Damn, I missed it! Anyone saw it can recap?

Rourke totaly stole the show, with a suprisingly low key and belivable villain. And conversley RDJ got way to much screentime, or rather they did the whole hey kids it's RDJ being quirky bit a little to much.
but a great movie nonetheless.

Thank you very much!
you guys already seen this movie? i thought it didn't come out till may 7th or something
It was premiered on Monday in LA.
isn't premiers like for just celebs and famous people? or rich people
how the hell did some of you get into it.
Twas opening night in my town today, and there were atleast 30 empty seats.
Really wasnt that big of an accomplishment to get in.
My country got it early and I watched it yesterday, I personally liked it.
Well I enjoyed the movie for the most part, especially the action/fight scenes. I also liked Rourke's performance and how his character was portrayed. One of my gripes is
! that the final battle ended in a…rather un-flashy way xD.
One of my fav. fight scenes is
! Tony vs. Rhodey. This fight wins partially because of 'Another one bites the dust' playing the background. I must've been the only one in the theater who recognizes this song xD
Hmmm, the early consensus among critics who have seen it is that, "it's good, but not as good as the original. Damn."
So it looks like we're not getting any Dark Knight moments here. Ah well.
I dunno. Consensus seems more to be "Its just as good as part 1, but its not going to take you by surprise this time."

As I highly enjoyed the first one, this is just music to my ears. Looking for a good movie to start off the summer, which I normally do around this time as I grow older.

thats one thing i hate. when a sequal or the second or whatever comes out and you always hear people say "it wasn't as good as original and so on"
when it actuality lots of times it is just as good or better, it is just that it isn't NEW. There isn't hte omg look at iron man he is so cool and wow at the tech and all that crap and what not else cgi or whatever.
they are now judging it on all other aspects ingoring them because we have already seen it in last movie. its like video games. like take most any game and you see lots of times that it has complaints that isn't groundbreaking and same as last game. Yes the new game is better in usually all aspects, but not enough that they feel it is just a rehash.
so i'm sure iron man 2 is awesome, just won't WOW you because you already got that WOW from the first movie. We are basing it purely on story, characters and so on instead of the WOW factor
Well it really wasnt as good as the first, mostly because it was so uneven.
There were moments that totaly blew away everything from the first movie, especialy when it comes to the action scenes and Mickey Rourke just being himself. But in betwenn there were some pretty weak scenes, mostly starring RDJ being "funny" like in the absolutley horrible breakdancing Stark in an mark 2 suit party blasting melons to amuse drunken morons. Or some of the Justin Hammer scenes where he just went over the top. And not to mention the dancing iron man girls x)
A little tweaking could've made this movie incredible, but now it's just really good.
and how much you want to bet that those scenes were only added because someoen thought it would make the movie cooler than the first.
Spoilers man, SPOILERS!
@wolfwood:

! He wasn't being funny; he was just being an asshat.

! Well those seemed normal to the way he was meant to be portrayed as a smartass

Are you fucking kidding me or something? Is this the scene from the start of the movie? What the heck does it matter how they want to go with their blasted expos?
A little tweaking could've made this movie incredible, but now it's just really good.
I agree, there are some tweaking the movie could've gone with but ATM…It was fun I mean come the fuck on
! They played Another one bites the dust. ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST

It's not like i'm giving away any serious plot points. But fine i'll play along with the spoilers game when it comes to the serious stuff.
And that scene was absolutley put in there by Favereu to wring some more cheap laughs out of the audience i.e to be "funny".
! Also his i'm about to die depression could've been handled so much better and it could've helped get the movie back to a better laughs/seriousness ratio. I didnt mind the drunkeness but the public spectacle took away alot from the drama with Rhodes.
! Well those seemed normal to the way he was meant to be portrayed as a smartass
Sam Rockwell was pretty decent for the most of the movie, just had some overacting issues at some points. It's a minor nitpicking issue but still.
! And since we're speaking of Hammer, could someone clarify something for me. Going into the movie i was under the impression that Hammer was supposed to be a genius in his own right and not just a bumbeling corporate CEO douche bag who whines alot. Or was this always the case with him?
Are you fucking kidding me or something? Is this the scene from the start of the movie? What the heck does it matter how they want to go with their blasted expos?
It was just a really lame scene, i get it Tony Stark is great and everybody loves him but fucking can can girls with arc reactor cores dancing about? That's just way to campy for my taste.
I agree, there are some tweaking the movie could've gone with but ATM…It was fun I mean come the fuck on
! They played Another one bites the dust. ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST
! Cut half the jokes, give Rourke just a pinch more screen time, give Natasha a little more character development and voila you've got an 8,5/10 movie.
Just got back from watching it.
It's entertaining alright, but honestly, the "climactic" endfight was a wee bit of a letdown.
That being said, who else stayed for the after-credit stinger?
Personaly i thought the ending section was action packed enough, so the end fight felt just right for me.
And yes i waited around for it, but they really could've put it in betwenn the credits instead of having to wait around for the 5 minutes it takes for the credits to roll by. Still it was a nice little easter egg.
! that the final battle ended in a…rather un-flashy way xD.
So, just like the first one? Goddamnit, why is it that most superhero movies always tend to do this?
I'll just say this much, the end was nothing like the first one.
There was more action in that part of the movie than in most superhero movies combined.
There was more action in that part of the movie than in most superhero movies combined.
Oh, okay then. Now you got me convinced.
Maybe I just have to lower my expectations a couple notches. Will see it tomorrow.
Just got back from the imax. Good film, on par with the first one. Not sure where all these disappointed reviews are talking about, but then some people like avaturd, so there we go.
Can't say I thought much of the main villain, though Hammer was great.
! They kinda killed the "is howard stark evil or not" with the OH MY GOD HE LOVES YOU REALLY speil from fury and the old footage. I felt they could have gone somewhere to make omega whipdynamo more interesting.
A funny video about Iron Man 2 outtakes
http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1935011
Got my tickets for Saturday night. Wanted to get them early in case they sold out, being opening weekend and all.
I can't believe a c rate villain like whip lash is the main villain of this film….. well at least it has war machine
anyways just looking forward to the avengers, I'm praying for Hawkeye

i thought i heard there was a couple or 3 villians really in tis movie? you know like spiderman 3. of course i haven't seen and don't know anyone who has yet, but thought i heard that somewhere. of course whiplash could be the MAIN MAIN villian, but still even if some c rate villian, if the movies rocks who cares
Iron Man 2 villain/s:
! Whiplash - felt to me like a composite of whiplash/crimson dynamo/omega red
Justin Hammer - played as a buffoon to comedic effect

You're right
! They were going for a merged whiplash with crimson dynamo thing but every time I see Mickey doing his whip thing in the ads, I laugh my ass off at his facial expressions.
They have to save some big bads for the Avengers movie.
Here's hoping that they'll have The Mandarin in Iron Man 3. I want my technology vs. magic battle.
Mandarin's rings are based on technology, albeit super advanced technology.
Watched it yesterday. Not really impressed.
Saw it last night. I really enjoyed it!
Only complaint was the villain went down very easy.
Just saw it.
No misteps, no major triumphs either. Like people have been saying, its exactly the same feel as the first one, but without a whole lot of surprises, you know exactly what to expect this time around. You could play them back to to back and it'd be a four hour movie.
It felt a bit much like… just an installment. If it was a tv series, it'd be an episode. No major upping of the stakes, no real fear for the characters at any point. And while one plot thread really had me going, they solved it a bit too easily. It was just... busy setting up the universe, still.
Also, the last fight needed to be ten minutes longer.
So.. it wasn't bad. Worth seeing. But... more of the same. Does make me wanna pull out my Samurai Jack dvds tho...

or
! tony gonna die
I think we can all agree that hammer was great though.
Well, both of those were sort of interconnected in the cop-out ness.
! Tony gonna die…
! If you're going to play that element... then PLAY it. Let us believe the hero can actually die, that he's going on his last run ever, that its a final blaze of glory. Make us worry until the last possible second.
! Don't just have him... sit around a room for 5 minutes and come up with a new dues-ex machina based on something his father obscurely hid in a model 20 years ago.
! Really. His dad couldn't just write it down? Brand new element that tech can't create yet, and you leave the only blueprint for it obscured in a model that might get thrown away, that counts on Tony seeing footage of you telling him to look for it?
! And then after that... there was no danger to Tony for the rest of the film. In the first one he was running on emergency reactor, so I guess they didn't want to repeat that, and wanted to show him at full strength, but... eh. copout.
And the final villain fight shoulda been like 10 minutes longer. Genndy can come with it. Samurai Jack and Clone Wars are great. It was just getting to the payoff, and then it was over, like… immediatley. Eh.
Yeah, I agree, though for me I liked it as much as the first, which I totally attribute to hammer making me laugh everytime he was on.
I think its telling that the movie came out yesterday, and this thread went silent for 13 hours.
I found it weird that it came out here a week before america. Turn up to the thread expecting discussion and realise practically no-one's even seen it.
@robbybedfart:

I didn't want to be the one to revive the thread and then get no responses, so I just read the last few pages.
I saw it yesterday, it was the first day out here. The theatre was relatively empty. I thought it was good entertainment but it could have been better. There were a few things I had a problem with. Apparently allot of people thought Tony was likable douche, I could only see the douche part though. Seriously every time he didn't have the mask one he was just annoying. The other part was one scene of the movie.
[hide]The scene where black widow is walking down a hall to stop the droids. Seriously, every time she took a security guard it was like a cutaway out of a video game for a finishing move. She'd just stare at the camera for a few seconds in slow motion. They did this for like a minute. That was already lame. Then you see that she's only gone about 20 feet…:getlost:[/hide]
Did anyone watch the clip at the end of the credits I DID
Did anyone watch the clip at the end of the credits I DID
I was extremely pissed at my theater. I stayed after the credits, and the scene starts to play- I saw a car drive up with New Mexico plates, and the guy's boots step out of the car, then it just cuts and the lights come on!
Everybody was yelling "What the hell?!" and "Bullshit!"
I went home and looked on youtube for what the rest of it was.
! It was just like I thought and hoped it would be. Thor's hammer, baby!
I know I'm alone in this sentiment… but using these movies as build up to The Avengers is genius.
I don't even care that Whiplash got wtfpwnt in like 5 minutes (actually I do... that should've been a WAY longer fight, but then again we here are used to MULTIPLE episode spanning Epic Slugfests, so a bit unfair in my part to expect more).
Thor is going to be awesome: Kenneth Baragh(sp) is DIRECTING!? Holy SHIT.
And Natalie Portman wanted a part in the movie for the lulz (by her own admission).
Captain America being played by Johnny Storm from the TERRIBLE Fantastic Four movies is SLOWLY growing on me.
But so far Robert Downey Jr. is going to TOWER over the rest of them if he keeps the performance going as he has been.
Also... for the first time I FINALLY understand why people are always oogling about Scarlett Johanston (sp)... holy crap O_o'!
I should be going to the movie on Monday. It's half off then.
I know I'm alone in this sentiment… but using these movies as build up to The Avengers is genius.
You're not alone
Actually, I've been hoping that they do this years before. When I saw Iron Man and realized that they are finally gonna do it, the little nerd kid inside of me rejoiced:wub:
I saw it Friday night and I really enjoyed it! I thought it was well done because keeping the heart of the first one while further developing existing characters (Tony, Rhodey, Pepper, Happy, etc.), telling a branching story, and expanding the narrative that Marvel is trying to tell is no easy task.
As for newer characters, I thought they were all done well. It was nice to see more of Nick Fury and Scarlett Johansson's Blackwidow was great (despite the Russian accent). Whiplash and Hammer were great too.
As a very avid reader of the comics, I thought it stayed very true to it. I do feel that some moviegoers won't understand the inclusion of some scenes, like the one in the spoiler down below, because it gets into a little more serious background on the character of Iron Man and the first movie didn't really touch on serious themes.
! I was glad to see the inclusion of Tony Stark's alcoholism because it is a prime example of how many Marvel characters have human weaknesses, something I believe DC heroes lacks.
I know I'm alone in this sentiment… but using these movies as build up to The Avengers is genius.
I also agree with this statement, I think I mentioned it some where in a different thread. The thing I really like about this is that it has never been done before. It's like the reverse of a spin-off. XD If Marvel Studios can do Thor and Captain America right, which I think the will, then the Avengers has the potential to be one of if not the biggest movies of all time. I very excited with anticipation!
I just watched it yesterday. I don't know why are there so many people against how the final battle concluded. At least Iron Man and War Machine delivered the final blow themselves. Unlike the first movie where it was just all like "Let's lure Obadiah so he can got blown up by the arc reactor".
This movie got a 9/10 from me.
Saw it opening night, it was amazing.
I heard that in the novel, what Stark synthesized was supposed to be vibranium…that would certainly explain why it would be obscurely hidden even from Fury.
Saw it last night, really loved it. Downey Jr. needs to win some sort of award for his role, because he's just that good.
The final fight was a tad short, but the final blow made sense. If anything it really elevates just how dangerous a pair Iron Man and War Machine are.
I have to wonder if Tony's new heart won't eventually crap out on him. Jarvis did say they didn't have a chance to test the technology, so who knows what'll happen.
Just got back from it. Awesome movie! Not sure how I'd compare it to the first, but I definitely enjoyed both on similar levels.
The only real issue I have is that Nick Fury was introduced a little too quickly, and we were expected to buy the whole organization thing almost immediately, which was a little off-putting for non-comic readers like myself and my parents (who watched it with me).
Regardless, really enjoyed this one!
