General Sonic the Hedgehog Thread (Now With Movie 3 & Knuckles)

Gameware card you will be used once again to put off to buy a game and delay my 360 purchase… I still have some excitment in Animal Crossing left before it too bores me...
-
actually the PS3 version is not coming out till December…..i wonder why
-
Newbie question.
AC : CF sucked terribly. Like. REALLY terribly, and I want a new game to play. Is this game going to be good do you guys think? I don't really feel like searching the thread.
-
Well IGN just rated the Wii version 7.2 which is a first for a Sonic game… it's gotta be good if IGN gave it a score beyond a 6.9. This also means that the superior 360/PS3 version is bound to get a better score.
Not to mention even Sonic team can do a good game if they tried.
-
still 7.2Wii and 7.0PS2 im sure the 360/PS3 will get better reviews but it will probably not reach the 90's or above im sure the graphics will be the only 9.0 there or even 9.5 if the person is nice enough still i guess its okay.
I am dying to play it

Just remember when reading a Sonic review from IGN : They shall be incredibly biased against everything.
-
I'll have to get it to deliver my final thoughts on the game. I said before I welcome the Werehog, but a little worried about the speed runs, what with the fact Sonic only really just runs… The enemies don't do jack squat but get blown away...
If anything this game could make the perfect blend to see a proper Mario and Sonic crossover. Sonic with speed, (the way I wanna see it.) Mario platforming, (with a little speed, Mario isn't as fat or slow as we make him out to be.) and Chao gardens.
Now if only they'd get rid of the current voice actors excluding Eggman, I don't care what you think, I don't like hearing Jason Griffith and Lisa Oritz voice act at ALL and would like those two to quit.
-
Wow those idiots at IGN are eating up that review like garbage…
-
Just remember when reading a Sonic review from IGN : They shall be incredibly biased against everything.
Is that bias FOR or AGAINST the game?
Either way, I take all game reviews with a grain of salt.
-
Against… IGN doesn't like Sonic very much... If you don't improve on a game series the way they want it, you get a bad review...
Bah... I want this game...

You know what makes me want it more?
ayEdkFWEu6E
Seriously that is awesome, it's a shame part of it is missing in the Wii version (if you remember the 360 trailer showed a whale.)
-
so how long is this game? 20+ hours?
-
4kids actors as horrible as ever…
EDIT: Getting the 360 version as soon as I get a 360... I want hub worlds for pete's sake.
-
EA3HOLYY_LI
I'll just leave this here..
-
Game is descent, but by no means perfect. On the ps2 graphics look close to that of the ps1 and it's filled with bugs.
And not that much side scrolling levels. Here was me hoping it would be as good as the old (genesis) sonic's.

Well you could always get the 360/PS3 version. Those seem to be the superior versions.
-
Obviously..
I don't own a ps3 and 360, though. And i'm not planning to buy any (yet).
I still have a large list of ps2 games i want to finish. And some gamecube games. -
phew you had me worried the "real" versions sucked
-
Constantly getting tired of the Wii nerfing its games all the time.
So, how does it rank up to Sonic Adventure 1?
-
Did anyone see that 1up review? That reviewer sounded like he/she was pulling shit our of his/her ass.
-

The wii version doesn't compare to adventure at all especially since it's been gagged with to much Werehog.
The 360 however is more balanced and make each section whether day or night very good compared to Adventure.
-
1up gave the PS360 version just a C, though Sonic Secret Rings got a B+.
I think I'll skip this game and get Sonic Black Knight next spring instead :/ ( Werhog turns me off too much, I already liked Secret Rings and Sega at least tries to remove it's flaws in BK, due to Nintendo Power interview ) -

-
Night of the Werehog
Most likely better than the game itself.
-
how did you find that?
that was pretty damn cool, thanks for sharin
-
The 360/ps3 version has many more day time levels which out number the werehog levels by far.. the PS2/Wii version has a 3-1 werehog-hedgehog ratio… despite that ... I'm over here having a blast with the PS2 version. I didn't like the werehog much at first but once you level him up a bit, it becomes really addictive. I find myself looking for the best combos to beat enemies, trying new moves and finding new paths all the time. Yes it's watered down, but it's all I have right now and what I have I really like. Maybe my standards are really low, I dunno. It just gives me something to work toward (PS3/360)... I wonder how cheap I can get a 360...
This is how 3D Sonic game should have been from the beginning. (the day time stages anyway)
you can BACKTRACK! you can MOTHER FUCKING BACKTRACK in the levels. You turn around and the camera positions itself behind Sonic. It's like a dream. I'm serious. Also Jason Griffith has gotten a lot better as Sonic and I like his werehog voice.
The reviews for this game are full of shit. The game is solid, the engine is solid, it's a good fucking game. Don't let the bias reviews fool you.
-
Oh shit, this game's on the PS2?!
Gonna go lurk through shops to find it. -

Hey, Que, where and how much did you it for/from? Since I don't have any nex-gen, I'll at least put this on my list of stuffs to get, until I get a PS3 of course, then, I'll definately get this game again.
BTW, I figured all the reviews were full of S-word. Especially IGN and GS, they both suck, they don't like anything that isn't Grand Theft Auto, Mario, and MGS.

Woo big fat post ahead
I'm having some fun with the Wii version, I'm still in the first world so I can't say too much yet. But have only had one weird jumping through a cliff death in one of the tutorial levels, I think 'cause I was jumping around ledges trying to backtrack. But I did notice that when I got to a 2D section I wasn't sure whether to keep holding up or press right instead, but pressing either way didn't make me run off the level or out of loops! That was nice.
I don't know if this was in previous games but the swerving and quickstepping really makes it easier to navigate. I played a demo of a previous game and I kept sliding into walls, heh. Also I like the werehog's stretchy arms, it's versatile and it's helping avoid a LOT of hassle with grabbing things.
Couple things that kinda annoy me though. After going through the tutorial levels I'm still getting large "B" signs when I have to grab something, even though the grabbable things are already highlighted blue, and when I'm climbing or swinging, a box with demo Wii movements pops up. I learnt all that in the tutorials! I hope that stops in later levels.
Also you shouldn't come to a dead stop whenever Chip talks to you, which is a lot. It was funny in the tutorials when there's a big count down and as soon as you take off Chip stops you, but sometimes you should be left to figure stuff out yourself. There was a part where there was a bright red lever next to a door and while I'm walking to it Chip stops me and says "Hey! Look at that lever! I bet if you try and move it the door will open!" And another time, where there are two doors next to each other, the first time you pass them one is glowing and Chip says "Hey that door is glowing! I bet you can open it!" And then the /next/ time you pass by the second one is glowing and Chip stops you to say the same thing! I think it would've been better if there was a help icon in the corner which you can select if you actually want his advice. And the voices aren't bad. I'd been hearing that Rob- er, Eggman sounds like Plankton and Chip is a stoned teenager. But actually he sounds just like Chaz from Yugioh GX. Which could be taken as bad I suppose. Anyway this does seem like a solid game at the moment.
-
I'm loving this game a lot right now, the running stages are well done and the werehog stages aren't too bad either despite being the majority in the PS2 ver. :/
-
They got it right, they finally got it right. What a turnaround from Sonic '06, that fucking piece of shit.
-
ign gave it a 4.5/10
what the fuck? I havent even played it but i know it cant be that damn bad
-
I have played it (Wii) and no, it's not that bad. I think IGN is harsh on all games.
-
I think I'm 65 % through on the Wii and it's not THAAAAAT bad. But the controls suck at some points, and that damn werehog is way to slippery in running-mode.
And the story …. oh man.
I just want a NORMAL Sonic RUNNING-Game and I can believe that people at IGN think the same way.
That's why it is 4.5/10. -
Sigh…
Another piece of shit. Why has Sonic fallen so much?
-

slap
No one should rate a game so low because a certain character is repetitive.
-
Heh, and yet why do I keep going back and back to the same notion…
This article just summed up my point: They try so hard to make it so Sonic is just running from point A to Point B. But isn't that the point of Sonic games?
Yeah, same for all platformers. But the thing is it isn't just point A and point B, its point A and enemies, hazards, and other obstacles before you reach point B. If you only make Sonic be as fast as you can make him, then yeah you don't need all those. I look at the game (the Daylight) and I don't even see enemies, I see stepping stones or featherweight boxes. What's wrong with having to make a jump over a pit and if you miss you die? Stopping or making a detour to get that power up or 1-up?
But no... We all have to have Sonic run, and not just fast... So fast that getting to the end is a mere cakewalk, that the only things that affect your score and rank is if you crashed into a wall or didn't somersault under that specific gate.
And that saving grace, the only thing that doesn't make it a 1 hour game if you watch the cutscenes, gets ridiculed upon by a mass of wild dogs who have this focused idea of what a Sonic game is supposed to be like.
Sonic was slower.
Sonic was slower than his latest literations, this allowed the player to search and explore the level to their hearts content. He was fast compared to other platform heroes, but as of now he was still slower back then. Yeah, you could run the level in a matter of minutes, if not for the simple platform puzzles, the enemies that if you don't defeat you end up losing sweet time, and oh yeah spikes and pits. Are these elements in Sonic's levels in Unleashed? From looking at it, nope.
To me, Sonic and Shadow's stages in SA2 and Seaside Hill in Sonic Heroes are what all Sonic levels should stack up to, but also branch out a bit more to provide variety in routes.
-
man, of course the ps3 version isnt out for still another week. cant wait. the game has been getting average reviews, which is good for a sonic game. it was being rated on the same scale on such games as little big planet, resistance 2, ect. so of course its not gonna get a really high score. plus anything is better then sonic '06, and im sure this game is on par with sa1+2
-
So how lacking is the Wii version compared to the 360/PS3 versions? I'm probably getting the game for Christmas and found out about the click and point hub stages for the Wii, which kind of disapointed me.
-

Well, I guess I'm a little biased, but I think the Wii version is actually pretty good. Actually, I've heard the general consensus is that the Wii version is better than the X360 version. But yeah, those point-and-click hub towns do get a little irritating.
Anyway, I'm taking a little break from Sonic Unleashed now, since I've beaten it and gotten all but one medal. The only left for me to do is get the remaining items and the last medal, but I really don't feel like tedioiusly exploring each level for the items, so I much just wait till a guide comes out on Gamefaqs.

Just played the game. Its a LOT closer to what they've needed to do since going 3-D. The auto falls of death are pretty much removed, the needless variety provided by all the subcharacters is gone (No fishing games,) and Sonic actually controlls well. Its a lot closer, but not as good as 2-D lets it be.
Sonic should be the speed that only 2-D allows, and they've managed to capture that here. There SHOULD be areas where you can go 300 mph and do corkscrews and not deal with hardly any enemies at all and just enjoy the thrill of going fast, especially in the first level or two of the game, and Unleashed excels at that. But there should also be obstacles and platforming and loads of enemies later. Werehog provides that variety… but they shouldn't need the bi-polar dichotomy, Sonic should be able to do both kinds of game, within a single level.
Its still not as 2.5-D as they claimed, because the running parts are lacking any real challenge, but they are pretty fun.
You can play the first stage of Sonic 2 in about 20 seconds and thats a thrill, but you can also spend 6 or 7 minutes going around slowly and doing everything carefully, and this game still lacks that balance. Its the same mistake the portable games Rush and Rivals have. Great games that recapture the old feel and let you go really fast... excpt they REALLY force you to go full throttle at all times, and Unleashed is the same. One kind of level forces you to play full speed, and the other forces you to go slow. SHouldn't be a day and night thing, each level should just have some of both, depending on what paths you take.
But, they get a pass on this one from me. Despite how the video demos looked, they really DID fix a lot of the glaring problems, (like where even playing perfectly can get you killed due to a sharp turn in the game's design) and it controls a lot closer to the experiance of Okami now. But its still not quite there, since they were so divisive about the kinds of levels. Closest they've been in a looooong time tho to making a proper Sonic game. If they follow this path, they might just finally nail the 2-D/3-D gap next game. And that makes me VERY happy.
Or of course, they could just re-release Sonic CD, since that never appears on the compilations for some reason. Or make a cheap 2-D game with modern graphics akin to Odin's Sphere and that would be good too, I cant help but think folks would eat that up...

Um, they re-released Sonic CD in the Sonic Gems Collection. Very solid game.

Gonna try and beat the final area today. Someone upped the OST to the net if anyone wants it.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5lnokbuw ```Note that this is for the PS2 ver., the PS3, Revo/Wii and 360 ver. have more stages and as such themes (Mazuri for example, DOES HAVE stages in these other versions).
-
So is the PS2 the same as the Revolution version? Since I won't be getting a PS3 soon, I thought I'd get it on PS2 to try it, I just wanna play a freakin Sonic game. What are the exact faults of the PS2 version compared to the others? Do you think I should get this one or wait for PS3?
-
Sad but true. Very much so.
