jailbreak"?
No video, no calling for help or alerting other parts of ID. A few hundred 100mil+ pirates. Luffy just took out most of the wolves. A group of prisoners have the keys to their cuffs, and possibly others cuffs and cells.
Probably going to end up like lvl2's jailbreak, but it will cause a distraction. Pull everyone to lvl5 while they bust Ace out of lvl 6.
-
So why the glass of wine isnt frozen yet? I mean there's like -30 or -40 degrees.
-
We still don't know what happened to Hannibal :-\
How many chapters since Luffy entered ID ? At least 7 I think, and only 7 hours have passed do if Oda is planning to draw one chapter per hour of story, plus some chapters to give info about the crew, plus some break weeks, indeed ID will last at least one year !
Now I think we will soon have input about what happened to the crew since there should not be a lot of action in ID from now (at least for Luffy and Bon Chan)…
-
I agree with Zik, it's not a matter of "care", it's a matter of get out of the prison (or at least Try to get out). That's not a reason solid enough?
Why would random people help luffy?
1. they dont know how big their chances if they help luffy, think it this way, if you are in ID, and there is some random guy that running around outside, would u decide to help him? no way, you dont even know the guy,he might make u a bait for him to escape (this is prison after all, all men for himself).
2. you dont know how strong he is, if u decide to help to break out from the ID, there is big chance that u will fail , NO ONE ESCAPE IMPEL DOWN IN THE LAST 20 YEARS and end up on the coffin or maybe 'just' torture.
it is more relistic if the one who help luffy is the one that luffy knew, they knew how strong luffy is,since he beat those guys before and they know his character. so they could see a chance to escape with him.
-
the end of this chapter with the wolves was the best scene in one piece since the end of shabondy. so heartbreaking. i bon-chan.
-
I still with the people that said the half white/black man is not iwa-san. he is too soon to apperar, even guard couldnt find him, what chance meeting him randomly at the forest… and didnt look okama to me.
maybe someone who knew iva-san. -

To all those complaining about the silhoutte from 3 weeks ago not matching up… you DID notice that Bon Kurei has another silhouette this week right? Oda's been known to tweak designs a little in mid course (like Moria getting sharp teeth), but I think he can manage to stay consistent between page 10 and page 17. Either the two will look the same when ve laughs, or the newcomer in back and white is NOT Iwa.
Now I think we will soon have input about what happened to the crew since there should not be a lot of action in ID from now (at least for Luffy and Bon Chan)…
People keep suggesting this, and I honestly think we're never going to see in full what the other crew members are up to, sheerly because even if its only 2 or 3 chapters apiece, (and Oda has trouble keeping adventures under 10 chapters nowadays) we'd still be off tracking for 7 or 8 months just to visit everyone briefly right in the midst of a much bigger more important storyline. We got quick 2 page glimpses at what they're up to, and can extrapolate from there. (They all seem like fun places with interesting stories though, cause Oda is awesome like that. Maybe the anime will fill in the gaps, since they really did NOT slow down to do any filler after Thriller Bark. ) They all have vivre cards, it makes more sense for them to reunite, having all gone through training arcs, and just reveal along the way what they've learned in badass fashion with short flashbacks midstream in their next big confrontations with a "Oh, and heres this one new technique I learned… or "Here's this adventure I went on!". Robin and Zoro's situations are the ones that most need further explanation. And of course, not showing what they were up to leaves room for Ussopp to tell his usual lies/truths, and have everyone believe them.
Its not Oda's style to completley break off in the middle of a story and all its build up to then go into another story, unless its an character/plot developing flashback where their entire childhood tragedy and dream are revealed .
If next chapter starts going all black border on us and showing us Bon Kurei's backstory, that'd be... epic.
-
Mr.2 has no idea how Iwa-san looks, this is just how his perverted mind imagines him.
-
Sorry if it's been said before, don't really follow the speculation, but Ivankov's silhouette looks a lot like one of the 4 Emperors of the New World.
-
I think the black and white persons name was on the sheet Bon chan was looking at probably she is called White Black or something. Bon Chan will probably wake up somewhere where he has been able to recover a bit and 10 hours went by. Then The black and white woman/man(??) explains where they are and that Luffy is being taken care of. He will want to see him and then meets Iva-san attending to Luffy and Bon starts crying! Meanwhile the prisoners are starting to cause a giant ruckus in Lvl 5. . .
-
This chapter is very interesting especially with those disappearing prisoners i wonder where they went.
-
I don't really know what to think about this prisoners disappearing thing. I mean if it's really a strange phenomenon for the ID staff to investigate it's one thing. But having the staff not check on ana office that is not used anymore even though there are prisoners missing is somehow, well stupid. But I'm reserving final judgement until I see where Oda goes with this.
-
Mr.2 has no idea how Iwa-san looks, this is just how his perverted mind imagines him.
i already said that too, but he doesn't have perverted mind he just imagined himself with curly hairs (being an okama doesn't necessarily mean that you're perverted).
i am let to believe now that the One Piece Word really could contain true gods or almighty beings. even though Oda offers natural and (almost) logical explanations most of the time, especially for rumors that have been spread before, maybe this time the disappearing of prisoners does have an unnatural cause, which can't be explained by earthly means only. of course the reason why nobody knows what's been happening in the disappearing incidents on level 5 is, that the video den den mushis don't work in that kind of climate and the release of prisoners by prisoners would just lead to "they misteriously disappeared"-speculations, cause they hide afterward, but i think it's possible that gods do exist in one piece, though i don't know if it would enrich the series or not. if they do exist they should stay out of major events and don't mess with the earthlings or just be the supporting type like in zoros attacks -summoned.
-
I wonder if Magellan and Hannyabal knows about the truth behind all the disapperance. It would be cool to think if they had something to do with the disapperance.
-
:O did anyone else catch pandaman's cameo appearance?
-
I still with the people that said the half white/black man is not iwa-san. he is too soon to apperar, even guard couldnt find him, what chance meeting him randomly at the forest… and didnt look okama to me.
maybe someone who knew iva-san.I agree. Not a chance he being Iva-san. I think that he's guy who causes those disappearings. Or if not so I hope he's some xman-wolf-trainer-guy :D

woah perfect time to show us Aka-inu ;)
just the right character for this place - The Icy Hell ^^ -

Probably because it is widely assumed that Akainu will have a fire type Logia, since the other two Admirals have Logias that have something to do with the color in their name. Personally, I don't think we're going to be seeing him in Impel Down. He should be at Marine HQ.

indeed he should, the only possible way to see him at ID is if WB would attack ID right about now so that he can come to defend it. Also, I am hoping to see an interesting paramecia on an admiral for a change. I mean, if you look at the supernovae it i obvious that the most interesting and coolest fruits are paramecia, I mean, hawjking, bege, apoo, how cool are they? Logia is fun and all but kind of always the same. They are naturally strong because they have superb defence, they are there elemant, blablabla, it's just all the same

Well I expect Sakazuki to have a lava/magma Logia too, but still the statement lacks any sense. Expecting Sakazuki to be at Level 5 just because of that is just as expecting to see Kuzan at Level 4 because of his ability.
-
This chap was just awesome.
And there we have out miracle and an update for Luffy ~ was about time ;) -
yeah but the difference is that we've already seen Kuzan..
-
yey…Luffy's haki.....
-
@Best:
yeah but the difference is that we've already seen Kuzan..
The point remains though that the story focuses on plot and not on random which-character-has-yet-to-be-revealed show offs. So since the plot is not that far that Kuzan would have to be at Level 4 it shouldn't be there to expect Sakazuki at Level 5 either. The plot has enough elements to cover already without an Admiral entering the scene. If one is to appear that it most probably will be when the arc is reaching it's climax. As it was the case with Kuma back then at Thriller Bark.
-
hmm..ok I guess youre right..good point
