That, plus the whole "boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, boy has to defeat a number of quirky super-powered killers to get the girl" plot. I'm looking forward to this movie, personally.
Scott Pilgrim

-
Hate him…..as an actor.
In real life im sure hes cool and a nice dude but seriously i cant stand seeing him cast in any movie that i like as a main role. Thankfully all his roles were i guess appropriate for him and he fits em, but hes the same thing in each movie.
Never saw "Youth in Revolt" and will never see "Year one" but all the others including SB, N&N, and Juno were fine and he really didnt add anything to any of the movies, just Michael Cera ^^^ being awkward and a pussy.
-
@Thousand:
This movie looks like sex.
Have you even seen "sex" before?
-
I can't wait for this film :D Does it remind anyone else of the game no more heroes as in the sound effects and the outlandishness of it?
NO.
series was out way before no more heroes.
so…other way around.also: the quirkiness and action are similar in a way, but the characters
and style of the books...way, way different. no more heroes is crazy, weird and
mindless fun, scott pilgrim still has some pretty heavily 'grounded in reality' elements
to it. half the series is total slice of life stuff.. -

Having actually SEEN Youth in Revolt, that description of his "moustache" personality is completely wrong. The whole point of the character was to break "Same character he's been playing since Arrested Development" acting. It's the first time I'd believe Cera COULD pay a different type of character, and when I realized he'd be able to handle Scott Pilgrim.
the trailer just didn't show us much of Scott that would show off his more endearing qualities.
-
@Ao:
NO.
series was out way before no more heroes.Yeah, but this movie wasn't.
-
Just saw the trailer. This movie looks amazing. This and Kickass are the movies I am most exited for.
-
I'm a real sucker for these anime/comic fight effects in movies this will be a must-see.

Lmao! You actually went to see that in theaters of your own accord? What exactly was it about the Youth in Revolt trailer that made you want to pay 10 dollars to see that?
-
This movie is going to be epic _____.
Now what the _____ I can't decide just yet.
-
Yeah, but this movie wasn't.
this makes zero sense.
the movie is trying to faithfully adapt the look and concepts
from the comic, not bite the style from no more heroes.
i doubt no more heroes was an influence at all, which is what
i was saying…considering travis is an american otaku, maybe it was the other way
around? -

Youth in revolt was actually a really good movie. I liked it more than superbad or knocked up(which I love alot) Maybe before you judge a movie you should see it. who knows you could like it

Or perhaps you could develop a better taste in movies? I didnt make the picture of Cera. Its what alot of people think about him. He still has not played a role other than "awkward guy after a girl." I actually enjoyed Knocked Up but he wasnt in that so it doesnt really matter.
-
Holy crap, the guy who threw Cera into the building in Chris Evans! I didn't recognize him with the ridiculous facial expression. I think he'll be the best thing of the movie, which he was for Fantastic Four (which isn't saying much). The guy has a lot to live up to, especially now that he's going to be Captain America.
And Brandon Routh, the guy who played Superman Returns, in this is hilarious! He's the guy with the lightsaber.
Brandon: "Listen Soap Operas! I'm quiting you to be in serious and dramatic movie roles so I can become popular and beloved! I'm far too talented for you!"
Soap Operas: "I'm very sad."Superman Returns
Public: "YOUR MOVIE SUCKS!"
Brandon: "What? Are you kidding me?"Nick and Nora Make a Porno
Public: "Much better."
Brandon: "What!? That movie was horrible! Justin Long was trying to grab my crotch the entire movie!"
Justin: "You know you like it! Oh, and buy a Mac."And here he is, being a not so serious character in a not so serious movie. God I love the irony and karma.

brandon ruth is the guy with super saiyan powers and laser eyes.
jason schwartzman is the guy with the lightsaber.. -

My point still stands.

I bet it's rated PG.

I bet it's rated PG.
Well from what I read…
story spoilers
! When some of the characters die, they have unique deaths. Some of them turn into a massive pile of coins, another turns into a pile of birds, rabbits, and other furry animals.
The only reason this would be R is if they used vulgar language or nudity. Otherwise, this story doesn't NEED to be R.
-
@Ao Kiji: Are you saying this Scott Pilgrim inspired No More Heroes in some way? Highly unlikely.
-

no, i'm saying this movie DEFINITELY isn't inspired by No More Heroes as someone suggested.

They use vulgar language all the time in the comic and Scott sexes it up a couple times as well. The story is quite young adult. I'm just sayin' they're probably gonna water it down and make it sickly sweet for the chillins.
-
I predict 14A rating.
-
Ok so I just watched the trailer… and I'm not familiar with the source material but I will say this.
This trailer pumped me the fuck up. (Especially the Street Fighter Alpha "KO!")
Now can someone explain to me how come this comedy-action hybrid looks BETTER than let's say the DBZ movie?
Logic should say the DBZ movie would be treated more seriously and given the treatment of this movie (I know it's comedy but the fights look like they belong on an anime/comic adaptation...unlike the pile of gutter trash that was DB:E).
So essentially what I'm getting from this is:
If it's a comedy we'll do it right.
If it's semi-serious we'll fuck it up till its unrecognizable.

dragonball was pure comedy until the second season, and even then it was only semi-serious during battles. even some of the battles ended in goofy gags. it didn't get super serious until the 'z' stuff. this is a north american property, so they can work with the creator.
it's done well with americans–best-selling comic last comic con--so there's no 'we have to make this work for americans' thing like there was with DB:E either. -

it's definitely not going to be a totally direct adaptation.
sometimes it turns out good–i didn't hate the fist of the north star movie...
also, it helps that the director is a 'hot' director right now and is making the movie
because he's a big fan of the series. it's like peter jackson and lord of the rings, i doubt
the director of dragonball:evolution is a massive db fan. -

Jesus… good thing they picked a fan.
Wait...
-
Heh nice to see one of the independents making it that far. Kudos on him, looking forward to the movie too. I love Michel Cera!
-
That trailer was pure over-the-top epic badassery. Really gives me No More Heroes vibes.
So, does this Scott guy trains really hard or gains a superpower to defeat the 7 evil exes or what?
-
tHE ACTIOn is the main selling point for me in this movie, I don't think I'll give a damn about it's rating so long as the action is good.
Though TBH, R rating would be going too far I feel. -
I think there is a sex scene in the comic, so it won't be pg 13.
-

….It's with Chris Evans' character and not Michael Cera's right? RIGHT?
Oh God...it's like watching a marshmellow hump! Michael Cera sex scene....PLEASE NO! DO NOT WANT! Why is he naked yet every other attractive male isn't naked enough?
-
it'll be pg-13 i'm gonna guess
they probably wanna market the damn thing anyway

in the universe of the comic, people have super strength and what not is just a normal mundane thing. scott pilgrim just naturally has super strength and martial arts abilities ala street fighter from before the beginning of the series. some of his exes are ninjas and cyborgs and stuff like that. having special powers is like being a vegetarian or being athletic in scott-pilgrim-world–it's just something some people do and some people don't.
the books are rated 14 and up, i think. so, there's no real reason for it NOT to be pg-13. there's tons of violence, but almost no blood. there's panty shots, lesbian make-out scenes, and one really, really pg at best sex scene. there's swearing but it's not gratuitous and no 'f-bombs' whatsoever.
i don't even get why people want this to be rated-R. also, comical violence usually gets a huge pass--the simpsons can show decapitations willy-nilly, but they can't even show punches connecting on dragonball. i think the more over-the-top it is, the more violence they can get away with as long as they're aren't spraying blood all over the place. -

Are you familiar with The Boondocks? Where people randomly seem to have wicked awesome kung fu, even Uncle Ruckus.
It's kinda like that, but taken to a whole new level.
-
Looks Ok, I'm In.

huey knows martial arts because he's into kung-fu, samurai movies and asian culture in general from what i've seen. most people are normal until season two where all semblance of reality is lost and nothing makes sense.

there's a new trailer for the upcoming film "scott pilgrim vs the world"
that will only be released if 100k people like the facebook page. we're pretty
close to that goal on the page (about 10k left), so help out by going to the page and liking it if you can – and letting your friends know. if you're in the dark about the movie, this is the previous (awesome) trailer:<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="
"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><embed src=" " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></object> -
ahahahahahaha
Last night at a screening of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time they showed the trailer posted here and it was meet by an unanimous "BOOOOOOOOO" from the crowd.
yea n I clicked liked.
-
^why would they have screenings for a movie that's already out?
do you live in the UK?they were probably cera-haters.
-
my bad not screening, the actual movie.
Cera haters or not, I don't think the trailer appeals to the general public. That being said I won't be seeing the film cause I am a Cera hater. He needs to move to playing more roles other than the "awkward boy" thing he does.

..because he's totally playing that in the trailer?
i definitely think it's PURELY people who hate cera booing. i've seen nothing, but overwhelming positive response to the trailer aside from people who generally loathe anything to do with video games, kung-fu, anime, etc.
as soon as the trailer was released, i noticed the comic it's based on dominating half of the new york times best-seller list, too.. -
I will join the cause very stoked for this movie
-
^aye! good man!!
-
I already "Like" this way back.
I'm very excited about this movie. Especially since it comes from Edgar Wright. Too bad the comic books aren't released here in my country.
-
only 4000 more to go
-
lol
why would i support a michael cera movie -
lol
why would i support a michael cera moviewhy would you waste my time? lol
