this chapters awesome….no....no....epic is the word........this chapter has surpassed all previous scales of epicness, far beyond moments like wanzes nose ramen and luffys drawings................
but on a more serious note i think this is great, its good to see the hokage speaking to naruto, plus it left off leaving every fan gasping for more, great story telling
im happy to see a more unpredictable plot in naruto, thumbs up to this weeks chapter =)

That number showed that Naruto was about to go 9-tails. But, the 4th Hogake was supposed to show up when Naruto reached 8 tails so that the fox could never be full released. And it worked. Naruto never fully released allowing him to reach 9 tails.

Wait, isn't the big statue Akatsuki is transfering the energy of the tailed beasts something that would become alive once the process is finished? So wouldn't whatever is trapped inside the moon be a completely different being? Or how did you mean that Akatsuki's plan can be connected to the moon foreshadowing? I'm a bit confused here.
I was just running two thoughts in the paragraph. 300 chapters of buildup there's no way that Naruto isn't losing the kyubi, (and thus his super crutch, which is getting its final drama now anyway) so the Akatsuki master plan can work. Naruto will lose the Kyuubi, and that thing will be unsealed. Even Kishi wouldn't blow this much buildup. (Tho the 8 tail is still loose…)
Seperatley, it now seems pretty likely there's something in the moon too, which is so epic as to be even more final and surprising. You don't jus toffhand mention "Oh yeah, that one guy built the moon" and not follow up on it. It may be jumping to conclusions to assume that was to trap something... but it also seems a blatant foreshadow too.
Besides, the battles are at this scale now, only other giant monsters can match up to this kind of power and destruction. (And give Naruto and Sasuke something to unify over for only by those two overpowered idiots working together can the greatest threat, the monster sealed 1000 years ago by the ancients, possibly be defeated! etc..) The sidecast is officially uber outclassed and will never do anything interesting or important again, which is a shame, but... it is how it is. (Which makes it all the more annoying they didn't get last hurrahs versus the many Pain bodies.)
EDIT: Over in the Fairy Tail forum, for the sake of being contrary, because someone used the term "inarguably awesome", I said the Rock Lee/Gaara fight sucked ass. I in fact, think that is one of the best fights in the series and it is the only volume of the manga I actually own. Just recording this fact for the time stamp in advance before I get hassled over in the FT forum. That the Lee/Gaara fight is one of my favorites should be some insight into my take on this current mass destruction crazy arc.

Dunno why people are putting so much stock into the moon thing; If you recall correctly, Piccolo blew up the moon in DBZ and no one seemed to give a shit/ask questions about it after it happened; in fact, it wasn't even mentioned until Vegeta used that orb to simulate moonlight (or was that just Anime filler?)

From what I've got he already reached the nine tails mode,
the pic brennen.exe posted shows Yamato's (that's his name) hand which changes the number AFTER (not before) a certain number is reached.
The only thing naruto was stopped from is the removal of the seal, so the ninetails is still bound to it's host.
One thing that's bugging me:
Wasn't it stated somewhere that releasing only four tails hurts the hell out of naruto's body?

Nonetheless this looks like a small plothole to me,
remembering how forcefully they were stressing the point of the physical damaged, caused by four tails.
Now he jumped all the way to nine.
But hey, we gotta take all we can get...

Actually at the next World's Strongest tournament a man-wolf (inverted werewolf) came forward that was really ticked off at Roshi for blowing up the moon because he couldn't transform anymore.
And then a year later after Kami permanently cut off Goku's tail, he recreated the moon…
Only for Piccollo jr. to blow it up again a few years later to stop Gohan.
And its a big deal in Naruto because CREATING A FRIKKIN MOON is impressive on all levels... and because it seems blatantly tied into sealing a big monsters.

One problem I have with this theory is that, it was never said why the Sage of Six Paths created that moon. To seal a monster, while a logical conclusion, may or may not be the reason. With this kind of power he could have just slammed it into something. Or killed someone else with it.
That comment Pain gave really seemed more like an interesting detail about the Sage of Six Path from the past. I think it had more to do with him then the moon.

Wow. i have NEVER laughed this hard at anything manga related ever. This chapter topped Duvals reveal for me in most lol's.
Pein's overapeage of the now grand ninja canyon that used to be konoha, Yamato sprinting towards the village after seeing that naruto has released 8 tails, then seeing that he released 9 and just saying "fuck it" and stopping, Naruto's pathetic breakdown*, the 4th tackling naruto away from the seal, and peins recation to the 8 tials busting through his attack.
ALL pure GOLD. This series has gotten so bad that it's actually funny to read on a regular basis and therefore i'm starting to like it again. So i guess things have come full circle.
*Also i note that luffy had a similiar, albeit better depicted, breakdown back on teh archipedilo. But when you consider taht was after fighting 3 back to back enemies, all of which he knew nothing about and was unprepared for, and the fact that he was clearly outclassed to begin with (an admiral, special captain, shichibukai and a pacifista) and he wasn't intended to be some savoir (he was just minding his own business, punching assholes in the face) the breakdown was much more called for.

Oh yes, Pain's experssion was best. WTF moments are always superior in Naruto. And that son-dad moment, next chapter will be gold if that really continues. But that moon thing, like I say before… it really was superior. These kind of things manga feels good bro's.

Timelines for the events seem weird but I guess the real chapter will hopefully clear it up.

! Well, Nagato and Konan have to be in about their early - mid 30's right now. They were all his students before Yondaime and the two unnamed Genin. I'd guess it'd be about 25 years or so since Jiraiya left them in the Rain Country, so that gives a 10 year window between the Kyuubi attack and Akatsuki forming. That's a pretty big gap. It's not really that inconceivable, honestly.

! I didn't say that it had anything to do with him changing his mask. That can happen over time or dependant on Madara's mood for the moment. But the fact that Minato saw "a man in a mask" and Naruto saw "a man in a mask", regardless of what the mask looked like, means that they both know who Tobi/Madara is now. (I guess somehow the mask variations throw people off who aren't smart enough)

Anbu suck... but it is a fair point that there have been lots of other mask wearers in Naruto (including Haku)... we just haven't really seen any since part one, and Tobi side by side with Tobi, especially with the 1 eyehole, is pretty blatant.

Didn't some of them hold back and defeat one of the summoned creatures that Pain summoned? They saved Ibiki and some others i recall.

ANBU's only purpose is to give legitimacy to the skills and abilities to the named ninja who were in there: Kakashi, Yamato, Itachi. If you're ANBU and nameless, you're nothing. (though I still found it cool when the leader killed those two of Orochimaru's thugs back during the Invasion)

Which is weird since not many of them save for Naruto,Sakura,Shikamaru,Sasuke,& Shino were able to do anything due to the sleep genjustsu incapacitating everyone else and even then those 5 didn't do much.

Chapter…somewhat predictable but short and sweet. It would figure that Minato thought he wanted to prepare Naruto for Madara...but somehow it sounds right now like the only way to save the world is to literally "destroy the ninja way of life".
